I found Chris on Angie's list and called him to get a price quote for some work after another chimney company proved to be unresponsive to our phone calls. Chris called me back right away and met with my husband at the house. He provided us with an estimate and photos of the chimney damage on our first meeting. He followed up with us to see if we had any questions and completed the work right away. Chris and his staff were professional. I highly recommend them.

McNamara Masonry Restoration was great to work with. I called on a Sunday afternoon expecting to leave a message and was pleasantly surprised when Chris answered. Chris came to my house that day to inspect the chimney. He took the time to explain the problem and his recommended solution. He provided me with photos of the deficiencies and a copy of the estimate before he left. Chris's team was able to perform the work on the following Tuesday. I came home from work to find the work area clean with all work completed. Working with McNamara Masonry Restoration was a very pleasant experience. I would highly recommend them.

I had a leak in the second floor bedroom - outside wall near the chimney. The chimney had been repointed, sealed, and a liner had been installed - still had the leak. Chris came out (on a Saturday!) for an estimate. He took pictures and showed us where he thought the problem was. The first group had just slapped more cement over the cracks for repointing rather than cleaning out the joints - it was already cracking again. The chimney cap and tile flue were also full of cracks - it's a wonder we didn't have a waterfall inside. Chris offered a 10% discount if we gave him a decision right away because he could move his scaffolding over from a job finishing nearby. We accepted and the scaffolding was up by Monday afternoon. The job was done quickly and looks great. Now we just wait and see if that solved the leak. I would definitely recommend Chris and will certainly call him in again if the leak continues.

The initial contact and obtaining an estimate was very smooth. I took detailed photos of the problem area and Chris provided an estimate from those. I had never worked with a contractor who did not come out for a personal look before, but it worked. The removal and cleaning phase was done on a Friday. He volunteered his brother and a helper to come out Sunday due to their workload. The work was finished Sunday. The people were thoroutgly professional from setup to cleanup. I was particularly impressed by their well-drilled saftety procedures as they hoisted and lowered material between high roof, low roof, and ground. I had never seen that degree of explicit coordination between construction workers on home jobs before. The work itself is better-designed than the original. The original lasted only one century; this job should last longer. The price was not the lowest available, hence the "B" on price, but I got good value for the money and would not consider anyone else for future masonry or chimney needs.

The chimney was in very bad condition. The crown and band were falling off and water was leaking into the chimney. I had some patch work done a few years ago but the chimney need to be rebulit and waterproofed to avoid even greater damage. When I called Chris he was working on a job in my area and he came out the same day to look over my chimney and take some pictures of the current condition. After we discussed what I wanted done he gave me a written estimate and said he could begin the work as soon as he was finished the job he was still working on. His team showed up on time, worked very hard, cleaned up every day, and when finished left the area in perfect condition. Chris came out to look over the completed work and walk me through everything that had been done. The quality of the work was first rate and I've had several people ask me who did the work on my chmney. I would highly recommend Chris and McNamara Masonry Restoration.

I found Chris' name on Angie's list. I called Chris' number and he answered right away. He told me that he was doing work in my area and that he would inspect my chimney, etc., and would leave a proposal within 1 - 2 days. He left the proposal immediately the next day! The prosal was professionally printed on his company's letterhead and it detailed the work he would be doing. His proposal included a written, 5-year warranty! The price he quoted seems in line with the work that I wanted him to do. I had called a few other leads I had gotten, but I decided to hire Chris. I am very pleased that I did! Chris followed through on everything he told me. He told me that his brother Kevin would be doing the work. We set up a time for Monday morning and Kevin arrived about 10 minutes ahead of schedule! Kevin and his crewman Trevor were great. I asked Kevin if he would also re-point some other brick areas around the outside of my house while he was here. He cheerfully walked around with me and did as I asked. They worked efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. Kevin was very knowledgeable about his work. He answered all of my questions and even demonstrated some of his explanations for me to understand better. I was very impressed. He was pleasant, couteous and accommodating. I saw that they were carefully doing a professional quality job, paid attention to details, and wanted me to be satisfied with the outcome. I am very pleased with their work. I am also very impressed, too, that they warrant their work for 5 years! I saw on Angie's List that they have been in business for a number of years, so I know they stand behind their warranty and the quality of their work. I now know first-hand why they have such a good track record on Angie's List: They want to give their customers a quality job and to be pleased with the results. I am very happy that I hired them!
Description of Work: They repointed missing and deteriorated chimney and house brick pointing and put a waterproof coating on the chimney. They also patched up some several minor missing pointing around the outside of the house and packed and caulked the 1.5" space between my concrete patio and the side where it meets the house.

I called Chris on his cell to set up an appointment to check the chimney and the top of the chimney, since water was leaking into the fireplace. He responded quickly to my voicemail, set up an appointment to go up on the ladder to check things out . He arrived on time, took pictures, explained what needed to be done to resolve the problem and gave us the estimate the same day. We called him to set up a time when he and his crew could do the work. He responded in a timely fashion and the work was completed within 3 days maximum. My husband checked out the completed work and said that Chris did a quality job and was very knowledgable.

I could not have asked for a more responsive and professional service. I called Chris and he answered his phone immediately. He came out that afternoon to look at our chimney and gave me an estimate right then and there, including photographs of what the chimney looked like up at the top so I could see what he was talking about in regard to work that needed to be done. He gave me serveral options of the scope of work and explained each. He had another job he was finishing in our area, and gave me a discount if we could start that week. He and his crew were excellent. They were friendly and polite, worked hard, cleaned up each day- and really did not make much of a mess to begin with. They checked in with me about whether I wanted them to save a trellis that needed to be removed from the chimney so they could work, instead of just trashing it. The chimney looks great! We would definitely use Chris and his company again!

Cris is a true professional from beginning to end. He does everything right from the estimate to cleanup. He provides photos from before and after. This is crucial since I am not going up on the roof for a closer look. His masonry work is superb to the point that I am sure his repairs will be there a hundred years from now. I expect that when the cement dries, the cement will be perfectly matched to the rest of the house, and you won't be able to tell a repair was made. If masonry restoration is needed for Independence Hall, Chris and his crew are the people for the job.

From the estimate visit to the completion of the job, everything went smoothly. Chris gave me a written estimate (with photo showing the extent of the work he planned to do) during his first visit. His estimate seemed quite reasonable - consistent with the cost of recent masonry work I'd had done on our chimney. After I called to confirm that I'd like to move ahead with the work, he scheduled the work for the next week. He and his colleague arrived when they said they would and performed the work efficiently and with apparent expertise. Chris was able to match perfectly the original style in which the mortar was applied and matched the color of the mortar as well. I forgot to worry about the style until after I'd seen what a great job he'd done matching the repair work with the original. I was reminded that over 10 years ago, I'd hired a masonry contractor who'd done a poor job matching the style and color of the original masonry work. Chris did an excellent job.

It went very smoothly. My son noticed that some of the bricks in the chimney at attic level were crumbling. Chris found that the chimney had never been lined and that there was a leak in the roof by the chimney. He strongly recommended having the chimney lined, either with aluminum or with stainless steel. I chose the stainless steel, which is slightly more expensive but comes with a lifetime guarantee. Price quoted was $7800 check or credit card, but when I expressed my preference for credit card so I could collect the rebate, Chris offered to knock $400 off if I paid by check, and I accepted this offer. He asked for 50% at the beginning of the job and 50% at the end, which is how I paid. Job took about 3 days, some done by him and some by employees of his. My only complaint, if it is that, is that I was not offered the cash discount up front; I had to luck into it. This might be in part because I did not speak to him directly; my son was acting as go-between.

Chris came out right away and inspected chimney. Took photos and explained that our chimney was pulling away from the house. old house built in 1929 and chimney was not tied in correctly. A permanent repair would require a new chimney which we could not afford. Chris said a temporary repair would keep the weather and bugs from infiltrating the gap. We chose this route and Chris and his son came out on a Sunday, only two days later,to make the repair. Chris told us to keep a close eye on the chimney and call him if any problems occurred. Chris was punctual, professional and efficient, not to mention courteous throughout the process. We could have gotten more estimates but chose Chris because we trusted his judgment and ability to get the job done promptly and professionally. We were not disappointed.

Chris and his crew were extremely professional, prompt, provided excellent communication and worked clean. He showed up to do the job when he said he would and he stuck to his quoted price even though the removal of the aluminum liner in my 90 year old chimney proved to be quite challenging and time consuming. He replaced it with a stainless steel liner which is considerably more durable. He was able in this case to provide us with a quote based on photographs which was super convenient since getting this job done was urgent so we could safely get the hot water back on. I believe he provided an excellent value considering his professionalism and the difficulty / urgency of the job.
Description of Work: - remove any debris from the interior of the flue - install a Zflex stainless steel liner connecting to the heater and hot water heater in the basement -plaster around the base - install a new stainless steel cap on the top of the chimney All job related debris will be removed from the property

Chris was prompt in providing an estimate and I liked the fact that his estimate was very detailed and had pictures. This enabled us to quickly compare estimates and ensure we were thoroughly covered. Chris' estimate was more thorough, and slightly more expansive, but he was willing to work with us on price. We scheduled for 2 weeks later. The work was done across two days, the chimney liner and associated work done by two of his crew members on the first day. They were prompt (arriving at 9am), courteous and professional. They laid down tarp, were careful not to create a mess, and cleaned up after themselves. One of the workers identified an extra chimney pipe that came from our water heater when it used to be vented to the chimney. He offered to remove it for us while they were here. They finished by about lunchtime. The second day of work was done on a weekend, with Chris himself coming to help with the work. They did an excellent job with the pointing and finishing work and I am very pleased with the quality. The chimney in the basement is being left exposed when we finish our basement, which is why it was important to re-point there as well. I am very happy with the work of Chris and his team and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Brick Restoration of existing chimney - above roofline as well as at the base of the chimney in the basement. Cut out joints, clean brick work, reset loose bricks, re-point all joints. PGW replaced gas meter but were unable to turn hot water heater or furnace back on because of unsafe condition caused by chimney crumbling into basement. I called Chris McNamara, and he returned my call within 5 minutes. Based on a photo of basement wall and measurements of connections, he was able to give me an estimate for cleaning out chimney, replacing liner, and fixing crumbling concrete of basement wall. He contacted me immediately to set up an appointment. He arrived on time, even texting me on the morning of the appointment to let me know exactly when he'd be there. The work was done quickly, and Chris text me a picture of the roof. He also let me know that no masonry work was needed on chimney. Chris and his crew were very professional and friendly. I have only good things to say about the entire experience.

I had several Chimney and Masonry professionals come to give me estimates. Of all the people that came, and each had a different solution to our problem ranging anywhere from removing the chimney to just re-pointing the bricks. Chris was the only one that made me feel confident that he knew what he was talking about. He immediately went down to my boiler to see how the exhaust was getting through the chimney and out of the house, only to find it was extremely dangerous and needed a liner in addition to the Masonry work on the chimney itself. I honestly believe he saved me and my family from a potential carbon monoxide issue. He came and installed the liner immediately once he saw the issue. He showed just as much concern for our well being as I had for my own family. Within a week from the estimate he restored my chimney and maintained the historical feel of my house that was built in 1907. He was professional and cleaned up after he and his crew did the work. I would highly recommend Chris for jobs in my future.

Chris came out to give us an estimate. He was on time and polite. He took pictures of the problem areas and thoroughly explained what needed to be done. We received a detailed estimate. Once we contracted with him, he went over the estimate and how much time it would take. The job was completed as soon as weather permitted. Through out the experience he was up front and communication was good. We would hire him again and recommend him to others.

(Members names removed), it was our pleasure working for you. I hope everything is working out with the new patio you were discussing. Good luck with your new home. Chris McN.
I was not able to meet Chris at the time of his visit to provide an estimate. However, when I reviewed the document showing the proposal, I was quite impressed. Though his price was in the middle of the range (based on 4 estimates), I thought he would be very thorough with his work based on my impression about his proposal, and found him to be quite genuine when I finally spoke with him on the phone. When we decided to hire his company, Chris was accommodating and willing to initiate the project immediately. As he began working on the chimney (with Mike, who was quite considerate and conscientious), he discovered that our chimney did not have a flue liner from the furnace to the chimney (an old house from 1950s). He contacted me immediately, and gave me several options, including 1) install flue liner by him ($1700; included in $4000 listed above); 2) install at another time and 3) wait until we change the furnace. He provided advantages and disadvantages for each option. When I could not decided immediately (and wanted to consult my father-in-law), Chris was understanding and asked that I take time until the next day. When we decided to get it installed, he was able to bring the necessary parts and workers next day. Overall, Chris and Mike completed the work, and restored our chimney beautifully. I would again hire them in the future to do some masonry work on our brick walls.
Description of Work: Full chimney restoration (12x12 chimney; scaffolding; clean joints and repoint entire chimney of 12ft high- extending from top of first floor to top of second floor; installation of two new stainless flue caps; new cement crown); installed flue liner from furnace to chimney;

We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Chris was responsive and professional. He gave us his estimate but also followed up with a telephone call to discuss details of the proposal, including a strong recommendation to have it repaired regardless of who does it. Once we agreed on a contract, the job was done quickly and completely, and we got updated photos to show the improvement. It was also great that he was willing to do the work at our home without requiring someone to be home, making it easier to get the project completed quickly without having to miss a day of work!
Description of Work: We discovered that the concrete surrounding our chimney liner was disintegrating and there was a crack in the stucco exterior of the chimney. Chris gave us a free estimate, including photographs of the damage, and performed the work at our request.

As a contractor, I am very critical and conscientious of the product we provide to all of our customers. I'm not sure if you remember our initial conversation, but you contacted me in reference to the condition of your chimney and that it may be contributing to a leak. The very next day I was on your property and inspecting your chimney. At the time, I noticed and mentioned to you in the proposal (and confirmed with pictures taken and given to you) that the chimney was in poor condition and that the previous patch jobs (plural) were failing. When correcting a chimney leak, there is protocal we follow to ensure that the leak is solved and the chimney will remain leak-free for years to come. With that being said, I gave you a proposal to thoroughly and properly restore the stucco. If you were to solicit bids from other reputable chimney contractors with a comparable record to mine, you'll find that my price would be competitive to theirs. As you can read any of the 30plus reports from other Members that actually hired us, they all had positive comments about what we provided to them. It's a shame you didn't call me before you submitted this disparaging report. There's only been a few occasions where I couldn't meet an amicable resolution to a price/quote or the scope of the job. If it's another patch job you were looking for, that's not something we could provide to you. My response to you isn't meant to be mean spirited in any way and I truly do feel if you gave me another chance we could work something out. Thank you for your time. Chris McNamara

It was very evident to me that Chris was someone who takes much pride in his work. He was honest in telling me that the installation of the flashing around the chimney was done well by the roof installers but that he would not do it the same way. He reported that he found no movement in the chimney and gave me a quote for the repair of the flashing where there was apparent leaking. I was surprised that he did not go up in the attic to confirm that there was actually an active leak as the other companies I called did. His estimate for the repair seemed high but I think it was much more intricate than the other estimates I received. Seems like he would do a very good job on old houses with very serious leaks. I don't think this is the case with ours. Our house is not that old. I passed his quote along to the new owners of the house.
Description of Work: Chris McNamara came out at my request to check out an inspection punchlist which contained chimney items prior to the sale of our home. I had only asked that he verify the items on the punchlist and give me an estimate of any repairs needed. The prior inspector said there were leaks around the chimney in the attic plus there was movement in the chimney. He arrived on time, was very friendly, and very honest.
