A-1 ROOFING OF LANCASTER

We had hired A1 tin the fall 2013 to fix flashing on our roof, put gutters on, cap the window frames and fix a heater exhaust vent. We have a finished 3rd floor. The leak in the roof was not repaired properly. We now have to have major drywall repair. The gutters do not work. The capping on the windows was a mix of mismatched pieces of trimming and looks poorly done. The paint on the gutters if flaking off. The vent leaks water into our basement and has rusted. It has been 6 months since the work was complete

You get what you pay for and they seem to do good work, so it is tough to complain there. They came out and did the work and did not seem to have any issues. They also reminded me to check the tops of my storm windows so that water would not get into the sills and checked my weeping wells while they were at it. That is not something I asked them to do, so it is nice that they thought to do that while doing the other work. I have worked with a few roofing companies as this point and as long as you can deal with a busy schedule these guys are great. It is always good to keep on top of contractors with scheduling and what not, but aside from reminding them about a bid I needed one I have not had any real issues - I'll definitely be using them again. Speaking of which, I was not aware they worked on gutters for some reason so I have them bidding on a couple of those projects now as well. Update: I called three times and got an answering service for A1 each time and never got a call back. After that I called the owners cell phone once and he said he would come out to take a look at the issue and never did. I am not sure what happened with their business plan but I am very disappointed and I had to higher another company to come fix what these guys did wrong. I even had a leak develop in my building because the flashing and some of the shingle work they did came off and left the decking exposed (and this was the third floor where it is hard to see, so I was unaware until some of the bad storms we had this year made it very clear). Honestly, it would be nice to have my money back for that project to cover the cost of the other company I had to have come out and re-do the work.

We hired this company to cover a roof garden with rubber roofing (an elevated patio over one wing of the house) in 2004. A year later, the leaks returned. We called, and they promised to stop "next week" to look at it. They did not come to check it or call. I temporarily repaired the leaks. Subsequently, I called several times and left messages. My calls were not returned. After several years of applying temporary repairs, I finally caught someone in the office and got a definite date to come and fix the leaks, which they did, the next week. After a short time, the leaks returned again. This time I could never get anyone in the office, and again my messages went unreturned. After sending them a note about how disappointed I was in their service---they did not respond to that either--I secured another company to repair the leaks. When they did, the pointed out to me where the original installer had made some mistakes.

What a horrible experience. I'm writing this in 2012 and we're still dealing with the consequences of hiring A-1.Yes, they were cheap. Yes, they were quick. But within days of their finishing, we had a leak in the bathroom ceiling where they didn't put flashing around the outside vent. Getting them to answer calls about it, let alone return to fix it, was a nightmare. They left cigarette butts, broken shingles and roofing nails all around our house. At the time, I had a 4 year old running around so I wasn't happy. Now it's 6 years later and part of the vent on the peak blew off. I called A-1 with no real hope of getting it fixed. It took a week for him to call me back AND give me an estimate that was several hundred dollars more than what it actually cost to fix it by someone else. A different contractor replaced the vent piece and told me how THERE IS NO VENT from our attic to the outside because of the way A-1 put on the roof. There should be a vent. No wonder our attic fan runs non-stop. So if we want our 2nd floor cooler in the summer, we'll have to pay to have it cut open and vented properly. DO NOT HIRE A-1.

Not much to say. They arrived on time, got to work and stayed at work. Finished the job in a timely fashion. Very pleased.

A-1 did an excellent job installing my new roof and insulation. They did fantastic work, and they were punctual and professional. The price was fair considering the quality of the work and I'll definitely use them again.

The estimate was much lower than three others we got. The estimate was all inclusive. Some spongy plywood was even replaced - and was not an added cost, which surprised me. What shingles were taken off were replaced that day, which was really needed due to a major rain storm that came through during the replacement. Clean up was pretty good, although some debris was scattered. Overall, very pleased and saved a bunch, and did not compromise on quality.
