Description of Work: They installed new front door. Initial salesman was polite, informative, and responsive to phone calls. Also, the presentation was not as lengthy as other service-salesmen. Installation was delayed because I ordered a combination of door knocker and handle that was not offered, but then they did not charge me for the replacement door knocker. The installer was punctual, and he was impressed with the ease of installation. He said it was because of the high quality of the door. (Aspen uses local installers.) I think the door was expensive, but it was probably a competitive price. Whenever I drive by my house, our new red door makes me smile. Several neighbors complimented us. Yes, it improved our house by $3400- no doubt.

Description of Work: I spent about $20,000 for work done to the exterior of my home. It took many, many return trips to try to get things correctly installed and completed. Some things I had to live with...I should not have to live with anything when I spend a firm as much as I did for the work performed.

Description of Work: I contacted Aspen to request an estimate to replace my roof. The company insisted on meeting me at my home to estimate the job (other companies giving estimates did not). When I said the day/time slot they "assigned" to me was not convenient, I was told it had to be at their convenience. The meeting to do the estimate was really a "hard sell" session--I don't think he even glanced at the house. The final estimate was over $2,000 more than the estimates from other companies. A few weeks later I mentioned this event to my financial advisor, who told me that Aspen is well-known as a marketing company, not a construction company. They sell contracts, then hire other companies to do the actual work. While there is nothing wrong with this practice, I feel it should be revealed to a potential customer.

Description of Work: I ordered a new entry in the front and back of the house and a new storm door for the front door. I love these people. Every single one of them that I have had any contact with, whether its sales people or installation or the office staff, have been the warmest people I have ever met. They are extremely kind and helpful. I had windows installed in the house earlier by them and I am so happy with them. The price is high but the product is so superior in quality you can't help but think you did the best thing you could do.

Description of Work: I bought the $250.00 deal for the $1000.00 credit. I ended up not having anything done after they came out and gave me the pricing for 2 entry doors. They have a great product but too expensive to invest that kind of money for a property that I plan on selling in the near future.

 + 2 moreTHEY UNDERBID AND THEN KEPT RAISING THE PRICE. We chose this company after my wife viewed some of their work nearby and spoke with their window installer. The owner and installers all appeared very professional. Me and my wife met with the sales staff numerous times. Each time they arrived late and took the entire evening. We discussed every detail of the job in depth. I got a little concerned at the staff's cavalier 'Yes, no problem" responses. A typical contractor will explain the impact of each decision and any additional cost. These additional costs showed up in early price negationations when the price was increased to include several items that we were previously told were included. Also detailed discussioned uncovered the fact that when they made a price consession they were changing the materials to be used to cheaper materials without telling us. When it came time to seal the deal they said they forgot to include the cost of some things and added another $2500 to the price. I was very concerned, Prior to this we had talked extensively about every detail and I could not understand how they could have bid the job telling me things were included and now were telling me they were not. I asked them, "What happens if you discover you forgot something else after we sign the contract? Is the price going to raise? Their response was after we sign the contract we will have to eat anything we forgot, This left me concerned. But my wife was sold on them and wanted to continue. I agreed to the increase that brought the total to 27250. I insisted on having a corporate officer discuss the job in detail putting everything in writing and agreeing to pay any additonal cost to me if they failed to perform as agreed. I signed the contract and paid the deposits. After the cancelation period expired I received a call from the sales staff. They had made a mistake and could not do the job for the price. The new price was an additional $7850.00 and eliminated some of the previously agreed upon work. The sales staff brought out 7 new pages of contract that was back dated and had a clause in it that would invalidate our previously agreed upon addendum that detailed all the work that would be performed. They refused to accept any responsibility or absorb any of the additional cost due to their error. They could not provide any detail on how they estimated the job before and after to demonstarte how the error happened. This was the third price increase they requested of us. The 75days to complete the work that they agreed to has past and no work has started. The damage clause required them to pay the damages within 60 days of breach. That has passed as well. It is now 2011 and I have no choice but to have the work done by another contractor and then sue them to collect the additional cost. Because Aspen Home delayed the process and their original bid unbid their competitors we lost the ability to have the work completed by another contractor before years end. So we also lost out on the $3000 tax credit we would have received. I strongly recommend you avoid any dealings with this firm. And if you chose to do business with them you should include a contract addendum written up by you adding all the verbal commitments they make to you. Their contract language is vague and allows them to modify the quality of the job to fit the budget. feb 26.2012 - I just reviewed the contractors response. There is no truth in it. The contract was detailed and signed. No changes were made to the contract. The contractor increased the price withour any changes. His response here is again another example of untruthful communication. Integrity is the number one quality you need in a contractor.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of all outside surfaces. Roofing, Skylights, Facia boards and coverings, Siding, Spouting, Soffits, Windows, and doors. Some exceptions were noted in the detailed addendum to the contract.
