Mr. Ken Lundy was our salesperson. This is the first time we have owned a propane tank and he answered all my questions. He was very kind and professional. The propane was delivered right after Hurricane Sandy and the delivery person told me the area where the gas goes into was full of water. He said that I would need to get the water out of that area or my regulator could be damaged. I called Mr. Lundy and he came over the next day and siphoned the water out by hand. What a relief that was, because I was worried about all the water that had gotten into that area. Mr. Lundy went above and beyond to help us. I am very happy with the service I received from this company. I will definitely use them again. Mr. Lundy gave us great customer service and that is hard to find sometimes!

H B McClure's estimate for the work was slightly lower than the other bidders for our project. They needed to postpone the installation by one day (I received a call Monday morning that they could not start on Tuesday due to another job taking longer than expected). The crew arrived Wednesday right on time, were very apologetic that the work was delayed by one day, and worked 12 hours to make up for lost time. They returned right on time Thursday to finish connecting the air conditioner. They left the basement cleaner than it was when work began. Two years later, we have not had a single issue with the furnace, air conditioner or hot water heater. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced existing forced air natural gas furnace, air conditioner and hot water heater. Trane XC95m Gas Furnace, Trane XL15i Air Conditioner and RUUD Powervent Hot Water Heater. All equipment was vented directly to the exterior of the house with PVC. They also installed a humidifier and filter box for a media air filter.

I called the and the receptionist she said and someone would contact me. I waited 48 hours and no one called. I called again and was transferred to the estimator. The estimator did not answer, I left a message and he did not return my phone call. I just wanted someone to contact me back. I thought it was unprofessional. If your busy I understand that and I just wanted someone to contact me.

Thank you for your posting. Failure to respond to an inquiry is unprofessional an inexcusable. I appologize not being responsive to your request. In an effort to investigate this matter, I researched our call logs/internal e-mails and looked for any evidence of correspondence between our client service reps and the plumbing estimate group during the timeframe mentioned above that contained your name and/or street address. I found no information about this call coming in for either of your two calls. It is highly unusual for this to occur. We are in business to answer the requests of our clients and have tracking proceedures in place to avoid this from happening. I take you at your word that there is no confusion and you really called HB McClure [and not a similar sounding competitor]. I have used your comments as a learning experience for our staff to review our current SOP to avoid a repeat of your situation. Thanks again for taking time for your post

We called them in the morning and they were here the same morning. We signed up for the program that they have, this is a program which gives special discounts for replacements and repair. I will recommend their services. They are quick and professional.

I've been using H.B. McClure for some time now, mostly for HVAC work. While they do tend to be on the pricey side, they are always punctual, easy to work with and highly professional. I never feel anxious about whether they're going to show up on time or do quality work. So, to me, the peace of mind is worth what might be a slight premium in terms of price. So, this time around, I didn't bother calling anyone else. I called on a Tuesday and they had me scheduled for Friday between 8-10am. They called the day before to confirm the appointment and narrow the window to 8-9am - and they were in fact, at my doorstep by 8:15am. You can't beat them for punctuality. I spoke with Cory briefly, he gave me a couple of different price options, and then did the work quickly (roughly 45 minutes from start to finish). He even tolerated my curious 7-year-old, monitoring the job :) In short, I am and have been very happy with H.B. McClure and will continue to recommend them to my friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: We had a loud whining noise coming from the main water feed into the house. After it had done this for some time, I made some adjustments to the pressure relief valve, which helped, but did not correct the issue permanently. H.B. McClue came out in a timely manner, confirmed the diagnosis and replaced the valve.

The guy did a nice job and did some extra stuff for us. He checked out the heat pump and then he checked out the air ducts.
Description of Work: We have a service contract with HB McClure. We had our furnace installed in 2010 and they came back in November of 2011 for a tune-up. We have the platinum package that includes service for six years.

It went very well, I was very happy with the service and knowledge of the serviceman.
Description of Work: I was having a problem with my gas steam boiler kicking on 20 times per hour, and the house never heating up. I also wanted my boiler cleaned and checked. I called HB McClure and asked for a serviceman who had expertise in old homes, radiators and boilers. They sent out Don who, despite being young, knew exactly what was going on with my heat. He cleaned and checked the boiler. he was honest and said it was pretty clean since gas burns clean. He changed my cycle rate from 5 to 1 in my thermostat - when the new boiler/thermostat was installed, the installer never calibrated it. Now, the heat goes on less often and for a longer period of time, giving all the radiators, and therefore my whole house, a chance to heat up. I recently received my heating bill, and it cost less than the previous month despite having used more gas. That's because the boiler is now working more efficiently with the thermostat being properly calibrated. I spent 2 winters freezing in this house trying to figure out what was going on! I'm very happy I called HB McClure and for only $114 I'm warm this winter!

Fifteen minutes after I called them someone from their office called back asking about my needs and assured me that the next Monday morning they would be here with the new water heater. The HB McClure protocol for handling ‘after hours’ EMERGENCY service calls is that the answering service immediately calls, texts, and e-mails the on-call mechanics and the on-call supervisor. Our goal from that point is to have our staff make contact with the client within one hour of the original call. At that point our personnel will discuss and determine our next step in rendering service. It’s great to hear confirmation that our procedure works well. In our nearly 100 years of business we know how important it is to be there for our clients. True emergency calls of ‘no heat’ or ‘no hot water’ are serious problems that need to be addressed quickly. They did the work over two days. Other than day one everything went according to plan and they were finished in the amount of time they said they would be. The first day they were supposed to be here at 6:30 am and they didn't get here until 12:30. They were still working on people with the floods so I sort of understood that. It was finished in the two day time period so that was fine.
Description of Work: I used HB McClure to replace my HVAC system. They pulled out the old furnace, air conditioner and hot water tank. They replaced those three items with more energy efficient and newer models.

The guys were on time. I went to the basement with them. I had a number of questions, which the senior guy failed to have any intelligent answer for and the trainee never opened his mouth. Although, he acted as if the problem was a common one, he could not explain to me why and whether or not what he was during would create a permanent fix. Seemed it took them a long time to do a job that he described as "common". I was just frustrated with the fact the my questions couldn't be answered readily and they left me with the feeling that it might not be fixed and to keep an eye on it. Can't remember the names of the guys and not sure whether I am accurate on the charge, but I can tell you that I knew halfway through the job that I wouldn't be calling them back! Fortunately, so far so good.
Description of Work: I had just moved into a new townhouse in April 2011. In May in started to get a bit hot outside and it was much hotter in the house. So I turned on the air conditioning. After a few days it seemed like it was taking forever to cool off the house. I was frustrated because the townhouse was just finished being built in 2007. Then when I went to the basement I discovered a large ice chunk surrounding a copper pipe coming from the inside HVAC unit and as I followed it to the wall towards the outside unit, there was dripping condensation on the pipe. That's when I joined Angie's List. It seemed that H.B. McClure got a very good rating so I called them, explained the situation, and set up an appointment. Two guys came. They cleaned out the dehumidifier pump by dropping in some kind of tablet in it and they put a new tank in the outside unit.

Thank you for your comments! We strive to satisfy every client. To achieve that goal we need to know if you are not happy, so we can address your concerns. I have reviewed the work performed at your home and have the following observations: -We arrived as scheduled to perform an inspection of your existing Trane furnace and AC system. -Our senior technician did have ‘trainee’ along for this call [for which you were NOT billed for the 2nd man on the job]. We believe that providing newly-hired staff an opportunity to ride along with a senior technician [at no additional cost to the client] is the best way to integrate them in to our methods and practices. -During our visit we performed routine maintenance/cleaning in order to determine the cause of the icing you noticed on the refrigerant lines. There are generally two causes of AC systems ‘icing up’; the first is low air-flow caused by a dirty air filter and/or dirty blower wheel while the 2nd cause is low refrigerant level. Both of these circumstances are quite common. -We discovered that your unit was a little low in refrigerant. Refrigerant leaks can be extremely difficult to locate. They can be in the coil of the outdoor unit, in the connecting tubing or in the coil mounted in the duct above the furnace. We typically do a visual inspection for traces of residue at accessible points of the refrigerant circuit. If we find no visual evidence, we offer to re-charge the system with refrigerant [to make the system operational] and add a UV dye to the system. Then on a subsequent visit we use a UV light to locate the leak; and, when authorized, we make the repair. Otherwise we could spend hours trying to find a very small leak that we may or, more likely, may not locate; resulting in a higher service repair bill. -Our subsequent visit is typically our next annual inspection—unless the refrigerant leaks out prior to then, which would result in you noticing a lack of cooling prompting a call to our office. -Apparently you authorized our technician to take this step because I see that we added one pound of R-22 and dye to the system. -If you asked our man where the leak was or how long will the refrigerant will last before it runs out again, he would not be able to provide a specific answer. Apparently the leak is quite small because we made it thru one of the hottest summers on record without needing to add more refrigerant. -As things stand right now, we have you set up for an annual system inspection visit next spring. -I am perfectly willing to proceed with that plan. If you are not comfortable with this we can cancel that inspection and refund your $109.00 for the service plan. The option is entirely yours. -You indicated that our technician was not communicative during his visit. While I am not disputing your experience; I find that out of character for him. He is generally one of the more talkative technicians on our staff. I obviously wasn’t there so it is difficult for me to comment on nature of the dialogue that took place in your home. I can only speculate that you were asking questions for which there was no firm answer. The UV dye is a diagnostic tool for future repairs. Unless the leak is located there is no firm answer on the related repairs. -Please call our office if you’d like to discuss this directly. Thanks again for voicing you concerns.

HB McClure Co came to my house for an emergency visit. They were extremely efficient. They came during a Christmas week. I have not had any trouble with the same problem since they came. They are not cheap though.

Thank you for the positive comments for our handling of your plumbing service call. I am pleased to know you found us to be "extremely efficient" in our approach for this emergency work. I guess I'll agree with you that we are not "cheap." But I would argue that we are very fairly priced for the services we deliver. Unfortunately there is a cost for us to provide emergency service. We are staffed with several CSRs who field incomming client calls and a dispatcher who coordinates our arrival to your site by one of our 40+ service technicians. Wells were drilled by Eichelbergers. HB Mclure installed the interior unit. HB Mclure coordinated the entire operation. The installation went well and it is a beautiful job to look at. The old system was removed and disposed of with no mess.

The overall work was really good and they were excellent. Their sales people were very information. I asked a lot of questions. They did the work when they said they'd do the work. They had to wait for the drill people. I think they worked well around the schedules they were stuck with. They were here every day and tidied up. I was really very pleased with their performance. I think their price was close to the other companies that I was looking at.
Description of Work: H B McClure put in the furnace and heat pump in December. They also put in a water heater that would run off of the geothermal.

They were very professional, and they did a very nice job. I am very satisfied with how the job went. Their price was competitive. They were a little bit better than the others who quoted, and they were very good at explaining things. Based on their explanation, I had confidence that they would do a good job, and they did.
