At Sullivan Super Service, you’ll take pride in knowing you’re hiring a family-owned company that employs four generations of Sullivans and has been working in the Pittsburgh area since 1964. Bill and Anna Sullivan started their business out of their home with just one truck. As their family grew, so did their business and they opened a shop in Braddock and hired more technicians. Through the years the company grew but remained committed to offering the special touch of a family operated business.
Went very well. I've used Sullivan in the past and the are great about coming quickly. They came less than 24 hours after my initial call. Ryan S was good aboutexplaining things to me on a level I could understand. He left things cleaner than he found them. Excellent customer service skills.
Description of Work: I had a leak at the temperature and pressure valve that began to pick up speed. Wasn't too worried about it when it was a minor drip. That was probably my first mistake. Both the valve and the thermal expansion tank were replaced.

The plumber that that sent me was soooo capable, courteous ,efficient.did a great job ,did the job in a efficient amount of time. I was hesitant to have it replaced as you hear all these horror stories of elderly people getting ripped off, and I am elderly but he explained what he was going to do and I left him to finish my cleaning,he called for me when he was finished and asked if I wanted to inspect the job. I would call this company again!

I paid for the service call $100. They said if I got them without going through Angie's List, they would come without need for a service call. If you call them to give you an estimate and you do not hire them, there will be a service call to you. I was charged extra more and the price was bad.

It didn't work out that well. I had a dripping faucet that had been dripping for months. The first time they came out, they sent out apprentices, and he fixed it temporally. It didn't last. Since he was here installed the parts in our toilet. He did charge something extra for doing that. After he left the drip was still there in the faucet. I called Sullivan's and they sent someone else out within a couple of days. That person said that they couldn't fix it. It needed new inside parts, it was a good faucet, and I thought there was a way to fix it, but it is still there. They were nice, pleasant, and polite. I thought for $100 they could have fixed a dripping faucet, it seemed basic. It was disappointing that they couldn't get it fixed. I thought it was going to cost too much money.

I can't say enough positive things about this company. My AC was on the blink and the Home Warranty service called a different company to come and fix it. The other company never showed or returned my phone calls. So I took advantage of an Angie's List discount with Sullivan Super Service. They gave me a window of when they would show up and then gave me a 45 minute notice of their arrival. They showed up on time with a clean truck and two professional, well groomed men in clean uniforms. I was impressed before they even started the work. These professionals knew what needed to be done and worked with my home warranty company to repair the AC. They got it done right with no shortcuts. My AC works better than ever and I am a very happy customer. They exceeded ALL my expectations! I highly, yes highly recommend their service!

The AC unit they "repaired" needed to be repaired again one year later. Their work was lousy and they threatened to charge me because they were having problems with the Home Warranty company paying them the balance. I hired a much better company the second time and that work has held up with flying colors.

Mr. [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry to hear you were having issues with your air conditioner. I do see we were out once for a repair in July of 2016. We would have gladly come out to see what the issue was for no charge. If it was something wrong with our repair we would have been able to fix it under warranty. Please feel free to reach out with any other concerns.

I purchased an Angie’s deal with Sullivan for a “toilet tune up and home plumbing inspection” which included: · $39 for a five-point toilet tune-up and comprehensive home plumbing inspection. · Five-point tune-up includes: inspecting and adjusting the fill valve, cleaning rim flush holes, replacing the worn flapper, adjusting the tank level operation, and a home plumbing inspection. When I called to schedule the work, I told the receptionist that I had a Kohler toilet that had been a problem (it keeps running after flushing) since it was installed about 1.5 years ago and that Kohler had sent me a set of “guts” for the toilet and that I wanted to use this deal to have the new guts installed. She scheduled the appt for Th, 6/16 between 8a-12p. When the plumber arrived, he told my husband that this type of work wasn’t covered on the deal and that it would cost $170 to replace the original guts w/the new set. Needless to say, my husband was quite perturbed, and I am infuriated. First of all, when I called to schedule the appointment and stated what I wanted the plumber to do, the receptionist said that was fine and when would be a good time to schedule the work. She didn’t say she needed to check with anyone as to whether or not this was covered under my Angie’s Deal purchase. When I told some friends that I had purchased a deal with Sullivan Plumbing, they warned me that it was probably going to turn out to be a bait-and-switch deal, that they would want more money for whatever they did. Well, guess I found that out myself. So, bottom line, I would never recommend Sullivan Plumbing to anyone. By the way, the plumber was a very nice person (per my husband’s impression, as I was not there), and this should not reflect on him. All said and done, he did adjust the water in the tank and said that should take care of the problem. I do hope he is right. Bottom line—I would not recommend Sullivan to anyone and will never use their services again.
Description of Work: I thought the plumber was going to install the new set of "guts" I had for a Kohler toilet in my bathroom, but when the plumber arrived, he said that this work was not covered by the Angie's Deal. He ended up adjusting the water level in the toilet tank. If we wanted him to install the new inners, it would cost an additional $170, which my husband did not agree to.

It was horrible. I actually sent them an email and told them I thought it was a rip off. They have a different version than I do but the guy showed up and actually my daughter-in-law was there, showed them what needed to be done and he did get the valve open but then tried to charge us $283, I believe was the number, for literally a $12 part at Home Depot. She said, 'No' and she said, 'What about the $100 credit?' He claimed he didn't know anything about that. When I sent Sullivan an email and told him that, they told me, the charge would have been $383, he discounted the $100 which to me makes it even more crazy. But, it is what it is. They got the valve open, I'll fix the commode myself. I was trying to avoid that but I just will never use them for anything again and I told them that. It was a great price except to me it was just a come-on to get you to spend a whole lot more money. They were very good about getting here and setting up the appointment. I can't complain there; they were responsive. And they answered my email were I complained very quickly as well. They were professional in that respect. I just think that the whole thing was a bit of a come-on. He was there within 10 or 15 minutes of when he said he was going to be there. When I talked to him on the phone, he was polite but didn't give me any satisfaction. He was professional so I would give him a B there. Unless my house was sinking and they were the only one in town I would not use them.

They were 2 hours late. I took off of work, so I wanted them to get it done. The workers were very nice and very professional. They did try to upsell us, which a lot of plumbers do. One of their quotes was a crazy price, especially considering how little work it would have been. You have to know when to say no. But we asked them to do an additional job, installing a faucet. I thought the price was a bit high, but the work took (both projects) about 2 hours, and with a little discount I was satisfied. I was happy with their service and I would use them again. I really liked the guys they sent. The $89 outdoor faucet replacement is a good deal.

I used the Angie's List deal credit for a minor bathroom remodel. Paul came to my house to provide an estimate - he was great to work with, and was able to offer me a price within my budget. The final cost was excellent, and the work done by Robert, their remodeler, was meticulous. The job turned out larger than expected but Sullivan stayed true to their estimate. Robert assisted me in selecting a hard-to-find sized vanity to fit my small bathroom went out of his way to pick up all material, and dispose of the old vanity and toilet as well!. I recommend Sullivan due to their responsiveness, fair pricing, staying true to their estimate, and quality workmanship.

During the second appointment, I had spoken with the tech and we discussed how long it would take and I asked him where his equipment was to clean the furnaces. He then told me that they do not do cleaning, they just check the furnaces to make sure everything is working properly. This upset me because it said in the details of the deal that it includes a cleaning and I didn't buy the deal just for them to check my two brand new furnaces, I purchased the deals mainly for the cleaning portion of the deal. I wouldn't have purchased these deals and would've gone with someone else if I had known and the fact that it said it included the cleaning in the deal is why I am unhappy.
Description of Work: I purchased 3 deals for Furnace tune-ups, which included cleanings. I had them come out twice for the service. I wasn't present for the first appointment, I had only spoken with them on the phone, but I was preset for the second appointment for the other 2 furnaces.

We contacted Sullivan and they are super! The gentleman that came out and met with my son was very personable, gave him tips on keeping the drain clean, charged a very reasonable fee, much less than I feared it would cost. I would use them again anytime I need a plumber! He actually called us back the same day, was there exactly when he said he would be (on a Sat. before a holiday no less) and took care of business. What more can you ask for? Super job by Sullivan Super Service!

They came to our home, and told us that our carbon monoxide levels were extremely high...however they didn't shut off the furnace, and didn't have a carbon monoxide detector. They told us we had a cracked heat exchanger, even though it had been checked upon moving into the home six months ago. They took our perfectly good HVAC system (they removed it from our property against our wishes, we told them to leave it) out and replaced it with a terrible product that is faulty, and no part of it was installed correctly, even though we were told that the technicians were "experts".

Response from Sullivan Super Service Plumbing Heating & Cooling
Our technician, Don Humenick visited our customers home on Monday January 11 to perform a safety inspection of the furnace. During the inspection Don determined that the heat exchanger was cracked and needed to be replaced. Don has had extensive training in the methods of detecting failure of a heat exchanger and applied those methods correctly while diagnosing this particular furnace. It was a 23 year old single stage Goodman furnace. He also contacted Bob Anderson, our senior technician to discuss what he was seeing before making this determination. He then contacted Gary Ciorra the Technical Service Manager from Johnstone Supply to confirm that he was making the correct decision. We set up an appointment for our Comfort Advisor, Glenn Reis to visit the home and discuss replacement options. Glenn visited the home on the evening of Monday January 11. The customer made the decision to replace the furnace, air conditioner, and humidifier. We arrived on Tuesday January 12 and replaced the equipment as requested. I asked our install crew to keep the furnace intact and return to our shop so it could be visually inspected by Gary Ciorra, the Technical Service Manager from Johnstone. Gary arrived at our facility on Friday January 15 at 8:00AM [Member Name Removed] inspected the heat exchanger and agreed that it was unsafe to operate. At this time we conducted a training with all of our available technicians to review the proper methods of detecting Heat Exchanger failure. We returned to the customer’s home on January 13 to correct a problem w/ a malfunctioning thermostat. The customer expressed concerns about the performance of the system. Glenn, in an extended conversation identified all of the customers concerns and scheduled a return visit. Caleb, our senior install technician returned to the home on January 19, and made adjustments and corrections to make sure the system was operating correctly. He was there for 4.5 hours. Glenn, our comfort advisor returned on January 20 and completed our follow-up checklist and identified several minor modifications. On this visit the customer stated that they were satisfied w/ the project. Caleb returned on February 4 to make some minor modifications. We take our customers safety very seriously at Sullivan Super Service. We take aggressive action to make certain that we are keeping our customers safe and also that we are making the correct decisions when conducting an inspection of their equipment. 1. All of our technicians are required to be NATE certified which insures that they are qualified to perform these inspections. 2. Our technicians participate in a weekly ongoing education program to keep them abreast of new tools, techniques and products that can benefit our customers. 3. We conduct specific heat exchanger detection training several times throughout the year to insure that all the technicians are aware of and practice safe and correct methods for inspections. 4. All technicians use a manual that documents hundreds of common furnace brands, common failures that occur and methods to properly diagnose each of these furnaces. (The Documentation Book of Furnace Heat Exchanger Failure). To produce a quality installation of equipment we follow the following process. 1. All our installation technicians are required to be NATE certified. This process ensures that our techs are well qualified. 2. The technicians complete a 3 page checklist as part of the installation process that is designed for the particular type of installation that they are engaged in. This increases the quality and completes of the installation. 3. The Installation Department meets weekly to review recent installs and discusses challenges, check on tools and equipment, and report on recent installs. 4. The Comfort Advisor returns to the customer home some time after the work is performed and completes a 22 point quality checklist to ensure that the system was installed properly and is functioning as expected. We are sorry that the customer is unhappy w/ the HVAC system that we installed. We have installed many similar systems w/ great results. We are willing and eager to return again to this customer and satisfy any remaining concerns they have.

Provider attempted to clear blockage several times. Couldn't use camera because drain was full of water. Since provider wasn't successful at clearing the blockage, he and my husband discussed alternatives. Provider attempted to charge us $50.00 for his services and at that time my husband interrupted him and said that wasn't the agreement with us, Angie's List and the Provider. We are not placing blame at all, it's just that the Provider didn't give my husband a chance to tell him we had a discount through Angie's List and the Provider's advertisement stated if they couldn't open the blockage then there wouldn't be a charge. The young man apologized and stated no charge as well as Angie's List refunded our credit card the discounted amount with no issues. We have used this Provider in the past and were very satisfied with their services and would definitely call upon them again. Thank You!

They were punctual, friendly, and professional. They were exorbitantly priced. To remove a toilet and put in a little shut-off valve for the toilet. It was $375 for the toilet and $195 for the valve. It took him an hour and a half. The deal that Angie's List has coming up with them is $250 to put a camera, and snake a sewer drain. My experience was, they wanted to sell me a new sewer. It would have cost $9000 just for inside the house, they'd have had to dig up the basement. The guy was a good salesman. We got a second opinion, and the guy said that we didn't need a new sewer. They are in the business of selling sewers. I would tell people if they say it's going to be a big job, get a second opinion. I would not use them again. I thought the prices were way out of line. As soon as I called them, they were right on top of it. I got someone else to come in and finish it. They did refund some of the money. They are not despicable. Their prices are ridiculous.

Very pleasant woman from Sullivan Service answered the phone and explained how they operate. They charge a $50 fee for coming out and then they provide an estimate. In my case they came out and said the stack was completely plugged and told me their fee would be over $800 to clean it out. I refused their services but of course they charged me $50 to come out. I then contacted another company (A1 Sewer). They came out, lifted the toilet, snaked the drain and found an obstruction about 24 feet down the drain, reinstalled the toilet and finished the job in about 20 minutes. They charged $175 which I thought was a little high but they were very professional and got the job done quickly. You make your own decision as to whether Sullivan Service is crooked.
