Five Star Home Foods

Five Star was exhibiting at the Philadelphia Home Show and I researched the company a bit before our appointment with the salesperson. We were able to choose our plan and understand our options. The salesperson did not pressure us in any way. The only issue which was unpleasant was the requirement to provide the names and contact info for ten of our family/friends. The delivery was made as scheduled and the driver explained the order in detail. It appears that the cost of the food is comparable to supermarket prices, if not a bit higher. However, the quality is better. However, we have just completed our second order, as six months have passed, and the experience was not positive at all. Our original salesperson was on vacation so another was sent. He arrived an hour ahead of our appointed time. His demeanor was very casual and not professional. He sped through the ordering process, as if we were quite familiar with the choices and ordering scheme. It was very rushed, and now I understand why. It seems the goal of the order is to purchase appliances through Five Star Foods in order to gain "significant discounts" on the food products - the more appliances or "rewards" you purchase, the greater the discount on the food. This is a high pressure tactic and our particular salesperson attempted to make us feel stupid if we did not exercise this option. As there is little time to decide, we chose to sign the contracts (these are separate for food and appliances), as we are aware that the state of PA allows for contact cancellation within three (3) days. We were anxious to rid ourselves of this obnoxious salesperson. In the meantime, we were able to examine both the contract (extremely high interest rate on the appliance purchase) and research the cost of the appliances (over 200% markup). Needless to say, we cancelled the contract for the purchase of the appliances. A 15% discount on the food is not worth it! Unfortunately, we will also be opting to end our food contract with Five Star once our original commitment ends. The food is of good quality but the business practices are not.

Five Star was recommended to me by a friend, also with a large family, who has used the service for several years - so I had a lot of good information before I met with the rep. Everything was clearly explained and the company followed-up with a call to review my order and answer questions. Likewise, the delivery man was very nice, prompt, and helpful. The price is about what I would pay in the supermarket for lesser quality products, and the entire family is happy with the selection of meats and taste. I'm about half-way through my first contract and have no complaints.
