Paul considered what we wanted and how we wanted it done. He made suggestions where he did not think we were considering everything. So far, all seems good. They were professional. All nicely cleaned up afterwards.

. Thank You for your kind words. We suggested and installed Certainteed brand materials both roofing and synthethic trim boards to satisfy the customers needs for a durable ,longlasting roof and waterproof facia. board as the existing wood facia was prone to rot. We worked with the customer to install a custom roof access hatch as well .

My guess is that the job specifications and Statement of Work I gave Scullin was beyond their expertise. More on this in a moment. This was something he could have told me at the beginning, but instead just strung me along until.... well, nothing. I suspect the main difficulty was that Scullin did not have the experience of estimating costs for a somewhat complex job nor putting together a bid that was responsive to both the specifications and the Statement of Work I submitted. My judgment upon meeting the man was he is likely to be very capable within his advertised set of services, but my job was a bit more than that. So, yes, I would solicit a bid from Scullin again, but it be well within what they advertise.
Description of Work: This contractor never submitted a bid despite my efforts to obtain one from him. He would always claim he was "working" on it, but in the end nothing was forthcoming.

Scullin Construction is a local company. They were professional. They were the most expensive but that was because they did everything by hand. Had I not gone with the other company, I probably went with him. Their price was $1,000 more than the price of the company that I went with but I thought that they were very good. They also came on time.

Repair looked good. Several months later a few shingles in or near (I am not sure if it was in or just adjacent to) the repair area were gone, leaving a small section of plywood exposed. Called Mr. Scullin and he scoped it out and quoted a price of $275. I indicated that I thought the price was high, given that in my opinion it could have occurred based on his repairs a few months before. He explained that he would have to buy a whole new bundle of shingles, etc., and that it was a more than fair price. I disagreed.
Description of Work: Roof repairs. Replaced plywood section and installed new shingles and minor repairs.

We try very hard to satisfy our customer base of over 27 years. This event was a result of Hurricane Sandy a significant detail (member name removed) fails to note. (member name removed) roof is older,we did not install this roof, , and needed repairs , this is common and good maintance for a home,The roof is probably in the last quarter of its life and we did talk about an estimate to replace this roof as the thinking was this may be the right time.A new roof is fully warranted and guaranteed. We did repair work instead , and he was satisfied, After Hurricane Sandy , a major event of historical proportions.which devestated the houses in areas in and around (member name removed) property., he lost one piece of one shingle of an older roof. which we did not install and (member name removed) states he is not sure if this is the same area we repaired . We were very busy doing emergency repairs doing this time as we believe a responsible contractor would be..We did respond promptly to (member name removed) call and offered a quote.at a reasonable cost.and a timely repair. We had zero calls for leaks, during this Hurricane, at complete new roofs which we have installed in the last 27 yrs of business. We offer a complete warranty for new roofs including all workmanship and material, this can be upwards of lifetime for material and fifteen years to twenty years for the workmanship, these are outstanding warranties and we will match any competitors as we feel our quality is outstanding. We will install a new roof or siding, which will protect your property from Hurricanes, Snows , Nor'Easters, and ice. however, if one piece of one shingle blows of a older roof ... which we did not install...during a major hurricane...in an area we did not repair.... and we offer to make a repair ... and homeowner is dissatisfied... that is beyond reasonable expectations and accepted roofing and business practices .

Paul Scullin came and gave us an estimate. We thought that the estimate was high - a lot of money for two small repairs but, since Scullin had done our roofs in the past, and we were eager to get the repairs done, we went with him. Several workers came and did the two repairs. Some of the workers stood around and smoked and drank coffee while the other two worked. They were here for a very short time (about 20 minutes) - contributing to our belief that we were being overcharged. We assumed the work was done as expected and paid the invoice. A couple of weeks later I climbed out on the roof and saw that the workmanship was terrible. While the worker ran a bead of caulk along our roof line, he rarely hit the roof line. Most of the caulk was off the roof line, leaving open seals for most of the length of the roof. I was upset about this since we'd paid so much for the repair. I called Paul Scullin who got back to me right away. He told me he'd send his worker over the next work day to re-do the seal. I asked Paul if he wanted to inspect the job himself since it was so poorly done as I figured he'd want to know that his worker had not done the job as contracted. He said he didn't need to inspect the work . He said, if I thought it was a poor job, then, he would send someone over to re-do it. His worker came the next day and redid the job - this time overcaulking the seam. He did a thorough job this time - even though he used beige caulk on a white seam. Luckily you can't see the caulk from the ground so that isn't a big deal. At least the job was finally complete. However, had I not climbed out on the roof to inspect it myself, we would have continued to have leaks in the future and not understood why. I was glad that I did not have to fight to get the job redone but it should have been done right in the first place.
Description of Work: We used Scullin Roofing to make two minor repairs to our roofs. The repairs were minor but needed to be done to prevent water damage in the future.

We work very hard to get the jobs done right with a fair cost. . We sent more men to this job then needed as they would be going next go to a larger job which needed more manpower. The job was priced on difficulty as well as cost of vehicle, insurance, equipment, as well as time estimator spent reviewing job and providing a detailed written estimate. A potion of job required a larger ladder with a man working on a overhang. We think this was a fair cost for a fully insured ,licensed and responsible contractor. We have been in business over 27 yrs We did respond promptly to Members complaint and recaulked with a masonry caulk.in a correct manner. We assumed she was satisfied after this.,If we were made aware of an issue with color of caulk we would certainly change this .Were very sorry there was any compaint about quality or questions about cost.We work very hard to satisfy our customers with clear estimates and always make any adjustments to jobs, a priority. Our goal is satisfied customers

Paul Scullin came to do the estimate. He was very knowledgeable and open, and discussed alternatives' plusses and minuses. Work was completed, job done well. Workers left a bit of debris on back steps -- nails and pieces of shingle. That was only issue. Paul followed up and took note of complaint with concern. It was very minor. I would certainly use Paul Scullin's services in the future.

Paul responded to my original call the same evening. He arrived on time to give us an estimate. Happy to hear we didn't need a new roof. He arrived on time the day he scheduled to make the repair. He did a good job, no mess, arrived on time and completed the work as detailed in the estimate. We would use him again.

We inspected roof and provided an estimate for a complete roof replacement, following the homeowners request. We now believe homeowner was interested in partial repair ,and we did not communicate on this point. We are fully insured , employ qualified workers and install material in a highly professional manner.

My front porch posts were in bad condition and in need of replacement. I called Paul Scullin to give me an estimate, because I had used their roofing and siding services in the past and was very pleased. Paul Scullin responded promptly to my request for an estimate and then scheduled a visit that was convenient for both of us. During the inspection of the work to be done, he provided various ideas of materials that could be used to complete the work and promised to get back to me within a few days. The estimate arrived later in the week via e-mail and was very detailed. Although it was more costly than I had anticipated, I knew Scullin was a good craftsman and it would be worth the expense. I committed to the work and Mr. Scullin provided an approx. date for work completion. He also dropped off information and options for the types of posts he would be installing. As Mr. Scullin promised, the work was completed within the 5 week-window he had provided. He and his men arrived promptly on the day he had scheduled. The work was nicely executed, and the job site was free from any signs of debris from the posts replacement. I am very pleased with the appearance of my new weather-resistant weight-bearing front porch posts.

Mr. Scullin and his crew were prompt, unfailing courteous, and did a beautiful job on our roof. They cleaned up each evening and during the final clean-up picked up every piece of debris, swept the yard for nails and cleaned up under the bushes. The yard was spotless when the job was finished. The roof looks great and we are quite pleased with their service. Mr. Scullin's quote for the job was quite reasonable. He used Certainteed shingles. He used quality materials throughout. We would definitely recommend Scullin Construction.
