Mc Clure came to the house and gave estimates for several manufacturers. Price was comparable, but not the lowest of 4 contractors. Mc Clure came to house on appointed day and completed work that day. Equipment, electrical and duct work were done very neatly. No problems were noted. The work area was cleaned before they left. They took all trash with them. Very professional job. The equipment has functioned well for 10 months since installation. There has been no need to call them back for any service.
Description of Work: Replacement of whole-house forced air gas furnace and air conditioner at my residence. Gas furnace and AC were high efficiency units. Minimum duct work involved. Both internal and external AC units replaced. Existing gas pipe extended in basement for future use.

Fine. Careful. Thoughtful and professional. They do all the HVAC/plumbing at my home.
Description of Work: Installation of a new boiler - presented as extremely efficient. After three days installing the boiler, it did not provide enough hot water. The company made several visits to resolve the problems and ultimately called a factory technician in to assist - assuring me all the while that they'd make it right. They certainly did - and I remain pleased. I had called HB McClure to repair once and for all some very bad work that had been done by another plumbing/HVAC firm, and they performed those jobs well and all jobs since. They are responsive, professional, and their work so far has been just fine.

Patient, analytical assessment of our situation; design of system appropriate for our home, full explanation of the the proposal and continued discussion during installation, both by the designer and the installers. Responsive to correction of a small glitch. (we just built a whole house and know better than to get bent out of shape when something goes wrong. It's how they handle fixing it that counts.) Now we are in the house and the system provides even, comfortable heat and cooling. This house presented some unique design challenges: the proof is in the result, and they got it right. Extremely happy.

They have been very responsive so far. They pointed out to a couple of things in the morning in my heating and air conditioning system. They have called me again today to say that one of their crew members has some time and if he could come by to take a look at one of the things that they had pointed out in the morning. I thought it was awesome. So far, I have been happy with their response and with their professionalism. I like them compared to the other services providers who I have interacted with. I like the technical expertise that they bring to this job. It has been a positive experience so far. They have also been very prompt and timely. I would be using their services this time.

They were the highest price that we received. They came and gave us an estimate, but wanted to us to sign with them as soon as possible. We like to get several estimates. They contacted us after they gave the quote to see if we had any questions, or if we wanted to sign up yet. They didn't get too pushy, but they were close.

I first found out about the leaks because I hired John (who is excellent) to do a blower door test and he discovered them with his equipment. I hired the company again to repair the leaking pieces of pipe and they scheduled me for the very next business day. The worker who came to my house was finished in under 2 hours. The only concern I had was that I was quoted for a 4 hour job and paid the same amount, but the worker said that the company charges for travel time as well. However, he mentioned several times that he did not know too much about the residential aspect of the company because he was just filling in and normally worked on commercial projects. I was a bit disappointed because he was not able to answer my questions. But the job got completed quickly and well so I can't complain.

We had used McClure for plumbing in our bathroom renovation. They did an excellent job, so we contacted them to install new heat pump when the old one died. They did a terrific job so we signed up for a yearly maintenance plan. This has been our second year and we've had no problems.

The two installers arrived on time and finished everything within that same day. They did everything specified in the contract and answered any questions I had. They were friendly and efficient. When we developed a problem with the condensate pump a month later, another person came out and replaced it with one that was of better quality and quieter.

In mid July we had an estimator from H.B. McClure (Bill Judy) come out to our house to give us a price on removing a thermal storage system and installing aux heat strips for our heat pump. On the 28th we received the proposal in the mail, and noted that it said they would be connecting "existing back up electric heat". As we don't currently have aux heat strips, I called Bill to get an updated proposal. He didn't answer so I left a voicemail. The next day he called back, and informed me that it was simply a mistake when he was typing the proposal up, and that the price would remain the same. Just to be sure, I asked for an accurate proposal to be mailed to me. Bill told me he would fix the error and send another copy. On August 4th, having not received the proposal yet I gave Bill another call. Again he didn't answer so I left a voicemail. He called back the next day, and told me he had been busy and was not able to fix the proposal yet, but would get it updated and mailed when he had office time the following Monday (the 9th). Another week passed, and I called again on the 16th. No answer again, when he called back the next day he told me it was sitting on his desk, and would be mailed out the following day. Needless to say I was getting a little annoyed at this point, I had quotes from other companies that were slightly more expensive than the price on H.B. McClure quoted me, which was why I was giving Bill time to get the fixed proposal mailed to me. It's now August 26th, a month after the first proposal and I have still not received a fixed proposal in the mail. We decided to go with another company who was much more responsive than H.B. McClure. In the end, I would warn anyone doing a time sensitive project to be careful with this company.

Thank you for taking the time to post your concerns. I spoke with our estimator to verify the points you presented. We pretty much agree with your description of events. (minor disagreement on some dates but that is not the point) Our problem here was understanding your sense of urgency to have this work done. Our estimator thought that he had your permisson to address this prior to heating season. Consequently he was focusing his efforts on folks in urgent need of air conditioning. In his mind (right or wrong) we are still in August and through his conversations with you, he thought you could wait until September for the revised heating system modification proposal. Obviously that was not the case. On the majority of residential estimate calls we run, we provide a written proposal on site during our initial visit. A few circumstances require us to return to the office to calculate the pricing and submit a proposal. Our target for turning around those proposals is 5 business days. Apparently he failed to submit the modified quote in the time frame you expected. We apologize for this mis-understanding. I will share your story with our staff at our next group meeting in the hope that we do not fail to meet another client's expectations. We wish you well with this project and ask that you keep us in mind for any future work. Thanks again for posting your concerns.

It was a very good experience. The technician was prompt, effecient, friendly and professional. I would most definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our ceiling which was a hole in our one service water line. The technician repaired the hole by saudering and then testing to make sure it was fixed. He completed the job in less than an hour which I thought was great. He was also very friendly and proffessional.

HB McClure seems to have restructured their business into separate commercial and residential divisions. (I'm assuming this since a competing company, Haller, has recently done the same, but with very different results from the residential point of view.) Based on my experience this afternoon, HB McClure no longer seems that interested in the residential jobs. I'm completing installation of a new kitchen at the back of an older house. Rough plumbing was done some time ago, electrical is almost done, cabinets, sinks are in. Appliances are there but need to be installed. I'm getting 3 bids for finished plumbing and installation of relevant appliances.. I was just told on the phone that HB McClure would be happy to come and give an estimate, but that I would have to pay a retainer fee of $180, which would be applied to the total cost of the job if I accept their bid. Haller and Eshenaurs are both coming to look over the job and give me an estimate -- no fee for either of those companies. HB McClure's Harrisburg site is located less than 5 miles from my house. I told them to forget it.

First, I'd like to state that we provide thousands of free in-home estimates each year that include (but are not limited to) the following types of work: air conditioning, boilers, heat pumps, furnaces, water contidioning systems, geothermal, solar, electric back-up generator, and duct cleaning. During your call to our office we categorized your call to be a kitchen/bath renovation project. For this particular type of project we do operate on a retainer basis as you described above. Here is why we do this. In our experience, for this type of work, our staff typically spends a lot of time on-site and back in the office assisting the client in selecting fixtures, cabinets, tile and counter tops; preparing permit drawings and providing a detailed proposal. Unfortunately for us, a lot of these proposals result in no work for HB McClure. Sometimes the client elects not to do the project at all; while other times our proposed scope of work is self-performed by the client or our proposal documents are provided to another firm where they do the work that we outlined. Because we are not a comissioned-based sales force, we as a company find ourselves paying our staff (in many instances) to provide free design consutation services. In order to keep our pricing as low as possible for all products and services we offer; we instituted this retainer fee policy for kitchen/bath renovation projects. I am please that our office staff explained our proceedure to you correctly. Some clients are happy to work with us under these terms; while a few others like yourself have elected not. I am sorry that we could not do business on this project.

They were easy to work with in regards to scheduling the work that needed to be done. They gave us a 2 hour window when the technician would be there, but called me about 15 min before they arrived at our home. The technician was very professional, worked quickly, and described to us all the work he performed.

When I called, they could not give me a good guess as to when they could send a technician to look at the heat pump. It took two days for a technician to come to the house. However, once he arrived he was very open and honest about the problems and quickly fixed the issue. He did not try to sell me on other services but suggested some services if I should have the problem again in the near future.
Description of Work: Had ice build up on my heat pump. The technician identified that the system was low on freon.

We contacted another company because our Heat Pump was not functioning properly. They gave us an estimate of $9,700 for the same model (Trane XL16i 3 Ton)... we shopped around and HB McClure had the best price by far... $400 less than 2nd lowest price. They were able to schedule us quickly and the service team arrived promptly on the install date... since our system was down completely, salesman offered to bring over heaters to hold us over... THANKS HB!

Our A/C had intermittent problems on a Saturday. I could not get anyone to come out on Saturday. I believe H.B. McClure may come out on the weekend now that I am an official customer. Of the the 3 or 4 places I contacted on Saturday, H.B. McClure was the first to get someone out on Monday. I will probably use them for my future HVAC and plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Technician was very friendly and up front. He took his time and used what looked like advanced diagnostic devices on my air conditioner. I had suspected the the fan on the outside unit was bad, but after he ran all his tests it turned out it was the capacitor (starts the fan and the compressor). It had apparently been wired wrong by another HVAC company early in the summer. H.B. Mclure technician assured me that the fan and compressor were in good shape. He replaced the capacitor and wired it correctly this time. It has been running like a charm ever since.

I called them and got onto their list. A few days later they called and said they could come out. I let them enter the house with key-less entry. They worked with me over the telephone. It was a an extremely positive experience. They fixed the problem, the price was reasonable, they stayed within the estimate. You could not ask for more.
Description of Work: Repair to AC and cleaning of heater. They gave me an estimate and when they found that I also needed a filter they subtracted that off so that I did not go over the estimate. I would highly recommend them.

The person that came out was nice. It was kind of strange, but I did trust being around him. He did a great job. It took him about 45 minutes to get the drain to work properly. He did leave the area decently clean. Before he left, he wiped the area down. I still went behind him and cleaned after he left though.
Description of Work: I had them clean out the drain in my kitchen. It was not draining at all. They plunged it, poured chemicals down the drain, and snaked it some.
