Description of Work: He worked on it for over an hour and finally had to turn the job over to Reigle Electric who completed it. He did everything he could and I was amazed that he didn't charge me labor for the time spent! I will definitely call him again if needed.

Description of Work: First of all the job was completed on time and the quality of the workmanship was excellent. The price to Bert ($3235) was only labor, tile was around $1,300, and the glass shower enclosure was close to $2,000. Time involved to install all was about 2 1/2 days. We were removing a shower enclosure and replacing it with tiled walls and a quality enclosure we purchased from Lowe's. That's a perfect job for a handyman. Problem is Bert is not a handyman, he's a salesman. First he explained he doesn't do tile and would bring in a guy he uses to do tile work. Well, the "tile guy" was just a salesman too. Only when the job started did we learn who was doing the work. Fortunately, the two young guys that did the work did a fine job but I felt deceived as to who we were hiring to do the work. If you have two salesmen involved in a handyman job you are likely paying too much and I am sure we did. Also, Burt suggested we go to "ProSource" to order the tile. I should have gone to Lowe's because ProSource managed to screw up the order, made mistakes, and if you need one more tile than a full box you are stuck with buying a second box that will set on a shelf in the garage for the next 100 years. The ProSource environment was friendly but I would not order anything from there again.

Response from Bert's Handyman Service
In response to the comments made by the customer I would like to say that I started out doing this handyman business on a small scale fixing leaky faucets, doing small odds and ends that people either couldn't do themselves or they just needed a hand. Over the last 6 years the business has grown quite a bit and due to my limited availability as I am working a full time day job, I began to team up with a small number of good sub-contractors in order to try and meet my customers needs. So yes, I did sell this job to the customer through one of my sub-contractors as I am not a tile master. Regarding the price being too high, I offered to back out of the picture and suggested they deal directly with my sub-contractor which would save them money. I had regular communication with Mr Haythorn via phone & email from beginning to end of this job. He wanted me to continue with the project through my company since he had started with me. My sub-contractor did inform Mr Haythorn of the men who would be actually doing the work. I am sorry that Mrs Haythorn felt deceived however, 99% of all communication was done through Mr Haythorn so I had no idea that she would not have know this. Since this job was completed I have been trying to give more referrals to customers rather than sub-contracting them out when I have more work than I can handle or just don't have the skills to do a particular project. The tile supplier did mess things up a bit on some of the ordering I will admit. Thank you for your honesty Mrs Haythorn. Looking through all my reports there are only a couple reviews that were not favorable however, I think comments like these are helping me make the decision to go back to the roots of just helping people out in need doing the small jobs and leaving the bigger jobs to the bigger companies. Thank you again for your honesty the customer.
