When the delivery came, the delivery person said they would not replace part of the venting. Also they said I would have to call to schedule a separate service appointment service to have the dryer door to re-configured! So I need to take more time off from work to accomodate this?
When I asked the delivery persons to wait a few mintes while I called the store about these issues - they left. When I called the store, I was hung up on by the service person.
All in all - if you buy from Gerhards - you are definietly paying more than many other places. However, I thought that I would get hassle free and complete delivery.
Just the opposite - big mistake to pay Gerhard's higher prices in expectation of good service.
There are many other places to go - and I will not do business with them in the future
Absolutely lousy experience and sorry I bought from them
Two years later the washer's motherboard fried in a storm. They replaced it no charge under warranty, but took time ordering the part (nobody stocks anything these days). However, during repair the tech forgot to connect a wire. I called and he didn't want to come back. I had to drag the 200 pound washer out and follow his instructions on the phone to connect this dumb little wire. Nice.
I'm a little concerned with the mixed reviews here. I'm out of warranty now and wonder what service will be like if/when I need it. All these guys have to do is outperform Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowes. That is a pretty low bar, but if they are failing a good portion of their customers here, that can't be good.
And the LACK of concern on Gerhard's part, for the extremely poor service, is astonishing. The Multiple phone conversations, over the past couple YEARS, we have had with the cust. service department is a lesson in what NOT to do/say as a cust serv rep. At one point, the customer service rep told me to "reconsider" my poor reviews since she felt I wasn't being truthful. Whatever happened to " the customer is always right" ? Honestly, I keep looking for the Candid Camera - this experience with Gerhards is now comical.
however, i'm not convinced the fridge they sold me wasn't used before (ktichenaid). it had a smudge on the side, was missing a piece, and has had many problems -- and it's only six months old! they insist it is new. the second time it broke, it took over a week to be repaired and, although they claim to offer this service, they did not provide me with a backup fridge to use while waiting. i guess they have one or two loaner fridges and they were out so i'm out of luck. i'm also out of luck for several hundred dollars of groceries that went bad. so now i'm stuck with a dud fridge that i'm sure will not last much beyond the one year warranty. the fridge i bought at my old house from home depot (LG) is still going strong 7 years later with no problems. maybe kitchen aid is to blame here, but sure would be nice to get just a little help from the people that sold me this fridge.
When we decided to give Gerhard's a chance, we went to the Glenside store and found that there were an abundance of salespeople who met us at the door. Our salesman, Eric was very knowledgeable and knew that we could only replace the current gas cooktop with one of two models. We chose the JennAIr. We had gone to the store on October 27th and had hoped to have delivery and installation of the appliances by Thanksgiving. Hurricane Sandy intervened and delayed the delivery of the cooktop, but we managed to get all appliances in time to have them installed by our contractor for Thanksgiving, when we expected 31 for dinner.
The only thing I would say about our interaction with this vendor is that after they make the sale they are not as prone to be as attentive to the customer as when they are making the sale. We used our own contractor for the job as we needed to have him build a cabinet for the oven and microwave. When the cooktop arrived it was unclear whether the parts could be altered without compromising the equipment. My husband and the contractor returned to the store with the cooktop to talk with the people about this issue and they did give them the number of a contractor who they use to install the JennAIr cooktop. This contractor was able to walk our contractor through the steps of making the changes needed.
I still would go back to Gerhard's for future purchases, however I think there needs to be a bit more attention to the customer after the sale is made.
The longer explanation is that their telephone "attitude" leaves something to be desired. I called soon after the store opened. The first person on the phone sounded like they had been working for 12 hours already. Before transferring me, this woman mentioned that I needed to speak with a manager to get this changed.
I was transferred to a gentleman who sounded like I just interrupted something much more important than this call that he had to take. I ignored his tone while he confirmed the new model's availability and that it would be delivered on the agreed upon date. The original model had a $50 rebate. The new one I was asking for did not. I understood that (the resulting price of the new dishwasher ended up being an additional $100). Strangely, when this fellow was informing me of the new pricing, his attitude could be described as defensive - almost confrontational.
There was nothing in the content of the conversation that I could describe as rude or offensive. He did his job and I got what I needed. However, it required that I ignore his attitude and ask questions to get answers I thought should have been freely included in the context of the conversation (i.e., will this affect the delivery date? is the financing going to change?). Because everything worked out (and I was aware of numerous customer stories on the net detailing difficult telephone conversations), I felt that I would not gain anything in going back to the company to recount my experience - especially if the "manager" I was speaking with was the one that was going to hear my complaint. Angie's List is getting this story because I am a new member and I feel this needs to be said.
I am in the service industry. Interpersonal attitude is a huge part of a successful transaction. While I was not purchasing the high-end products Gerhard's sells, I have to believe my purchase was not insignificant. It is unfortunate that something as simple as this telephone experience left a sour taste. Clearly, I am disappointed.
For my appliance purchases in the future, I will not eliminate Gerhard's from consideration. However this experience has forced me to be more diligent about considering other locally owned appliance stores.
"Hello Sir, I am truly sorry to hear that one of the employees here at Gerhard's may have been abrubt with you. We are a family run business and we pride ourselves on our customer service. We are fully aware that with out our customers we would not still be in business. I have looked up your account and who the sales person was. I have also emailed our staff in that store on this matter to discuss this matter. You can always feel free to contact us directly and customer service would be happy to work with you on what ever issue there may be, big or small. We appreciate customer feedback since it can only help improve our service. Thank You, Sonia K Gerhards Appliance Customer Service"
I had to call my credit card company to dispute the charges. Now I have a range in my kitchen which they refuse to accept as a return unless we pay a RE-STOCKING fee for THEIR error (or deceptive bait-and-switch.) I do not know, or care what the cause, but I do not wish to pay to restock a delivered item which I did not order (and for which I already paid a delivery and installation fee which I will have to pay again.)
RE: Gerhard's Response : We did NOT place an order in their store as they claim. We placed the order on the phone with the salesman we had originally dealt with. We had researched products very thoroughly, and knew precisely what model we wated to replace the originl GE Cafe we had ordered. The Kitchenaid "Pro" series was what we were quoted, and not the "Architect Series" which we realized was a lesser model. Gerhards' offer to charge us an additional $250 for the model they had agreed to deliver is clearly an unacceptable counter-offer. This is nothing but a fraudulent "bait and switch" tactic. We are woking with our credti card company as well as the PA Attorney General office to get them to remove their property from our premises.
I would not deal with this vendor again.
"The customer came into our store and gave us the model number that they wanted to purchase. That is the range that was delivered to the customer. The range she is now stating she wanted is $2500.00 a almost $500.00 difference in cost. The handles on these two ranges are not interchangeable. If the customer would like we are willing to meet her in the middle, we will remove the current range and give her the model she wants at $2250.00. Reducing the cost by $250.00. She will however have to pay a additional delivery charge of $39.95. They can feel free to contact Gerhards directly if this is agreeable to them."
