Unlike the other review, I have to say Bob Merchant was wonderful, kind and always returned my calls. Also, I am not sure how many estimates they got--but this estimate BY FAR was substantially MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE than any other estimate...about half the cost of all others...ANd, when my color could not be found--Bob suggested I try Sherwin Williams paint--which is what they eneded up using. Further, I was in the process of refinancing my home, and Bob Merchant was fantastic and very kind--he worked with my schedule delays so that I could afford the exterior painting. He also came out to give paint suggestions about the color. I agree with the other reviewer that the job done by the painters--who --although were very nice, was not the best in the world. I also had overspray that remains on my deck and porch... they destroyed several of my plants, with their ladder placement, and I didn't appreciate that they painted over several items such as the outside lighting bases, the faucets. flag pole bases. I had been told those would be removed. They made the outdoor flood light break, because they sprayed it so it could not be adjusted. It cracked when I tried to put the bulb back into the correct position...so I still have to get that fixed/replaced. I also was told by Bob and the person who did the pressure washing that the painters would rehang the items that needed removed--that also never happened. I have a flower box and a few other items that need re-hung. The painters also washed the paint etc, in my yard, got paint on my porch floor...this was in addition to the overspray they got on the deck....(I still need to get it removed, as I plan to stain my deck--and have the stain waiting--just need goo weather). Because of them washing the items out where they did, the grass died, and I had two bushes that also sustained damage from the paint or other chemicals. The painters again were very nice, but when the neighborhood kids came over, some of the language they used ..which did not offend me...really should not have been used around the kids. Would I use them again, yes, they were affordable, and Bob Merchant was just a very nice guy to deal with.

HORRIBLE!!! All smiles and roses until you try to coordinate work and then became worrisome. Promised I would be notified as I wanted to be on-premise (and have that legal right as a homeowner) then, when he eventually got around to doing the work (and, to be FAIR the weather was terrible, so delays were expected!) flew in under the radar and did a quick (according to the neighbors) one and a half hour, one man, incomplete, blotchy job. Did not use primer or a two-in-one. Overspray on all my bushes, flowers and some windows. Left two buckets of paint sitting in boiling sun. Neighbor had to go over and turn off the hose which was left spraying in the yard. Sprayed directly over peeling paint on shutters, which were to be wire brushed, did not patch siding dings as promised, and did not paint trim white as specified on contract...did not paint trim at all. He also did not coordinate with the gutter replacement company; I spent a good amount of time on the phone with both trying to ensure this. I do not believe this was the fault of the gutter company, in the end. I called him to see when/if they were coming back to finish. He said they would be back. I told him I thought he should really be present to see what the problems were; I also inquired as to the quality of the materials he used and application methods. A bird had pooped on the siding and it etched the paint when removed with a plain water rinse; he explained that bird poop was acidic (which everyone knows) and it would leave marks...not true if done correctly; the original paint was there over forty years and had never had etchings from poop! He became very defensive and said his painter would be back Monday; he refused to come out. He was condescending and trying very hard to be intimidating. At this point he was actually very NASTY. Painter came back Monday (nice guy), fixed some dings and brushed painted them. Installed new outside lights as promised. Did not do trim; I did not even push issue. At this point I wanted to be DONE with this company. Bottom line, I would have paid more to have the job done right. I would never do business with Bob Merchant again. He advertises he uses Glidden Paints, which I like- however, if I were the Glidden Company I would ask him to not use their products as he actually makes them look bad. Pennsylvania must hand out contractor licenses indiscriminately because this man should not be in business. Terrible job and terrible person to try to work with. Read the fine print, or lack thereof...not true to what he tells you verbally. Buyer beware!!!

possibly THE most unscrupulous person i have ever met. Not only would he not use the better paints that the customers were charged for, but would actually have the paint store remove the labels so the customers would not see the brand or type of material. He sells " 2 coat coverage" to them, that means 2 passes with the spray gun at one time. was in business as Aluminu-Refinishing Co.until the complaints and threatened lawsuits over unperformed warranty work necessitated a name change. The callous way in which vulnerable senior citizens were taken advantage of, manipulated and lied to was sickening. How could he possibly get away with this for so long? His brother is a Detective with the Erie, Pa Police Dept. I have never met anyone who got so much pleasure out of " getting over " on someone. I believe he has a serious mental issue(s) . I would advise anyone thinking about doing business with them to check them out thoroughly yourself....Not the company supplied references but ask your friends and neighbors about "Alumi-New", Alumi-Nu, Etc.
Description of Work: worked for them (him) 1994-2001 as painter, crew leader and sometime complaint department
