Matt Toney was very responsive and polite. I gave him a list of the furniture and items that he would be moving and he provided a quote. We talked a couple times before the actual move date, when I called to tell him I had overlooked a few items, etc. The day before the move I contacted Matt to tell him how many boxes would be included with the furniture and asked if he wanted to get a bigger truck - he said it was probably too late. The day of the move, Matt and Chris arrived on time and they worked hard. Matt put the UHAUL mattress and box protectors on but decided not to use the sofa protector. They were pretty careful about not banging up walls, though the dolly did some damage to threshholds at the house I moved from. When we arrived at the new house, they stacked boxes in the garage as asked, and moved the furniture in. I realized a small dresser had been left at the house and said if they would put it in my car, I could bring it over myself. I think this was due to miscommunication on my part, as some things were staying at the house. There was a good bit of hush hush as they moved things in and once everything was in, Matt was in a big hurry to return the truck before some implied deadline but he agreed to meet me at the house to pick up a door stop he had left and to put the dresser in my car. Because they had worked hard and I didn't want him to be penalized for returning the truck late, I foolishly paid Matt without insisting that we look at all the pieces of furniture they had moved in. Here is a partial list of the damage to my furniture: Guest bedroom box spring and pillowtop mattress (scraped off fabric on edge/corner and dirty from dragging even though it was in a UHAUL mattress/box protector), Living room couch (dirt on back of couch from footprint? & metal gliders yanked out of couch legs by dragging) TV cabinet, (at least 9 half-dime or larger dings to the moldings and edges & metal gliders yanked out), Master bedroom bedside table 1 (large wide scrape to the finish on top), Master bedroom bedside table 2 (several nicks/dings), Master bedroom cedar chest (large gouge to side). The contents of at least one box were shattered - it was pottery that was very special to me - There are many boxes I have not yet opened - be aware they do not guarantee boxes will not be damaged. Also, I actually moved my clothing, dishes, and many boxes of fragile items myself. No furniture was actually broken, but refinishing is very expensive, not to mention the cost of getting it to the re-finisher and the inconvenience of being without the furniture. Last time I moved, friends from church moved me about 30 miles and NOTHING was damaged. The time before that I moved about 350 miles and NOTHING was damaged by the professional mover. There is no guarantee that because someone charges more for a service, the service will be better. Therefore, I can't say for sure that if Exceptional Movers had actually looked at the job and quoted a higher price, they would have taken the time to be more careful with my things. But I can say they did not seem to have a careless attitude.
