I was charged $99 for a diagnostic fee despite my system being left in a worse condition than before he arrived, and no fix was made. Update: I contacted the service manager about this issue, and he sent me a check for the $99, but he marked it as a "non-payment" instead of a refund, meaning that if I wanted to use Mitchell's services in the future, I would need to repay this "debt" of $99 before scheduling any other work. For this reason, I will no longer use Mitchell’s services for anything I may need in the future. When I need something to be repaired, I expect that repair to be completed, or at least an estimate provided (for labor and parts) for the additional work beyond the diagnosis of what it would take to adequately repair the issue. I received neither in this case, and so this $99 diagnostic fee should have been waived.
Description of Work: My central air conditioning had been experiencing a minor condensation leaking issue, which I suspected to be a faulty condensation drip pan. I told the repair tech this, and he took apart some pieces of the exhaust pipe from my furnace to check it. He confirmed that the drip pan should be replaced, but stated that there weren't any replacement drip pans available at this time from the source he referenced. In the end, not only did he not fix anything, but my furnace pipes weren't assembled together properly afterwards, so I need to fix that myself. Instead of a repair, he only offered to have someone call me to schedule an appointment for a free estimate to replace my entire A/C system, but I am not going to do that because I can't afford thousands of dollars for a new system; my existing A/C system still works fine, albeit with the minor condensation leaking issue that I now need to find another way to fix.

They did not change the old thermostat wiring. Over priced for furnace, charged about 3000 for labor due to winter!!!. They should have put new wiring for thermostat so u would not have to change batteries. Called March 2019 as furnace stopped working and told them I replaced the batteries. Call should have been under warranty? Any ways after they spent over a hour+ checking wiring I told them maybe the thermostat is bad (which I think they would check first) they check it and found the batteries did not make contact. Reinserted batteries a few times, furnace worked. Would have been there 10 mins if they checked that first! Charged me over $144 for their time there. Under warranty?

I had Mitchell install a new hot water tank and it was a disappointing experience. The installer used the old copper gas line connection (which I do not believe is up to code) instead of installing a new flex line. The values for H and C are probably 25 years old and those were reused too. I was never asked about getting a new flex line or values, the focus seemed to be on just completing the job as quickly as possible. I have used Mitchell for previous plumbing projects and I do not see me using them again after this experience.

After taking a day off of work I waited ALL DAY for them to show up. Finally showed up almost 1 1/2 hours after the scheduled time with no call to say they would be late. After being at my house for 30 minutes they informed us that they were not able to complete the job they were contracted to do because the water heater was too short and the existing lines did not reach. The installers promised that they would come back with a taller tank and the work would be completed the next day. The next day comes with a phone call that they are going to charge me an $400 to complete the work. ($200 for an "after hours" appointment because I could not take another day off of work and they charge overtime for appointments after 3:00 and $200 for additional lines parts to complete the install because the water heater was " out of the plan".)

They did the work all excellently.? I give them an A rating.? Everything was done to the utmost excellence.? They sent an inspector out and she found the leak in the gas line.? They did an excellent. job.?I have nothing, nothing bad to say about them at all.? Every time they come out, they did more than their share.?They were excellent.? Mitchell's Plumbing and Heating, as far as I'm concerned, are excellent.?They did a few things for me, they patched up walls, they inspected my windows and doors, everything.?They were excellent.? When they said they were coming they never dilly-dallied around.?They came exactly and gave me a call before they came because I don't even have a doorbell.? I asked them to give me a phone call, so they called.?They were polite and everything else.?

Called Mitchell Plumbing on a Sunday because my furnace circulator pump was not working. Because of the weekend they charged $219 for the service call. They confirmed that the problem was the pump. They then proceeded to install the pump and charged me a total of $1,089. Thinking that the pump must be very expensive I paid the charge. The total job took just over an hour(10 minutes of that time was spent on a personal call and the replacement pump had to be re-installed because they incorrectly installed it the first time) The next day I checked with local plumbing supply stores and was told that the pump actual cost was less than $100. Therefore I paid $1,000 for the pump installation which took an hour of time. I called Mitchell Plumbing stating that I believed that I was overcharged-even understanding that a weekend charge would be higher than a weekday charge. I asked for a reduction in price but I was refused. I then asked for an itemized statement that would breakdown all the charges. Mitchell Plumbing again refused. Their statement was "we believe this is a very reasonable charge since we have so many very high overhead costs." I believe that their costs were very unreasonable and would caution anyone from using their services. Their definition of "reasonable costs" may be very different from yours.

We have lived in our home for 9 years and for the majority of that time, our boiler was serviced by Mitchell Plumbing and Heating. They were always expensive but, that seems to be the case with the older homes in our neighborhood. Our last interaction with Mitchell was likely the worst interaction I have ever had (and continue to have) with a service provider. Our boiler?s pressure was exceeding the recommended limit. As such, the relief valve would trigger and drain into a bucket. We called Mitchell to fix the problem. After a $120 fee just to show up, they quoted an ?All Day Job? at $895. When the day came to perform the work, Mitchell showed up 2 hours later than expected and work for only 45 minutes and claimed they fixed the problem. I called with questions and was told that I had no recourse for my complaint. Only 10 days later, the very problem is back again. We called their 24 hour service and received no call back. We were told that there is no service commitment to call us back. Over the years, I have likely spent thousands of dollars with Mitchell. Why Mitchell Plumbing would (1) over-quote me for an ?All Day Job,? and (2) not credit me when the job only took 45 minutes and (3) not properly perform the job, and (4) not stand by their work is unacceptable. I asked to speak with Art Mitchell the owner when calling to complain and was told I could not. All I want is for my boiler to work as it did before I started working with Mitchell. If all you want as a homeowner is a fair service provider who performs good work and stands by their work, do not call Mitchell Plumbing and Heating.

Response from Mitchell Plumbing, Heating and Cooling
We are sorry that this customer feels as though he was treated unfairly but the vast majority of this review is either entirely false or exaggerated. Our diagnostic fee is not "just to show up" it is the charge to have trained, licensed, insured, background-checked, drug-free, professional arrive at your home and properly diagnose the cause of the problem with your boiler. The repair was never quoted as an "all day job" none of our repairs are. The price quoted was for the necessary repairs. The customer was free to accept or decline the repairs. He accepted and as such agreed to pay a predetermined fee for a specific repair. We did exactly what the customer agreed to pay us to do. Although it irrelevant to this complaint, it should be pointed out that our GPS-tracked vehicles show that we arrived onsite at 9 am for a "morning" appointment and did not leave until after 11 am, hardly 45 minutes. The customer also stated that he called with "questions". The call we received was not so much questions as it was threats that he would spread bad reviews to as many people as he could including Angie's list, the BBB, etc. unless we agreed to refund him the majority of the money that he had agreed to pay for the work that we completed as agreed upon. It was explained to him that we completed the work as agreed and for the price that agreed and there is no further action necessary on our part. He then demanded to speak with owner along with referring to him in derogatory terms. At this point the customer had spoken to highest level of management required for his specific case especially when considering his tone. As far the symptom reoccurring, during the initial repair we did notify the customer of another potential and unrelated problem that may present the same symptom in the future and that if it does then it would need addressed. However, in the mean time the customer had already made it perfectly clear that he did not want to work with us any more. We are sorry that this customer is not happy, however, companies have rights too and we are not required to bend to amounts to being extorted for money in exchange for prevention of erroneous public reviews. This customer dictated through his actions how his case was going to be handled. We as a company always want to make sure that our customers are happy with our services and we work hard everyday to improve the customer experience. We hope that customer who want reliable, quality service at fair pricing turn to us.

The plumber arrived promptly when scheduled and had all the materials/tools needed to install all water and drain piping, and began work immediately. He drilled holes in the floor to install the supply and drain lines, cut into the existing lines in the basement and ran piping to the first floor where the dishwasher was to be installed. He moved the dishwasher into place and made the water, drain, and electrical hooks ups. Joe (plumber) cleaned up the work area and removed all the packing and the box the dishwasher came in, then performed a successful test run of the dishwasher. He worked with a sense of urgency and was very courteous, answering all my questions. I recommend Mitchell Plumbing and Heating to anyone who wants quality work, done by professionals who stand behind their work and make sure it's been done right. I didn't find Mitchell's through Angie's List, but have been using them since the early 70's. In 1973 they installed a hot water baseboard heating system in my 2 story Victorian, which has been heating the house ever since. The original American Standard furnace was still functioning well when I had it replaced in 2009 with a Weil McClain (sp) super efficient model to save on gas bills (almost 50% ) . Over that period I've also had them replace 3 bathrooms, replumb most of the house, repair/replace various faucets, etc. . Any time I've had a problem and needed a plumber, I've called Mitchell, and have never had occasion where they've not responded immediately to an emergency. That includes week ends and holidays. I recently had my hot water tank rupture and called Mitchell's. Next day a plumber and hot water tank was here and had us up and running. Mitchell isn't the cheapest on the block, but if you, like me are looking for quality, value, and professional workmanship, I heartily recommend them to you.

I spent time on the phone with Ben, who was able to answer all my questions before purchase. He was patient and attentive to my concerns. He was able to set a schedule in less than 48 hours from when I called. He stated they would show up between 12pm and 4pm EST. The technician called when he was 15 minutes away and showed up precisely when he stated he would. Dan and his associate did an excellent job of coming in, examining the situation, draining the tank, removing the tank, and replacing the tank. It may have taken them a little over an hour to execute the entire job. There were not any issues regarding lack of professionalism or leaving unnecessary debris in my home. Overall - an excellent job from end to end for a fair price. I would call them again if I had Heating/Air or plumbing concerns.

He cut a hole in the ceiling downstairs approx. 15 by 20 inches. He replaced a leaking section of my copper drain pipe, that was in the ceiling. The house is 70 years old and I felt that if it was leaking at the point, that all the pipe going through the floor of the bathroom would also be bad. I requested to open the downstairs ceiling to expose the bathroom drain pipe. He was adamant that the rest of the pipe was fine, even though he couldn't see it. When the repair man came for the plaster ceiling, he opened the area to expose the entire drain line. It was evident that the whole drain line was in bad shape, there was another leak. I paid Mitchell by the half hour and he was at my house most the day, so I felt he overcharged me. He was on his cell phone a lot taking personal calls in my home and in his truck. They did refund me for some time since he was on the phone so much. I called another plumber come out to make the final repairs.
