The whole experience was a disaster. He constantly no-showed, and then finally showed up at 10 p.m. to do the job in pitch darkness with work lamps, making a lot of noise and asking to borrow lamps from us. The next day they came back to clean up but left bits of dried & spilled concrete everywhere and tape around the porch remained. He gave a written warranty of 3 years for the job, but the next spring (after about 5 months), the concrete began to peel and chip and looked horrible. I called him about 10 times over the spring & summer to ask him to fix or apply another layer, or, finally, refund some our $500. He was nearly impossible to reach directly, didn't return phone calls, and on occasion that I did reach him, always promised to come to do the work, but never came back.
Description of Work: Nick & co. (Service Unlimited) was hired to re-surface (rotar-brush concrete) our front porch and steps.

He is very responsive. He always calls me back. He guarantees his work for three years, but says it will last longer. He repaired a crack in the driveway and put more cement on the steps on the porch and resurfaced it. The end result was that the areas that he resurfaced look like new. He also suggested putting some concrete ramps on my sidewalk to decrease tripping hazards. He is very reasonable priced. He came back to my house several times to take a look and make sure everything looked OK. Rust had eaten a big hole in my vertical railing. He replaced it and it looks like new.
Description of Work: He repaired concrete on my front steps, porch, driveway and my sidewalk. He is also a general contractor and he repaired my front wrought iron railing.

Horrible! His rudeness and unprofessional behavior ensured that we would not retain him for the long-term maintenance of our property. And then his leaving the job unfinished meant that we would act to enforce our rights in every possible way. For a $4500 contract, is it too much to ask for: 1. Professional and courteous conduct. 2. Not to be threatened. 3. Provide at least 1 sample before beginning each piece of work. 4. Not complaining and/or ranting when we point out any (small) flaws in the completed work. 5. Redo a part of the work when the associated sample was never provided, and installation proceeded without our consent? Update: he returned on a weekday and vandalized a part of the retaining wall. The police were informed.
Description of Work: We hired Nicholas Clark of Service Unlimited to perform three improvements in our landscape, for a total of $4500. The improvements were: front yard retaining wall and borders; backyard walkway and borders; backyard patio. The total cost was $4500 and payable 1/2 up front and 1/2 later. Our complaints are: 1. He is unprofessional and adopts a threatening tone and language in conversation. For example, when he wanted to change the terms of the contract so that he would get more money before completion, he said "what would happen if you died in a car accident and I don't get paid?". 2. He did not complete the retaining wall (see below in Unfinished Tasks) even though we paid him 1/2 up front. 3. He is not honest. He did not show us samples as promised. He claimed that "we kept changing the specs", even though all we did was say that we didnt like one sample that he showed us. He said that he looked in "15 local stores" for material; when we went looking for material, we found it in the first local store that we visited. 4. He installed material without showing us samples, and when we pointed that out, he ranted about how we cant change things once they are done. 5. When we had located the materials in the local stores, we wrote down detailed specs and called him back with the information. He refused to bring the materials to the site, which was also a breach of contract. The unfinished tasks are: 1. No sample provided for flower bed border before installation. Refuses to correct error. 2. Walkway wood border not nailed down, or treated or cured for outdoor use. 3 Retaining wall incomplete: lower stones not anchored down. 4. Retaining wall incomplete: top stones not anchored down. 5. Retaining wall incomplete: broken corner stone not replaced. 6. Walkway not completed. 7. Walkway gravel was not acquired in sufficient quantity. 8. Patio not completed. 9. Old patio bricks and walkway stone left on street in the back, not removed. The finished tasks are: 1. Wood border acquired, but not treated and cured. 2. Retaining wall partially installed. 3. Patio and walkway cleared of old brick and stone. We can provide a detailed written timeline and extensive photographic evidence.
