 + -1 moreThis company had the contract to service our two different heating systems when we bought our house last year. We called them to come provide annual service on both units. My other half scheduled it a month out and took off work. When they were more than an hour late he called to find out what was up. They said they couldn't come and the soonest they could come was more than a month later...which was today. They just called to say they aren't coming today. Who runs a business like this?

Description of Work: We had Union Fuel come to our house to perform a per-season air conditioning maintenance service. Two guys came out to check over the unit. They never checked the unit in the attic, but did check outside. They walked around and looked at the vents and the filter. That was it. Throughout the summer, we noticed that the air conditioner was not cooling to the desired temperature. The thermostat was reading usually 10 degrees higher than the set temperature. We called Union Fuel to come take a look. They sent out a technician to take a look. First, he took out the filter and told me it "looked a little dirty". My husband had just vacuumed it that day and rinses it once a month. The technician took it outside and ran the hose over it. Then he went to the outside unit where he ran the hose over that. He added some refrigerant. Then he looked at the vents to take temperatures. He noted that some of the vents weren't opened all the way; he opened those further. I was given a bill for $306. $90 for the service call, $70 for the refrigerant, and $146 for "misc level 3" services. In our opinion, were charged $146 for him to use our hose to hose down a unit that had just been looked at 2.5 months prior and a filter that is washed by hose each month. (The technician did recommend we use 409 first and then hose it). Advice worth $146? I don't think so. We are especially upset that we paid $100 for the pre-season maintenance where they did not check to make sure the vents were opening all the way and did not tell my husband to hose down the outside unit each month. I called and made made my feelings known about these charges and was told by the manager that he feels the charges were correct. We will not be using them again for our air conditioner.

 + 0 moreThe staff at Union Fuel act like they are doing a favor by providing service. They are unwilling to accommodate our schedule when cleaning the furnace or air conditioner. Customer service does not exist. This year we made the choice to convert to gas as the efficiency of the furnace had declined significantly. We chose a different provider due to the ongoing dissatisfaction that we experienced with this company. When we advised them that we were converting to gas, they were unwilling to work with us to transfer the remaining oil or tank. In addition despite the fact that we did not use the burner service and were only four months into the budget year they charged us for the entire year of a service plan. Do not make the mistakes that we did which was give this company the benefit of the doubt. Oil can be bought anywhere. What distinguishes a company is their customer service which consists of working with the customer, treating them with respect and showing appreciation for their business. This does not exist in this organization .
Description of Work: Union fuel installed our oil furnace in the mid-1990's. At the time the company was under different leadership and we were pleased with the customer service as well as the price of the install. Unfortunately in the past 5+ years this company has failed us in almost every way. We had our oil tank replaced by them 4-5 years ago and they did a poor job. My husband complained and we refused to pay which did result in them fixing some of our concerns.

 + -1 moreI have an older central AC system which works pretty well until lately it was not cooling as strongly. I checked Angie's List and the ratings for Union Fuel Company were all very positive, and they had a coupon for AC service call. I called them in the morning and they were at my house within 3 hours. The service technician knew exactly what he was doing and checked out the whole system, recharged the coolant, answered my questions, showed me how to do a couple maintenance items, and made a couple recommendations for when I replace the system in the future (like considering a heat pump). He was finished in less than an hour. I was extremely impressed with this company and would highly recommend them to anyone. After having some disappointing experiences with contractors the past couple years it was refreshing to feel like I got good value and quality work. I am writing this review an hour after he left and the AC is working great!

 + -1 moreAll work was done as promised and always punctually. All workmen were helpful and polite. Work spaces were cleaned and they even removed an old water heater I'd had in my basement. I was impressed that they always paint the exterior meter piping. Even though they do not install it, they said it tends to rust, so they'd rather paint it to prevent rusting.
Description of Work: Union Fuel delivered an estimate and installed a new natural gas unit. They removed oil tanks and the oil furnace.

 + -1 moreBefore choosing Union Fuel, I contacted several contractors, big and small. Chuck from UnionFuel convinced me they are the best for my situation. First Chuck was very hands-on with technical details. Second, UnionFuel has all the credentials like Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, the President's Awards, ServAssure etc. Third, their price was competitive. Their bid was not the cheapest but close. They were about a thousand dollar cheaper than another well-qualified contractor. The installation took one day and went smoothly. The new system has been running well for about two months. We have been generally happy with the whole process. The only small issue is that, after the installation and our full payment, it took more than a month and several emails for Union Fuel to send us the receipt. We need the receipt for rebates from governments and the utility company.
Description of Work: Union Fuel replaced our old heat pump for the master bedroom with a new 1.5-ton Carrier Comfort system. The old system was independent from the main AC for the rest of the house. It was more than 20 years old. The new one contains an air handler 25HBC and an outside unit FX4, with a combined SEER of 15.25. The air handler is in the attic.

 + -1 moreUnion Fuel are fine. The guy was great and they are attentive. They are just to expensive for us right now so we are making due with what we have for now. They were professional, responsive, and called me back soon after I called them. The only issue I had was that I can't afford it right now. They were very forth coming and professional. I'd give them As across the board. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Union Fuel for a new furnace for the house. They actually came out originally to fix my current furnace and it turned out to be a very minor thing. The guy was done in like 20 minutes for the repair. It was so quick I forgot about it. It is pretty old furnace so all he had to do was take off a panel, move something around, and it started working again.

 + -1 moreWe've been using them since they put our furnace in which was about sixteen years ago. They put a new fuel tank in as well and we are happy with them. One time a fuel nozzle was clogged up and they were out in half an hour and replaced it.
