We had an oven fire that caused an extensive amount of smoke damage throughout the entire house. Mellon acted as the general contractor and hired various other services as well as had their own folks working in our home on nearly a daily basis for a month. Everyone was very considerate and did a terrific job. Because this was covered by insurance, I cannot assess the price for the job.

Went well once the work was performed. The damage occurred and a damage estimate was given in FebruaryMarch of 2016. Work did not commence until almost 6 months later when I contacted my insurance company who had hired Mellon for the work. It was like the project was entirely forgotten about. Once finally complete, I am satisfied with the work that was done.

After a Storm around the end of August 2013 I had some light flooding in my basement and some damaged to the roof and siding of my house which caused some water leaks into my living room and bedroom. I called my insurance company and they sent out Mellon Certified Restoration. Initially they were very responsive, they were out the very next day after my phone call to the Insurance Company to mediate the flooding and dry up the interior water leaks in the living room, bedroom and basement of the house. But after that it seemed like they took forever to do the repairs. They finally came out in October to do the repairs to the roof and to paint the interior where the water damaged had occurred and of this posting, Nov 11 2013, I am still waiting for them to do the repairs to the siding. When they arrive they are very professional and thorough. I have no complaints on there work. It's just there response time that I am a little frustrated with.

The estimate was for $6000. It was not the most expensive estimate that we had but I used somebody else that was less expensive. However, they were quick to respond. They called us and said that they would be here at a certain time and they were here. They were very good in terms of their professionalism as they answered the questions and were very polite. I would use them again in the future if there is a need.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Mellon Certified Restoration in the early September 2011 to repair the damage from the flood that we had.

Water in my mother?s basement was 50" deep on Monday, April 18. I called Mellon to pump out the water and told them my mother had no insurance. I gave my name as point of contact because my mother was staying with me at the time, but said it was my mother?s house and she would be paying the bill. Two men arrived at approximately 7:00 PM. By this time, the water had receded and was approximately 27" deep. My mother signed the contract for emergency services, and again stated that she had no insurance. She asked how much it would cost, and was told that an estimator would come out to the house. The men couldn?t get the pump started (they said it was brand new and had never been used before), so two other men were called out. They finally got the pump working around 9:30 PM, 2½ hours later, and pumped until 12:30 AM. The same men came to the house on Tuesday morning (April 19) and set up a dehumidifier and 8 fans. Again, we asked about the estimate and stated that my mother had no insurance, and were told that an estimator would come out to the house. The debris from the basement was taken outside and placed on the lawn. We requested to have Mellon haul the debris away, but canceled the request several days later when Camp Hill Borough sent a truck to pick up the debris. Every day someone came to the house to check the humidity level in the basement, and every day we told whoever showed up that my mother had no insurance and asked when the estimator was coming because we wanted a written estimate. One person said he thought that dehumidifiers were approximately $100 per day and fans were $30 per day, but he thought the charge was lower if there was no insurance. Other than that, we still had no clue what the final cost would be. We called the office several times to ask about the estimate (each time mentioning the lack of insurance), and were told the estimator would be out ?tomorrow? or ?in a couple of days.? We were finally given the name of the estimator; my mother called him and left a voicemail, but he never returned her call. After 5 days, the basement was finally dry, and the fans and dehumidifiers were removed. We still had not seen or heard from an estimator. We originally wanted Mellon to clean and disinfect the floor and walls, but were unable to get anyone scheduled to do it. We canceled the request when a church group offered to do the cleaning. Near the end of April, my mother received a survey from Mellon asking her to rate the performance of the workers, including the estimator. She called the office and told them that she never received a bill and had never seen an estimator. On May 20 (3 weeks later), my mother received an invoice dated April 28, but the bill was in my name. The invoice was for $3,477.41 but was not itemized at all. The estimator listed was the same name we had been given. My mother called the office and told them to take my name off the bill and to send an itemized statement. The next day, my mother received a written estimate dated May 20. It said the job was estimated on April 22 and gave a different estimator's name. It also said that at the time the assignment was received no insurance coverage information was provided. This is not true?my mother and I told everyone who came to the house and everyone we talked to on the phone that she had no insurance. At no time did anyone come to the house and identify himself as an estimator. The "itemized statement" was basically useless because it didn?t list the cost per service; it gave a total dollar amount and a list of services provided. Also, some items were wrong. The estimate listed a single axle dump truck and dump fees, but Mellon never hauled any of the debris. I called and asked for a statement listing how much they charged for each service, but the estimator (the original name we were given) said he wouldn't send one because I didn't need to know that information. Really? Then I asked why the dump truck and dump fees were listed even though we didn't have Mellon haul the debris away. He hemmed and hawed a bit, then said he'd send out another statement for $175 less. The work itself was done well. They arrived to pump out the basement several hours after I called, when other companies couldn't come for several days. The billing, however, was a nightmare and therefore we won't be using Mellon in the future.
