Mike and his workers did a great job doing major repairs on our 3 flue chimney that was dumping water into the house (crown repair, repointing, joint repair, flashing repair, new damper, new raincap). He was responsive and showed up exactly when he said he would. Definitely recommend.

They attempted to do the top part of the chimney by sending out two kids that were there for about six hours. They mostly played on their cell phones and smoked cigarettes on the porch. When I went up to inspect the work, there were still big holes, cracks and they didn't attempt to fix anything that was not in the line of sight. Plus, the didn't re-point anything from the roof line on down. Plus, when he wrote out the invoice, the line item read "re-point whole chimney." When I asked him why he didn't do the whole chimney, he said that it didn't need it. That prompted me to ask why he charged for the whole thing, and he replied that's just what it costs. Further, he said that if I was dissatisfied, if I kept calling him, he would come back and fix it. Who wants to do that for the $1800 I paid him. He did comeback himself two weeks later. He was there for about an hour and half or two hours, and fixed the holes, big cracks, and top that had been left unfinished the the kids, but he never did the repointing of the whole chimney. I paid about $500 in past for similar work, and I was happy with it. They clean up and were done in 4 hours, and they even repointed the whole thing. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.
Description of Work: I hired them to re-point my whole two story high chimney.

I did not do this work. This gentleman must have me confused with another company. We are from Johnstown and do not do work in Pittsburgh. I do not have kids employed. I have 2 employees ages 30 and 41. I will be making attempts to have this review pulled down or the gentleman would be kind enough to remove this himself.

Scheduled an appointment. They should up on time and quickly went up on the roof to provide an estimate. Called to have a chimney cap installed. Once they were looking at the chimney they told me the chimney crown need repaired and the flashing needed repaired. Cost to install Chimney Cap - $489 Cost to repair crown - $189 Cost to repair flashing - $159 Once I got the total price it was way over my budget. Even the price to just install the cap was over. I decided I would just crawl up on the roof and do the work myself. I performed all the work myself for a total cost of $200. Seemed like nice people but just to expensive.

I hired this company from a referral from someone i work with. After attempting to temporarily seal the chimney my self and found it to still leak, I made the effort to call in a professional to fix the problem. I called and told the owner that i have been having a leak around my chimney during rain. I asked him to look into what it would take to fix my problem. He said he would be out the following afternoon. My wife was home while the chimney man was communicating with me over the phone. He was punctual. After looking over the chimney and roof for approx 5 mins he said he could fix my problem. (I knew the condition of my chimney and flashing from the work I've done and the home inspection that i had this summer. And i know what it takes to properly and permanently repair a roof to a chimney.) At no point did this guy tell me how he was going to fix it or exactly what condition my roof and chimney was in like i asked. I asked him to take pictures of what he did. After coming home i found out that he "sealed" my chimney. At no point did i ever ask him to temporarily seal my chimney, because i spend my own time "sealing" my chimney myself. When i called him afterward he told me quote "this is how you fix a chimney is with tar and you have to maintain this 'patchwork' every couple of years". Are you kidding me?! this guy charges almost $300 an hr to put some tar on a couple nail holes instead of telling me how to and properly fixing my roof. I know for a fact properly attaching chimneys doesn't require tar. properly attach the flashing to the roof, fix any masonry on the brick. i hired a professional to do the work properly so i don't have to keep going in my attic every time it rains. (And the very next storm we had, i still found water coming in around my chimney. Why? Because he thought that tar would fix it.) Also, during this trip he looked in my chimney said it was in need of a cleaning and could cause a fire hazard. So, i told him to clean the chimney while he was there. The next day i decided to look up in the flue to see how he did. Not to my surprise...the entire area just above my fireplace box was completely caked with a tar/caked substance and inch thick. I poked it with the poker and i could scrape it of onto my head. So much for being able to safely use my fireplace. Great job. I didn't hire someone who represents themselves as a specialist in their field, just to waste my time and money to go back and fix it myself

This gentleman had called me and explained to me that his chimney has been leaking and he has been unable to fix the problem himself. I agreed to look at the chimney and would travel the 1 hour to get there. He said he could not be there because he was going to be in a tree stand deer hunting. After arriving I found the problem immediately. It was a gaping hole in the the top of the chimney. I also inspected the fireplace flue and the oil flue for soot buildup and they both needed cleaned very bad. I was dealing with his wife at this point and was giving her a written estimate of all work to be done, to seal the chimney was 289.00 and 189.00 to clean the oil flue and 179.00 to clean the fireplace. These figures cover all work and travel time to and from his house. I presented these figures to his wife and she called her husband while he was in his tree stand. They argued for about 20 minutes over the price and she was visibly very upset with him because he was being so difficult with her. At one point she was very tired of having to deal with this by herself because he was hunting and couldn't be there himself she gave me permission to do the work and signed the contract. I was reluctant to do the work because of this but proceeded anyway.Over the next several days I got several harrasing phone calls from this man and almost called authorities because he would not let up. I traveled 1 hour to and from this mans place and spent 3 hrs working on his chimney for a total of 5 hours. He argued that I only had 2 hrs on this job and would not recognize my travel time. I agreed to return all his money for the work I performed on his chimney. All money was returned to this man without an argument. Even after I returned his money he still kept calling me with degrading remarks. I thought this would be the end of it, and now he has written this bad reveiw about my company. I have been in business for 30 years since 1982 and have over 9,500 very satisfied customers. I take alot of pride in doing good work for people. Anyone interested in our services can call our office and I would be glad to supply them with as many references as they wish. This man was a very difficult individual from the very beginning and now in hindsight I wish I would have made the decision not to do any work for this particular individual. Very sincerely Mike Robson
