Art DeSolis, as requested, provided estimates for three separate jobs, one to completely redo the driveway, the second to redo only the portion with the worst drainage problem, the third to redo a cobblestone pad at the end of the driveway (for aesthetics). We selected only the first job. When the asphalt was removed, workers discovered that the modified stone foundation was insufficient, particularly because the elevation of one side of the driveway had to be lowered (and also because there was a second layer of asphalt below some modified stone (why would a contractor do this??). Also the border of wooden railway ties had to be disposed of. Because of these two issues, the original estimate was revised upward by $1000 (ouch!--but worth the cost). They completed the work quickly and carefully, continually measuring elevations, and adding a small berm at the driveway entrance to keep stormwater on the cartway and off our driveway. The day after the job was completed, we had extremely heavy rain--the water drained directly to the catch basin instead of onto our front walkway. The driveway was truly a work of Art!
