Boulder Landscapes managed to fit us into their schedule when others were too busy to take the job. Brian and John were extremely professional, courteous and polite. They worked extremely hard over a 2 day period to remove some boulders from our property. Most companies would have probably given up, but they saw it as a challenge. I would highly recommend Boulder Landscapes and their services. Great job!

Great. They found that the sink hole was very deep but thankfully had not yet caused any sinking of the porch steps or the walkway. Without impacting any of the plantings or a retaining wall that was very close to the situation, they hand filled the sink hole and compressed the material substantially to address the issue and to ensure there is no future settling. I was really worried and their rapid and professional response but my fears to rest so quickly. Back to being perfect with no additional impact. Not an easy job since it was all done by hand without the benefit of a machine.
Description of Work: I had a great deal of excavating work done about 9 years ago that culminated in laying a new cement front porch, steps, and walkway. In the Spring I was shocked to see that a sink hole had developed under the porch steps and the first few pads of the walkway. I didn't know the extent of the issue but my mind went to the worst of possibilities. I immediately called the owner of Boulder Landscaping to assess the issue and address the issue. He replied immediately and came out to assess the next day. The issue was defined and resolved within a week.

Brian and his team did a fantastic job. They were professional and cared about our project as if it was their own. We had a lot of questions and concerns, and Brian fielded every one of them. The end result surpassed our expectations. The stonework looks great and natural, like it's been there forever. Couldn't be happier. And the excavation work looks great for being a tricky task to execute for our project.
Description of Work: We had stone steps built into an embankment in our back yard and then a stone path at the top of our embankment. These new features needed to wrap a custom shed (built by us). But the shed required some backfilling and finish excavation work (done by Boulder Landscapes).

Called Brian to schedule an appointment to build a waterfall and landscape our yard. He was over an hour late for the consult. Told him what we were looking for and he said he'd come up with a plan. Fast forward a few weeks later. Returned to our house, late again, still no plan. Never heard from him after that. Attempted to contact him several times through email, text, calls. No response! Horrible way to run a business.

$40,000

Response from Boulder Landscapes
I never did work for this woman and never gave her an estimate so how she came up with $40,000 dollars is a mystery to me. This review is very vague and generalized it's clearly meant to make me look bad, anybody that knows me knows I'm not this type of person. Just because you call me and things done transpire into an agreement doesn't constitute an F rating.

Brian and his wonderful team performed a huge amount of work last fall in my backyard and front yard. First of all I would like to mention that I was talking with several contractors, some of them were scared by the large volume and difficulties associated with preforming this project. Brian gave me the best price, his team designed the backyard layout because I had a very slight idea how to make it look good. Brian is very punctual, he calls if he is 30 min late. The team is very skilled and pleasant. They never missed time, unless it was raining. Brian used huge boulders for the retaining wall in the backyard, put mulch on the second level, planted 12 tall grasses, finish design with river stones, planted grass. His team also installed a block retaining wall in the front of the house, fixed the driveway, made flower beds using smaller boulders. My neighbors were very impressed, a number of them came over to check the place. Brian is very helpful and friendly, he is also willing to give you an advice, even after the work is done. I highly recommend his service.

When I initially contacted Brian via messaging him through Angie's list, he was very honest about how busy was. He told me that he was too busy to help me for the next couple of weeks. I thanked him for being responsive, and asked him for a referral. He then told me he would swing by to take a look at my problem, which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. He was at my doorstep about 2 hours later. He took a look at my problem, gave me a few options, and provided a fair estimate. He told me he could have a crew come by in the next 7-8 days. I agreed, and a week later he called to let me know they would be stopping by. He had 2 guys on his crew. They brought all the necessary gravel in a big truck and banged out the job in about 6 hours. They cleaned up after themselves. They were courteous, fast, efficient, and clearly knew what they were doing. Brian is professional, fair, and honest. His guys work hard and do a good job. I couldn't recommend him and Boulder Landscapes more highly.

We couldn?t be happier with the outcome of our project. From the beginning, Brian knew exactly what was needed to solve our eroding hillside. He was very courteous and professional. The crew was fantastic, professional, very hard working and friendly. They went above and beyond what we had expected, in fact, we think they were the best company we?ve ever had do work for us. Jennifer has such vision, a true asset to the company as are the rest of the team. The hillside turned out fabulous and the dry stacked cobblestone wall they rebuilt came out excellent. Top stars on all accounts!
Description of Work: Rebuilt cobblestone wall approx, 25 feet in length, added a shorter cobblestone wall above that, edged top to bottom of hill with cobblestones. Placed large stone steps halfway up hillside and rest of hill filled with boulders. Placed large boulders on bottom of driveway hillside and laid slabs on opposite side of driveway to keep hillside in place. We have a yard of hills.

The job went extremely well. Brian came out personally and gave us a price on the work. He explained in detail the steps of the project. I felt very comfortable with him that this will be perfect when completed. The job went quicker that expected and I could not have asked for a more relaxing place to enjoy a fire at. The work was done very neatly. I will absolutely be calling him again for more work at our home this upcoming spring.

I made an appointment with brian to bid a large landscape project at my home that would probably need fieldstones. He said he would call me between 8 and 9 am on Thursday 7/16 and be over around noon same day. After not receiving the call at 11 am I called him and he apologized and said his crane broke down and he would be over in an hour. At 3pm he still hadn't shown up. It's now Monday 7/20--no response. So--I can't really speak to the quality of his work but my biggest pet peeve with contractors is their general business demeanor. Call me when you say you will and show up when you say you will. If you can't--all you need to do is call and explain and reschedule. To tell a customer you'll show up and then not be there is totally unprofessional. Thanks for wasting my day! Clearly your time is more important than mine.

From the time of my initial call to Brian for an estimate until after the job was complete, Brian always responded very quickly to my calls and was easy to work with. He was accommodating and willing to communicate in whatever way worked best for me - phone, text, email, etc. He provided valuable suggestions for how to best accomplish the project without trying to push me in any one direction. Within a couple weeks of my first contact, Brian sent his crew out and completed the project in one day. I was very pleased with how the wall turned out. His guys did a very nice job. There was one minor finishing touch that we had talked about that they didn't do that day. When I asked Brian about it he came right out within a couple days and completed it. Overall, I was very pleased with the work they did and the price was a good bit less than some other quotes I got. I would definitely hire them again for another project.

Brian was very responsive and professional from the initial contact. His enthusiasm and energy was very refreshing - it was obvious he takes pride in his work. When we decided to move forward he made arrangements to complete my project that following week. Throughout the entire process he was involved and on top of everything. The cost was fair and the finished project is awesome. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Brian and his crew were fantastic. They were professional, friendly and easy to work with. The end result far exceeded our expectations. We are proud of our backyard and are looking forward to spending lots of time there next summer. I also feel it's necessary to explain how we came about hiring Brian. We had just replaced our retaining wall and had an awful experience with the contractor we had used. He left our backyard a mess and I started looking for landscapers to repair the yard. When Brian came out, I was only asking him to look at the landscaping projects. He took it upon himself to inspect our retaining wall and informed me of its poor construction and dummy drains. He wasn't trying to increase his own scope of work, he was genuinely looking out for our investments (he actually encouraged me to contact the original contractor to repair the wall). Because of his care and concern, we decided to use him not only for our landscaping, but also to rebuild our wall. Best decision we made!
Description of Work: Replaced our existing tie wall with a 50-ft boulder wall, embankment boulder placements with river rock / dry creek bed, shrunk another bed and lined it in rock, removed shrubbery and reseeded lawn.

I seriously do not know what this guy is talking about. He called me at the beginning of August. I was driving, and I told him to go through my contact page on my website so that there wouldn't be a risk of an email being diverted into spam . He did the opposite (of-course) I never knew he emailed me until he reviewed me and I found his email in my spam. He claims to have tried to contact me several ways, which isn't true because I looked through my phone records and I have no voicemails , missed calls , text messages or emails. He also claims I'm not in business when he can clearly read my current reviews and the dates are pretty obvious I'm fully functional, and I absolutely have no idea what he's talking about when he puts a $25,000 dollar amount on there when I never stepped on his property. I'm a very hard working company and always willing to go the extra mile for any current or potential customers . I tried to call him 4 times on the day I received the review and also left a voicemail asking him to please call me back trying to explain to him that the one email he sent me I never saw and he avoided me. He emailed me back saying that there must be something wrong with my website. So I called my website, which is Yellowbook, and asked them if there was any problems with the contact page around that time, and they said no,everything was working smoothly. I'm a phone call away. Don't let 3 months go by and then write an unfactual review !

The owner is very creative and made something that I could not even envision. Great communication from him as well as collaboration on the approach throughout the process. I am very happy with the outcome. The job was done on schedule and on budget. The team of workers were very professional, very hard working and took every care to ensure that there was no damage to my existing property - even though they had a very narrow passage into my back yard. The team was also professional friendly and generous to my neighbors who had to live through a few weeks of construction activity. The outcome is a decorative dry creek bed, bordered by a small retaining wall to frame the entrance - the dry creek bed acts as a natural path to the back corner of my yard where there is now a new small sitting area with a natural stone bench. This area sloped area originally had huge and dangerous pine trees - and was very dark and gloomy. Now it is a paradise.
Description of Work: Extensive landscaping - modifying a backyard slope into what I consider to a landscape worthy of an award. They added a decorative, but very natural appearing dry creek bed - which is hard-scaped with beautiful boulders soften by strategic plantings. Really really beautiful.

I found Boulder Landscapes through Angie's List. After reading all the great reviews, I contacted Brian, the owner and landscape/hardscape designer. From the get go, I knew he was the contractor for us. Brian had the experience on the type of wall construction we were looking for. A Versi-Lok wall is a formula construction. Building a wall of boulders is a science of design, know how and workmanship. Brian and his crew did a great job from initial contact, to design, to installation, to cleanup. Brian was in constant communication and promptly returned any of my calls or texts. If he had to be a little late, he always told me. I never had to call him wondering where he was. Brian and his crew worked on our job until completion-no leaving to work on other jobs in-between ours. Everyone did a great job. They were hardworking, conscientious, and loved what they were doing. The retaining wall is huge. It is 37 feet long and 5-6 feet high and has an extension along the steps that is 16 feet long and 3 feet high. It was so interesting to watch the crew select, chisel, move and fit these 1000-2000 pound boulders together into a wall. The boulder wall actually cost less than the Versi-Lok wall that he had an estimate on. If you want something average, go with Versi-Lok. Boulder Landscapes will do a great job on that too. But if you want something "Wow", go with natural boulders, either on a large scale like ours, or smaller to fit your needs. I can't say enough great things about Brian and Boulder Landscapes. Thanks!

Brian was extremely responsive and called me back the same evening I called him. We communicated that evening on the phone and via text and decided that we were not going to go through with the job we originally wanted estimated because it was too big. However, when he found out we were filing for a variance in our township, he knew we would need further documentation to support our case and he made plans to come out and complete the estimate and necessary documentation for us. Brian was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional! He continued to assist us even after it was clear we would not be moving the retaining wall. The actual estimate to preform the work seemed extremely reasonable for the job and was emailed to us in a professional format the same evening after he came by our home. He included all measurements and details that we would require to file our variance with our township. He was honest and helpful.
Description of Work: Brian came out and gave us an estimate on a job to move a large retaining wall so that we could put a deck on the back of our house. In addition, because we decided against a project of that magnitude, he put together a very thorough document on our behalf that we could include in our request for a variance (even though he knew he would not be preforming any work for us).

Brian and his crew did such a great job from initial contact to completion. Had some delays at first due to all the rain in July. However, Brian kept in contact and updated us all the time. when it wasn't raining, they were here. We worked closely with Brian as the project moved forward running ideas and tweaking things. Brian has a great sense of landscape design. The project was quite large and the crew worked extremely hard. Always very polite and proud of their work. It shows. We can't say enough how pleased and happy we are with the end result. They transformed a ho-hum, I hate going into the backyard into something beautiful! We have another project in the works with Brian for the front yard.
Description of Work: integrated various size boulders into rear landscape. cleared and leveled yard in areas where needed. Built two low stone walls around 2 beds. Made and planted a raised bed with mulch and outlined in stone. Cleared and an existing very large bed consisting of weeds and woody plants and made a mulch bed with large boulders. Constructed a stone paver walkway from large bed leading to upper planted bed. Used river rock to enhance boulders and certain areas of water runoff. Mulched and planted. Reseeded yard.

This is Part One of my review - will circle back after work is completed. We are in the midst of purchasing a house and won't be closing for a few more weeks, however, we're lining up contractors now to perform work directly after our closing. On July 1, I contacted Brian Wohlgemuth, owner of Boulder Landscapes/Good Nature Groundskeeping, Inc. based on his Angie's List reviews. He responded that day with a phone call to discuss the job. He stayed in contact via email with me throughout the process of visiting the site, clarifying the work items and then emailing an estimate to me. The estimate was, IMO, extremely reasonable and I immediately agreed to the work. A few days later, the current owners of the house experienced a sewer line back-up and replaced the line from the house to the street. Although the ground was replaced to cover the pipe, that contractor did not reseed - they only replaced the dirt to cover the line. As you can imagine, it's a rather expansive area that's ruined between the sewage line install and where the backhoe was parked. I emailed Brian to explain the situation and asked that he take a look at restoring and reseeding this area. Within a day, he went back to the house to review the damage and responded with an email quote - again, I thought for the amount of work to be performed, the price was very reasonable. The "approximate cost of service" listed above is for both the vegetation clearing and the lawn remediation work. So far, I am THRILLED with his professionalism and responsiveness! I expect to have the work done by early August so I will finish my review then. **UPDATAE** So now it's Sept. 18 and I'm updating my review.... Love Love Love Brian! His crew cleared and removed a ton of weeds, busted up chunks of concrete, trimmed a tree that was hanging over the garage, dug out some shrubs, added topsoil & seeded the sewage line install area and sprayed for weed control. AND, he came a few days earlier than scheduled so it was a huge, happy surprise to pull into the driveway and see my yard looking so spiffy :-) We decided to simply maintain the yard as-is for now, work on our landscaping plan in the coming months with Brian and have him execute it in the spring. He is super friendly, professional, responsive, reasonably priced - what more could you ask for?!
