Rance was very professional and helpful with suggestions for treating our badly worn deck. He works collaboratively with you on what you would like. Extremely prompt and diligent. Also a nice, interesting guy, as is his wife, who came out to help on a finishing-up project. Please note that the costs above did not include the cost of paint and stain, which we paid for ourselves. Actually, the stain Rance helped me select had to be ordered online (by me), as it was unavailable in local stores. Rance spent a lot of time sanding and otherwise preparing our porch floor, which had not seen a new coat of paint in 11 years and was peeling badly. He does beautiful work on the paint. He took samples of colors that I had, and he matched them up well. He didn't charge extra for painting the vertical post parts of the railing a different color from the horizontal parts. (This is what took me a million hours 11 years ago, when I did it myself!) Again, on the back deck, he was painstaking and thorough. These jobs had to be worked into the weather schedule, so be aware that any outdoor work might get delayed by rain (or cold), as ours did a little. But this was out of his hands, and I am perfectly satisfied. My impression is that he prefers remodeling or more creative work than straight painting--again, he's a creative, thoughtful guy--but he was happy to do our straightforward repainting job as well.
Description of Work: Scraped, primed, and painted wooden front porch floor and wooden railings. Porch floor approx 8-by-25 feet. Washed and prepared back decks and stairs, stained everything. Deck surfaces approx 10-by-25 feet, plus 8-by-12 feet, plus one set of about 15 steps.

He showed up on time and the final price was lower than the estimate.
Description of Work: He tore out the old wooden steps and replaced them. He also added a hand rail and even brought some scrap wood to match the pre existing lattice. He is going to come out to paint the porch in the spring.

Our back porch is 20' x 16' and already had a roof and railings. Rance researched products and chose an aluminum frame product that would work well with the exisitng structure. The result appears to be durable and is aesthetic. We specified using pet screen and settled on having the pet screen installed on just the lower portion of the screens to save money and simplify the installation. In addition to doing an excellent job on the installation, Rance communicated progress very well and dealt with some material delivery issues promptly and professionally. He provided a realistic schedule and met it. The price was very reasonable for the work completed, although the materials cost a little more than expected. Still the result was well worth the price as installation is such high quality.
Description of Work: The provider screened in our back porch and installed a screen door.

I contacted him on Angie's list and he responded right away. I had him over for an estimate, which he got back to me shortly, and was very clear about explaining the estimate in his email. We will be completing the project in the next couple of months.
Description of Work: Rance came over for an estimate on a stairway project. We have to push our actual work back, but his price point was good and he is very well at communicating his ideas.

The railing was built right up against the steps, treated wood was used, all finish work was very nice and neat - ready for painting next year. We are considering adding spindles next year for appearance sake. Rance was very responsive, on time and his work is great! We already have other outside work scheduled for next year. He is very honest as to what he can conplete. He did the best he could on the brick and gave us suggestions on further action we could take.
Description of Work: Railing built next to stone steps for safety and clean caulk off brick.

Mr. McKeithen first came out and gave us a free estimate. We were initially going to have more work done, but elected to go forward with just the reglazing at this time. Mr. Mckeithen communicated with us via emails and phone. He arrived as promised and did a beautiful job! The work took less time than he had anticipated so the final cost was actually LESS than his original estimate! What a pleasant surprise!
Description of Work: Mr. Mckeithen reglazed around all 64 small window panes on the exterior of the sunroom on my grandmother's house. This sunroom is located above the two car garage. This was not an easy job!

We collected bids from several contractors on Angie's List before deciding to work with Rance. The main reasons we chose to work with him over the others were that he was enthusiastic about the job and he took the time to put together some drawings before giving us an estimate. This took a little longer but we knew that his estimate would be more accurate and hold fewer surprises than those who just came out and and quot;eyeballed itand quot;. We were most impressed with Rance's attention to details. His measurements, detailed design drawings, applying for permits and building to code, getting everything level...he does it right! Rance was also very friendly and offered helpful advice on other minor fixes that were brought up in conversation. He was very punctual and kept us aware of his schedule-- for example, if he knew he wasn't going to be there one day he'd let us know ahead of time. The entire project was completed (including cleanup) in 11 work days (a little over two weeks after the beginning of the project). He finished early and under-budget, something we've never experienced from any other contractor! Rance's professionalism, quality of work, honesty and friendliness make us happy to recommend him to anyone and we will definitely be contacting him again for future projects. We truly can't say enough good things about our experience.
Description of Work: We hired Rance for 2 simultaneous jobs. The first was to fix a small section of flashing where an addition joins into the main house. The day he came to look at the projects he immediately recognized the problems with the flashing and also noted that the gutter coming from an upper roof was not extending far enough down the roof to the addition, causing water to get behind the siding where the flashing was missing. We felt confident that he knew what was wrong and how to fix it and sure enough, he fixed this quickly & thoroughly, eliminating the leaks we've had inside the house. (This is after a different contractor last summer removed our chimney and relined the gutters trying to fix the leak & still managed to overlook the fact that there was NO FLASHING for the addition...) This project was completed faster than estimated and Rance passed the savings on, not charging us for the time he didn't need. The second job was much more complicated. He constructed a new set of wooden stairs (2 flights with a landings in the middle and at the top) going from our concrete patio up a really steep hill to a yard. He hand-dug all the holes for posts on a very steep grade, set posts in concrete, framed and laid steps, fabricated railings and added balusters to all railings. The finished product is amazing--all our family and friends love the new stairs and we're thrilled to finally have safe access to our top yard. He used quality materials which resulted in a very sturdy, safe set of stairs.

Rance gave me a reasonable and fair estimate for installation of doors. Rance said he would be at my home at 7:30 am and was punctual. With all of that being said, his work nothing short of exceptional and would recommend him to anyone and I plan to utilize his skills again in the near future. PJM

Rance did excellent job matching the trim of an older house and making the front porch woodwork look great. His communication via phone and email has been excellent. He gave several repair options and detailed estimates. He was very punctual. The job has been done with great attention to detail, on time and budget.
Description of Work: Replacement of missing trim and repair of rotted wood/trim around the perimeter of the porch roof. Damaged areas were repaired using caulk and wood filler sanded to match shape. Flaking and peeling paint was scraped and wire brushed. Deep and wide cracks were caulked smooth. Surface was painted with one coat of stain-blocking exterior primer (Kilz) and with coats of exterior white satin paint (Behr Pure Premium).

Bathroom was done first. Ceiling and wall had plaster bubbling from water leakage. Wallboard and plastering repair was top-notch, and some wallpaper was replaced (from leftover). Room was left for us to prime and paint. Main front door was adjusted to compensate for house shifting, and new weatherproofing installed. Existing storm door was replaced, and all trim re-installed or replaced. Some painting was required to finish trim. Back storm door was replaced, and small awning cover fabricated and installed. Back window, with much rotting trim, was replaced with window we purchased, new frame installed and some plastering done. Some supporting structure had to be repaired/replaced. Some trim was left for us to paint. Overall work was entirely satisfactory. A little more attention to finishing would have been nice, but there was nothing left that we couldn't do.
Description of Work: Work included installing two storm doors, resetting an inside front door, replacing a window, and repairing water damage in the bathroom ceiling/wall.

I was noticing that my heat and air condition bills seemed a little high and after an inspection it was determined there was no insulation in the roof of my ranch style home. It was also determined that I had two outside doors that were leaking air due to being out of adjustment and not having any type of insulation trim. A full estimate was given for all labor time and required material and I said when could you put me on the schedule. A date/time was given and work began precisely on that day. While working this job I also asked about the bathroom ceiling and same precise estimate was given so that work too was put on the schedule. The professionalism and courtesy of R. M. Construction is beyond compare with any previous contractor/company I have dealt with. All the work was performed in very timely manner, cost was very reasonable and leftover materials were cleaned from work areas and removed. All this was great experience and R. M. Construction will perform all future work.
Description of Work: There were many services performed over a period of less than a week. The first and most important was roof insulation. R. M. Construction did a full inspection of my roof space and did a very precise measurement for the required insulation. R. M. Construction was there for the insulation delivery and it was installed over the next day and half in over 1500 square feet. While there two out side doors were readjusted and insulation trim was installed stopping all the wind gaps. Last was a repair with drywall to a ceiling that was below a toilet that leaked and ruined that ceiling. Also with this ceiling an inspection was performed to insure the toilet leak had stopped.

Rance is fantastic. We have two more projects lined up for Rance to do when the weather improves. He came on the first day and filled in the gutter so water wouldn't pool and repaired the leak. He also scrapped the roof in preparation for painting. When he came the second day to paint, he noticed the water still pooling so before he painted he added more fill to that side of the gutter. Before Rance, we tried two companies we found on Angie's list. The first company refused to do roof or gutter and quot;repairsand quot; only replacement. Our roof still has about 5 years life in it, and we can't afford to pay for a new roof and gutter due to some minor ice damage from last winter. The second company said they would do repairs, but sent an estimate for a new roof. We called the second company and tried to explain again what we wanted. The second estimate again came with the new roof price. We had pretty much given up getting the repair work done. We were praying that we could hold out a few more years. Then a friend told us about Rance. Rance does excellent work. He is very professional. He comes on time, and he works. He is very focused and efficient. He accessed our roof from the bathroom window. He put a covering over the floor and cleaned up after he was done. The paint was red, and you couldn't see a speck of red paint in our bathroom after he was done!
Description of Work: Rance repaired the box gutter over a a small breakfast nook addition to the back of the house. He also scrapped and painted the metal roof.

Mr. McKeithen and I discussed what I wanted done. He then got the building permit from Hampton township. The deck was built according to what I wanted and the requirements of the township. He then painted the bricks. Everything was approved by the building inspector. I am well pleased by his work. I would highly recommend Mr. McKeithen.

The reason I stated in the services performed and ldquo;so farand rdquo; is because I still have about four more projects that need to be done and because the work performed to date is of the highest quality and a quality that I have seen in long time, which is very, very reasonably priced and all the work is completed within very timely manner by a true and courteous professional and this is why I have had R M Construction do these projects. I will also continue to recommend R M Construction to all my family and friends. Just so you know I have recommended R M Construction to many family and friends and everyone that has had work done is just as pleased and just as happy with everything as I am, if not more than I am. Fantastic Job, Thank you!!
Description of Work: What I can say at this time is that so far the work performed by R M Construction has been as follows, basement steps boxed with quarter-round and painted, two outside doors adjusted and weatherproofed, an inside basement door refitted and adjusted and a hillside rainwater French drain completely rebuilt with a leach bed.

Overall, this was a very good experience. Written proposals were received from three handyman service providers found on Angies List. R.M. Construction (Rance McKeithen) was chosen based on reputation, knowledge, presentation and price. References were called. Official contractor registration was obtained from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection. A contract was executed detailing the work to be performed, start and end dates, and payment schedule. It was followed. As agreed, I bought all materials direct from the supplier (Home Depot) and contracted for a dumpster (Allied Waste Services). Half the labor cost was paid at the agreed 50% completion point and the remaining 50% on satisfactory completion of the work. I felt safe with this arrangement. It was proposed by the contractor. I am very happy with this work. The repaired shed looks like new. The new pool equipment shed, designed by Mr. McKeithen, looks good and is much easier to use than it's predecessor. Mr. McKeithen was very reliable and kept me well informed of his progress and schedule. No change orders were needed.
Description of Work: Demolished a rotted wooden storage shed. Demolished a second rotted wooden shed sheltering a pool pump, filter and heater. Constructed a new pool equipment shed, 6' long by 4' wide by 8' high, with pressure treated wood and shingle roof. Replaced rotted wood and crumbled shingles on a third shed. All seams and wood, new and existing, were sealed and painted. Replaced rotted wood fascia around the porch roof. Added drip edge and fascia metal. Painted exposed wood. Constructed new 20' long handrail up steps and along deck with pressure treated wood.

I am a project manager for a commercial real estate firm, so I have supervised many contractors over the last 20 years. That being said, I found Mr. McKeithen to be an exceptional small contractor. I hired him to do work on my home, my mother's home and a rental property that I own. He showed up on time, kept me appraised of his progress and schedule, has a wide ranging and high skill level. His rates were fair, payment terms reasonable, never gouging on extras or unforeseen problems. He was always available for questions, never dodging calls and explained his reasoning on certain technical points. The quality of his work is high and he showed conscientiousness and a strong work ethic. Everything I hired him for went smoothly and I could not give a better recommendation for someone who needs an honest, skilled small contractor or handyman.
Description of Work: I had R.M. Construction perform high (30') wooden window repair (scraping, re-glazing, rotted wood) exterior painting, interior painting, box gutter and standard gutter repairs, roofing and chimney flashing repairs, brick / mortar and water damage / drywall repairs. He installed storm doors, an ornamental privacy fence and a ceiling fan. I also have observed on other jobs his skill with wood framing and drywall work.
