We never heard from him to give us the estimate.
Description of Work: I had him come out to our house for an estimate to add an addition. He did come over and check out what we wanted done and that was the last time I heard from him. Not very professional at all.

The overall experience was excellent. The price and quality were excellent. He was punctual, responsive, and professional. If I had any major remodeling I needed done, he is the first person I would call.
Description of Work: G. M. Nelson Construction added a sun-room. It measures about 14 ft. x 26 ft.

The service or estimate was never preformed and I was never told why so I had to assume the job was to small even though it was an addition of average room size so I can not accept anyone that does not respect me enough to call back and explain himself. If this is his beginning attitude what am I in for?
Description of Work: I first met Mr Nelson at the spring home show at Erie Convention Center, he had a very impressive desplay and we talked about my plan to put a 10X20ft addition on my cape cod house. So when i called and made an appointment I was excited to learn what his opinion and knowledge he could bring to the table. He show up as planned and I showed him around the house and was a little let down when he did not give any of his own ideas other than to make it bigger than the already installed concrete foot print (it has a 10X20ft porch currently and I want to use the concrete pad to save on the cost) I also said I could remove the porch structure as an additional savings and he agreed. Before leaving he did some measuring and took pictures. I ask him if he could give me a computer sketch and I was supprised when he said "i dont use computers and dont know how to (noticed he had no web site or email that seemed odd to me to be in business without that) Anyways as he left he said he would make a hand sketch and get back to me in two weeks well its almost a month and he never called once, apparently he didnt tell me that he has a specific size job he accepts and if you dont have a large enough job he goes through the motions and lets you waste two weeks to find out. He needs to state that (I DONT DO $X SIZE JOBS) at the next home show or over the phone and/or tell the customer at the time of the visit.

In the beginning, things seemed to go well.. They showed up on time (actually a day or two early, which was ok), and began preparing for the foundation. At the time our children were very young, and were very excited to see "Digger Man" come with his tractor and dig the footer. The day the footer was poured was a rainy one and very messy. One of the men decided to stand in the wet concrete without the proper foot coverings and suffered chemical burns on his legs that kept him from working for several weeks. He appeared on the job just in time to custom-build the fireplace mantle, which was beautiful. I didn't realize it then, but this set them back, which in turn caused other jobs to be rushed. I believe at the time, they were also doing jobs for a Parade of Homes. We weren't in any rush for them to be finished. We just wanted a beautiful addition like our friends. As long as they were done by Thanksgiving, we were fine. It was April when they started. Gordon seemed to always be in a hurry, selecting materials without consulting us, and stating that if we wanted something different, we would have to pay a restocking fee. Namely second story dormer windows and garage doors. The triple casement window in our family room was installed, but was not to our satisfaction, and still isn't. Each time the sill was refinished, it was worse than before, so we just gave up. One of the expectations that I made very clear up front was that I didn't want to be able to look at the roof and see where the addition began. After the roof was tied in, it was obvious where it was. When I inquired about it, he said that would cost more money to redo it. Again another disappointment. When it came time for the drywall finishing of the first floor family room, his drywall finishers were unavailable, so one of his general laborers did it and it shows. The first year a crack appeared where new met old, and a number of screws were not sufficiently covered with compound and subsequently showed themselves. Overall, the addition looks fine from the outside, but it was a lesson learned.
Description of Work: We hired Mr.Nelson to construct a 2-story addition to our home, which included a 2 car garage and family room on the ground floor and three bedrooms and a bath on the second floor, thereby doubling our square footage. The garage and family room were completely finished, the second floor was roughed in, and the entire project was finished to the exterior. We did the wiring, plumbing, and insulation ourselves. On the advice of friends, for whom Nelson had built a magazine-worthy kitchen addition, we hired him to do our addition. His prices were reasonable, and we felt confident that he would give the same attention to detail to our project as he had our friends'. Our initial meeting with him was fine, and he asked what we wanted him to do for us. We had done some amateur sketches of what we wanted. (In retrospect, I should have been suspicious that he didn't have any suggestions as to how to improve upon it. We later changed a roofline that we believe should have been suggested by the builder.. Neither of us are architects.) He also supplied a list of other jobs he had done, and we spent an afternoon checking them out.Everything we looked at seemed impressive. We were disappointed in the end.
