They didn?t misrepresent anything. The only drawback is that, I had a humidifier put in and they didn?t explain to me, that the water running through it wasn?t being recycled. Otherwise, they explained, everything else to me. They were good in cleaning up, after the job and the technicians were very pleasant and easy to work with. They have also done work for my neighbor and the church. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

Called Horizon at Noon on Monday. Received a time frame of 2-6 pm for a technician to come out. Received a call at 2:05 pm that a technician was available. Brian was our very friendly and knowledgeable drain guru. He explained everything he was going to do in detail and then did it quickly and efficiently. He installed an indoor drain clean-out in our basement sewer line as well as removed a clog down by the street. Although the job took about 3 hours, it was still cheaper and a better experience then I ever could have imagined.
Description of Work: Main drain clog cleared. Internal clean-out installed.

It was pretty good. The service was good but the pricing wasn't so great. They came down on their pricing eventually and gave me the right price. They came within a day's time to do the work. They seem to be too overpriced.

I had called them in response to an ad they sent for a heating system tuneup and inspection. The ad was a letter from the owner offering a deal on the 21 point tune-up in hopes of getting new customers. The system was installed in 2003 by another company. It's a natural gas forced air system. I bought the house in 2008 and had not had a tune-up on the heating system since then. Not sure what the service record was between 2003 and 2008. I set up an appointment and the window was set for 12pm-2. I got a call 20min before the service person arrived as promised. The service person arrived at 1:45pm. He was courteous and pleasant and even put on shoe covers as he walked in. I mentioned that the combustion motor sounded rough at times. The system was running at the time and I said it sounded fine, I didn't hear the roughness. He stayed for an hour after which he said everything was fine except the blower motor capacitor which is supposed to be 5 microfarad was reading around 4. I asked him for the repercussion of not changing it to which he said it could damage or overheat the blower motor which would be $700 to replace. He said it was $125 to replace the capacitor. It seemed high to me but I trusted him(I really want to trust people) and asked him to replace it. He also replaced the air filter as part of the tuneup. Replacing the capacitor took maybe a minute. His notes from the bill, "Clean and check gas furnace. Adjusted gas psi, inspect heat exchanger, checked blwr mtr + cap. Replaced air filter and check safety. System is OK." In the recommendation section, "blower cap replaced" I paid him(credit card) and he left. After he left it was bugging me that it was $125 for a capacitor so I went back to the heating system, it's a Lennox Elite Series, and I found the capacitor. I saw that it was replaced because it had a a date of Jun 18, 2010 on the sticker, the part number was also visible on the sticker 29OGASD050QHCM9. I googled it and found a site selling it for $18. http://shortyshvac.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1313 It's even the same brand Mars. I called Horizon back, told them I found the part they charged me $125 for around $10. The person who answered the phone asked me to hold on. After she came back she said she took all my information down and that a manager was not available and that in fact some of them had just gone to a meeting(convenient) but they would call me back. She checked that my home number was a good number to call me back at. I'm not holding my breath but will call back tomorrow to let them know I'm reporting them to BBB and about this Angie's list review. I expect there's some markup on parts but going from $18 to $125 seems outrageous to me.

Installation seemed to go well, they had to redo venting in the basement so it took longer then they had planned. The air conditioner has been fine so far but, since installation, the furnace has been leaking oil non stop. They have been out to fix it 8 times and are always very nice and apologetic and always assure me that is is completely fixed when they leave. They have even replaced the burner. The whole house reeks with the stench of oil for hours after every repair visit and the furnace still leaks. We're at the point where, immediately after they leave, we put a pan under the burner to collect the oil drips so we can show them the next time we call them for yet another repair visit. They have not offered to completely switch out the furnace although I am beginning to think this is what needs to happen. We will, of course, call them after the next pan fills up with oil. Probably a month from today. I will update this review.

As stated above, this was an extremely positive experience with Horizon and in particular, Jason, the technician who installed the new thermostat
Description of Work: From start to finish, this was a professional and very positive experience. I've never used Horizon before but felt comfortable with them from all the positive reviews on Angie's List. I bought a digital thermostat from Home Depot to replace the round analog one that's been on my wall for years. My furnace is only about 5 years old but wanted to upgrade my 'stat' to save some money. I pride myself on being a great DIY'er, but the wires on my old stat didn't correspond to stuff listed in the directions on the digital one I bought. There were various wires that acted as jumpers which completely threw me off when trying to install the new one. To the rescue, Horizon! After calling in the morning, a technician (Jason) arrived at my house on the early side of the time frame quoted to me on the phone. After looking at my furnace, he determined that one of the wires wasn't even needed and if I tried to attach it, the circuit board would be fried to a crisp! That said, the price I paid was worth every cent and then some!! In about 20 minutes, the new thermostat was humming along and life was good. From this point forward, Horizon will be my 'go to' company for any sort of heating/AC work. Hopefully, that won't be anytime in the near future!

It went ok, however it was far too expensive. They also recommended I replace a hot surface igniter for my furnace. I asked the technician to show me the part, it took him about 30 seconds to open the unit back up and remove the part. He gave me a price of $350 to replace it with a new one he had in his truck. I declined, thinking that seemed a bit pricey for the level of work he had to do. After doing a little bit of research, I found that I could get the part from Grainger for about $25 and install it myself! I won't be using them again......

This company has tried to overcharge, play on fear and then do damage control. They are extremely punctual, I will give them that, and someone always answers the phone, but the rest...ugh. I called them a few times to do work because I purchased the Gold Program (gives you discounts), but just asked for a full refund for those costs and have a new plumber. Service When I first needed A/C service, I called Horizon because of some of the ratings on here. They refilled our freon and said unit was old, but we COULD take the tack of refilling freon frequently. I bought the Gold Program Contract because the serviceman said I could have service on the A/C at a reduced rate. Next year, we refilled freon again. On the receipt, but not verbal instructions, their is a directive to check for a freon leak. The air handler ends up leaking and ruining our ceiling. Ok, I'll give that miscommunication (they didn't emphasize the urgency, I was rushed getting out the door...) HOWEVER, the guy who came out to give me an estimate for a new unit, while polite and punctual, basically tried to put the fear of God into us and gave us the highest estimate (by thousands) of all given to us (I sought other estimates after his - it seemed high). He lowered the estimate by a thousand AFTER I said I would get more estimates...that's just shady. Our boiler needed service. They cleaned it. I asked why it was done so quickly (I have had this done before, it usually takes a while to clean everything). "No, you're good." I haven't turned on my heat yet, here's to hoping... I made an appointment to ensure my plumbing was all ready for a new dishwasher to be installed. I was told to do that by Sears. The guy who came out, could not comprehend what we meant. He kept trying to sell us an install that was 250% more than Sears'. He told us he didn't know what needed to be done, because the plumbing was behind the dishwasher. Um, pull the dishwasher out. We even offered to pull the thing out. He went, after several urgings to the basement to see how it was hooked up. The drama began. The conversation was something like, "we have no idea how your new dishwasher goes in, what kind of prep you're going to need, it's going to be expensive to reroute everything " I said, this doesn't seem right. It wasn't. The TWO plumbers I called after these people left - also on Angie's List- knew IMMEDIATELY what kind of installation had been done and what my new dishwasher needed. One even accurately described it over the phone to me and told me what he was going to do. Something like, "Oh, if it drains in the floor - no problem. We'll take a look and handle it. Kenmore's need part X, make sure you have that." So, either Horizon doesn't know what they are doing, or they were trying to gouge me (their estimate to prepare for dishwasher install was FIVE times what the other guys are estimating) or both. Professionalism A guy comes out and stands on the closet shelf in my daughters closet to get access to our air handler (we DO have a small access cut out, but don't stand on a shelf) - it broke, broke the things that hold up the shelf. It was FIVE months when they finally sent us a $50 Home Depot card for a new shelf. Lauren, service manager, claims they will pay for the install, but five months?? When I had the problem with the dishwasher line prep (getting plumbing ready for a new dishwasher) and the serviceman claimed he didn't know what to do (unless he did 1000 dollars worth of work, then he would know) I called Horizon. I spoke to a phone answerer who suggested that the serviceman call his supervisor. I told the service guy, who persisted in saying that he had no idea what to do,, to call his supervisor. Jack, the supervisor, was backing his serviceman saying there was no way to know how the Kenmore dishwasher I bought would be installed, so they had no idea what to do. I said, I could just pull the installation stuff offline. I pulled the installation instructions. He got angry and told me to find another plumbing company. I did! The new guys are great - and just completed the work for $200 (versus the $1000 Horizon estimate) doing everything Horizon had on its estimate. I feel bad for Lauren, service manager, who has to keep cleaning up after these guys. She is nice enough, but I need plumbing done, without high-pressure sales or attitude.

The fellow seemed to know what he was talking about but the estimate was not reasonable. They were wildly overpriced. We are sorry that you were unhappy with the quote that you were given to replace your furnace. We strongly believe that each of our customers should receive a certain level of service and care that we hold to be a standard. We find value in forming actual relationships with our customers and not just replacing and servicing their equipment. Many factors go in to determining the price of a new furnace. As related to our pricing structure, we advise all customers to be aware of the equipment that is being installed as well as the included services and warranties. Often times, these additional benefits are overlooked and not considered when reviewing the final cost of a replacement project. Once again, we are sorry to hear of your experience but appreciate your valuable feedback.

I used a plumber from Horizon, Tom Girone, and was very happy with his service. I felt that the price was average. I liked the quality and professionalism that Tom exuded. Most recently, I wanted a vanity replaced. We purchased the vanity at Home Depot. I asked Tom to come and provide me an estimate. He wanted over $800 to install the vanity (that included a discount). I was very shocked with this amount. He broke down what he was going to do, but it seemed very outrageous to me. Tom knew that I was disappointed with the estimate and passed this feedback along to Horizon. They didn't end-up contacting me regarding my concern. I ended-up calling my old plumber to install the vanity for me. The cost was only $250.00 and he did an outstanding job. If I were in a pinch and needed immediate attention and service, I would call Horizon. I would just have to expect to pay more for the service.

The service person checked my AC which stopped working recently. He found the problem and gave me a quote that I have to think about it. He refused to accept the coupon I got from Angie's List. The salesperson came to my house several days later. He is very lukewarm, didn't speak much, and didn't appear to be very knowledgeable. I explained my situation in detail and was expecting an education and full product introduction. He couldn't answer some of my questions, and had no product brochures. In the end he pointed me to some price from a table and left. What a waste of time.

We've used Horizon in the past and found them to be more expensive than most, but they perform high quality work. Apparently, the technician that came to out home this time has X-ray vision because he recommended replacing our ejector pump, at $1700, without bothering to look at it. He even concluded that the one we had was low quality and not properly installed (???). Because we are not complete idiots, we had a plumber come in from one of Horizon's competitors. He took the time to look at the pump, noted it was simply clogged, and fixed it in 5 mimutes. He explained what happened, how we could prevent it from happening again in the future and that the pump was top of the line and proeprly installed. ALL AT NO CHARGE. What is astonishing about all this is that we are preferred clients of Horizon. We actually paid an annual rate to have preferential service. I guess that means they try to cheat us first. Horizon is fine if you are replacing things, but buyer beware if its a repair.

Overall a very satisfactory experience. We replaced our aging gas furnace and AC with new units. We met with an advisor first who walked us through the options re size/capacity/price of the new units. We felt we were guided to an appropriate choice and not pressured to install a unit with greater capacity or cost than we needed. There was a Lennox manufacturer's rebate and a Horizon rebate on offer (we have a service plan with Horizon that seems pretty cost-effective), which reduced the price considerably - I forget exactly how much but it was about $3000, Because it was January we wanted to move fast and did not get alternative estimates from other furnace manufacturers or dealers, which explains the B rating in price - I don't know if we could have got this done cheaper. However, we wanted to ensure we got a proper professional installation, and that's exactly what we did get. The installers were prompt, professional, and did the installation in about half a day, leaving no mess. Later in the year, Horizon contacted us to send out someone to test the AC unit and prepare it for use before the summer, as part of the installation service. Overall we have been very pleased with the work done, and continue to use Horizon.

Keith was punctural, professional, and quoted from his job book. Since I had used Horizon Services before to install two HVAC systems in another house, and they did an excellent job, I did not question their prices for the service or the necessity for the additional two valves until later. Keith performed the services well and quickly. However, the cost was very high.
Description of Work: Valve from outside water main was leaking. Keith bypassed the old leaking valve and installed a new one. Then he added two more valves in order to install/replace a whole house filter. He did an excellent job, but the addition of the two valves may not have been necessary to install the filter.

We actually did not have the repair done through them because it was covered under insurance and they insurance company had another company they use. Horizon Services came out with the other company to show them what they found and the other company did the repair that Horizon would have done.
Description of Work: Came to clean the sewer pipe from from the house to the main sewer drain. He sent out the next day the guy with the camera to check the pipe. They found that the pipe was broken. He came back another day just to take another look to make sure he did not miss anything. So in all we had two guys come out a total of three times of just one payment of $99. Very knowledgeable team!
