We were VERY happy with the quality of Daryl's workmanship overall! You will not find a better mason out there that does the quality work that Daryl Hunsberger of DWH Masonry Services does! He completed the pointing on the inside of our walkout basement in the early spring and summer of 2017. The craftsmanship and skill he puts into his work is evident in his finished work. He takes care in the methodical way he goes about doing his job. He has the right tools to the job right, the first time around. Even when there were moisture issues due to it being a damp spring, he was so flexible in his schedule that he delayed completing the project until the summer when conditions were more conducive. We feel that if it had been any other mason, they would had rushed the process, just to move on to their next job. With Daryl, you don’t get just a basic mason looking to make a quick buck, you get the experience and know-how of a true tradesman. Since we had worked with Daryl over a 3-year period and were most impressed with his work, we decided to ask him to remove a front concrete walkway and construct two brick stoops; at the front door entryway and at the walkout basement. We were once again thrilled at this man’s mad masonry skill set. He constructed two of the most remarkable stoops worthy enough to accentuate his already flawless stone pointing. The geometry that went into the layout of each brick to get such crisp lines and precise angles is mathematical genius on his part. The scope of work we originally contacted Daryl on has gone beyond just pointing our stone home to include other masonry projects, that we will look no further than DWH Masonry Services when it comes time to plan and construct our next project, an outdoor living space. Thanks Daryl for doing such an outstanding job each time and at every phase of this project!

The contractor immediately answered the phone and came out the same day to get measurements. I was told I would get an estimate the next day. I never heard from him again. This was very unprofessional to me. I would not recommend him he does not follow through.
Description of Work: This was to get a sidewalk tore up and redone.

Found Daryl on Angie's List. Received a quote from him for a client's chimney repoint. His price was reasonable. He showed up and did quality work. Hired him again for another client. This time, he did not call the client back or show up when he said he would. I called him on behalf of the client, he showed up, completed the work and again satisfied. I called him to do some repointing work on my home. He gave me a quote and scheduled a time to do the work. I waited the couple weeks he requested, I called him the night before and left a message to remind him of our appointment. He never called or showed up. This set me behind as I needed him to do the repointing before I could install the landscaping. One time no show, give the guy another chance. Two times, no show... unprofessional and unacceptable.

I found Mr. Hunsberger's reviews to be promising. I call him on 5/11/16 and left a message. On the morning of 5/13/16 I called again since I had yet to receive a returned call. When I spoke to Mr. Hunsberger he stated he was going to call me that afternoon (maybe?). We briefly discussed the work I needed done and we made an appointment for the next morning at 0800. Mr. Hunsberger showed up the next morning (5/14/16) as discussed, and was a few minutes early (good). We discussed the work needed to be done, he took measurements, and stated he would provide me with a quote either that day or the next (5/15/16). As of 5/18/16 I had yet to receive a quote from Mr. Hunsberger and called and left a message. As of the date of this post (5/21/16) I still have yet to receive a quote or even a returned call in response to the message left on the 18th. It is quite obvious, Mr. Hunsberger is too busy to follow through with his commitments. Needless to say, I did find and hire a contractor NOT on Angie's List.
Description of Work: No work was performed. Mr. Hunsberger only came to my home to review the work needed to be done in order to provide a quote.

Daryl took my call. I didn't have to leave a message. He showed up for the estimate when he said he would. He provided an estimate when he said he would. His quote was lower than another Mason I contacted on Angie's list. Daryl showed up when he said he would to do the work. He did a professional job. I realize all the above sounds like "How you should run a business 101" Amazing, many contractors don't. Very happy with Daryl Hunsberger and will hire him again and refer him to my clients.
Description of Work: Daryl Hunsberger repointed a chimney and also did some sidewalk repair.

We received a total of four (4) quotes for the pointing of our stone home. Since this is a major financial undertaking, we decided to break the project up into phases to be able to better budget for the project. Daryl Hunsberger of DWH Masonry, LLC was the first to come out and review the scope of the pointing project and he provided a mortar color chart for our reference, since there were a number of colors options we had to select from. From the start, Daryl was extremely professional and consistent in his communications with us. After taking his measurements and talking with us about the phasing of the project, he said that he would get back to us in a few days with his written estimate. In the meantime, we had meetings with two (2) other Angie?s List contractors and one (1) non-Angie?s List contractor. What we found unprofessional on the part of these mason contractors is their negative attitude towards other mason contractors. It seemed to us that they were so willing to badmouth other mason contractors if their approach to the project was not in line with theirs. This negativity and unprofessionalism on their part played into us not giving these contractors the business, simply because as a skilled tradesman, you shouldn?t have to degrade someone else?s solution/approach in order to make your approach seem like the most logical one. We selected Daryl Hunsberger of DWH Masonry, LLC because he let his workmanship speak for itself and he quickly aligned all expectations with the realities of the unpredictability of spring weather and his timeline for completing various steps of this Phase I project. He was not the least expensive mason contractor we got estimates from, but as it was stated earlier, he was the most professional of all the mason contractors we got estimates from and the lowest priced estimate was not our main objective when seeking bids for this project. We went with our first impression and Daryl set the bar high, right from the start. Being timely is part of being professional and we were shocked at how these other mason contractors didn?t factor this into their first impression with a potential client. We even had one contractor just show up without confirming his schedule with us and we were in the process of discussing the project with another contractor we he arrived. Enough about the ?other? mason contractors; the ONLY one you need to know about in this review is Daryl Hunsberger of DWH Masonry, LLC. He is somewhat laid-back, but don?t be fooled by this casual demeanor, his focus is unrelenting and he makes it look so effortless. He also runs a very clean jobsite, considering the about of dust and debris that is generated from the grinding/chiseling out of the old mortar. The positive feedback that we received from the transformation of the new pointing has given us additional curb appeal and restored these portions of this stone home to its previously unrealized potential. If you are looking for a truly skilled and gifted mason, look no further than Daryl Hunsberger of DWH Masonry, LLC. We tell everyone that stops by to ask about our new pointing about him and wholeheartedly recommend Daryl to anyone seeking quality mason craftsmanship at its best. We look forward to working with Daryl on the other phases of this project. We had Daryl repair the top 6 courses of brick on our chimney. Mortar was turning to dust and bricks were about to fall out. Daryl was prompt with the estimate appointment and gave a fair assessment of the work in line with several other masons that I had contacted. We went with Daryl because of his professionalism, promptness, and fair price. He maintained good communication throughout the process, giving me updates of when the work would begin depending on weather. He arrived on time and completed the job ahead of the estimated time. The chimney looks great and we would recommend his work to anyone.

Daryl was alone the first day and did all the grinding and cleaning. He worked from early morning, a bit before 8:00 a.m. until around 3:30 p.m. He wanted to wait a day to come back for the bricks to dry. He returned by 8:00 a.m. the next day and brought Carl with him to do the mixing and then Daryl piped in the mortar and completed the repointing. There were a few bricks that also needed replaced and he cut them and replaced them when needed. I walked around and inspected everything and he repointed any place that I asked. I was very pleased with his work, his attitude (he is very laid back and quiet) and he was willing to put up with my dog wanting attention from him. He and Carl cleaned up and were done by 2:30 p.m. on the second day. I received five bids for the job because they were so far apart. I felt that I definitely picked the right person for the job and at a reasonable cost.
Description of Work: I needed my brick porch repointed. Daryl ground down the masonry and cleaned it the first day. On the second day he applied new mortar to the bricks, He was also willing to show me the proper way to do repointing, which I appreciated and requested up front when I received the bid.

Daryl was fantastic from start to finish. He gave us our plan, and as he built, we were able to change things and add to the project. He has a great eye for detail and spends his time working to make sure it is done correct and looks great. He was ontime everyday and worked late into the evenings. He dug out the footers and laid block and cement to code. Then he built up the entire wall and fireplace before facing it with stone. He was extremely attentive to detail when it came to the stone veneer, making sure every stone was placed perfectly. The job was done on time, very affordable and he added no extra costs. I would recommend his work to anyone!
Description of Work: Daryl Installed a large sitting wall / countertop combo with fireplace. We started with just wanting a sitting wall around an outdoor patio with a firepit. Daryl showed us some of the fireplaces he has built from block. (this is not a prefab fireplace, it is a custom Daryl Hunsberger Fireplace! Awesome!) We decided to go with a fireplace, sitting wall and then he added a larger privacy wall with a countertop/storage area underneath the countertop. He used block to build the foundation and core of the wall, then he faced it with Stonecraft Veener.

The job was done within our time constraints and within budget. He even made sure the slope was correct to direct water away from the house.
Description of Work: Daryl installed a paving stone patio and walkway. He prepared the base stone, sand leveler, set paving stones, installed retaining edge, and set stones with polymer sand. Also removed some old concrete and replaced walkway with cobblestone pavers.
