+ -1 moreWork performed great....However, it took approximately 10 minutes to complete since the repairman had the part with him because I told them what I suspected the problem to be. For this 10 minute job the labor cost was $89.00 plus a service fee of $6.54. I find this to be rather outrageous. Mathematically calculating ...that amounts to an hourly rate of $520.00

Description of Work: I called Gershey Appliance service to repair my stove.. The stove was making my pots black when I used the gas burners. The repairman came on the appointed day and time.. He spent 15 min in my home. He did a quick check of the stovetop by lifting the grates (only) He said that I needed new parts ( the burners).He got the serial number and asked me to pay him $90(which I did) and that I could pay for the parts when he returned to install them. He had to order them and that it should take about a week to get them.. I waited three weeks before I called him.. After playing phone tag with the answering machines we spoke a couple of days later. He said that he was unable to get the parts...and it didn't look like he would be able to get them at all. I said to him that I had given him $90 and I still had a broken stove...There was no real labor done on my stove by him.. He said that I actually owed him more..(almost $150 ) for the amt of time that he spent, on the phone, at home searching for my parts.. He said that my name is on a list in case the parts could be located.somewhere in the US.. No word, no repair, out $90. I will never call Gershey again.

+ -1 moreI purchased a house and a year after the dishwasher started to leak. I decided to have them look at my gas range at the same time, which had one burner which would take more than a minute to light. On the gas range he was able to determine that one of the four gas orifices had not been changed when they converted the gas range from natural gas to LP. He was able to replace that with one that now works. The dishwasher needed parts, so that could not be done on the service call, however they did call me back with the price of the part which was fairly expensive. They suggested I look at the cost of new similar quality dishwashers before I decide whether or not to repair this one. I followed their advice and decided not to go ahead with that repair. Overall I was happy to get the gas range repaired in the one visit, and avoid spending a lot on an expensive repair to a low end dishwasher.
