I am responding to a home inspection report for a house that I am selling. The faucet leaked and was old. I called on Monday, the scheduling and administrative coordination was excellent. The had a technician out at 9:00 am the next morning. They supplied the part at my request and the job was completed in about an hour. The technician was willing to help me solve another problem about a water leak from the roof which I could never have figured out myself. He was great.

This work was done professionally and with patience even though it had unforeseen complications.
Description of Work: Our upstairs sink had backed up into the bathtub. Called at 9am. Brian was there by 11:30. After snaking upstairs we went downstairs to find water all over the kitchen floor. Apparently the snaking had pushed clogged material farther down and stopped up the downstairs sink off the kitchen which spilled over on to kitchen floor. Thus job became more complicated and certainly took longer. Horizon stuck by their "$99 special" which they informed me of when I called. Otherwise, it would have cost 3 times as much! A wet vac and patient work brought success.

After getting several quotes, we decided to go with Horizon because (1) they could start right away and claimed to have a large enough crew to complete the work in 2 days (2) Their price was as good or better than most quotes, and there was no need to make a payment for a year, and (3) The sales person claimed that they did several jobs in our township and were very familiar with township code and permits. After signing the contract, that's the last we saw or heard from our sales person. When we tried to contact him with an issue that came up, he directed us to the "field manager". The day started up OK. The workers showed up on time and placed covering on the floors to protect the floors as they moved around the house. The first problem occurred at around 10 AM when the township inspector arrived. Horizon did not get a permit, and were forced to stop all work for the day. In addition, because the inspector was quite upset he found other work (kitchen upgrade, completely unrelated to the AC) we had done the previous month that did not get permitted and inspected, he gave us a hefty fine. The next day, they returned with the permit and continued to work. This was now a Thursday and on Friday, instead of completing the work as promised, they left at ~3 PM only to return Monday to complete the work. Overall, their work was fairly tidy but they did leave a couple vents uncovered. Also, a couple of the workers smoked on the job (outside the house) and we found cigarette buts after they left. As soon as we started using the AC, we realized that the air was not balanced appropriately. We called them (first called the sales contact, who had no clue), and first they told us to open up the vents to balance the air. We of course had already tried this and eventually they agreed to come out (2 weeks later) and balance the system using their instruments. To this day, there are a couple of rooms that still cool inefficiently but we don't know if they would be willing to do anything more at this point. We eventually did get an inspection of their work that we arranged ourselves (an energy audit). The auditor said that although their installation was technically according to code, there were a couple of instances that they should have used straight ducts and not flexible ducts--apparently the flexible duct is much easier to install but can reduce air flow and thus reduce the efficiency of cooling.
Description of Work: Installed two new AC compressors. Installed 2 new air handling units, one in the basement and one in the attic. Installed additional ducts. Removed old units.

The technician arrived on time. He was very courteous and professional, and of course, wore his little paper booties to protect my carpeting. He diagnosed the problem in short order, and gave me an estimate. In addition to the estimate to repair the water heater, he also gave me a price to replace the unit. He discouraged replacing the unit as my unit was only about 18 months old. When he was finished, he suggested that I contact the manufacturer as this problem should not happen with such a relatively new unit. he cleaned up the area and was on his way in less than 90 minutes, start to finish.
Description of Work: About a month after buying my first home, I started noticing that my hot water was not very hot. I called Horizon after having used them on a previous plumbing issue. Horizon replaced the heater elements in my gas hot water heater.

I now have a very good water heater and a washtub sink that doesn't take up a lot of space. They cleaned up after themselves and took away the old appliances which was great. I was disappointed that it took two days to actually get the heater installed and that I had to call them back to fix the leaky faucet and reversed hoses. They were almost an hour late for the first appointment but for the subsequent visits they arrived well within the window of time they gave me. I was given discounts on the work done which was helpful.
Description of Work: They removed my leaking water heater and installed a new one. They replaced the cutoff valve for the water heater which was not functioning, removed and replaced a double sink and the faucet hookups for my washer. They also installed new washer hoses and a faucet for the wash tub and cleaned out the drain.

He and his helper Wayne did a fabulous job. There was some miscommunication about arrival times but that was basically due to playing phone tag with the company. The only other problems were getting the right supplies because of the pipes that had to be replaced. They covered their shoes when they came and did the work professionally and timely in one day. And they worked very h****** the upstairs sink, because I could hear them. But eventually they did get the sink unplugged. When they left, the laundry room was cleaner than when the went in. I was very happy with their work and I'm gave their name and number to my sister for a leak she has in her house.
Description of Work: The plumber who worked for me was Steve Wichlinski. He cleaned out a sewer drain, put in new sewer pipe, Installed a new sink in laundry room, a standpipe and put in two new hoses to my washer. Replaced pipes under the kitchen sink and vented them. Replaced faucet for my kitchen sink and unplugged bathroom sink.

My furnace had been unable to maintain a consistent temperature for several weeks for several weeks before I finally called the Horizon service department. They were very accommodating to my work schedule and sent someone out to diagnose/repair my furnace the next afternoon. Unfortunately my furnace was beyond repair-I was a bit skeptical but the technician took the time and showed me the corrosion and the holes in the pipes and explained that my furnace was not safe to use. He called his office and got a sales representative to come to my house that evening. The sales rep even brought out space heaters. He took the time to explain all the different furnace models and why it would save me money to replace my air conditioner at the same time(I was planning to replace the air conditioner in the spring anyway). The sales rep did not try to sell me the most expensive model-and steered me into a less expensive one because it was a better fit for my house. The best part was that they were able to schedule the work to be done the very next day. A team of three showed up early and worked hard all day in a very cold basement. They were neat and cleaned up after themselves-I think my basement floor was cleaner when they left than before they started. Over all every member of the Horizon team made the experience of a major unexpected home repair very pleasant.

The technician explained what types of humidifiers were available for our furnace and showed the exact prices for installation. We selected the model that would be right for our house size and design. Based on the professionalism of the technician and Horizon's rating, I signed for a one-year service agreement. Then we made an appointment for humidifier installation ... just two working days of waiting time (much quicker than I anticipated). The technician arrived on the scheduled date. He removed the old humidifier and installed the new one. As work progressed, he kept inspecting for possible problem areas ... there were none. He showed me how the unit operated and how to adjust the controls. He wore clean boot covers at all times when inside the house. The area was clean and dry after the work was finished. It has been 3 weeks since the installation and the unit has performed very well ... keeping the humidity throughout the house at the control set-point.
Description of Work: We needed to have our whole-house humidifier replaced. I searched Angie's List and contacted several A-rated HVAC companies and three responded. Horizon was the only one that called ... the two others gave e-mail prices but they were way out of line (over $900). Horizon gave an estimate within range of what I received last year (from 2 other companies) when I first thought of having the work done. An appointment was made to have a technician inspect the furnace and give an exact price.

Replaced a new heat pump w/electric backup and new thermostat. My old unit was 27 years old and was still running but I didn't want to be caught in the middle of the winter with no heat. I called Horizons because of the good rating on Angie's List plus they offered no financing for one year. The sales person came out on a holiday weekend and was on time and was very thorough with everything. I had the unit installed a couple of days later. The guys showed up on time, were very professional and cleaned up and hauled away the old equipment.

At first the service went well, and then 2 days later it was clogged again. I called on a Saturday morning. We called them because they promise a 1 hour response time. They were polite and clean, however they did not make it in their 1 hour response time. They did keep good on their $99 price, even though they used a camera service that was quite a bit more expensive. The reason for the overall negative grade is that they didn't fix the problem or try to come back and fix it after speaking to them on the phone.
Description of Work: We had a plugged sewer line. We couldn't use any of our water because it was flooded. We hired Horizon to clear the sewer lines.

Very responsive and on time. Price for water heater was competitive but, price for new furnace and AC was DOUBLE that of the person I am going with. If you are interested in being strung along a sales pitch and lied to about facts then call them. The sales guy at the end kept pestering me about what other quotes I got and, with who and how much and almost became obsessed when he realized I knew better. I had to ask him to stop asking me all these questions and leave. Very unprofessional.

Overall, we were satisfied with the service. The first day, they called me the evening before and rescheduled. They rescheduled a couple of days later and then showed up on time. Our neighbors line run right next to ours and they accidentally bent their line. They replaced our neighbors portion of the line at no charge and left a note for them.
Description of Work: They performed some outdoor excavating. We had a leaky water pipe coming into our home. They had to dig up a part of our lawn and repair the pipeline.

There was originally a discrepancy in price, but they did correct it. The job took over an hour to perform, which seemed a bit long for this type of job. I was also a bit disappointed in the fact that my home warranty company did not cover the work due to the fact that I had not called them first. Not the fault of the company, I just wonder if they were aware of this as a practice. I also asked the technician about a switch on the HVAC unit. I was advised not to touch it, but not given an explanation as to why. Overall, the price was a bit high and they could have been a bit more detailed about their work.
