Ian, from Best Carpentry, completed our project quickly and efficiently and exceeded our expectations. He was very pleasant in addition to being a skilled carpenter with extensive experience and knowledge. All in all a very positive experience with a first rate craftsman.

Absolutely thrilled with the contractor's work! From start to finish, Ian demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and expertise. He was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure everything met our expectations. Communication was excellent throughout the process, keeping us informed every step of the way. Overall, I highly recommend his services for anyone looking for reliable, high-quality workmanship.

They were great. Very quick and responsive on the inquiry, scheduling the estimate and then completing the job. It was all done within 2-3 weeks. Extremely professional and great prices which matched the excellent work they did. He even went above and beyond by touching up some paint work on my trims within the house. I highly recommend them and will use them as my main contact going forward. Thank you for everything.

I have read some of the fantastic reviews here, but I feel like my husband and I dealt with a totally different person on our project! Nice guy, but this job with Ian was a disaster from the beginning. First, he always seemed to be in a rush to get things done and was extremely loud, yelling, cursing and literally screaming at his assistant while doing the work. Totally unprofessional and embarrassing with all our neighbors in earshot. Second, we don't like to micro-manage contractors, but we probably should have in this case. I told him that I wanted brown composite decking and left it up to him to install something that was close to our existing back deck. After returning from the lumber yard, he tried to install boards of two different types and colors. He blamed it on the guys at the lumber yard, saying they gave him the mismatched materials. Then he told us that they didn't have enough of the brown color and although he tried to find us more of the material, I decided to search online for myself. I located it at Lowes. Ian was then able to pick it up and install the correct material after my husband stepped in and worked out a landing design. This was 3 days into the process which was way too much time spent on a small landing and staircase. Finally, the detail work is so awful that my husband and I are now redoing what we paid him to complete. We should have stopped him in mid-job but we were on a deadline for Home Depot to install a storm door the following Monday, which had already been postponed once, due to the Home Depot's error. My husband and I are very handy and probably could have done the finish work ourselves, but we had other projects to complete so we decided to hire someone for the entire project. Big mistake! We are redoing the following: stair treads to compensate for the weird end caps that were installed; bottom trim on the landing posts that was missing; one stair post that has 2 screws in it, at least one railing system that was cut at the wrong angle, multiple connectors and a piece of siding that was never replaced when the old landing was removed. This adds up to many hours of work and several hundred dollars in additional to what we've already spent. We have plenty more projects at our home that require carpentry skills, but this is one carpenter that will never be invited back.

As I was finishing my transaction at a hardware store, this dude put his things on the register while I was still being helped, and then cursed me out when my gift card needed to be manually entered by the cashier. He then told the manager who offered to take him in “ya coulda done that 10 minutes ago”. British accent, real pleasant guy. Shouldn’t wear your company’s merchandise if you’re gonna be a jerk.

Beautiful. Ian is professional and more importantly punctual and gets the job done. Ian was very attentive to what I wanted done and followed my specifications with some added tweaks. End result exceeded my expectations! Ian is already working on some quotes for additional work I want to do in my condo. I expect to have him back here soon. Best Carpentry is your Best Choice.

Ian came out on the agreed upon date and began building and installing the rails. It was great to see a master carpenter at work. With his critical eye, he made sure that each angle was perfect , that the railing was level and secure. He then stained the entire railing as part of the price. It looks great. A few days later as we were dusting we noticed that one of the wood posts was cracked slightly. All it took was a phone call to Ian. The next week, he was at the house with a hand full of posts. He examined each post and replaced the ones that were not perfect. More than I saw. He then repainted all the post to make sure that they all matched. It was a true pleasure to work with a carpenter that is truly proud of the work he does. I will hire him again and recommend him highly.

Could not be happier with Ian's workmanship and the final product we received. We have an older home with steam radiators that were fitted in tight spaces throughout the home and therefore never covered. With a toddler on the way we knew we needed a solution, options online were not feasible due to the tight spaces/sizes. Ian came, took all relevant measurements, returned a quote promptly, and scheduled work. The finished product went beyond our expectations, both in craftsmanship and appearance. Ian took extra care to match the traditional theme of our home.

Ian and his crew did a great job. I hired him to remove built-ins in my bedroom and also to hang a new exterior door. He removed the built-ins, cut and installed new baseboard molding, repaired the wall and painted it so it looked as good as new. Ian hung the exterior door and added extra weather stripping to account for the door jam being half an inch wider at the bottom than at the top. This is the first time that light has not shone through the door! Very appreciative! Ian also noticed that the caulking around two of my tubs was breaking down and offered to recaulk the tubs at minimal expense. He also installed a lock for me on an additional exterior door and helped to alleviate the bowing of that door, which I hadn't previously noticed. Ian took care of all of this in two days. He left my house looking great and clean. I will be hiring Ian for all my home repairs and painting jobs from now on.

Ian and his partner worked diligently and were unfailingly polite and very punctual. The worst squeaks were dealt with. Many smaller squeaks remain. It may be a function of the age of the oak floor (82 years) or the original workmanship when the floor was laid although I have been in older homes in my area that do not have this problem. I do not regret spending the money to find out if the issue could be resolved. Ian also repaired a cabinet door hinge at no extra cost to me, which I very much appreciated. I believe that Ian has great knowledge of his business and my situation should not be construed as a detriment to hiring him.

The front entry to our home is over 100 years old and the front door is the original door and over 200 years old. The door was in need of being replaced or repaired. We initially got quotes from some of larger window and door manufactures and they said that the whole entry and door had to be replaced due to the unusual size of the door (74x36). We were a bit distraught because that meant getting rid of the leaded glass windows that surrounded the entry and the door. The entry framing and windows were solid and we only needed to have the door replaced or repaired. We thought there had to be a better alternative besides their estimates were the cost of a midsize luxury car. That is when we found Ian with Best Carpentry. Ian looked at the door and said you can't replace the door due to its history and said that he could repair and repaint the door. To finish the story, Ian restored the door in less than a day and it looks and works beautifully. We are very pleased with the work completed and his professionalism. Most importantly he understood our desire to keep the integrity of the house and made it happen at a very affordable cost to us.

We read through reviews and received the lowest quote from Best Carpentry. Ian was on time and the beginning of the installation went well. However, when we followed up with him about additional parts of the project included in the estimate, he said they weren't included. Rather, we were told that we could complete this part ourselves, with Ian rudely stating he “didn’t have time for this” and that he already spent too much money on this job. We had to show him the quote he sent us before he relented, completing the rest of the work in a hurry affecting the end quality. We pointed out some of the unstained parts while Ian was here, but are still finding more that were missed. The staining was carelessly done and not evenly applied, stair risers and wall have stain drippings, and the railing is not flush with the post. We are extremely disappointed with this work and will not be using them again.

We had a great experience with Ian. We contacted him about having our vinyl tiling in our bathroom replaced. Ian responded promptly, and was always quick to communicate with us. He was able to give us an estimate that weekend, and replaced the floor a few weeks later. The work looks great, and he even fixed a closet door knob that we had been having an issue with. We would absolutely hire him again and recommend him.

Very sloppy. If something was in his way he didn't move it, he'd put it in the trash. Had to replace paneling twice because it bowed away from the wall. He left trash on my sidewalk. Threw my furniture, books, and other items around. He would leave and not return for days, and one time a couple weeks. Broke a couple doors and a light switch. There are still items missing. Note that I am NOT saying he stole them but I still can't find them. Carpeting was the only thing done well and that was done by a subcontractor.

Unfortunately, this job was more difficult than originally anticipated. The initial estimate was to replace ceiling tiles, paneling, flooring, etc. due to water damage. To address the statement "Had to replace paneling twice because it bowed away from the wall," the water damage was recurring and required me to replace the paneling three total times, which was unforeseen and not quoted in the original estimate (no additional charge was incurred despite this). This was caused by a lack of French drain in the basement and the sloping of the ground towards the area in question. Addressing drainage in the basement was not in the original quote and would be work more suited to a dry basement company, not a carpenter. To address the claims of missing items, the estimate quoted for "prepping the basement for repairs (clean out)." Any items that were "put in the trash" were included under the scope of cleaning out due to water damage. I have been in this business for over twenty years and pride myself in completing work to the utmost satisfaction of the homeowner. To the best of my knowledge, the homeowner was pleased with the work that I did and I was unaware that anything was damaged as this was never indicated to me verbally or otherwise.

In summary, I couldn't be happier! Ian's work is TOP NOTCH! I rarely post reviews. However, I must agree with the others whom posted reviews about Ian and his company Best Carpentry. Ian's work is is the better than best. For my project, Ian installed solid hardwood and new 5 1/4" baseboards throughout my first floor. Ian is polite, punctual, honest, and his work is very neat and precise. He started work on time, and worked exclusively on my home for several weeks. I have already hired Ian and Best Carpentry for other projects which are just getting started. Now that I finally found a friendly, reliable, honest contractor I can trust, I am planning out my future projects as well! If the project requires a drill, hammer or saw, Ian is the man for the job! I am a very happy customer looking forward to my future projects!

Initially things seemed to go well. I called Ian for a quote and he came out the same day. After discussing what I wanted done, which included laminate installed and a new sub floor, Ian said he would have a quote for me by the weekend. He made a point of telling me that this would be a big job but he would get it done though it would take about three weeks before he could begin. I was fine with that. This was on Monday. The weekend came and went and no contact. I called Best Carpentry on the following Monday and asked what happened and was told he had to work and that he could have the quote by the weekend. During out phone conversation I asked his opinion of the laminate I had chosen and he told me he preferred hardwood.Who wouldn't prefer a beautiful wood product? I should have know by that remark he wasn't the installer for me. That wasn't very helpful since I am on a fixed income and unable to afford hardwood. He never bothered to call me or provide a quote. The experience was very irritating and I wasted time trying to work with this person. Best Carpentry? If his work is anything like his unprofessional behavior I got lucky!!

Ian and Ryan did excellent work. Both the process and the outcome were perfect. They arrived on time every day, were extremely respectful and left their work area tidy at the end of each day. . They checked in with us along the way to make sure we were happy with the design. They worked efficiently and quietly and got both jobs done in the time they projected. We actually added on the bookcase request as they were finishing the porch railing and they accommodated our request. As the bookcase was being completed another tradesman asked that we get a carpenter to make a modification so that he could install gutters. Once again Ian squeezed us in to his busy schedule to help us out. Both Ian and Ryan are great workers and very nice to have around. The final cost of the projects was exactly what was quoted. We would hire them again in a heartbeat. We have already asked for them to come back to the property for a few small jobs when their schedule permits.
