Description of Work: I called the provider and told him about some unexplained neatly piled twigs in my back yard. (I had looked these up on line and they were a type of raccoon nest). He did not seem to take me seriously. He said maybe they were birds nests and just told me to get rid of the nest. I called another provider which was at my house in about an hour and after about a week , 3 raccoons were trapped.

Response from Cappa Wildlife Control Services
I could not in good faith accept money for something that was not in the client's best interest. Raccoons do NOT neatly pile twigs into a nest. The raccoons captured were most likely just "passing through" and were unfortunate enough to get caught. I take each client's concerns seriously, but I will not perform a service or charge a client for something, in my experience, which is unnecessary.

Description of Work: We thought we had a raccoon and it turned out to be a rat. Cappa came and set up traps and refreshed the bait multiple times. He even brought in another person to consult when the rat proved very difficult to catch. He was great and I highly recommend Cappa. I hope I don't need his services in the future but if I do I will call him right away.

During inspection for our new house, we found that some animal was or was previously nesting in the attic. I called Pete prior to closing an arranged for him to come out right after closing to investigate. He found an abandoned birds nest. He located the entry point in the attic (hole in the metal mesh over the one attic vent). He replaced/updated the meshing over both attic vents as he felt the other vent was not properly configured. He also removed all nesting material and likely a few bird carcasses (as I found quite a few scattered around the insulation when I re-insulated). We chose to have a professional handle this as we did not know if this was an active nest or not and what type of animal may pop out. Pete was very knowledgeable and seemed to have previous experience with starlings nesting in attics.
Description of Work: Investigated and removed nesting material in attic and sealed attic vents to prevent birds from re-entering.

I got Pete Cappa's name from Angie's List. I called him and he came out that afternoon. We searched the whole basement including above the ceiling panels (those that were still in place). Pete had his leather gloves on and his heavy duty animal grabber in hand, but we never saw or heard the squirrel. Pete set a couple traps but did not expect much from them with trap-shy animal. He said we may be luckier building it an escape route from the basement. We got some boards I had laying around, and Pete screwed a couple together to make a 10 foot ramp up to a window. He screwed cross pieces of wood going up the ramp like little steps. We opened the window a few inches (it swings out from the bottom) and packed rags around most of the open space to keep the frigid air out. We left a space about 4 inches wide on the windowsill at the top of the ramp for the animal to get out. But how would we ever know if he left or died hidden somewhere? Well, we spread about 1/8 inch of whole wheat flour evenly across the windowsill in front of the escape hole (I believe unbleached white would have worked as well). We said our goodbyes and I paid the agreed on amount which seemed very reasonable for the amount of time and travel involved. Later that night I went down into the basement and climbed up to take a look at that windowsill. Sure enough. there were some squirrel-sized tracks heading across the sill and to the outside. At least I was pretty sure it was not the tracks of a second squirrel coming in. Anyway, the mayhem in the basement came to an end. I called Pete two days later, and told him it looked like his plan worked. He picked his traps up later that day. Things are now back to normal for my wife and I, and I m off the hook thanks to Pete's wildlife control skills. I hope never to take a quiet and orderly basement for granted again.
Description of Work: My wife and I had had a grey squirrel in out basement for over a week. It created one heck of a mess, it scared me one time when cornered, and we simply could not get rid of it. It would not go near a Have-a-heart trap. In a nutshell, Pete came to our home and made it possible for the critter to escape the basement and get back outside.

I did not use Cappa. They referred me to A to Z Wildlife Services.
Description of Work: I contacted Cappa for a bat problem in my attic. I did not get a call back from Cappa, but they contacted another company A to Z Wildlife Removal and had they return my call. I thought this was great service. When Jeff from A to Z returned my call, he explained that Pete would not be able to handle my problem quickly and asked him to get back to me. I checked A to Z on Angie's list and found the same stellar reviews that I found for Cappa. I did use A to Z Wildlife Service and was satisfied. See report under A to Z Wildlife Service. Cappa could have ignored my call since they were so busy, but they did not. They took the time to have another company get in touch with me. I would recommend either company in the future.

I noticed huge holes in my backyard and didn't know what was causing these holes. Then one day I saw a groundhog going in and out of one of the holes. I called Pete Cappa, whose number I got from Angie's List, to have the animal removed. He called me back the same day. We made arrangements to have him come to my home the following day to set traps. He evaluated the situation and set up traps accordingly. I was asked by Pete to call him when I saw activity in the traps which I did. There were actually 3 groundhogs that were in the traps. Pete came and removed them within hours of my calling him even though he was set to leave on vacation that afternoon. Then a few weeks later I saw another groundhog in my yard. I called Pete and he came the very next day to set traps. He trapped and removed 1 groundhog. On both occasions Pete was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He was always prompt with returning my calls and keeping appointments. He was also very prompt in coming to remove the animals once I let him know they were in the traps. Both times Pete fixed all the damage the groundhogs had done to my property and it actually looked better than it had originally. Price was very reasonable. I will definitely call him again if I have any more problems and highly recommend him without hesitation.
Description of Work: Trapped and removed 4 groundhogs from my property. Three were removed July 2013 and another one August 2013.

I called another pest company when I saw droppings on my deck. I thought I had a mouse. However the other company said it was a bat, and used a broom to pull the side of the canvas awning away from the house & the bat was there. They said they did not take care of bats. I then called CAPPA, and Pete returned my call the same day. He was at my house the next morning. He inspected my attic and thankfully no bats were inside the house. He used a metal can with a vented lid & easily captured the bat hiding between the brick on the house & the awning. He positioned the sides of the awning for me to help deter the bats from returning there. Pete was very professional, knowledgeable, and skilled in his trade. I would definitely use him again & would highly recommend him.

Mother raccoon never caught. He thought she may have died somewhere else. He removed two raccoon pups , and told us hot to feed birds as the raccoon need a food source and water. We have to get someone else to clean up attic damage. Our Erie insurance does not cover it.
Description of Work: He identified the cause-raccoon. He put a cage on deck with no results%, then built a cage where raccoon entered the house on soffit. He entered our attic several times and caged two raccoon pups, removed them and removed the cage and closed the hole in soffit then returned again and rechecked the attic for any activity. He told us to call anytime if there was any activity in attic. Discussed preventative measures for future. At my request he Took pictures of attic insulation ruined by raccoons living there.

After a few days living in our new house, we started to hear a loud scratching sound coming from the coat closet wall in our living room. This wasn't a scurrying sound, the sound came from the same place over and over and it was loud, and to us, sounded big. We called Pete Friday morning, and we came out that evening. By the time he arrived, the scratching had stopped and actual never started up again. After looking around the base of the house, he put a ladder on our roof, and informed us there was a hole in the roof, and that some wildlife (he thought maybe a bird or squirrel) may have gained access to our house through the hole. (How this was missed by our home inspector, I have no idea!) Pete said he could tell this house used to have a squirrel problem, because the holes edges were chewed up but that the chew marks were not fresh, and looked weather. He suggested putting a piece of plastic over the hole, and he let us know if a squirrel was using it as a den, it would chew through the plastic. He told us he would come back Sunday to check the plastic. If it was chewed, we then would have to set some traps. Fortunately Sunday, the scratching noise had not returned and nothing chewed through the plastic. Pete sealed the hole to prevent any other wildlife from getting into our house. We don't want anything crawling in their and giving birth. Since this was our first time using this kind of service, the initial consult price was a little bit of sticker shock for us. He charged $170 just for the initial visit, where he basically just scoped the property to figure out the problem. The follow-up Sunday with the hole patch was an additional $50.
Description of Work: Pete came out to our new home to help us investigate scratching sound coming from inside of our wall.

Clients should understand that this is a 2 day process. Just by talking to him, he told me I had racoons and I thought I had birds. He came the next day. He put a hormone on a tennis ball and lowered it and came back the next day. He got rid of them in a very eco-friendly way, he did not kill them. He also made a wire tent on the top of my chimney so they wouldn't come in again. He cleaned my chimney also.

Came out to the south hills and set 4 traps for a Squirrel I had nesting in my attic/gutter area. It was making all kinds of noise. Caught it with in hours. called him and he came out again the next day and removed it and reset the traps. When he hadnt heard he showed up on a Sunday to check the traps again. Climbed in an checked my crawl space for babies and gave the clear sign but still left the traps for 2 more days to make sure before coming to collect them. Very professional and would highly recommend.

It was a success! Pete even installed chimney caps and cleaned out the chimney flue area. We hope to not have a problem like this again, but if we do Pete will be the first we call.
Description of Work: Pete was absolutely wonderful! We contacted him Saturday afternoon about a suspected raccoon and babies in our chimney. He arrived as scheduled on Monday to assess the situation, explained to us what he thought was the best plan to try, answered our questions and got to work. I had squirrels in my attic which I was hearing every morning. I called a couple of places but I went with Pete because he seemed the most professional and best priced. I called him on a Friday and he set up an appointment with me on Sunday. On the phone he asked me about what I was hearing and other details and told me what he thought. On Sunday he came right on time and spent over an hour looking in the attic (from inside the house) and around the entire perimeter of the house. I was really impressed because he found a hole where the squirrels were entering but he didn't stop looking. He continued to look around the hole house which was good because he found a second hole. He set up traps (two traps near each hole). The first day we caught one squirrel. He came the next morning to pick it up. He said it was a female and he saw two young squirrels nearby so he estimated that we would have two more to catch. The following day we caught another squirrel which, again, he picked up the following day. We went out of town for a few days but he still came by every day to check the traps. In total, we caught three squirrels. When Pete was confident that we caught all the squirrels that were using our house as a den, he patched up both holes. His pricing was incredibly reasonable. He charged $160 for the initial inspection, setting up traps and for patching the holes at the end. He charged $40 for each animal that was caught/removed. Plus tax.
Description of Work: Phone consultation. Came by to inspect entire house (inside and out) for possible entry of squirrels. Set traps (4 total). Came by to pick up animals and reset traps. Patched holes when all animals were caught.

They were expensive. I think they charged $150 just for coming out and $50 for each animal that they caught. I think I paid about $300 totally. They were really nice, but they were really expensive. They were really punctual. They came out the very next day after I had called them. I will use them again only if I need to.

Contacted Pete as a first time customer. He was responsive and arrived quickly and as promised. He reviewed a video of the animal captured by my daughter and identified the animal as a flying squirrel. He set a number of live traps around the house. Within a day or two one of the traps sprung but failed to trap the animal. I called and Pete responded the same day. He reset the trap and inspected the house to see if he could find the animal. He found the squirrel in the chimney and after taking apart part of the flue dampener, he was able to live capture the animal and remove it. Pete took extra steps to evaluate how the squirrel entered the house. He completed the job by installing professional looking screens at the top of the chimney (impressive given 3+ stories up and on a very steep pitched roof). I was very satisfied with the service.

Pete Cappa came the following week as scheduled along with his son who helps him with bat issues. After inspecting the attics again, he was able to shoo away the bats still roosting in the vents and he installed the screens over all three vents. One vent in the front of the house had a couple of stubborn bats which he hadn't expected - he had already installed the exterior screen and had to undo a corner of it and prod them to leave. It took a while, but between Pete and his son, they finally got the remaining bats to leave and secured all the screens. I found Pete to be very professional, detail oriented, and very knowledgeable. He was very thorough in cleaning the guano as well. He had painted the screens to match our house trim and you can't even tell they are installed. He also cares very deeply about bats and their welfare. We discussed having him install a bat house on our house in the spring as an alternate home for them as they are very beneficial in keeping the insect population in check. I would recommend him highly.
Description of Work: We found out that we had bats in our attic. We had recently had an attic stair access put in during the summer and we were installing an attic vent cover over the opening when my husband spotted some movement by one of the attic vents and then he could see about 10 bats there. He shut the attic and we called Cappa Wildlife about our situation. After asking us some questions, Cappa told us they could come that week but suggested we go out at dusk over the next few nights to observe where the bats were exiting from. They said this would be helpful in pinpointing what was going on. Over the next few nights, we were able to see that the bats were coming out of one of our ridge vents so we assumed that there might be a hole in the interior screen. A few days later Pete Cappa came to do a full attic inspection. We have two attics and he checked both. He found that the bats were roosting between the louvers of the vent and the interior screen in one attic but they weren't actually inside the attic. There was guano (bat feces) noted inside the attic. He told us the best thing to do was to have exterior screens installed to all ridge vents after getting the bats excluded to prevent this from happening in the future. He also agreed to clean up the guano in the attic.

We initially called a well-known company we had worked with in the past for this samem problem. They asked for a $400 deposit over the phone before any work would be scheduled, and couldn't tell us when they would be out to take care of the problem. We found Cappa Wildlife Control Services website online and called them on 9/29/11 and asked for an estimate. Mr. Cappa quoted us $160 and said that he could be out the next day. He then looked at his schedule again and decided he could be at our home that afternooon. He showed up in about an hour, and quickly removed the dead mouse and also some old nests he found in the same space. He had to remove the baseboard to get at the carcass, and took the board outside to keep the house clean. He cleaned up the room perfectly, and even swept the front porch of the small wood chips from the baseboard. He was professional, courteous and gracious. He will be the first company we call for any future problems like this, and we will definitely recommend him to anyone else who has this need.
Description of Work: We had a dead mouse behind the wall of our powder room. Mr. Cappa removed the mouse and also some old nests he found in the same space. He carefully removed and replaced the baseboard to get at the mouse and cleaned up thoroughly afterward.

Overall, all went well, but I thought $80 was a bit pricey, considering it took him 5 minutes to complete the job. The other issue I had was that he tried to charge me more. Under normal circumstances, this company retrieves animals and then automatically euthanizes them. When I asked if he could leave the groundhog with me so that I could take him to the Rehab as opposed to taking it with him, he objected pretty strongly. He said that he'd have to charge me $150 and then come back to pick up the cage. I told him that I wanted him to put the animal in my cat carrier and asked why it would be more labor intensive for him to leave the animal with me then to take it with him. He had no answer for this, and then just said that he knows it's illegal in PA to relocate a wild animal and that the Rehab would just euthanize him. When I took the animal to the rehab, I found out that an animal can be relocated within the same county and that they were going to do everything they could to rehabilitate the groundhog.
Description of Work: I found an injured groundhog in my yard and wanted to take him to the Animal Rescue League's Wildlife Rehab. The Rehab doesn't retrieve animals, however, and I had neither the skills nor tools to pick him up and get him in my cat carrier.

Pete, the company owner, was great. He came out and did the inspection himself. He reassured us that we do not have bats residing in our attic, but we do have vents where we have seen them roosting. He suggested covering the vents with screen. He painted the screen and screws to match the vents. He did an EXCELLENT job. The screens are barely visible and well-secured. We are confident bats and other rodents will not be able to get in through the vents. He was punctual, did exactly what he said he was going to do, and the price quote was exact. He also gave advice on removal of wasp and hornet nests. I would highly recommend Cappa Wildlife Control Services.
Description of Work: Inspection for bats in the attic of our home. This involved inspecting the perimeter of the house, looking into attic vents with a video camera and then actually crawling through the large, difficult to access attic on the hottest day of the summer. Screens installed to cover attic vents to keep bats and other rodents out.

Response from Cappa Wildlife Control Services
It is illegal for anyone that holds a wildlife removal license to release a captured groundhog anywhere they want within the county In other words, a professional wildlife control operator can NOT capture an animal and drive down the road to the local park and release the animal. Any wildlife control operator that holds a license in the state of Pa will not relocate a captured animal. It is illegal.

In the late fall I saw several bats hanging on a vent in my attic and was concerned that I might have a colony. Due to Christmas etc. I didn't call an inspector until January (I'm not very squeamish about rodents, even flying ones). He told me over the phone that an inspection would be $129.00. Mr. Cappa came out today. He called ahead to confirm the appointment and arrived exactly on time. He went up into the attic. When he came down he reported that there were no bats, and no signs of significant bat presence previously. He said the ones I saw were probably migrating and just resting for a day, not taking up residence. Because he said it was so clear that there was no problem, he charged me just $75 for the inspection, instead of the $129 he had originally quoted. And I got considerable peace of mind, as bat removal can be VERY expensive. He was also great with my dog. I was very pleased, and would highly recommend this company.
