.Detected that a part needed to be replaced but got unit working and did not replace it when it failed 2 more times. Finally yesterday they agreed to replace part for free after I had someone else come out & dispel their argument that it must be because we don’t know how to work thermostat! Then this morning when an additional piece was detected as also needing to be replaced said I would have to pay $300 for labor on that part. Or $400 and they would upgrade original one they said would be free. Or I could use a different company but then I would be waiving warranty on other parts! Despite calling me immediately to get my CC info repair man did not start job until 1 1/2 hr later. Incompetent, distrustful and unprofessional is how I would describe them.

I called this company on January 5 because my heater stopped working. On their web, it states that the company offers 24/7 emergency services. The technician called me back and stated that the earlier he could be there would be tomorrow. If you do not offer emergency service, you should not advertise it on your website.

My experience was good. The air conditioning and heating unit worked but they said that it was an energy saving and we would get a $400 rebate. The gas company said no and it wasn't the right unit for that. After it was installed, we found out it wasn't the right unit for that. They should be honest. They do good work. I wouldn't use them again because of the fact that they gave us a different brand. Also, they told us there would be a rebate and there wasn't a rebate but they did give us a couple of hundred dollars off because we couldn't get a rebate.

We called Fahrenheit to have our old heater serviced. They came out took a quick look and said the unit was in a bad state and in need of repair if possible. They then quick moved in to selling us a new heater. We got a written quote and they also have finance which we used. To be honest felt more like a sales call that a repair call. They said we needed one ASAP so I bit and got the estimate in writing. They came back the next day to take out the old unit and a day later the new unit was installed. There was some disconnect between the people doing the removal and install. After the installation was completed during the filling and setup stages I was asked to drain all the air from the radiators, something I thought they would do. The work are was left as a complete mess. Solder all over the place, all over the pipes, just a mess. Then once the work was done, I noticed some parts that were quoted were not installed. I called and asked they just told me they were not needed. I asked about a price change because parts were not used and they would not drop the price. I recently called to have my heater again serviced before winter and they found out that the chimney was bad. I was thinking should this have not been checked before the replaced the heater 2 years ago. They gave me a price of $3000 to reline the chimney. I of course called around and will not be using them for this. Plus since my service contract is up with them I will no longer be using them for any future service. I get the felling of up selling and everything is an emergency.

Joel Lynn arrived promptly at my home for the estimate appointment. He brought his binder with him, but sadly never showed me any choices for a comparison. I stupidly trusted him. Lesson learned- don't trust Joel Lynn. I asked for a middle of the road unit. Not too cheap, not too expensive. What I got was a cheap unit and was very likely over charged. It only had an 80% efficiency rating, therefore I was unable to apply for the rebate offered by PGW. To receive the rebate the unit must have an efficiency rating of 95%. I asked about rebates & was told by Joel, "They don't give those anymore." Wrong. PGW gives rebates. Joel should have known this & informed me about the rebate. The technicians arrived promptly for the install. There were 2 guys who worked tirelessly all day. To remove the heater they had to cut it apart because it wouldn't fit out the doorway of the room it was in. I asked Joel about removing that heater, he told me "Piece of cake." It was not. These poor guys really struggled to get it out. Ten hours later the heater & AC were installed. They technicians cleaned up, hauled away the old stuff, finally done. Heater works fine. have yet to try the AC. So- don't be a dummy like me. Don't trust Joel. Do your research & make sure everything, make, model, warrenty etc, is documented on the invoice. Be knowledge of rebates offered not only by the federal government, but also by the power/gas company used. Ladies especially, beware.

Like I mentioned, the repair was taken care of right on the spot and I was not swindled like the other company had attempted. The only money that left my pocket was the $79 trip fee that was quoted up front when I called. I am extremely satisfied with the work and the leak is no more! I took these guys on for a service contract for my heat and air conditioning as well. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reputable HVAC contractor.
Description of Work: My hot water boiler was leaking and I called another company first to come look at the problem. They charged me $150 and told me that I would need to replace the system. I almost fell for it but after reading their reviews on here told them I would need a second opinion. I contacted Fahrenheit who sent out an extremely knowledgable technician who was able to tell me that I did not need a brand new system. It was due to a leak at an air vent which simply needed to be tightened which he did right then and there.

These guys are a huge ripoff! The thermocouple on my boiler went bad. This happens all the time. It's basically a wire held in by a few screws. The part costs $12 and can be installed by any layman in about 15-20 minutes. But when my boiler went out, I had to go to work. I have a 5-year-old and a wife who is 8 months pregnant, so I wanted the heat to be back on before we came home. So I called these guys and told them I needed a thermocouple. They told me they would come by between 11am and 1pm so that I could meet them there. They also said it would be $130 for the trip, but that it would go toward the job (which I figure should cost maybe $100- so no big deal). They got there late. The guy immediately tried to tell me that I needed a new pilot assembly too because mine was rusted. I knew this wasn't true. He puts me on the phone with someone to give me the price. He said it would be almost $700!! So I told him I JUST want the thermocouple. He argued with me, but eventually agreed to do it for $279!! When I asked why it was so high he told me it was because the $130 was IN ADDITION to the cost of the job. At that point I told them to leave. I did pay the $130 because I agreed to it, but they did nothing. After work, I bought the part for $12 and installed it myself. I took out the pilot assembly to find no rust whatsoever. It upsets me very much that these guys are going around ripping off people who don't know any better.

It started good but ended horrifically. I called them after my boiler stopped working at 9:00 pm and they said they could be there at 9am the next day. The next day came and they called me at 8:00 am to tell me that they'd be there at 9:00 am. They told me that the cost to come out and estimate my work would be $99 - despite the website saying "free estimates." At 10:30am, I called them to find out where they were and I was told they're running late and someone will be there in 1 hour. At 1:30pm, I called them to find out where they were and I was told they're in the neighborhood and will be there shortly. At 3pm, they called me to say they had just finished their last job and would be there in a few minutes. At 4pm, they arrived. The man spent about an hour looking at the boiler. After an hour he put me on the phone with his boss Joey. I was advised by Joey that I needed a new gas valve (which I actually already knew) and also a new computer. He said that the cost of the job would be $2,500. I asked him how much of that was parts and labor and told him there's no way that I was going to pay that. He told me, after much griping, he would drop the price to $1,900 and that the parts were $1,500 and the labor was $400. What Joey didn't know was that I already knew how much the parts were. The gas valve is $250 and the computer is $150 (and it's debatable whether it even needed a computer). I had already gotten quotes from supply houses. So he was telling me the parts were $1,500 when they were really $400. Besides all this - The serviceman who came out to inspect it was unprofessional, uncourteous and cursed a lot. He tried to get me to play a joke on his boss Joey for him but I would not. I went and had another company out to do the work and the total, without the computer, was $550 and it didn't need a computer.

Fahrenheit did not fix our heating issue and we feel incredibly taken advantage of for the second time by them. We will not be using Fahrenheit ever again and actively recommend avoiding them for any HVAC problem. Back in May we called Fahrenheit to service our air conditioner which admittedly had not been serviced for a few years and was overworking. They did this work for $779, which included a service contract for "future visits." We called them this past October to fix our furnace under the impression that the visit and diagnosis would be included in this "service contract" we paid for, but apparently their service contract is merely a ploy to come back out to your house and charge you for unnecessary parts and labor. Two technicians came out on October 24 for about 3 hours. After speaking with them following their diagnosis we were told that it was NOT poor gas pressure coming into the house but in fact a faulty gas valve and electronics on our 5-year-old furnace. Fahrenheit said that the gas pressure was lost when the gas got to this valve and it needed to be replaced, so they replaced the valve for $992. After they replaced it, our furnace still did not work and the problem was the exact same: it would kick on and run for 10-15 seconds, then kick off. We were then told to call PGW to check the gas meter. PGW came out the next day and immediately determined it to be faulty gas pressure coming into the house--exactly what we were told it was NOT by Fahrenheit! PGW replaced the meter and the pipe coming into the house, pressure was restored, and our problem was fixed. Our furnace works great now. We did not need a new valve for our 5-year-old system and this was completely misdiagnosed; this was a complete waste of money and times and an experienced and knowledgeable technician should have been able to determine that our pressure issue was a faulty meter, not a "defective" valve that didn't need to be replaced. When I called Fahrenheit after PGW came out and accurately diagnosed our problem, Fahrenheit said they wouldn't second guess their technician's notes and there was nothing they could do. Unbelievable. I firmly caution against using Fahrenheit; I feel snookered into paying for something I didn't need and taken advantage of at a time where we had no heat and where I'm in no position to second guess the HVAC technician. We wasted almost $1,000 on this company and will not be using them in the future. They had no idea what the problem was and overcharged by an order of magnitude. AVOID.
Description of Work: Replaced our furnace's gas valve which we were told was broken and the cause of our furnace's failure to stay on for more than 10-15 seconds. This cost nearly $1,000.

Our home heater died after 40 plus years of service to the house we bought, when I looked online to find a repairman to come out and look at it to see if it was fixable I found a look dealer in Fahrenheit. They were here the next day on time with a quick diagnosis on what the options were to fix or replace the unit. After speaking with the service supervisor Joe Lynn, the best option would be to replace the unit asap because it was so old and unsafe to replace part by part would be very expensive. They repairmen where here the next day on time to replace the unit and were here most of the day to ensure that we had heat by the end of the day. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know, they were very professional and respectable from start to finish. Being a local dealer to shows how long they have been in this neighborhood and what great quality they provide on everything they install to their customers.

Thankfully, a Horizon Tech came out on 7/3/2012 and completed a full assessment of both the indoor and outdoor units and found that our system was pumping at 370 PSI (unit is only rated for 300 PSI max working at 700 test) and needed to be refilled with Freon. He was shocked to find out the Freon was refilled only a few weeks prior. I explained the situation and let him know Fahrenheit’s seemingly frail diagnosis of needing a new indoor unit. The Horizon Tech took off the indoor unit cover and showed me that nothing was wrong with our inside coil. He proceeded to show me that the feed to the indoor coil was freezing up. Upon inspection of the outdoor unit, it was discovered that the wrong metering device had been installed to regulate the amount of Freon and there was a possibility of an obstruction in the line. The Carrier unit is a 2011 and requires a TXV metering device. Unfortunately, an outdated metering device was used and there was an obstruction in the line. The Horizon Tech initialed this as “installation error”. The use of the TXV metering device is specified in the installation guide. Also, each part of the Carrier unit has a bar code to ensure the proper parts are used. Needless to say it cost us another $1,700 to correct the poor installation job by Fahrenheit. I have several photos, service slips, and a full technical write up from Horizon documenting this tragedy. I can’t believe this would happen in today’s economy. Please also be aware, HVAC companies are required to provide you with a copy of a “Notice of Cancellation”, giving the consumer the right to cancel service within three days, without any financial obligation. This was provided to me and explained by the Horizon Tech. Although it may be futile, I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and potentially legal counsel to assess any right to financial returns for the lack of service and the “installation error” I experienced with Fahrenheit.
Description of Work: PLEASE READ THIS!!! If you are having issues with your HVAC, DO NOT and I cannot stress this enough... DO NOT USE Fahrenheit Heating and Air Conditioning in Horsham, PA. My A/C stopped working in April and Fahrenheit told us the compressor was no longer serviceable. We did have the indoor and outdoor unit replaced 5 years prior with a Gibson, but understood it was a cheaper unit in the market. The original quite was for $7,000 for a R-22 unit because of the Freon phase out, but my wife and I did not want to invest that much since we are moving in the next year. The we were quoted $5,000 to replace the outdoor unit. Again, we could not afford to replace the system. After we let Joe (service Manager) know that we were going to keep shopping, the price dropped to $3,000. SO, $3,000 later, they installed a new Carrier outdoor unit WITH A WARRANTY On 4/20/2012. Approximately 3 weeks later, the A/C unit stopped blowing cold air again. We called Fahrenheit and they sent a tech to investigate. The tech mentioned that our unit was using an extremely high volume of Freon and that our system pressure was extremely high (360psi), but assured us that he adjusted the system properly and everything should be okay. The tech did mention that the indoor unit coil may be cracked, however, he would have to do further investigation by taking the cover off and looking at the coil directly. At the end of June, the unit stopped blowing cold air again. My wife called Joe (service manager) and after a long, exhausting, and extremely aggravating conversation, she was informed by Joe ,that he was not coming out to look at our unit unless we agreed to accept a quote and replace our indoor unit. Joe swore that he was “110% positive” that our indoor unit coil was cracked and we needed a whole new unit. As quoted, “No reason for me to come out there just to tell you that you need a new indoor unit, you can just defrost your system yourself, but it will break down again like I told you it would in May”. We are still wondering how Joe knew the inside coli was cracked without looking at it. Looking for further assistance, my wife called the main number looking for Joe’s manager, which happens to also be the owner. The only problem was the receptionist was instructed not to give out the owner’s contact information and she let my wife know she would take her name and number and someone would follow up with her. Please Note: On Fahrenheit’s web site, it clearly states under the “Contact Us” tab: “ Want to speak to an HVAC expert? Just ask for the owner.” After hearing this I contacted Joe directly. Joe again refused to come out and look at our unit to diagnose the problem. He was also extremely unprofessional and insulting. When I mentioned we would be using Horizon to reevaluate our unit condition, he stated “Go ahead. They will charge you triple and then you will come crying back to me (Joe)”. I also asked Joe for the owner’s information and he continued to refuse. I too tried calling the main service number and finally got to Cindy. I explained the situation and how dissatisfied I was with their service. When I asked to talk to the owner or even Joe’s manager, again I was refused. Please also note: I was given a warranty for the outside unit that included a service plan.

Our original recommendation was to remove and replace both the indoor and outdoor systems to increase efficiency and ensure a perfectly matched system when we found the failed outdoor heat pump system. We returned at no charge after a "no cooling" call several months after the outdoor unit was replaced. We originally recommended we would replace the entire indoor unit for a slightly higher cost ($275) than what the customer now paid the new company to just upgrade the aged indoor unit with a part. This still leaves 90% of the old system in place. We do get frustrated as a company when the customer becomes the technical expert and spend more money in the long term and higher utility costs than we originally propose. We did offer the customer many options to maintain them as a customer but they chose to take another direction.

I was working from home on Friday and noticed that my AC unit was running continuously yet my condo wasn't cooling down at all. I started making calls around 4 pm on Friday to find a technician to come out and take a look. After giving some details to a sales rep through an online chat, Joe called me about 20 minutes later. By this point it was after 6 pm and I wasn't expecting anyone to look at the AC over the weekend.I spoke to Joe and he had availability on Saturday afternoon - the very next day! Joe was on time and accomodating - there is a hatch on the thrid floor of my building that leads to the roof. You need a 10 foot ladder to access it - we could only find a 6 foot ladder. Someone, Joe still made it up to the roof, took a number of pictures of my unit and told me that the compressor was shot, the fan was rusted etc. There were limited options (and as a condo building, we have known that the AC units are on their last legs). Note: Several other condos in my building have had issues in the last 2 weeks and their service techs have all recommended replacing the AC units. Those condo owners chose to patch the problem instead of opting for a full replacement however they shared the full replacement estimates with the building. The vendors that the other owners had spoken to had said that they would need to rent a crane to bring the new AC to the roof so this was included in their estimates for the full replacement. Joe gave me some estimates to replace my AC unit, as well as a new touch screen thermostat. He then went and measured the hatch opening again - he was able to get the AC unit through the hatch instead of renting a crane so that saved me about $500. For the service, parts, and speedy response, Fahrenheit's estimates were very competitive (actually they were significantly lower than the other vendors who had visited our building). They were able to do the work on Tuesday (I was unavailable Monday though they were willing to do the work Monday) - I was without AC for only 4 days total. I had no idea how poorly my old AC was functioning until the new one was installed. Good experience and I would recommend them to others, especially my building as they can remove the old unit and install the new one without renting a crane!

Out heating system is less than 5 years old. We called 6 other companies for help and NONE said we needed a new system or had anything broken! We paid $150. to have the present system cleaned and everything is working just fine. What a scam!
Description of Work: Called several companies for a service agreement for our heating system. Fahrenheit promissed to send the agreement in the mail before the appointment. We never received. Jason the head Tech came out and told us that he could not service the existing equipment. There were many things wrong with the boiler and it would not be worth it to clean or fix. We should get a new heating system because this one is very old at least 15 years old and not worth putting the money in to fix. If we would fix it it would cost $2000. We could get a new one for $5000. He then charged us $139.00 and wanted the payment immediately! I did not have a check with me, and promissed to call office with the payment. When I called and questioned the amount since Jason was here for 10 mins and did not service the boiler, he argued with me and assured me the amount I pay will be deducted from a new system. I asked again why I needed to pay for a service agreement when we had none. He then reduced the price to $95. an estimate. We paid the amount.

We appreciate our customers and realize that in their busy schedule they may get confused when 7 different contractors are called for the same problem. We do not have a record of a service plan for you and we do not make it a policy to sell any of our products without a site survey first. We would gladly give a refund ,but we have no record of this transaction and we do not have a technician Jason as an employee. We welcome the consumer to contact us if there is some confusion.

The technician told me that carbon monoxide levels from my furnace were approaching dangerous levels (149 parts per million "and clinmbing") and that if it climbed any higher he'd have to "shut me down". The remedy? A new furnace to the tune of $3300. Alarmed, I called PGW and they came within the hour to test for CO levels and found NOTHING. No CO in the air and very low levels inside the furnace itself. Furthermore, they said my furnace was in perfectly good shape. To their credit, even though I'd signed a work order to replace the furnace, they did cancel it at my request. Final note: Last year this time, I'd had to replace the control board for the furnace and they charged me $850. The PGW guy told me that was much more than they generally cost. I will be canceling my service contract and will never use this company again.
Description of Work: I have an annual service contract with Fahrenheit and they were here to perform my annual heating checkup

Carbon Monoxide levels change constantly depending on temperature and run time. We had our carbon monoxide detectors and scopes checked after this claim. After 25 years in business I stand by our expertise and never condemn other companies or utility personnel. Although in this situation we must protect our reputation and we encountered, as many consumers have, a lack of response, ability, and concern from PGW technicians. We are the equipment experts and have saved the day many times when inexperienced PGW employees have shut off the gas to Member's heating systems due to a lack of truly understanding how these systems operate. They are instructed from their superiors to take the easy sure way out of situations they are not educated in or to eliminate liability. We have brought back to life hundreds of systems PGW has condemned. I have personally interviewed many PGW technicians looking for employment, and have first hand knowledge of their incompetence. There has always been a rivalry between utility employees and independent companies and I challenge any utility technician or any other company to exceed the knowledge or long term reputation of Fahrenheit. We are all sad at Fahrenheit to see a long term customer leave and strongly suggest they have an extensive heat exchanger test performed.

Service man replaced fan for $1200. He was to return to supply a missing part that was not with the new part. This was a screw that would help hold the fan in place. We trusted this occured but within a few months, had problems with A/C. We called company since we did not know what was wrong. They told us the fan was fine but, the screw was still missing so the fan was shaking and would soon break. I called the main office and asked them to supply the missing screw that we trusted was placed on the new fan! They not only ignored my call twice but, billed me for the service call. And to date, never secured the fan!
Description of Work: Replacement of A/C Fan. Estimate was higher but they agreed to fix ASAP.

I feel this customer may be confusing us with another contractor. Our technician noted that this system that was installed by another contractor was low on FREON. A cost to leak test the system and recharge was quoted. Our notes in our system show that the customer wanted to call back the installation contractor who she was not happy with but felt this should be a warranty issue. We completely agreed that the other contractor should be responsible. We quoted, as on all service requests our $39.00 diagnostic fee which she agreed to pay. Upon completion of this service call we were told her husband had taken the check book and she would send in the check. After 5 months of not receiving payment and numerous calls to her, our accounting department sent this outstanding delinquent invoice in for collections. This review followed our collection attempts.

In 2006 I won $1,183.52+ $63.50 costs representing myself against Fahrenheit s lawyers in Civil Court, BUT Fahrenheit s lawyers filed an appeal in District Court which is much more complex, physically further & very costly & confusing for me. I need a lawyer to take them on but I will end up paying more than I get from Fahrenheit. Although I have filed a new complaint myself & served them in District Court, it is becoming too complex for me to continue without legal representation. Fahrenheit has its own lawyers. My total costs including the payment they haven't made for my "win" have now exceeded $2,000. I doubt I will recover anything from them.
Description of Work: Bought $229 Preferred Service Plan. Plan Guaranteed Free Emergency Service/Discounts on Parts/Expert Techs etc. 1st year water damaged expensive Control Board. Tech said condensation, sold Dye Test, replacement parts, etc. Paid over $900.00. In 2nd year paid $229 for Plan. Board damaged each time there was heavy rain. After 2nd repair I checked Parts costs with many competitors (Un-Discounted). Found systematic overcharges. Complained & was told to get repairs done elsewhere; I did. Problem fixed cheaper than quoted by Fahrenheit. Hasn't re-occurred. A/C annual maintenance paid for & not done. Dye test paid for & not done. They scheduled techs twice. My wife took 2 days off work to be there. After they didn't turn up 2nd time I called. Owner had instructed office to continue making appointment without any intention of keeping them. I asked for a refund of the unused balance of Plan. Owner refused. I asked for a refund of Parts overcharges. Owner refused.

Unfortunately this customer did not pay their bill.. We tried to work out payment arrangements but it was necessary to have our collection lawyers handle the bad debt. The cost documented was the amount due us. We were threatened with this type action. We hope this slander does not deter others from using our 25 year old company and hope that Angie s list will be able to correct this flaw in their system to prevent others from using their forum for the wrong reasons. It is unfortunate we were never paid and lost a customer.
