Description of Work: I purchased a deal for a certain number of hours. Unfortunately, and not Jim's fault, the project turned out to need more hours. They replaced some ceiling fans and some closet doors, as well as separately, installing some dry wall. | |The work was well done - good quality. | |However, there were some stops and starts. There was a point where his worker couldn't be located. Communication could definitly have been better. Jim wants to do things "the correct way", which is great... but seems to add to the hours and price.

Description of Work: Overall the experience was very good. Jim Brouse, the owner stopped with Quenton, his employee who ended up doing the work. Both were very friendly and responsive to the many items that needed to be done. I bought an Angies List coupon...$299. for $600. worth of services. To be honest, i would not have been satisfied paying $600 for what was done, but to be fair, they owe me an additional 2 hours worth of work. We'll see if that happens. Quenton hung a very heavy mirror for me. installed a TV mount on the wall, and fixed a bathroom door that was off kilter. They apparently were not able to fix the leaking outside spigott because of time restraints. My only complaint was that the clean up was not great. Dust from drilling the walls was left behind, and there was pencil markings left on the walls that you can see even with mirror hung.

I did go back and fulfill the coupon and then some by rebuilding her toilet and installed a new fill line.(with travel time and a trip to the Home Depot over 4 hrs.) I had a discussion with my man about the tidiness while keeping in mind he buired his father earlier that week,

Description of Work: I contacted the company by email upon seeing their big deal on Angieslist list which they acknowledged .I did not hear anything further for about a week and contacted them again with the details and a request to contact me. I am still waiting. Obviously I will not use them even if they contact now. I am very disappointed with Jim Brouse company and I think they never intended to honor the big deal. They should not mislead members.

Description of Work: Jim Brouse eventually responded to my several phone calls and emails. He came to our home this afternoon to look at the jobs that needed to be done. His first words were to ask what we did for a living. (b) When I showed him the main job -- to paint our small front porch inside and outside -- he said he was unable to tell me how long it would take. I repeatedly told him that I could not hire someone who could give me no idea at all of how long a job would take. (c) I showed him another job -- to paint the chinking between the beams on our front hallway wall. He said it was a most intricate job going slowly at the edges of the beams and would take a long time. Again, he said he could not say how long it would take . (d) Mr Brouse said he usually did handyman jobs, simpler things. (e) I then said that it was obvious that nothing was going to work out and I would contact Angie's to cancel the purchase. He said he already had received the money from you and couldn't return it (!!!!). He complained how much it had cost him in gasoline to come here so I offered to repay that. He said that's not how it works. He also said he didn't like Angie's giving jobs so far away. (f) I eventually agreed to have his workers come to do the porch, but on reflection, it is highly likely I would be left with a job half done. He asked me if I could buy another eight hours, but I told him I cannot afford to do that. In various ways, Mr Brouse demonstrated a total lack of professionalism:- (a) his initial question addressing my socio-economic status: I immediately sensed he was wondering if we could afford more work. (b) a construction worker/ hanydman who cannot estimate the cost and/or duration of his services lacks professionalism (c) Has he no painters accustomed to this sort of work? I did the same job in our dining room some years ago and it is not complicated at all to use a small paint brush to go along the edges of the beams. Any little bits of paint that went on to the beams, I was able to wipe off with a damp cloth. There is nothing intricate about it at all, it did not take a lot of time. And I am not a professional home repair person. (d) The painting jobs I had for him are ones I have done myself over the years. (e) When I checked the distance, his address is only twenty seven and a half miles from my home. During our interaction, his cell phone rang several times and at least the last call seemed to come from his wife. He told her he couldn't talk because he was with a client and after a short converstion he hung up. He then complained to me that he couldn't understand why his wife couldn't accept that he could not talk while he was with a client. I cut him off: I did not want to hear about his private life.

Poor experience overall.
Description of Work: I contacted Jim in early November. He said to email him a list of the projects I wanted to have quoted. I had to follow up with him to schedule a time to have someone give an estimate. He sent one of his assistants. He arrived 25 minutes late for the estimate. We went through the house and reviewed the work. He said he would send me pricing within a few days. I followed up with both Jim and his assistant and never received any quote/pricing. Leaving work in the middle of the day to meet this person for an estimate and never getting any response on pricing is really frustrating.

When we set an appointment we do our best to be on time. This lady is in Philadelphia city proper and it is if traffic happens it can be really frustrating for all involved. I sent this lady an estimate 3 days later by Quick Books. Quick Books does not let you know if it was sent or received, I have since CC'ed to myself to make sure it was sent. Why would I pay my man for 3 hrs time and have him drive 60 miles and not give an estimate?

Description of Work: Mr. Brouse had a special on Angie's list for 6 hours with a handyman. Since I have had no experience with what a handyman does I decided to call him before buying the special. This was on a Saturday. He had me e-mail my information to him and then acknowledged that he received the e-mail. I waited four hours to either get another e-mail or a call. It did not happen. On Monday i called again and he told me he could not hear me because he was somplace noisy. he said he would call me back as soon as he got outside. I am still waiting. I would have much more appreciated if he had told me he wasn't interested or wasn't available. Gratefully I had not bought the special becasue I don't see how it could have been a rewarding experience.I tend to be rather easy with people who work for me but I do like them to show up. Also I had not tried to buy the special from him directly. I only wanted to know the scope of his offerings. I have no idea what his work is like but his customer skills are lacking.

Description of Work: My husband purchased a coupon offered by Angie's list to pressure wash home for $249. It was prepaid at the time. We heard from him a few days later saying he wanted to get all the coupons together and then he would schedule the work. A month went by and we did not hear from him. I called him and he said he did not come because he was busy doing additional work customers would request while pressure washing their homes. I informed him that we prepaid for the work and that I would like to schedule the work now. He would not schedule the work. He asked me to email him regarding the phone call. I emailed him and did not hear from him. I asked Angie's list for a refund and did receive one. He told Angie's list that rainy weather disrupted his schedule and he could not complete the work.

Description of Work: I first called Mr. Brouse for a bunch of small jobs, such as replacing an outdoor spigot, installing a light fixture in s closet crawl space, etc. His excellent worker did all of these promptly and most efficiently. They discovered a serious plumbing leak wihile doing these jobs, and I hired them to repair that too, which they did--again--very promptly and, I believe, efficiently. I have asked them to do a few additional tasks which they plan to fit in as possible, I think in the next week or two. I have been totally satisfied.

Description of Work: I called Jim to schedule an estimate, he told me to email him the list of things I need done, which I promptly did. I didn't hear back from him for about 10 days and when I did he said he didn't have either my address or phone number. I sent him both and still haven't heard back from him. I can appreciate that he must be busy, but I've had much better responsiveness from others who I'm sure are equally as busy. I've reviewed the submissions on his work and they seem to be very small projects. The work I need done will definitely be in the thousands of dollars. I guess he can afford to blow off big projects in favor of small ones?
