I chose Jim Harrison's company because of the many glowing reviews I read here on Angie's List. I am not disappointed. Though I initiated my contact at a very busy time for him, and life and weather happened for both of us thereafter, he proved to be wonderfully flexible in arranging to get all the work done. He was determined to do all he was contracted to, and to make sure I was happy with every detail of it. Communication during the process is very important to him, and, because I'm not a morning person, he even respected my request to not call me with questions and updates before 10 am. Whenever additional repair work is needed, Jim is the first person I will call.

I called this service provider because he had a high grade and great reviews. On the website they indicate that they give free estimates. They also indicate that they give a senior discount of 10%. When he came out, he charged me a $75. When I asked about the charge and the free estimate advertised, he said that he had to "drive all this way" - we are 10.5 miles away from his office. I also asked about the advertised senior discount (which is advertised at 10%) and he said he would give me a 5% discount. In looking at the receipt that he gave me, he called the estimate a "service call." If this was considered a service call, this is something that I should have been informed about before his arrival.

Jim and his partner came the day after I called them, and after I showed them the problem they said they could fix it immediately. Since they couldn't tell how much damage was done under the floor, they offered to do it on a time and materials basis without an estimate. The work took about 3 hours, requiring them to rip up a section of flooring about 2X4 feet and replace it with 3/4 inch plywood (no painting or finishing). They inspected the old cast iron plumbing and reported it in good shape, and reinstalled the toilet, adding some extra hardware to stabilize it. The work was of good quality, and the toilet's foundation is now very solid. Both men were very polite and professional, and thoroughly cleaned up after the job. My only complaint was that the price seemed quite high considering the amount of time that the job took. However, I would consider using this company again considering the quality of the work and their professionalism, but will insist on an estimate first.

Jim called first and let me know he was on his way and repaired all the rear deck work and railing as quoted within his scheduled start stop time. The interior fans and LED lightning were installed and he made sure the home was secure before he left as I was comfortable with him in our home when we were away. Jim called me at my work to let me know the job was complete and he was leaving. All debris from the fan boxes and the old fans were removed from sight as requested. It was nice to walk in and see the great work completed with no mess.

Jim is an excellent contractor for a couple of reasons. his prices are more than fair and it's easy to convey your ideas and have them become a reality. He works with you instead of telling you what should go where. the bathroom he put in my basement was originally a closet and i didn't think we would have enough room for a full bathroom. Jim and i talked it over made a couple of rough sketches and came up with a great plan. not only do i have a bathroom downstairs but it also has a shower stall! his work is timely and he is neat and considerate of your time. i would recommend him highly.

Got the job done in reasonable time at a reasonable cost.

I would like to preface this review by stating that it entirely is based on my experiences with this contractor. No malice is intended in this review, just my honest opinions, based on the personal experiences that we had with H & H contractors. Jim of H & H contracting came out to provide an estimate on stonework for our fireplace and a wood stove installation. Jim explained to us that he did excellent work and provided fair estimates. Jim further explained (even though unsolicited) that the negative feedback H & H received on Angie's list from a previous customer was unjustified. (In a previous review, Jim was accused of failure to respond to a customer as he did not call back). Jim admitted that he did not call the customer back and explained it away to us, as addressing "a family emergency". This reason seemed plausible, so we went ahead with asking Jim to provide and estimate on the cost of the job. Jim seemed polite, professional and courteous. After discussing the work that we wanted to have done, we were promised he would call back in a few days with an estimate. We waited three days to hear back from Jim. After day three, I took the initiative as the customer by taking it upon myself to follow up with Jim. In an effort to be fair, we gave H & H every opportunity to win our business. I do not think it unreasonable to expect a professional in business to keep the promises they make to a customer. With that said, I would fully expect a professional to respond to the customer within a reasonable period of time and perform whatever duties they agreed to perform. As the old adage goes, "where there is smoke, there is fire". Evidently, the poor review on "lack of response" H & H received proved to be justified. Feel free to draw your own conclusion, but here are the facts: As previously mentioned, after our initial meeting, I did not hear back from H &H for three days, so I contacted Jim and left a voicemail. Jim returned my message and apologized for not getting back to me sooner. Jim went on to explain that he was tied up and waiting for pricing from his vendor. We accepted this excuse, as Jim told me he would call back in a few more days. Well, a few days later, we still had yet to receive an estimate. Again, I called Jim for an estimate. I should have exercised wisdom at this point and decided to waste no more of my time on this contractor. When we spoke, Jim informed us that he "may not be able to handle the job in the time frame that we had discussed". My response was as follows: "Although you may be busy with other projects, I would still like for H & H provide me with an estimate for the job." In doing so, this would allow us to make the decision as to whether or not the time frame to have the worked performed was acceptable. As we may have been willing to wait until Jim was available in exchange for quality workmanship. At this point, had Jim told me : "I am sorry, I cannot do the job because I am too busy". We would have accepted a straightforward response and would have appreciated Jim's professionalism and integrity. I called Jim about this elusive estimate for yet a third time on Friday Oct 2nd. To which Jim promised to call me with an estimate on Monday (Oct 5th) of the following week. After not receiving a call back on this "estimate" by Thursday (Oct 8th), I finally called Jim for yet a fourth time! Only to receive more excuses as to why he was unable to provide me with an estimate over a period of two weeks. Excuses yes, estimate no. It was apparent that Jim did not want to perform the work. I am unaware as to what the reason is to his lack of response. Perhaps, he is busy because of his quality work. However, based on Jim's unresponsiveness to our request, we will never be able to ascertain this. I was prepared to pay H & H between a $5000-$7000.00 job, yet H &H completely disregarded my attempts to offer them work. After exercising a great deal of my valuable time, my patience and energy on an unresponsive contractor, I finally confronted Jim on his lack of professionalism. This was demonstrated in H & H not returning my phone calls as promised. During this conversation, I was upfront and asked Jim the following; "Are you able to do the job or not?" Jim became defensive and belligerent. Jim proceeded to tell us that he would not be able to "work" with us. It was apropos, the reality is Jim never worked for us at all. Perhaps H & H contracting does excellent work, but the fact remains, that this organization never provided us the opportunity to determine whether or not that is true. I am relieved that we did not commit to this project with H & H contracting, I would hate to think of my living room being torn apart and this contractor not showing up to finish, while providing excuses that include slow suppliers and "family emergencies" half way through my job. The power of the internet is a remarkable thing. Customers can now share their experiences both positive and negative for all to see. The days of unprofessionalism having to trickle out slowly by word of mouth are gone. The online community has a voice and the affects are instantaneous. If you want to represent yourself on Angie's list as a professional, be prepared to act like a professional. The basis of this reasoning is simple, in that "word" is going get out good or bad. The bottom line, is that Jim (H &H contracting) did not act in a professional manner in his actions or lack thereof. Jim certainly did not display professional conduct in terms of his attitude after being "called out" for failing to respond three separate times. The question then, become this: Are your are willing to gamble on whether or not this contractor will be responsive to your needs as a customer and return your calls? Provided the answer is yes, then I would certainly recommend calling H & H for an estimate to find out the answer. Alex D. Poconos, PA Apropos

Jim and Mark were the best contractors we have ever used. Jim returns your call immediately and gives you the appointment and time to come and look at the job and give his estimate At a time that works best for you. They are both very professional and do excellent work! We will highly recommend them to anyone for any kind of work needed and we will definitely call them again for any additional work we would need done. GREAT SERVICE!!

I had a leak in my roof and Jim showed up right away and not only repaired the leak but also inspected the roof for potential other trouble areas. He reinforced other areas for no additional cost. I will definitely use him again.

The initial meeting with Jim Harrison was productive and professional. After he understood what I wanted to do and what needed to be done he took full charge. I was not living at the house, so he would call me to tell me he would be at the house and what he would be doing on the exterior. I would tell him when to expect me at the house and he would make sure that he was available to do the interior repairs on those days. At first, I was nervous that I wouldn't be there but the first time I showed up and saw the quality of his work I no longer had any doubts that I hired the right man for my job. He did everything he told me he would do and then some. I am 100% satisfied with everything that was done and I look forward to using H - H Construction in the future;

First of all, Jim was VERY responsive to my initial inquiry and every step of the way until the work was performed. Jim was very accommodating and scheduled the work around my schedule. When he first came to the house to provide us with an estimate, he came almost a half hour early because he knew I had to get on my way to work. On the day services were performed, Jim and Mark arrived and got right to work. They were professional and courteous and very mindful of the house so as to not dirty or disturb areas outside of the scope of work. After each job was completed, they completely cleaned up the area before moving on to the next task to complete. They did AMAZING work! After experiencing this interaction with H-H Construction and seeing the quality of work, I gave them a new list of work we need done so he can start working on another estimate for me. My wife and I have agreed to appoint Jim / H-H Construction as our "go-to" contractor from now on. (my mom and mother-in-law will be also)

I was very pleased with the job H and H construction did at my home. The job was completed in the time stated with no problems whatsoever. This is the second time I have used them and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Jim Harrison (and helper Mark) from H - H Construction came out the same day I called and fixed some leaky spots in my roof in the area of the chimney. He was very professional and courteous and had things fixed in a very short time. He gave me a good price as well. I plan to use him again for other repairs!

He had 2 separate repairs on the roof. He came on the day as scheduled and went right to work on the 1st repair. While he was up on the roof, it started to rain. Since it was not a heavy rain, he completed the job for the first repair. It was raining much too hard to complete the 2nd part of the job, so he said he would call back in a few days to do the rest of the project. Jim then came back a few days later to do the 2nd repair. This piece is a 2-part project, because the material that he put on has to completely dry before he can put the next material on. He will be back early next week to finish the job. Both repairs were completed on time and as requested. I would definitely use Jim again for future projects and recommend him as a reliable contractor.

Jim was very prompt in returning my call on a Saturday and completed the job the very next day. He was very knowledgeable, offered options, and kept me informed during the course of the project. He was always polite and honest, which is refreshing these days. From this point forward, what I cannot do myself, he'll be my go-to guy.

Well I first called Jim on Wednesday August 5th and left a message and he got back to me the same day and he was out to my house by today, August 8th, only three days later! All other electricians I have called before him did not try as hard to make their customers a priority and would schedule us out days even weeks later. Jim was fast, efficient, very personable and professional, as well as knowledgable. He figured out a solution and gave us a very reasonable price to fix these issues. I will definitely be recommending Jim to other friends and family!

I called and asked if there was availability for an estimate for my rental property and was told that I will be called later on that evening I was waiting for a call and no one called me back, then at 7:30am I was called back by Jim who said he has availability and will be heading up there. I called my tenant and had her sit and wait but no one showed up. When I called him back no one answered and got a text message saying that he was in a meeting and he will call me back and no one ever did. This is un professional and if this is the way business is conducted I cant imagine the work being any good.
