The old tub/shower combo was 35 years old, the tile surround was starting to bulge and the harvest gold color was dated, so I figured let's look at a new one - shouldn't be too much... it was more than I'd thought, but as I watched the job progress, I saw why. They: - tore out the tile and soggy plaster behind - picked up the new tub and surround from my supplier - figured out how to remove the tub from its alcove AND get it down a tight staircase without bashing the walls on the way (not easy!) - figured out how to install the Acclaim (by Sterling ) tub and surround and adapt it and the Adler (by Moen) faucet/shower to the existing plumbing - not an easy fit, but one they approached and solved patiently. I was also impressed to see Chuck reading the directions to be sure it went in right. The Vikrell reinforced plastic used in the tub and shower is sturdy and low maintenance (no more grout repair!) - installed new plasterboard above the surround up to the ceiling, shimming to match the level of the abutting plaster - painted wall and ceiling of the job (I then took the chance to roll the rest of the room as long as we were at it) - installed an American Standard Champion 4 toilet (at $200 from Lowes, a good deal which performs well) - came every day, and did the most possible, to keep the job moving. (Chuck thought the job would take 5 days, but complications took it to 10) - Chuck also helped with discussions as to how I could remove the old vanity top (another story) - finally, they removed all the trash from the job, recycling the metal parts when possible
Description of Work: Remove and replace old tub/shower and toilet. Chuck Thomas did most of the work, with an assist from his helper, Chris. Both were cheerful, upbeat, steady workers and good problem-solvers. The estimated cost was also my final cost, and somewhat lower than Lowes.
