 + -1 moreDespite the difficult job, everything was perfect. When they finished, the yard was completely clean.
Description of Work: First visit was right after Sandy hit the area and I had two huge limbs down from a 60 year old Oak tree 3 feet from my house. The limbs came down during the storm on Monday night. They caught on a communications cable and took down my neighbors fence. I called Monday night and spoke with a real person who promised that someone would be out Tuesday to cut down the limbs (remember, this was in the middle of the storm!). Sure enough, two men from Davey were in my yard by 2:00 pm on Tuesday and they cut the huge limbs, cleaned up the entire yard and left everything in perfect condition. Second visit was to cut down the 60 year old tree, that was about 100 feet tall, in my small yard, with a fence, and that overhung three neighbors' homes. They needed to bring in a crane, set it up on my neighbor's drvieway and remove each limb and the trunk by bringing them over my house using the crane. They were incredible. They came on time, they worked within the confines of the small fenced yard, the neighbor's homes, the close proximity of the tree to my house and they left the yard, clean, neat and in perfect condition. They even swept the roof of my sunroom! I can't say enough about how wonderful they were. This was a very difficult job and I actually worried that I would not be able to find anyone to do it. But they came out, gave me an estimate and did a very fine professional job.

 + 0 moreDavey Tree Company's work was exceptional. It was by far the most professional contractor experience I've had as a homeowner. They were very accommodating and never late for the scheduled times for both the estimate and the days when the service was undertaken. Because access to my backyard is limited, it was necessary to use my neighbor's driveway and the property between our two houses to bring their trucks to my backyard. They removed my neighbor's footpath, laid down industrial mats and took great care when traversing between the two houses. When they finished the job, they fixed the minor damage to the lawn and replaced my neighbor's path to an even better condition than when they started. They were meticulous in the way in which the services were performed and the ancillary preparation and care of mine and my neighbor's properties. Last but not least, their price was extremely competitive to the other 3 estimates I received. They have earned my loyalty for the indefinite future.
Description of Work: We had several huge tree limbs from 3 different trees fall in our backyard during a storm. The limbs took out some of our fence line. We contacted Davey to have the limbs & debris removed from the ground, two very large ash trees cut down with their stumps ground, and several dead limbs on a humungous sycamore tree cut and removed.

 + -1 moreIt was a lot of work and they did it quickly and neatly, and for a good price. We did do a lot of negotiation to get to the final price, however. Their initial bid was about 30% higher.
Description of Work: They cut two large trees down, ground one of the stumps and re-seeded the grass in the surrounding area, trimmed and shaped many other trees in our yard and cleared brush.

 + -1 moreArborist came out to view the property and he walked and inspected every tree. He gave me a detailed estimate of what was needed. He identified 2 trees that were rotting and needed to be cut down. Overall, I got the sense that he was the best and most thorough of the companies I interviewed. I interviewed 4 companies. The crew came out and did the branches on one trip. They came back and took down the trees about a month or two later. Strangely, the stump grinding was not included and this was not called out on the agreement. It was an assumption on my part. So if you hire any tree company, be sure to spell this out. The crew was polite and professional. They left my back yard neat and tidy, like they had never been there. It was a nice job. They were not the cheapest, but as I have read on may Angies posts by people who have been burned, it was better to pay extra and get a good job done.
Description of Work: Dead branches trimmed off our trees, branches close to the house were cut back, cable installed on one tree to strengthen it, 2 trees cut down

 + -1 moreSomeone responded very quickly to my email requesting an estimate. The representative came to my house within a few days and left the estimate at my door. I called back to say I now needed more things done and the estimator said he would return to my house in a couple of days. However, he came the very next day. He also indicated if I would call the office the work could be done the next day. I called and the next day the men were there to perform the work. The trees by the front door look just the way my original landscaper said I should keep them trimmed. All bushes and trees were nicely trimmed. I was very pleased with the results. I am sure I will call them again next year. The area was cleaned so well you couldn't even tell work was done.
Description of Work: The work to be done was to remove deadwood and stubbed branches from a Juniper bush, shear two yews, shear to shape three burning bushes and shear to shape large arborvitae to clear it away from the house.

 + -1 moreI needed a 40'+ maple tree removed since it was dying. Tricky because it was very close to my house, my fence, and the road. Davey (then The Care of Trees) staff had to get a flag crew and block off one lane of the road to get access as well as make use of a bucket truck. It was an all day operation but they removed the tree without any collateral damage. Very skilled and professional operation, also fully licensed and insured (unlike some smaller contractors). Given the difficulty of this particular job I felt I had to get a professional company to do the work. Not cheap but you really are getting your money's worth. I've used Davey on one smaller job since and again had no problems, and will likely use them in the future for some more tree work.

 + -1 moreWe won't know if the tree will survive the winter, but I am most grateful for the care and service that I received from Davey.
Description of Work: I used Davey last year to trim a 100 foot, 60 year old tree, very close to my house. They did a great job, the supervisor came out first and gave me a quote of $1,000 (which was very reasonable given the amount of work and the size and location of the tree). Shortly after that, 4 men arrived and trimmed many large, dead branches. They were professional and careful not to cause any damage to the house, the yard or the fence. Last month, I called them because my beautiful 5 year old dwarf maple was split in two by the October snow storm. The arborist came out twice, once to look and a second time to try to repair my little tree. He was not hopeful because the damage is severe, but he wanted to try before we pulled it out and planted another tree. He did not charge me anything for either visit, but if the tree does not survive the winter, I will certainly ask Davey to plant a new tree.

He provided a written estimate and gave me an Angie's discount, which made it lower than the other estimate that I received. The work itself was flawless. It was well-coordinated, done exactly as I had requested, and he workers were profesional and respectful.

 + -1 moreEverything went as advertised. I had three bids for the work and there was a huge difference in price - almost 250% ! Davey was the least expensive but did everything that they said they were going to do. No problems at all. The most expensive service, Boswell, demonstrated a get knowledge of trees and their care and did a masterful upsell. In the end, however, I decided to save some money with Davey and do only the work I needed done immediately.
Description of Work: Removed one fairly large tree and a few very small ones.

It's going fine and they are responsible, but the work has not been completed. The interaction has gone fine so far. They are professional, responsive, keep their appointments and they handle their job well. You speak to them, you call them and they call back. They are a professional organization.

Description of Work: This is the second time I have used Davey. Both experiences were excellent. This time, they removed a very large, very dead branch from a tree in the front of my house, and some very large branches from other trees around the house. They got rid of dead wood from the trees as well. The yard did not even look like they had been there. Last time, they took down a couple of dead trees and trimmed and pruned some other trees on my property. Both times, they made suggestions to aid in the health of other trees and in improving the landscaping at my home.

 + 0 moreI called the Chester Heights company and Bill Kane came out to do a free estimate. He was impressively thorough, efficient, and knowledgeable. The price he quoted was also more reasonable than the estimates other companies had given. Bill impressed me so much that I booked the service that day. He immediately called two men to come to my house that very day. I was very impressed. The two men were exceptional workers. They were incredibly polite and professional, and the work they did was excellent. I was so pleased that I called the office to acknowledge them all. I will certainly be calling them again.
Description of Work: They cut up a large dead branch that had fallen from my tree and cut back and trimmed five trees in my yard. They also put in a cable to hold two limbs together and make an old tree more stable. Bill Kane also wrote up an estimate for fertilization and treatments that the trees and other plants will need in the spring.

 + -1 moreThe crew showed up first thing this morning and reviewed the work to be done. During the review, they established that to use the bucket to take down the large tree(which was near power lines)they needed to remove some branches from another tree to gain access. Before doing this, they came back and requested permission. I REALLY appreciated this, that they didn't just chop the other tree. They quickly went to work taking down both trees and cleaning up the miscellaneous branches and brush. They were very careful not to damage anything else in the yard. They also did an excellent job cleaning up after they were done and finished the job by lunchtime.
Description of Work: We needed two trees removed: a large tree leaning against our garage and a small tree on the side of our driveway interfering with the electric lines feeding the house. We had several branches down and a pile of brush that needed to be removed. When they came to give us the estimate they also recommended trimming some additional branches on another of our trees.

 + -1 moreThey ripped up our lawn, and they did not do the work in the time frame they said they would. I believe that the person who did the estimate was not as experienced as he should have been for a big job like ours. We would not use them again. I had specified that I wanted to be home when they did the work. I took two days off work as they had scheduled, but they did not complete the work in those two days. They came back a third day, and on that day they were not as careful as they had been when I was home, and that was when the lawn was ripped up. They also drove their trucks over the roots of a fancy ornamental tree, and put some mulch over it to cover it up. If the tree ends up dying, they will be hearing from me again.
