I had used O'Donnell for an emergency repair some years ago and was well satisfied. This time, the plumber came within 2 hours for a repair that was not an emergency, surveyed the situation and gave estimates for this work and a less necessary job that I was considering. I decided to go with the shower repair which was performed promptly and restored the operation completely. The second job, I felt was over priced and declined to pursue it. The work was very well done. The price was I believe at the upper end of typical. The cost for a house call $79 was not waived.

They were great. They showed me pictures of what was wrong so I didn't have to take their word for it. The pricing for the tuneup was okay but the estimate for a replacement they were high. They were good. I would use them again for a tuneup. They were professional, they were courteous and they were knowledgeable. As for replacement costs they were higher but for checking and maintenance they are great.

Terrible. Complete ripoff. They quoted me $849 to installed a valve and shutoff in an existing line for a washer to be hooked up. Also, charged $49 just to come out for a quote. I called Winters Plumbing and they come out the next day and did the work in 1 hour for $150. Don't trust them. Their prices are outrageous.

We are quite surprised by this negative review...since we advised you that there is a $49.00 service charge to come to your home for an estimate and if you move forward with the work, we credit the $49.00. If you were unhappy about that, you had an opportunity to let us know when we called you to follow up on our service visit to your home yesterday. We have serviced this area for over 83 years and pride ourselves on honesty, integrity and our workmanship.

My husband and I moved to PA a year ago and we have used O'Donnell for our furnace maintenance and inspections because they were the ones who installed the furnace 4 years ago. We noticed that our second floor was never warm enough, even when we turned the thermostat up to 75º. They recommended an audit, which we did, but the results weren't very satisfactory. I called and asked to speak to a technician because I wanted to find out information about the unit itself - such as the capacity, efficiency of the particular model, and talk about the size of the ducts. Jill, the person who always answers the phone, would not let me speak to anyone. She was only willing to send someone to my house. I placed a couple of calls, trying to speak to a technician or the owner, and I was rebuffed each time. I got more frustrated with each call. Finally, a few weeks ago I decided to seek another opinion so I called PECO and had another audit done. The results were very different than what we got from O'Donnell but I still had questions about the unit itself. A contractor that is associated with PECO called me and asked me some questions about my situation. I told him, like I had told O'Donnell, that I was trying to find out if the uneven heat distribution was a result of the furnace not being up to the task or if it was other aspects of the house. He told me that I could do a simple "tissue" test that would give a pretty good indication if it had to do with the unit. He said the "tissue" test would show whether or not there was "return side air restriction" in the furnace. This afternoon I called O'Donnell. I told Jill that PECO had done an audit and that this test had been recommended to me by one of their contractors. I wanted to know if the test was a reasonable approach and if O'Donnell might possibly perform the test for me if it sounded at all logical. Once again Jill offered to send someone to our house. I told her that might be fine but that I would like to talk to someone first because the test could very well be unnecessary. It was my feeling that an expert, especially the people who had installed the unit, would know exactly what to expect from this test, or if not, then they would come and do the test for me. I asked once again to talk to Mr. O'Donnell or a manager. She said John, a technician, had just driven up, she would talk to him and that either he or she would call me back. I received a callback within 15 minutes and boy was I surprised!! Jill told me that she had talked to John, the technician, and they had decided that since I had no faith or trust in them, they felt it was time that I just move on and take my business elsewhere! I was floored. She accused me of calling someone else and "going back and forth," which I had not done. I only called PECO to get a second opinion on the audit and the contractor had called me, not the other way around. I probably never would have even called PECO if someone would have just talked to me when I called repeatedly to talk to a technician! Besides, would I be a good consumer if I *didn't* get a second opinion?! The two audits came up with very different conclusions. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I look for mutual respect when I choose service providers. Today I lost all respect for O'Donnell Heating & Plumbing. I was being honest and straightforward with them and they in turn treated me like an unwanted stray dog. I learn from my mistakes and I will not be calling them again.

I called another place for an estimate and he laughed at the prices O'Donnell was charging! Their estimates were about $400 cheaper for all parts and labor! I will NEVER call them again!
Description of Work: I called O'Donnell for a leaking toilet. They were friendly & prompt as usual. We have used them before to replace our entire heating and air conditioning system. The technician, Ray, came out and was friendly & seemed knowledgeable. He looked at our toilet and right away knew it needed to be replaced (which I assumed would be the case since it is the original toilet in the house). He told me that the estimate would be around $800 plus some other costs that I really didn't understand. He said that he had never seen anything like my toilet. He went outside to write-up an estimate and came back with a couple options: 1) $805.68(comfort height toilet) plus $162.27 (for install of a new point of service stop?) = $967.95; 2) $747.19 (standard size toilet) + $167.27 = $914.46. If I supplied my own toilet - it would cost $481.48 plus $167.27 = $648.75 - but I would not get a warranty with this. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????? This is robbery!

We have tried to reach this customer by telephone call to resolve, since we are upset by the remarks made and shared via social media. Our employee was polite and provided an estimate for what the replacement costs would be. Since we had a relationship, I would have hoped that a telephone call was made to our office to resolve this matter.

Company responded promptly to estimate request through Angie's list and we made an appointment. Technician showed up on time and was friendly. Request was for replacement of a Polaris/American HE water heater that powers DHW and two radiant floor loops. I had done my research on availability and pricing of same model unit before getting estimates. Technician commented that he was not familiar with this type of system upon seeing it. Took a camera phone pic and said he'd have an estimate for me in 20 minutes. Came back from his truck and we sat on the porch to review the estimate. Estimate was a single number ($5942.85) even though I'd asked for itemization of parts and labor. I asked if the price was negotiable based on my knowledge that this unit sells to the public at $2400 even though original list price was double that. Technician said at best they'd be able to take a couple hundred off. I explained that I understand companies have overhead and need to make money on parts and asked if labor on this job was really almost $3K. Existing install was nicely done with shut-off valves and union fittings at every supply and return point. Ultimately we couldn't agree on a price. My number was $3500, but it seemed clear we were too far apart. I ended up ordering a heater for $2400 and installing myself. Install took 3 hours and there were not difficulties or complications. I know many companies hate DIY people, but I was willing to pay almost $1K over what I could do it myself for, not $3K. Despite that we were unable to reach a deal, O'Donnell's service was prompt and professional.

O'Donnell's arrived the next day with my new heating/air conditioning unit and compressor. The installers were Gary and Robert, and they were both extremely professional and competent. Gary has been taking care of my heating, air conditioning, and plumbing for almost a year, and I've been very happy dealing with him. The new unit was installed on Tuesday, July 1st. On Thursday evening, July 3rd, the air conditioning stopped working. It was already after hours, but Ray (another field service technician with the company) returned my call within 40 minutes, and was out at my house within the hour of my initial call to O'Donnell's. He went over every inch of the unit and compressor. By the time he got to the compressor, it was already dark outside. Yet he kept doing his inspection by flashlight until he found the problem (and was very gracious and responsive as I stood and watched him and asked him all sorts of questions about how the unit worked). The sensor in the compressor was defective. It would work for a few hours and then shut off. If it had not been the eve of the three day July 4th weekend, I would have had the new part the next day. However, because of the holiday weekend the warehouse was closed, so Ray couldn't get the replacement part until Monday (even though he did try to see if he could find one over the weekend). He told me that if necessary he would come out every couple of hours during the three day weekend to keep my air conditioning going. Luckily, the entire three day weekend was very comfortable and not at all hot, so I didn't need the air conditioning. However, Ray called over the weekend to see how I was doing, and would definitely have come over had I needed him. Ray went to pick up the replacement part first thing Monday morning, and by noon he was at my house installing it. He then again thoroughly checked out the entire unit to make sure everything was working properly. He also came again on Friday for another thorough checkup of the unit. My air conditioning is now working fine. O'Donnell's service and field service technicians are excellent, and I plan to continue to do business with them. I know that they pride themselves on their service, and they have a great deal to be proud of.
Description of Work: My heating/air conditioning unit was leaking, and the pipes were beginning to show corrosion. There was a giant rust stain on the floor underneath the unit. When O'Donnell's had arrived to do the annual air conditioning inspection, the air conditioning had not been working for about two days. I needed a whole new heat pump/air conditioning unit.

they showed up at the exact time they said they would be there. took a look at the job and said it would cost $444.00. I figured it must have been a much more serious repair than i thought, no details were shared with me. I agreed, reluctantly, and said yes. he started the repair and was done in just under 15 minutes. The paperwork took longer than the repair, and for 15 minutes of work, I was charged $444.00. Really feel like I was taken advantange of. I am not debating the quality of the work, just the rate. Wish I could work for $444 for 15 minutes. Will never use them again, they took advantage of me and I will tell my neighbors to avoid them at all cost.

Our toilet broke, and we called O'Donnell to fix it. We had used them once before and thought they did a good job on a more complicated problem even though they were expensive. In this case, they indicated the price would be $180, but then after the work was completed increased their charge to $250 (claiming the labor and parts were not covered by the original quote). This was to replace a toilet mechanism. If we hadn't been so busy, we probably could have replaced it ourself. It took them approx 20 minutes to complete the work once they picked up an inexpensive part. This was bogus -- we will not work with them again.

We apologize for any lack of communication on our part. Our technicians came out within one hour of your initial call, which was in November and we always tell the customer exactly what the pricing will be before we start any repair. So Again we apologize for any lack of communication on our part concerning the amount. We did call you the next day to see if you were happy and satisfied 100% and we did not receive a phone call back so we did not know of your feelings until 4 months later. We are committed to our customers satisfaction and will continue to learn from our customers comments.

They could not have been any nicer on the phone or in person. I called in the morning when we had no heat and they came that afternoon. They called in advance and were on time and polite. They appear to be very knowledgable as well. My problem came when I was given the price of over $500 for the job which seemed high but like most people I know nothing about these particular jobs. I looked up the item price and it was $39. I guess the other five hundred was for labor. I asked a friend who happened to have the same work done last year and was told that was a crazy price. This was the price just for the fix nothing else was purchased or done. I went ahead and told them they could finish as they had already started but addressed the price and was told they have flat rates and aren't the cheapest company but don't claim to be. He was very polite about it. I did however call two other area companies and got an estimate for the exact job. I was sure not to tell them it was to compare as I wanted an idea of their regular price. The first company quoted the job at $240 and the second at $225. I was originally going to get a service contract but I declined it as there is no way I want to always question the cost. In all fairness to them they did reduce the job cost to $425. That's still double though. They also didn't charge me an $89 service charge they normally charge if you don't have a service contract with them. If not for the excessive cost I would call these people every time! I'm even willing to pay more for a good job but I can't justify double. It's a shame because he was even good about explaining the unit and things he thought I'd need in the future.

Hi [member name removed], We are a flat rate company and there is never a time where we do not discuss pricing with the customer first before completing any work. We are sorry that you feel our price did not compare to other companies, but getting a quote on the phone for a problem that was already diagnosed by our technician would be a lesser price. That company did not have to diagnose your system to make sure of why you had a gas odor. Our goal is to be committed 100% to customer satisfaction and would love to speak to you in person to resolve any questions you may have and assure you of any doubts.

Saturday morning water heater leaking badly. Needed replacement. They promptly came out and gave an estimate for $2,200 to replace the 50 Gallon Gas water heater on Monday afternoon. Also needed a condensation pump for AC unit. They wanted $425 and could do that right away. Prices seemed very high. Had a water heater installed at another building last year for $1,200. I took a pass on using their services. Bought a water heater at Lowes for $600, and a condensation pump for $60. It took me half the day to put the water heater in, and about half an hour to hook up the condensation pump. Very nice people, but prices seemed extremely high to me.

It was fine. They did the toilet tune up, they did very little as far as that one goes but the air conditioning tune up was another story, they told me I needed all this work on it and I actually did, they weren't comprehensive, they said I needed to pay another $200 and somewhat dollars to be back and about and for them to take the air conditioner part outside and clean it out. I had somebody else come out and when they did their inspection, that was all included. I was not too pleased because they said they would charge me extra for something that somebody does normally in their tune up. It wasn't such a big deal when you have to pay extra for something that people normally do in their tune up or something. The Big Deal was fine except that I ended up costing more money having somebody else come out and do the extra work. I don't like that kind of deal when they come out and then "Oh, you got this Big Deal but if you want us to do the whole thing, you got to pay more money." They came out when they said they would.

Ray and Gary were very helpful in helping me to better understand what it is I am dealing with in terms of plumbing. They gave me an estimate and helped me to prioritize projects. Robert showed up several minutes early, which was great since it was first thing in the morning and I needed to get to work after the visit He went over my cooling system inside and outside. We discussed a number of items and he was helpful with information. He noted two issues that might need attention, one during a fall visit to inspect the furnace and a second in the event a contact on the outside unit goes bad. I felt he struck the right tone of noting possible future issues but did not pressure me to take one or the other. He also answered my questions on whether I could replace some vents that were loosely attached with others that were a tighter fit.
