Description of Work: Paul worked on 10 small but important jobs around the house, garage and fence. Everything was properly completed in one day. Paul is very professional and pleasant. I'm sure I will utilize his services again.
Paul came for his estimate in a very timely manner from when I first contacted him to when he actually came to the house. He took a quick look around and felt he could do all the jobs I had listed. He was honest that at this time he could not do my deck. He told me what supplies I would need to get and even showed me how to do some of the smaller jobs so that I could save money and not have to pay him to do them, that is above and beyond anything I expected!! He did come again for the day and time we arranged via email. He did everything in one day very quickly and efficiently. I was amazed at how wonderful everything looked and that he had done it so quickly! Paul was polite, punctual, and really cared about how his finished product looked. He completely cleaned up after himself so that I had nothing to clean up that he had "messed up" while doing the jobs. I ALWAYS have to clean up after people who come do work on my house so this was a FIRST that he actually cleaned so well after himself it was like he was never there! He was very reasonably priced for a single mom like me!! I WILL be hiring Paul from now on whenever I get a list of some handyman jobs that are just beyond my ability to do. He is wonderful and I am keeping his business card on a magnet on the side of my fridge because he is THAT good!!! :)
Description of Work: Paul painted my basement wall (not easy as it was around closets, doorways, and steps) with primer and paint, even doing a little extra painting because he wanted it to look better and cohesive with the old areas. Paul showed me how to fix some little things like how to change my bedroom ceiling light's bulb (I had not idea where in the ceiling to unscrew the fixture from) so that I would not have to pay him for his time. Paul replaced a light fixture in my son's bedroom. He replaced a door knob in my son's bedroom. He also fixed a faucet that had spraying issues. He fixed cement and brick that was breaking apart on the front step patio. He fixed some blinds that were falling down because my cats had ripped them down.

I contacted this company by email requesting an estimate. Paul responded the same day and came out a few days later to check out the job. We agreed on a price and within one week the job was completed to my satisfaction. The agreed upon price was actually 850 but I only paid 750 because I sold him a roofing nail gun that I no longer needed.
Description of Work: Remove and replace approximately 3 square of shingles on a shed roof. The price included disposal of the old shingles.

At $35.00/hr, I thought four hours to put up three pieces of chair rail was ridiculous. He gave me a quote for a previous job (6/7/12) and then wanted to charge me more after completion. I guess he thought he was 'short changed' and therefore made up the difference on this job.

Response from Honesty & Pride
This job was not only installing 3 pieces of chair rail. First the old chair rail had to be removed. The old chair rail was glued to the wall and it did take a lot of time to carefully remove it and not cause any damage to the walls. I also had to cut between outlets and the washing machine hook up. I could not cut the exact corner angles due to the fact that the old chair rail was attached above the original paneling and she had ugly nail holes showing near the top of the paneling.I had to bring the new chair rail below the top of the paneling to hide the old nail holes and as a result I could not make a perfect angle cut for the corners. I had to use extra calk to fill in the gap. I took extra time trying to figure out the best angle possible. I know she was up set with the time but I always try to do the job right .I had given her a price of $35.00 per hour plus the cost of materials and yes it did take me 4 hours.I bought 3 pieces of chair rail (1) 12' ( 1) 10'and (1) 8' There where 6 individual pieces that had to be cut.The job I did on (6/7/12) that she is complaining about was an estimate for aluminum capping under a sliding glass door and an entry door to the laundry room.I had on my estimate (the original) to be $150.00. When the job was completed she said it was only to be $100.00. I was willing and ended up charging her the $100.00 because I always want to keep the customer happy .She also had a problem with an outdoor pole lamp that took me 1/2 hour to fix that I did not charge her for. My work ethics have never changed in 5 years since I have been in business for myself and all my Angies List customers have graded my work with an A rating. I am proud of my Super Service award for 2 years in a row and I hope to make it this year.

Paul and Robert arrived on time. They cut and removed water-damaged wood panels and insulation in the basement. We also requested them to rip off the carpet from the basement stairs. These gentlemen worked quickly and efficiently, and then cleaned up when they were done. All in all - an excellent job. Paul would definitely be on the top of our list for our next handyman project.

I had a large hole in my spouting and didnt want to really replace the spouting. The repairman suggested that he could fix it and gave me a firm price. This company not only fixed the problem, but went beyond that and did some extra work. Very good repairmen. Honest, polite, and clean. I will definitely use them again and I am very glad that I found them on Angie's list.

The two men arrived on time on the days they said they would be there, worked carefully, cleaned up after themselves and got the job done more quickly than I thought. They focused on what they were doing and worked the entire time they were here. They seemed intent on finishing the job they started rather than a little at a time and coming back numerous times, which other workers have done. They were great and we will certainly have them here again!

The job itself went very well. There was a time span of about 7 weeks in between the power washing and the actual painting, due to rain almost every day. That could not be helped. The deck and the porch look great, worth the wait. Paul is a very dependable worker who takes pride in doing a good job. I have always been very pleased with Paul's work. I'm sure he has many satisfied customers, I'm one of them!.

Because it's an older house, we needed someone who could make the repairs and keep the home's character. To make things a bit more complicated, we needed someone who could do the work unsupervised (because we live in a neighboring state). Honesty & Pride was highly recommended on Angie's List, so we called and spoke with the owner, Paul, to schedule an estimate.Paul was flexible in scheduling a meeting with us, and really generous with his time. As we walked through the house, he asked lots of questions about each repair job we needed and was completely up front about which jobs he could handle (and offered referrals for the jobs he couldn't do, which is rare--most contractors are all too willing to bite off more than then can chew). That said, Paul agreed to do about 90% of the work we needed. We scheduled the work, and Paul completed everything on time and within budget. That much we expected. What really excited us was how great a job he did. I mean, really excellent work. The fence gate worked better than when we bought the house. Seriously. Same with the door frame he fixed. The paint job he did is amazing. You'd think, "Hey, it's just a coat of paint." But it isn't. When Paul paints, the entire room looks brand new. Like, you-wish-you-weren't-selling-the-house-brand-new.Bonus: we also needed cleaning services. Paul provided an excellent referral that did an absolutely stunning job, top to bottom. In short, Honesty & Pride is just what it says it is. We couldn't have made a better choice. If you need handyman services, I'm 100% confident that you'll be very happy working with Paul.
Description of Work: We needed a number of repairs to get our house ready for sale, including: rehanging the gate on our wood fence, fixing an exterior door frame, fixing a soffit, and interior painting.

Paul and his helper were both punctual and professional when they worked in my home. They not only did the ceiling repair work but helped me figure out how to use my gas fireplace and even repaired a couple doors and hung a picture for me. I looked for a very long time to find a contractor who was both professional and fair, and I am very glad I waited out the winter when he had surgery so I could have Paul do the work. If you are looking for a man who treats your home with care and does an excellent job, look no further!

The business responded to my call (made as a result of reviews in Angie's List), within a day. He came out for a free quote, and work was scheduled and was done on the date discussed. The quote was the lowest and the process made sense to me (one contractor suggested putting a downspout on the opposite side without changing the pitch of the gutter). Very professional did the work quickly, and left the place clean and met my expectations fully.
Description of Work: Removed a 36 foot gutter & rehung to drain in the opposite direction. Changed gutter pitch, capped previous downspout, create new downspout on reverse end, and sealed all appropriate areas, re-inserted gutter gards. This work resolved a drainage issue which was causing water to get into the basement.

We enjoyed meeting and working with Paul. He is very professional and I can see why his business is called Honesty and Pride. Both words describe how he approaches each job. His quote was for $700 to remove the old door (with two sidelights) and screen and install a new front door. At the warehouse there were only two doors that we liked - one too big and one too small. So we bought the smaller one and Paul and Robert had to rebuild the doorframe to make it fit. This took additional time and materials, and we were charged $250 more in labor and $145 for parts. Paul told us ahead of time that reframing the door would cost more, and we agreed. They worked steadily all day to remove the old door with sidelights, remake the frame opening, install the new door, recap the outside, and install new trim. When they finished, they took away the old door and cleaned up everything. It's the little things that make Paul so good. When he put the new doorknob on he asked me to come open the door. It was difficult for me to push the latch down, so he adjusted things until I could do it without effort. He will come back another time to finish painting around the frame both inside and out. We LOVE our new door! Thank you, Paul!
Description of Work: We wanted our solid front door replaced with one that had glass, and used angieslist to find Honesty and Pride. We called Paul and he came out to measure and give us an estimate. About a month later he and his coworker, Robert, came back, remeasured and then followed us from our home to Miller Supply Warehouse, where we bought the door. We picked out a door we liked, and Paul measured and said it was an inch too big, and with bricks around our doorframe, wouldn't work. So we found another, and they said it was two inches too small. That was the only door I wanted, so Paul said they could reframe it and make it work. I'm so glad they came with us to measure and know exactly what the installation would entail. We bought the door. Paul and Robert put it in their truck, took it to our house, and stored it in the garage until the following day when he returned to install it.

Paul did an awesome job. When in the process of replacing the doors, he discovered that one the door frames was a non standard frame. We would highly recommend Paul to anyone looking for someone who can handle almost any home project. We did not contract with Paul to paint our master bedroom because we wanted it done immediately and through no fault of his own, his schedule would not allow it to be done until about three weeks from when we wanted it done. I found him to be extremely promt, honest, and professional. I would definitely call him in the future for any home repair or maintenance needs.

I was so glad to see this report even though I could not do the job. It gives me the opportunity to let Angie's List members know that I have been out of work since early October with a roto-cuff shoulder operation. I am finally getting back to scheduling work for February. I appreciate all the potential customers I had to say no to jobs during this time. In the past 2 years most of my work has come from Angie's List members and I thank you all very much. Paul (Honest and Pride)

Paul Nelson and his helper, Robert, worked quickly and efficiently to get the job done. They arrived promptly at 8:30am and by noon they had completed the work. They worked well together, were very neat, and later carted away all debris and old porch wood. I found both men to be very personable and professional. I am very satisfied with the porch repair and highly recommend Paul to others. His price was fair and he provided me with the original receipts for the top quality pine wood he had purchased for the job. I would hire him again in a heartbeat! Need a carpentry job? Then call Paul Nelson at Honesty and Pride. You'll be glad you did.
Description of Work: Paul did repair work on my front porch. He replaced one piece of porch floor along the right side perifery; also replaced the front and side fascia boards, and four corner pieces at the base of the porch columns. Finally, he primed it all with Kilz to protect the wood from impending rainy weather.

The work went very well even though it was fraught with a hurricane, flooding, more rain, and more flooding. Paul was very cooperative and as soon as he saw a window where we might get the work completed, adjusted his schedule.
Description of Work: Paul did a great job cleaning and sealing a poorly maintained deck. Made some excellent suggestions while he was at it - and cleaned the gutters "because they needed cleaning". Built a new wall in our garage. Was most helpful in determing where it should go and where the door should go. Had no compunction about leaving him on his own when we were away. Fair price and excellent work. Highly recommend him.

For Paul it was a longer day then expected due to some problems that required him to go back to the store and make a return. (no fault of his) the merchandise wasn't correct...
Description of Work: Paul Nelson of Honesty and Pride replaced 2 over the vanity light fixtures for me. The price includes the new fixtures and labor. I was more than pleased, because I had called Paul the day before, and told him there was somewhat of an urgency for me, since I was expecting company and the fixture was broken in their bathroom. He was able to get here the next day, luckily for me he was doing another job in the neighborhood. He also took the time to help me with a tweeking smoke alarm. Last night I gave his name to another neighbor who will be calling him shortly for work on a basement (outside) door. I know she will be as pleased as I have been with Paul Nelson's work. I was very happy that he could get here yesterday, new fixtures look great!
