Horrible! All other reviewers must be Harry's friends and family, or spoon-fed, or my experience is going to be beginning of many more from others who will have similar contradictions between his work and the City code - as my experience with this rude and unprofessional gentlemen is simply horrible! Even after generously paying him $900 plus tips for a job where he invoiced only $850, even after paying him promptly on the spot on other three jobs with his outrageous prices that he claims to be due his licensed certified plumber status when he always do the job the right way - later when the water authority from Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County came - they found out to be ALL WRONG - Harry's work as per the water authority was ALL WRONG and not according to the City Code - water authority said being a licensed plumber Harry should have known better of how and where to install a water regulator in a water meter and to install a dual valve on the opposite side of the meter - as per the City of Greensburg code. He did the entire work WRONG and when discovered by the water authority he immediately tried to hide his error by telling he tried to save me some money by doing it not according to the city code! Now water authority wants me to correct his error, for additional expense. Despite being generously compensated for his work by paying him more than his invoice plus tips, he claimed I wanted to do it cheap!! After doing it the WRONG way in the eye of the City Code, he claimed he always do things right. Beware folks, simply beware! He may come and tell you million times that he is a licensed master plumber he always do the job the right way and then City may come to your door during inspection and point you out his errors as they did to me! Water authority could not believe his error, as it is in each and every drawing of the water authority that every licensed plumber should know! He is also vey rude in conversation and try to act like he knows what he is doing, when he certainly does not! He increases his work list when called, and add multiple items above what you wanted, and then scare you that if you don't do it then City will send fines, etc. and then do the work WRONG way for they City to notice! After using multiple plumbers over the years for my five properties inn Greensburg, I must say that I have never ever experienced a bad plumber like him. He also uses his friend to do work under the Table that is supposed to be done by a licensed plumber and then charges additional $50 per job to pay for his permit to the friend (according to his friend). Needless to say, stay away from him and his Best Plumbing Van - what an irony of name! It is a shame that despite being a licensed plumber to follow certain code of ethics these folks constantly violate that ethics and do things violating the code that they know should be done correctly! Our construction industry cannot prosper with people like him! Beware!

Our hot water heater seemed to be leaking a substantial amount of water which was discovered Thursday morning…Kind of an emergency. My Mother asked me, and quot;Well, who do we call?and quot; I responded, and quot;Well, we probably made one of the biggest mistakes of our lives by calling Mr. Rooter back on December 24, 2011. We paid Mr. Rooter $20,267 for an improper diagnosis, unnecessary sewer line restoration options, and shoddy site post-construction restoration. Also, if there are issues with Mr. Rooter’s work in the future, you can be 100% certain that we can expect them not honor their warranty as they cannot even be bothered to honor or complete the terms of their initial contracts. Furthermore, we even have evidence that proves Mr. Rooter breached their contract and communication that proves that they lied to us and refused to make it right. Besides, during that nightmare, Mr. Rooter quoted us $1400 for a new, basic gas hot water heater when I inquired in December of 2011 before we realized we were being “taken to the cleaners”…taken advantage of…ripped off…scammed. Mom, I am 110% certain that the quality of the materials Mr. Rooter uses is low and that their mark up is double to triple what an honest and reputable plumber is charging, who is still making a good living by the way. I continued, “Finding honest, upfront, and capable people to perform service work has become increasingly difficult…Comparable to finding a needle in a haystack; HOWEVER, I was impressed by the honesty, integrity, work ethic, and the field experience (A Licensed Master Plumber since 12/31/1930) of BEST PLUMBING HEATING and A/C’s owner, Harry Risko, back on June 3, 2013 (See 6/4/2013 Angie’s List Review) and that is who I think we should call.” We called BEST PLUMBING HEATING and A/C and left a message on their answering machine. Since Harry is the only one, along with his apprentice, who answers the service calls that come in, we were hoping that he would be available to evaluate and possibly address this urgent issue ASAP. Within approximately 1 1/2 hours, he returned my phone call and was on his way out to investigate the issue the same day. When Harry arrived, he investigated and confirmed that the hot water heater was definitely the source of the profuse leaking as suspected. Harry also inquired about the age of the water heater, which was unknown but estimated to be about 6-8 years old according to the former property owner’s declarations when the house was purchased in December of 2011. Harry decided to check the water pressure coming into the house, which was reading at 120psi - almost double what should be coming into the house and most likely the cause of the premature failure of the hot water heater. The water coming into the home and running through plumbing equipment and fixtures should be between 50 and 60 psi…any higher and one will find themselves with leaks and investing in repairs and/or replacement. All said and done, it was $699 for the purchase and installation costs of a best in the industry Rheem Professional Classic 40-gallon gas hot water heater AND $200 for the purchase and installation of a water intake pressure regulator for a total of $899. To top it off, he checked for gas leaks because he thought that something must be wrong to have a gas bill as high as the one we explained we recently received for a house our size and the fact that we only have a furnace, a range, and a hot water heater that use natural gas…nothing else. His investigation did not find any gas leaks; however, he recommended calling the gas company to complain about the high bill and to have them come out to investigate as a precaution. WE LOVE BEST PLUMBING HEATING and A/C because we have received the following: 1) prompt professional and courteous service 2) no charge estimates and recommendations 3) reasonable material and labor costs in relation to the scope of the job being evaluated 4) quality workmanship I love that BEST PLUMBING HEATING and A/C keeps costs fair and reasonable by purchasing the materials specific to the service issue at-hand at the time of service; thus, consumers are not stuck footing the bill for the following: a warehouse stocked with an unnecessarily large overhead; unnecessary flashy franchise advertising and franchise fees; and for a pair of new, unsupervised, inexperienced, unqualified, and unlicensed franchisee apprentice plumbing salesman to show up at your door to sell you products and services that may or may not solve the issue. BEST PLUMBING HEATING and A/C is who we will continue to call for all of our plumbing needs!

after contacting another plumber recommended by a friend, the other plumber failed to show up without calling me to explain that they needed to reschedule or to tell me when they could come to the house to repair a broker second floor water line. I was without water from Tuesday evening through Friday with no return phone calls. I checked Angies list and Best Plumbing had high ratings. I called them on Friday after noon and they were at my house by 9 AM Saturday. the hardest part of the job was locating the leak but they explained what they needed to do and what we could do to minimize further damage. they apologized for charging me for Saturday service call which was the least of my worries. I would recommend them to anyone in this area and will use them again if the need arises. they were professional, knowledgeable and respectful of my home.

In the end, they suggested calling the fire department and/or gas company to further check out the unknown odor. We did call the fire department first and we asked them not to make a big deal out of it and to come quietly. Ha! Gotta love these guys. They are so into their work. They sent 3 HUGE firetrucks down our little street. Lights flashing everywhere, but thank God they didn't use the sirens. There were at least 8 firemen in my house who did a thorough check from top to bottom. Everyone could smell the terrible odor and everyone had their opinion, but none of their equipment was registering anything dangerous. They then told us that we should call the gas company just to make sure. We did. One of the men waited until the gas company came. The gas company checked everything out and all was well. The bottom line and the conclusion seems to be that the odor is coming from a decaying dead animal under our steps, but no one is certain. The odor burns your eyes, causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness and asthma problems. The other interesting fact is that there should be no way an animal can get under our steps since they are surrounded by concrete block and a solid wall with NO openings. Our next step is to open up the wall that is not concrete block (there is only one) to see if we can find out what is under those steps. For now, we are keeping our basement door closed and blocking off the bottom of the door so the smell can't get through. We open the garage door and windows every day to vent the smell until we can get around to ruining our beautiful finished basement wall to see what in the world is happening under our steps. Kind of creepy. I guess the moral of the story is to check for dead animals first???? Of course, you might risk being blown up by something that turns out to be other than a possible dead animal. We did our job. . . before we called anyone, we checked and rehydrated every drain in the house, climbed up on the roof to check the roof vent, to make sure it wasn't frozen and was clear, poured water down the roof vent, when that didn't work, called the plumber. When that didn't work, called the fire department who in turn called the gas company, who didn't find anything either outside of the horrible odor. A big thank you to all who helped in this mysterious odor case!
Description of Work: We had what smelled like a sewage leak or methane gas in our stairwell. They brought equipment and tested every possibility. They were here for over an hour. There were some unknown readings on our steps and they could smell the odor, but determined that nothing that was dangerous or life threatening.

They were pretty good. They came out quickly. The fact that I didn't like about them was that they didn't come out prepared. So, they ended up having to go to the hardware store to get some parts that were known to have needed for the job.

It went very well. We thought we just had a faucet problem, but it turned out we had 200 lbs. of water pressure coming into the house instead of the standard 50 lbs. We were shocked and very glad the real problem of the shuddering noise in the faucet was finally diagnosed. He had to run to the hardware store and buy the proper and quot;regulatorand quot; to get it replaced. He also happened to carry a gas meter with him that detected a gas leak in a pipe in the laundry room we had previously had no clue about. Fortunately, he just had to tighten a nut to take care of that after investigating the cause. He was prompt, thorough, and accurately found the real source of our problems. Definitely would call them again.

Best Plumbing really is the best! This duo was prompt, professional and courteous. When they arrived, we briefly discussed where the new spigot could be installed. Then, they gathered their materials and immediately began work. While checking for gas leaks before using the torch to seal the joints in the new copper pipes, a gas leak was detected at the valve. Luckily, tightening is all that was necessary. (I knew I was smelling gas, but I couldn't figure out where the smell was coming from. Good thing the source of the smell that has been tormenting me on and off since December 2011 has been found and taken care of! In addition to ensuring our safety, I am relatively certain that this fix will lower our gas bill. In using our spigot, we are satisfied with its location and its function. If you need any of the services that Best Plumbing Heating and A/C provides, I am confident that you won't be disappointed if you choose this local company. I know that we were far from disappointed with our choice to use Best Plumbing Heating and A/C and Best Plumbing Heating and A/C is the business we will call if we are in need of any of the services they provide. Thank you, again Best Plumbing!

I had a terrble leak under my kitchen sink from the plastic pipe under the floor to my basement apartment. It had cracked. The shut-off valve in the apartment ceiling was also leaking. Harry had to remove the plastic line. He replaced the entire connection with copper and put a new shut-off valve in. The job was difficult because of access to the pipes and the way the previous plumber had installed the lines when the kitchen was put in. Harry did a fine job. He was punctual. He was professional. I had no problems with his work.

They did alright. They will do the job. It is a reasonable cost. The problem is when I asked him to do certain things. He did not do them exactly the way I felt he should do them. I'm a handyman myself and I know a little bit about what is going on. I couldn't get it done quick enough and I have a back problem. I will not call him again. They will fix the problem. Whether it is fixed the way you want it is another question. When they put the faucet on the bath tub it wasn't square against the tub. He told me to put caulk around it. They left and it was up to me to fix it. So I fixed it. He came back another time shortly after that because of a leak. I called him and told him about the leak. He said to me, he looked at the bath tub and said oh you did a pretty good job on that. If I can do a better job than he can then I should be doing the plumbing. The other thing is he probably saved our lives/ While he was fixing the leak he discovered a gas leak. Even though I say these things, nobody is all bad.

I have used this local contractor three times. Each time Harry was punctual and professional. When Harry found additional issues with my plumbing, he immediately communicated with me about the issues so that we could agree on a remedy. He did a great job. I'll continue to use Harry and Best Plumbing for all my small jobs.
Description of Work: Best Plumbing replaced my bathroom sink and faucet. They also cleaned and serviced my air conditioner. A third service call required a new drain line to be cut and replaced in the basement.
