After reviewing all of the really good reviews of H - H Construction on Angie's List, I decided to touch base with Jim so he could give me an estimate on some handyman type work I needed done. I spoke with Jim and scheduled a time for him to visit the property so he could take a look at what needed to be done in order to provide an estimate. Jim arrived on time and demonstrated himself to be very professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. As such, I was really looking forward to getting the estimate from him and getting started on the work. Jim did explain to me that he was currently quite busy but gave me a window of time later that month when he would have availability. Unfortunately, I never got the estimate from Jim. I followed up with him a few times and he'd get back to me right away promising the estimate by x date. I do sincerely believe that if Jim and his crew had done the work that I'd be happy with it. I think in this case, Jim just bit off more than he could chew and didn't want to turn me down/tell me he was too busy to accept any additional work at that time. And, it was my mistake to not have scheduled other handymen to also provide estimates at the time - I put all of my eggs in 1 basket with Jim which ultimately resulted in a delay in the work being done as I had to find another handyman after waiting on Jim for a few weeks. So, my advice, if you are looking to have work done quickly, consider getting an estimate from another handyman if Jim tells you he's busy as there's a chance Jim may never follow up with his estimate. This way, if Jim doesn't get back to you, you have a Plan B.

Jim what can I say he is a trustworthy man. This breed is hard to find . I needed the exterior of my house fixed and he did an excellent job. He called before and after he started the work sending pictures of the work . I highly recommend H-H construction and will forward your name to my friends. As a first time user of Angie’s List, I must say I was very impressed with H-H Construction. Jim and his qualified team completed the renovation of our deck. Jim and his team also showed a high level of professionalism and an eye for detail. Jim went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. H-H Construction stayed within the timeline provided and the price point that was quoted. I would highly recommend them and definitely use them for any future projects.

Jim & Ted did an excellent job installing this range hood. This was not an easy job by any means. We had a previous range hood that was vented out, however the new range hood required a different size & shape exhaust to be cut out of the house. We had already tiled the back splash and the area behind the stove up to the ceiling. What we did not know was that the new exhaust hole would need to be higher than the existing exhaust hole. Much higher! So Jim and Ted had to chip out the tile work to create a new hole for the new exhaust and install an electrical outlet to plug in the unit. In-spite of the challenge ahead of them they did a excellent job.

JIM HAS DONE TWO JOBS FOR US SO FAR. HE HAS PAINTED A BEDROOM AND DID ELECTRICAL WORK IN A COUPLE OF ROOMS. HE IS VERY PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS, AND ABOVE ALL PRICED VERY FAIRLY. I HAVE CONTRACTED JIM TO DO TWO MORE JOBS FOR US. I AM HAVING A BATHROOM REMODLED AND WORK DONE TO MY DECK. HE IS A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH.

I hired this company because I was having trouble with the gutters and rain going over the gutters. I couldn't believe that they were dirty so ok I decided to have them cleaned anyway. My husband son and son in-law just cleaned the gutter last fall. I was experiencing problems with my roof so as they say, work from the top down and thats when my quest began. I only try to deal with A rated companies and there was H - H construction. The providers cleaned our house gutters thoroughly. I never had a gutter job so well done. He provided information on gutter guards so I wouldn't have to worry about the leaves staying or getting into in the gutters. I than asked them to look at my bow windows, which I knew they need replacing due to them being cased in wood. The gentleman even corked in areas that needed corking to buy me time. . The experience went extremely well. They were very polite, fair and very experience. I will be calling them again for other projects I need to take care of. I am so........ Happy with these guys. So ladies if your looking for polite, respectful, trust worthy workers this is the company to go to.?. Thanks guys. See you soon.?

Cracks that had developed in the foundation were filled and left to age for a couple days. Then the sealant was sanded and the foundation (1500 square feet) was painted. The foundation had been raw concrete and the house looks 1000 times better now that it has been painted. The painting was done very neatly and thoroughly. Care was taken with the plants that were near the foundation. H&H were very professional and pleasant to deal with. (The cost includes the cost for 8 gallons of paint.)

We are well pleased with the job that Jim did. He was thorough and professional from beginning to end and has a fabulous work ethic. Also, he is a great communicator. We were 600 miles away when he was working on our house and he called frequently and e-mailed pictures of the work in progress to keep us completely up to date. He clearly takes pride in his work and wants to make his customer happy. He had great judgment and great suggestions. My husband and I agree that he is the easiest to work with contractor we have ever hired-he was affable and delightful. We can't say enough great things about Jim. We would hire him again in a heartbeat and are pleased to recommend him very highly to Angie's List subscribers.

Jim and Ted showed up first thing in the morning as promised. The guys were professional and polite. The workmanship was excellent. We were leary at first at the idea of having a hole cut in the roof (necessary for the fan), but the guys assured us it would be fine and not to worry about water getting in. Of course the very day the work was completed we had massive thunderstorms which produced a ton of rain. Afterwards when we inspected the area in the attic where the fan was installed - not one drop! The gutter guards they installed also got a good work out from all the rain. They too stood the test. The whole experience was great. We will be calling H - H again for future projects and we highly recommend them.

There were weather delays, it was a bad spring. He was always polite and did what was promised.

I was looking for a handyman on Angie's list to fix a ripped screen on my enclosed porch , I called one person and left a message to call back ,next I called H-H Construction was leaving a message , when Jim was instantly calling me back. WOW! That was quick. He came over the same day for the estimate and was hired on the spot. Upon talking with him we were able to get other items taken care of. He gave us a date a time and he was there on time with his partner Ted. (the other person didn't get back to me until the following day -oh well) Jim and his crew were all very very nice polite good people.They not only moved the furniture so they could paint but put it back the next day when he came back to see if all looked good. Jim was there for all the jobs no matter how small. H-H construction will be the only business I call for any other job that I may need done in the future. Thanks H-H

All went very well. Jim, and his partner Ted, were always on time, worked hard to ensure quality work, and effectively managed my expectations (not an easy thing to do). I will hire Jim again when the next project arises.

Jim was very prompt to respond to our initial request, came over the following day with his partner Ted for an estimate and even fixed something else in the house before we even hired him, just as a favor. He was present throughout the whole process of the job; Jim and his crew were very professional and friendly. Jim and his team are in a class above and beyond when it comes to personal service in the Poconos. These are the guys that you can depend on and trust.

We had our vacation home built in the Poconos in 1987. We diy ers decided to paint the entry door but when we took it off the bottom was rotted. We bought a door at the local depot, painted it and when trying to install it realized it was not going to fit. After a number of futile attempts we got onto Angie's list and called H & H Construction and told them we needed the installation right away as we were due back in New York the following day. Jim & Ted were at our doorstep within the hour; quoted a very fair price (I previously called local chains for estimates) and they started work immediately. Half way through I told them I needed the old door removed from the premises and was told no problem, no extra charge. The new door was very tight and the depth was smaller than the original frame. They had to go shopping for fillers around the doorjamb and never charged us for the extra work; only the price of the lumber. I wholeheartedly recommend H & H Construction as they are very professional, pleasant people who never wavered on the price and did a wonderful job installing our beautiful entry door. The provider did a wonderful job. The upper cabinets were lined up straight, leveled and just the right height above the bottom cabinets. He also made sure the bottom cabinets were straight and leveled on the concrete garage floor. He did not place the cabinets in any spot. He made sure the cabinets were placed where they looked attractive and functional. He also installed a wood surface on top of all the bottom cabinets and stained the wood which gave the cabinets a nice finished look. Since the bottom cabinet installed in the laundry room was not big, he centered the cabinet in the middle of the space and made the wood top longer than the cabinet on both sides. This gave us additional space to fold clothes and looks very nice. I was very pleased with his suggestions, and placement of the cabinets. He did a great job utilizing the space provided. He worked in a timely manner and very clean. I highly recommend this provider and I plan on using them again.

This contractor, H-H Contractor, really delivers: Jim and his partner Ted were: Always ontime, actually early. Provided a very good price with a clear scope of work. Completed the work in a timely matter. Pleased me with the work and cleanup. Easy to get a hold of all the time. And , I hope to use them again. Don't know what more we could want in a transaction. They were great, accommodating and professional.

H & H did a great job with all the power washing and soffit repairs. On the soffits there was an issue with matching the paint. The local home centers did a poor job on the match so Jim went way out of his way to get a perfect match at an independent paint dealer. He kept me informed of his progress every step of the way and sent pictures of the operation as we could not be present during the services. When we arrived on site everything was done to our satisfaction. In fact we are currently in quotation for another batch of work since we were so pleased with the first outcome. Jim is very professional and always keeps me informed calling me on weekends and evenings to make sure the communication is clear. I plan to use H&H in the future.

April: Jim and Ted are in the middle of several small projects for us. So far everything looks good. We are happy with their work and their professionalism and communication. July Update: The quality of work that H & H did for us declined noticeably after I wrote my first positive review on Angie's List. After they power washed the deck, it wasn't even obvious that it'd been cleaned...we had to have them do it all over again.Paint and deck stain were splattered on brick and siding on multiple occasions, and will likely be there for years to come. The drywall patching that they did inside was redone 3x, and I still ended up fixing it myself before I could paint it because there was an air bubble that keep popping out under the tape. Their cleanup work was great at first, but disappointing as time went on. We found several nails and screws lying around our front porch, an area where we walk barefoot and our dog often walks. Jim's excellent communication, one of the things I liked best in our early dealings with him, also declined. He would call me at work to say that he was at our house and had a question about something when I had no idea he was even coming by that day. I don't think a contractor should EVER go on someone's property without prior notice/permission. He also was offered to give us some estimates for our business property, and promised on multiple occasions to get those estimates to us,but never did. Jim also bought a piece of wood trim to replace a piece that had rotted on our front porch pillar. I told him it didn't match and I didn't like it and that the thickness of the new trim would lead to even faster rotting this time, yet he still used the trim and painted over it. All in all, what started as a good experience with H&H went downhill very quickly. We felt like he was just trying to get the work done to get to the paycheck part, rather than to do quality work so we'd want to call him back in the future. Very disappointing, as now we will need to start our search for a handyman all over again. I would not recommend H&H to my friends or family.

H & H did a great job with all the projects they have done for me so far. They power washed the exterior of my house and deck, cleaned the gutters and repaired down spouts, installed radon fan and extended the exhaust above roof line, repaired a crack in the foundation wall, removed and repaired a small section of Sheetrock wall that had mold and jacked up and replaced the deck supports. Jim is very professional and always responds to my calls, which I find is a rare trait in contractors. Their prices are reasonable and fair for the work performed. I will continue to use them in the future.

They were contracted to replace two small sections of the roof where mold was forming in the attic and fix the vents from two bathrooms to vent out of the house rather than into the attic. They were also contracted to replace some sheet rock that had mold damage in one bathroom, tape and spackle and repaint the bathroom ceiling. They were given a $1000 in advance. They came the first day and rather than performing the work we contracted above, they went ahead and repalced a different section of the roof that was never discussed or part of the contract. We were never quoted for this additional work nor did we give approval to go ahead and do it. The next day, april 17th, they came back to perform the contracted work, but prior to starting, jacked up the price to include the work they did the day before that never should have been done without our approval. And the 'new quote', $2300.00 did not include the repalcing of the sheet rock that had mold damage in the bathroom. We chose not to move forward with any more repairs with them and cost us $1000.00 for work we never discussed or approved.

We are preparing to put our house on the market and had a lot of things that we thought we needed to do to improve its curb appeal and home inspection readiness. We called Jim on Friday, March 28th and he was able to come by that same evening to go through our to-do list and walk through the house. He gave us good advice on how to prioritize our list and even noticed some things we had missed. Jim got back to us with an initial quote just two days later and started work that following Monday. Jim and his crew were here almost everyday (as weather allowed) and completed all work efficiently and with good quality. They were professional and courteous at all times.

I called for an estimate and Jim and Ted came to see the job within a couple hours of the call. They came back the next day to do the installation. They were a little late, but called to let me know, which is courtesy that is all too rare. They were pleasant to deal with, and the work was done quickly and professionally. I look forward to working with them again.

Jim and Ted did a great job. They were prompt and very pleasant to deal with. They come to work and get the job done; no nonsense. They completed all the work professionally. No complaints, would definitely use them again.
