Initially Paul Jr and his crew did a great job, however the quality of the work quickly fell apart in the following weeks. Despite multiple requests to fix the shoddy workmanship, and after referring him 2x for new jobs with friends, Paul Jr continued to ghost me. Now I have to spend thousands more to fix the job. I’ve seen similar reviews to this affect. Bring your money and relationships elsewhere, save yourself the hassle.

Very happy with the work. Paul was easy to work with and he explained the process throughout the whole project. He took the time to address any concerns my wife and I had during the work. Final product met our expectations. Would hire again if another project were to come up.

Paul is difficult to get a hold of. They did a great job on the front patio BUT they did not clean up after themselves well. My entire driveway was full of dirt that should have been cleaned up before they left. Unfortunately we weren't able to get to clean it up ourselves until a few days later but it would come off with the hose so we had to power wash as it was embedded after driving on it. Also my husband didn't notice that they took a chunk of asphalt out when they removed the old patio and they should have repaired this before they left as well but they left the hole for us to repair. Paul's contract said that they don't cover any "landscaping" but this is not landscaping and should have been repaired by them at the end of the job.

Description of Work: We contracted with Paul & Sons to do a stamped concrete patio. First of all the patio is 9' shorter than it was supposed to be and he wouldn't fix. His men were rude. The job was in 3 sections and each section is a different color. It is already chipping, cracking and peeling. The section around the pool is a complete mess, it was painted incorrectly. We have repeatedly called and he says "I'll be there" and NEVER shows up.

The work was to begin end of April, beginning of May. When I did not hear from him, I called the first week of June asking for a start date or return of my deposit. He came June 13th. He has skill in framing and pouring concrete, however, his late response and additional work and cost that he caused overshadows him. Part of the process includes laying a dust on the concrete to age the color. He said he would return in two weeks to wash in off, power wash the siding, and seal it. About a week subsequent to this I phoned him because heavy rains were expected and the dust was tracking in the house and blowing up on the siding. He said the rain would not hurt it, and if I wanted to sweep the dust away, I could. So, after washing the siding, sweeping the dye/dust, and personally buying and hauling 10 40lb bags of top soil, I thought; something is wrong with this picture. I called, emailed with no response. It is now July 4th weekend and the front of my house is an embarrassment. I had no idea he would tear up my lawn. The top soil I bought in didn't even put a dent in it. I had to order at $106, 3 yards of topsoil, pay workers $200 to spread it. Incidentally, when I saw what damage he was doing to my front lawn, I canceled the ramp on the side of the house, for which he credited me a whopping $60. When I speak to him about these issues, he has an explanation for everything. He does not accept responsibility. He is not responsible for the landscaping, he can't help it because of the rain. If he had started the work when he said he would, the rain would not have been an issue and this job a distant memory and his checking account a bit larger. He doesn't say anything like, "I'm sorry, I'm late, the work got backed up, let me compensate you for your inconvenience." I contracted the job for $3,275. I still owe $400, but I haven't heard from him, the sealing is not done, and I have done most of the other work and must payout at least $300 to repair my lawn. I feel strongly, I should have contracted with one of the other bids even if it was higher. Maybe the job would be complete, my lawn in tack; as well as my back.

Response from Paul & Sons General Contracting
I would like to respond by reviewing [Member Name Removed]. Where to even begin?? Well at first impression you would think her @##$%^%$# don't stink. I first gave [Member Name Removed] an estimate as she stated in April of this year. While accepting this job I attempted to hand her check back, explaining to her that we take great pride in our work and that she should only hire us if she has trust in the fact we will provide to her the quality work she deserves. She then explained she wished to proceed. Upon acceptance I then provided her with details some of which are spelled out very specifically on the proposal / contract such as no landscaping . I also explained to her and forwarded her information in regards to the sealing process of stamped concrete. The day we started which was in beginning of May as she stated. We proceeded by jack hammering the existing concrete, which was assumed to be 4" thick but ended up 10" thick. [Member Name Removed] comes out of her home VERY upset telling us she wants us to do this more quietly and that she was extremely upset. We explained how this was not possible and she quietly walked back in. We had been on a job the day prior and the people were so nice it was a97 degrees out and they were more than happy to keep you hydrated despite us having our own drinks. [Member Name Removed] is nothing short of the customer from **** not so much as a drip from her. I think using her hose to revive a passed out co worker would have been an issue. Despite her disgruntled demeanor she still deservers quality work . We then finished demo for a next day pour. The next day was a complete copy of the previous day. Pouring is now complete. I explain, again the process of sealing which requires moister to vacate the concrete which is typical when anything is to be applied to fresh poured concrete surface. The information can be found on a web sight ( Concrete Network) The sealer manufacturer recommendations are min. 28 days after pour. [Member Name Removed] was not grasping this as she continued to call and email within the first week after pouring. It was explained many times. Long story short is .... Angie's List should let contractors review and grade there customers. Most contractors including Paul & Sons are in business to provide quality work at a fair price and some customers like [Member Name Removed] cannot and will not be pleased regardless of quality or care. I give [Member Name Removed] a "Z" in regards to quality as a person, respect for others and common courtesy. We are sorry to have to write a review of this nature as most customers are as pleasant as the other ones describe in this review. Thanks again to all of our previous customers we appreciate your patronage.

The water drainage system did not work. As a result, water got under the driveway and caused it to crack. Paul Mauro, the owner, refused to fix the problem without additional payment. We took him to district court and won a partial judgement which Paul refused to pay. His solution to the problem was to close his business down to avoid paying us the judgement. He has the intention to open under a different name. He was very difficult to get a hold of and when we did he was very rude and obnoxious and when he couldn't get his way he hung up on us. Be careful using any company owned by Paul Mauro.

Response from Paul & Sons General Contracting
We would like to respond to the review by first; letting people know that it is our FIRST & FOREMOST goal to provide nothing but quality work. It is also our goal to please each and every customer, as it is this reputation that has kept Paul & Sons General Contracting, LLC in business for many years. [Member name removed] came to us with an existing plan for a French drain, which was created by a PREVIOUS contractor. We had given [Member name removed] two options; 1. Would be to drain to daylight, 2. The other was his design. Despite our company’s recommendation, [Member name removed] chose/insisted to use HIS design based upon “him getting in arguments with the neighbor living behind him; therefore draining water anywhere near the neighbor, would be a problem”. Come forth, after executing the work, as per [Member name removed]’s plan, “the water issue had went away, but does not drain quickly enough on a heavy downpour”; as we suspected it wouldn't. Hence the reason for recommending to drain to daylight. As stated above, we aim to please each & every customer. Despite the fact that this was [Member name removed]’s design, we have contacted [Member name removed] in regards to extending this to daylight, free of charge. [Member name removed] had agreed. Our company purchased the additional materials; regrettably, the day we were to install, [Member name removed] refused our services. [Member name removed] is presently using the system we originally installed. We charged [Member name removed] $950.00 to install his system as per plan, which was the cost to install. [Member name removed] wanted the same contractor to do the drain along with the driveway. We have provided pictures of [Member name removed]’s driveway, to show the quality of our work. We believe “A picture is worth a thousand words”. We are complacent to service [Member name removed] as a happy & pleased customer. Thereupon, will ensure future business. .Please see the [Member name removed] PORTFOLIO

Great, see above review.
Description of Work: Removed old, severely cracked driveway, dug out and extended it on 2 sides. He replaced with new concrete as well as redo entire backyard patio with perimeter concrete footings. I had several previous contractors out for estimates and was not impressed by them. As soon as I met Paul, I knew he was the man for the job. I could tell immediately that he was quality and would do a proper job--no short cuts or skimping. He also uses a quality concrete mix, higher psi. It took 4 days to complete everything and looks amazing. Professional in every way. He answered all my questions and educated me on maintenance. In addition, Paul was very easy to work with and a nice guy. I also like the fact that he owns the company and was on the job as well.

I contacted Paul and Sons in the fall of 2012 to get info on a back patio. I spoke directly to Paul and he promptly came to my home to give me an estimate. After I approved the estimate Paul immediately gave me my options for my patio such as color and decorative stamp. Once I told Paul what I wanted he started working on my patio. I was very impressed by the quality of workmanship by Paul and his workers. My family and I are extremely happy that we finally have a patio in which we can have a BBQ and host a party on. I would recommend Paul and Sons to any person looking for cement work.

We originally hired Paul to replace one set of steps in the back. When we saw how nice the work was we decided to do the second set of steps in the back. Then we decided that they looked so nice we put in a patio connecting the two sets of steps. Adding on to the job in midstream never fazed Paul. Paul and his workers were always on time. They demolished the old steps with a minimum of mess. They poured the concrete efficiently without spilling any on the lawn, and they cleaned up everything promptly. The patio and steps were exactly what we wanted and the price was reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend Paul's work to anyone. They were efficient, prompt, and courteous and the price was fair. If you need concrete work done, Paul would be an excellent choice!

The owner Paul came out the next day after calling for an estimate. The following day I received an email and a phone call discussing my estimate. My work was scheduled the following week. I had a slight problem with an area that cracked and Paul came out within a few days and fixed the area. Perfect Paul was very professional and answered every question my husband and I had.
Description of Work: I had a half patio and a driveway path put in.
Paul kept all appointments and was always on time. He was very accommodating, and his prices were really reasonable. He and his crew spent much time and effort to dig up roots from a dead tree. It just goes to show what he did to make sure we got a quality job. He did a wonderful job. The stamped patio looks beautiful.
Description of Work: Concrete - sidewalks, driveway, threshold and patio. Stamped the patio. They also had to dig up an enormous amount of roots to properly do the sidewalks.
