This was pretty much an emergency repair since the drain line was leaking through the downstairs ceiling and Horizon was as very responsive. From the time I made the call until repairs were complete was about 6 hours, and this was no small job. The entire drain system down to the main line was replaced due to corrosion in the original piping. The technician was skilled and very professional. Once we got the paperwork done he was on the job. My only negative comments would be; I thought the price was a little high but I have no basis for comparison and professionalism only takes a hit because I really could have done without the sales pitch for their service contract.

Description of Work: This company u need to be very careful.i received a check up plan on my central air so the tech came out to my house and checked everything out with great detail and I was very happy with him . So now my brother lives next door has a problem with his a.c. So I tell him hey give horizon a call they seem pretty good. He calls them and tech comes out and says he needs a capicior and this will be roughly $800.00. So my brother says wow ok so if I don't want to be hot and live uncomfortable all night this is what I have to do.. Tech says yep this is what u need if u want cold air . Because my brother is in the trades he calls around first to c if this is fair and a steam fitter freind finda a capacitor for him for about $12.00 that's right 12 bucks. He also tells him how to put it on I think it was 4 screws and he was done. Said it took him about 10 minutes. Cold air is on and has been the rest of the summer.so here I am thinking here's a good company give them a try and they pull stunts like this.. Funny because I just seen a special on dateline NBC and it was all about how people are getting ripped off by company's like this . In fact a coulple of the scams were they say u need a new capacitor . And some they just make up broken parts . They had hidden cameras on the units . It was pretty much the same thing that they tried to do to my brother and his family.IN MY OPINION THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF AND BUYER BEWARE? They sent out two techs who were very polite and keep the area they were working in clean. They cleaned and added freon to my unit and informed of some parts which were worn out, but given the age of the unit (30+) I delclined and will be looking to have the unit replaced. Given my experience I will get a quote for new unit from Horizon. I would recommend them for service and maintenance to your A/C unit.

The service is excellent. They are very professional and do things very neatly. They are also knowledgable. The only downside is that they are kind of expensive. They do guarantee everything though. They came out to fix a faucet at no cost. They also come quickly and on time.

Overall, the tech was very polite. As for his expertise, I was very leary and decided to only get the freon charge. The other services I declined as I thought they were very expensive.
Description of Work: Our AC unit was not working correctly as the house was very hot and the unit was only blowing warm air. The Horizon technician was on time and very polite. He checked the unit inside and outside. He found there was no freon in the system, but wasn't sure if it was a leak. He did further work and came back with the capacitor was bad, along with the contactor and condensation pump. However, he said it was freezing in the inside which explained the water on the floor. The only problem is the water was from the condesation pump not working. He offered to fix for a cost of $575! The other items included above was an estimate provided for over $2,000! They also gave me a quote to run a leak test for $870! Now the total is close to 3,000. The bottom line is I bought a brand new condensation pump at Home Depot for $45 and paid my neighbor $40 to hook it up. Done! No water on the floor. I don't mind someone making a profit, but I do mind gouging! As for the rest, I declined all services and contacted another HVAC company. The ac is now fixed for a cost of $225. I will never recommend this company.

Horizon Services sales consultant Nick Spina was impressive the moment he introduced himself to us. He took the time to come over to our property later in the afternoon/evening hours since our work schedules could not allow us to meet during the day. Nick was respectful to not only our home and property, but treated myself and my spouse equally; never focusing on just one of us to speak with. Above all of this, he was respectful and kind to our dogs and was patient with us. Horizon Services presented what we felt was a solid quote for the Geothermal work and the products they selected was exactly what our own research indicated was the best quality for our home. While Horizon Services' price was slightly higher than most quotes we had obtained for the job, they included a maintenance and warranty plan that no other contractor was able to compete with: 12 years! This sealed the deal for us as it spoke to the confidence the company had in its work and the products they installed. Furthermore, the well driller Horizon selected for the job was one we had past dealings with and very positive experiences: Powell Drilling. *Before I go any further it is important to mention that all Horizon Services and Powell Drilling employees showed our home with respect immediately upon entering: Each employee placed boot covers on their shoes and laid droop cloths across all traffic areas throughout the home. Not a single employee from either company stepped foot into our home, even once, without boot covers over their shoes. So my sincere thanks for each and every single one of the two company's employees: Thank you! The project kicked off quickly and accommodated our schedules perfectly. Powell obtained all needed permits for drilling and was on-site personally to conduct full lawn measurements, draw diagrams, and explain the entire process to us step-by-step. And while there are always risks associated with drilling holes into the earth, Powell's knowledge, experience, and reputation set our minds at ease that we had selected the best company in the area for the job. The well drilling process could not have gone any more perfect or smoother. The Powell workers came on-site and were respectful to our home and property and kept us informed of every step of the process and how it was progressing. When it was all done, they delivered exactly what they had promised: Two Geothermal wells at 325ft below ground, a ground loop into the home, and a smooth grade on our lawn ready for grass seeding. Once Powell was done with the ground loop, Horizon wasted no-time scheduling the installation of the equipment. Horizon showed up right-on-schedule as promised and began with what we believed was the most difficult and satisfying part of the entire project: cutting and removing our old heating oil tank and system. They made the dismantling and removal of our old clunky energy-draining systems seem simple. Installation went very smoothly and took 2.5 days from start to finish. The employees worked well into the late afternoon and evening every single day, with Powell's employees coming on the evening of the second day to prime the ground loop and finish the pipes into the flow center -- staying until 10PM to get the job done! Each and every step of the way I had questions. And never once was I disappointed with the responses from Horizon Services' employees. If the employee did not have an answer for me immediately, they radioed into the office and got it for us. There was a service manager on-site every work day to check-in and observe the work being performed. All-in-all, we felt very informed and very aware of all activities being performed within our home and never once asked ourselves: What are they doing down there? Nick kept in contact with us to ensure the job was going according to our expectations. On the final day I wanted to add a last minute addition to the installation. The Horizon employee radioed the request into the office and within an hour Nick called me back and had the part being delivered to our home! When the work was complete, the Horizon Services installation staff walked us through the whole system, how it worked, what every component was, and answered every single question we had asked. They spent a long while cleaning up and when the job was done our basement had never been more clean than when they left it. In the end, we do not have a single complaint or negative comment about this experience and our dealings with Horizon Services. They performed above expectations and the system has performed equally. Horizon Services has our absolute deepest thanks for making a very large complex project within our home so very easy and so very flawless. I strongly recommend this contractor!
Description of Work: After our last large-scale house project of installing Solar panels, we were ready for our next big green project: Geothermal heating and cooling for our home. So we began the project like we do all major home projects: on Angie's List. We brought in half a dozen contractors with excellent scores on Angie's List for interviews and quotes. We had a disappointment or two and some very good bids. But when the process was done we selected Horizon Services as our contractor of choice. After conducting our own exhaustive research into Geothermal pumps, setups, etc we had a very good idea of what systems and brand of products we wanted. Initial service visit was prompt as was estimator. Work was performed as scheduled two days after the estimate. The total cost was expensive but the crew made sure everything was right. Installed new ductwork to ensure return air flow was correct, staying much longer than initially predicted to complete the extra work without charging more than the estimate (on a Saturday no less). Calls to office were courteously received. The installed equipment is working well and is more efficient, as promised. I am well satisfied with the service and the company.

Overall Horizon is unethical with their pricing and lacks competent service people who just like to pull out price books.
Description of Work: I used Horizon to service my air conditioning system before I moved into my new home purchase. They serviced my AC units for about $835.00 after the coupon. Several weeks later my systems failed. Horizon was quick to respond and told me my compressor had failed and told me it would be several thousand to repair. They also suggested I meet with their sales person for a complete new system for another $8000 because my system was 10 years old. After getting a 2nd opinion, learned that during thr heat wave my breaker tripped. A new part was installed for just under $250.00. Horizon followed up to see if we were going forward with install. I explained my experience to a customer service rep. He said someone else from Horizon would be on touch regarding the service persons and sales persons trying to sell me a unit not needed. Of course I never heard back. I will never recommend Horizon. Perhaps they should spend less on advertising on every bus, billboard and turnpike sign and spend more on training and ethic!

I receive a lot of mail from Horizon and I guess I finally submitted to the advertising blitz and decided to give them a shot. I submitted an online request for contact on a Sunday afternoon and a representative got back to me first thing Monday morning, which was good. I explained the work I need done and the time frame I was looking to have it done in (late July early August). He proceeded to inform me that Horizon does not perform duct work during the summer and that I would have to wait until fall to have any duct work done. I asked why, and his response was that they did not have the man power for a 4-5 day job. This doesn't make sense because Horizon advertises having a large fleet of 200 trucks and technicians. I have had smaller companies look at the job and have no problem with the time frame. I don't understand how this company has survived turning down big dollar jobs.
Description of Work: I am in the process of gathering quotes from various HVAC installers for a new system install. I am in the market for all new systems including all new duct work.

Invited them out to give me an estimate on a new air conditioner and gas furnace. They recommended a heat pump with a gas furnace backup. I agreed with their suggestion and told them I would think about it. In the meantime, I called a few other companies for estimates, in one case for the same exact equipment. What I found was that they were dramatically overpriced, by about 15 to 20%!!! When the sales person stopped back at the house and I informed him of this, his attitude changed quite a bit. Needless to say, I will never bother to call Horizon Services for any type of work in the future! Beware!

Description of Work: I needed a cold water line installed for our new refrigerator's ice maker. The company was great over the phone and I was very impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness. I called and they were able to come out the next day. But, that day happened to be a Saturday and the gentleman was scheduled to come between 10-2 and he showed at 8:45 am! They did call ahead to let me know that their technician was on the way (which was great!), but I was just not ready for him THAT early! The technician was friendly and professional but I just could not afford their services at that time. I know he was trying to give me the best deal he could but it just was not in my budget. I will however call Horizon to complete the services when I can afford it.

A customer who pre-pays for a service contract should be treated better, and the company should know their business and schedule these tune-up appointments appropriately within the season.
Description of Work: I purchased a service contract. Horizon did not call me to schedule an appointment to service my air conditioners, as promised in the contract. When I call them the 2nd week of June, there were no appointments available for 3 weeks, and no evening appointments available for 6 weeks. I have scheduled an appointment for August, well into the summer and use of the units, and I'm hoping that my air conditioners don't breakdown in the meantime.

My second incident in the same week involved my HVAC. The condenser to the AC was not blowing, so I called Horizon on Monday, May 28th. I was told I could get someone out to look at it on Monday, June 4th. I explained I had a service contract and had been a loyal customer but was told 7 days was the earliest someone would be available. Since it was in the 90's, I called George H. Burns who was there the next day. Thank God I did. Burns looked at the condensor and said there was nothing wrong with it. They then looked at the furnace while I shadowed them. The tech quickly showed me two lines disconnected that would cause the condenser not to work. The last person in the furnace was a Horizon tech in December during one of their free service calls you get with your contract who was trying to sell a new unit, but just sold me a new motor instead. Was I set up for a spring/summer service call deliberately? You be the judge.
Description of Work: In January 2011, Horizon replaced/repaired the main sewer line outside the house for close to $6000.00. Since that repair, I have been plagued by sewer / drain flies. After having Western exterminator company deal with this and dealing with the pests on my own for over a year, Western said the real source of the problem lies in the plumbing and the pipes. The master bath is the main problem area. Horizon has been to the home 4 times in just the past month. I will say, the plumbers are responsive enough, pleasant enough and treat your home with respect; however, after the last visit they said simply they have no idea where the source of the drain flies is or how to treat them. I would have expected that this be elevated to the next level given that the same plumbers came to the house each time. It cannot possibly be the first time Horizon has had to deal with drain flies and I would expect a company of this size to escalate the issue to someone possibly with more expertise rather than say, "we have no idea". After all, it is only after they 'sleeved' a sewer line that this problem occurred. Very disappointing. I have even maintained a service contract with them year after year and find out that my service just ends with a "we have no idea".

I would not recommend them to anybody else. I'm waiting for my contract with them to run out.

After checking the size of both furnance and condenser, counting registers/returns as well looking at main breaker panel, his visit turned into Let's Make a Deal about the pricing and not being to use the coupon I had from the mail, etc. He put three configurations on a piece of paper: silver, gold and platinum. No model numbers, sizing, or BTUs; just prices and the number 5/5, 8/8 and 10/10. The lowest quote was $4,000 over another quote for what turned out to be a Lennox. To this day, I am still not sure of the model number at all. After the visit, I emailed him today and asked for references, model numbers and asked if he could quote me other manufacturers such as Carrier, American Standard and Payne. He told me since they don't give out any customers names to look on Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau as well as their website for recommendations. As for the other manufacturers all of which they claim to install according to their wonderful website (except Payne which is made by Carrier), he told me they only install Lennox or Trane. I guess bigger is not necessarily better.
Description of Work: A called was placed for a load calculation. New A/C and aging furnance to be replaced.

They were called for a particular repair, and the first service man that came had absolutely no idea what our system was. I will give him points for being honest enough to say that he didn’t have a clue on how our system worked, and that they had sent the wrong person. Then it took another couple or three hours before they could get somebody here who did in fact know. We had called on a Saturday night, and the first gentleman did get here promptly on Sunday morning, about nine thirty, but couldn’t do anything. It was some time after that, when somebody else actually showed up. They recommended a fair number of things that they thought we needed to do, which we opted not to do. Eventually, they did repair the unit, it worked and it’s held up. Both the gentlemen who came were very polite, very professional, and very good. I thought that the actual service people were very good, the fact that they couldn’t get their act together and get the right person here caused us to wait for the second repair man. They didn’t charge us for the second visit, and they shouldn’t have, because they screwed up.
Description of Work: We use Horizon Services, Inc. for our heating and air conditioning services. The last time they were here was in response to our complaint.
