I was having furnace problems, Horizon technician looked at the problem and told me I needed a new inducer motor. At their suggestion, I replaced the inducer motor. 3 days later, the furnace failed completely, they came out again and told me I needed a new furnace because the heat exchanger was cracked. I asked Horizon to refund the purchase of the inducer motor, and they refused. I got a competing bid for the new furnace from Sila, and Sila's price for the same exact furnace was $2000 less than Horizon's. Horizon mis-diagnosed the problem with my furnace, and refused to stand behind their work.

Horizon came for an $89 furnace cleaning that I got an ad for. They did a good job, and said that the furnace did get wet at some point in time before I bought the house (they were right, the house was repo'ed by bank and the electric turned off). The did say there were some things wrong with the furnace as a result. I've already spent several hundred dollars fixing the furnace last year with another company, and decided to cover my bases and get a quote for a new furnace. Horizon was very polite, but their price for a new furnace was completely outrageous. We said no thank you and will not be using them for our new furnace.

Issue was my heat kept cycling on/off (gas heater 10 yrs old). Temp wouldn't go above 67F. First maintenance man came out troubleshot and said I needed a new pressure sensor $166, put it in still had same issue. Same guy says that its a pressure issue and that he'd replace. Still same issue. Then said it was a smart gas valve and that the cost is gonna be $707 after a $50 coupon. Part had to be ordered. Second maint. man comes out, puts in smart gas valve and same issue, heat still cycling off doesn't meet the thermostat temp. He starts troubleshooting in much more detail than the other guy and figures out that the pressure switch is doing what it's suppose to and that the heat exchangers blocked. He proceeds to pull it out, and starts cleaning, puts all back together and about 3hours later it's fixed. He was reading my mind I'm sure, called up his boss and resolved the cost issue by deducting cost of what was done to repair problem from the over all cost that I had already paid. Overall I like this company, all repair guys are professional, and for most part competent.

Brian, Chris and Marty all showed up right on time and were very professional. I was asked what preferences I had for how things that needed to be adjusted (placement) of the new equipment since the new equipment is larger. I?m sure it was extra work for them but they were so polite. I am extremely satisified with all the work done and how I was walked through the equipment and thermostat functionality. My house is as clean as it was before they arrived and thank you Marty for fixing my door, we never knew it could be fixed and just lived with it. I would recommend any of the team members and Jeff the salesman for his professionalism and follow up. We are thrilled to be sitting in a nice warm house.Thank you!!

WE called a different company to service the heater since Horizon would not come out for 3 days.
Description of Work: Bought the service contract for $99.00. The heater went out on a Sunday afternoon. When we called to have them come out they said it would cost $79.00 to have someone "look " at the system plus an unknown amount to repair the problem. I asked what the service contract covered and got some vague answer and a line of crap. The earliest they could come out was the following Wednesday which was 3 1/2 days later. We called J.M. Leone who was there in 1 hour and fixed the problem for $150. Not bad for a late call on Sunday evening. My sister and I both have contracts with Horizon that are now being cancelled.

I took advantage of a coupon I received in the mail for an $89.00 heater cleaning / tune-up with a second year tune-up for free. I know that Horizon is expanding into New Jersey and I had read several favorable reviews. The technician (John) showed up within the scheduled time window and was very professional. He appeared to do a competent job. He explained what he was doing and answered all of my questions. He showed me (with the camera) how a small area in the heat exchanger was showing signs of rust and would have to be monitored. He at no time attempted to sell me anything. Horizon is pricey compared to other companies in this area and I do not know whether I would be able to use them when it's time to replace my system, but I will definitely get an estimate. This deal, I thought was well worth it.
Description of Work: Heater cleaned and tuned-up. Interior of heat exchanger checked with camera. Tested for carbon monoxide.

I had 3 tolets replaced, job was done well, and they took all 3 old ones.There was a little problem. They told me what my husband could do to fix it.I took it they were in a hurry to get to the next job.I wasnt happy with that so I talked to them and they fixed the problem.

They arrived on time and were professional. They did an assessment and advised of options. The installation of new toilets was completed promptly and all packaging materials were removed. I've used this company several times in the past. The work and professionalism are always high quality, but in general, I think that the price seems to consistently high. On the spot quotes are great, but there is no option for validation of pricing.
Description of Work: Requested service for parts replacement on the inside of two toilets. On one, the parts had completely disintegrated. Who knew? The cost of replacement was about 50% of the cost of new toilets that were available on their truck. I opted for replacement.

The crossover tube (a narrow, small stainless steel tube that feeds gas to the burners for ignition) was broken. I'm fairly handy and know enough about HVAC to do basic troubleshooting (furnaces are not very complex) and had located the broken crossover tube and, when found it, stopped there and called Horizon. Only reason I chose them was because they have their orange trucks all over so I figured I'd take a shot. The 'tech' shows up and I explain the symptoms and then the broken part. He ignores it and starts looking everywhere else, obviously searching for some reason to proclaim the furnace dead and to simply push a new one to me. A minute or so of that and he turns around and says, "Have you thought about replacing the system, cus it's pretty old?" I replied, "Yes, I do want to replace it, but don't have the cash right now to do it so I just want to fix it for now." He then said it would cost "over $1,000 to repair it, because it needs a new pilot valve assembly." I pointed to the crossover tube (which is an inexpensive tube/part) and had to show him that it was simply friction fitted to a nipple on one end a held on the other end with a simple nut. Would take less than a minute to remove. He looked dumbfounded and then said he would email his office to see if they can get a replacement part. Of course, they respond back 5 minutes later saying that the part is obsolete and York doesn't make it anymore, so a complete system replacement should be done. Of course, they failed to mention/look and find that generic crossover tubes are abundantly available and can be used, not to mention other options for at least temporary fixes of the existing part, which I later had done by another technician with a different company. So the result was I paid $79 for nothing. He offered nothing other than to tell me get a new system. Complete waste of time and money. Later that day I called another tech who located a replacement part quickly from a local source. Never again would I use Horizon Services for anything else. Later that evening I went to a gathering and mentioned my heater issue and before I even discussed the situation further I had two friends say to me, "Whatever you do, don't call Horizon. They're rip-offs!" The one said he got a quote from them for a furnace replacement and it was outrageously high.
Description of Work: Broken furnace. I had isolated the issue and called them to come and verify and order/replace the part. They clearly did not have any interest in servicing this unit - they simply wanted me to buy a new one from them.

On October 3, 2012 during the annual maintenance checkup of my heating and air conditioning system I ordered and paid for a new MicroPower Guard electronic air filter. I was told then that it would take 2 weeks to have it installed as it was a custom size. Well, it actually took 3 weeks, and I had no news or contact from Horizon Services about the delay. On October 23 the new electronic air filter was installed. The technician was excellent and very careful. (My heating and air conditioning system was installed new in 2004 by Horizon Services, and it is still under warranty. Thus, despite similar air filters being sold on the market for $150 less, I must use Horizon or if someone else touches the system I loose the warranty coverage.)

We are going with BLUE BELL HEATING.
Description of Work: We needed to have our existing Oil Burner and heating system entirely replaced. Matt from Horizon was my first estimate in Aug of 2012. He spent over 2 1/2 hours with me for the appointment. At the end he gave me a quote for $11,200 and advised that part of the cost was the chimney liner that costs $1,000. I then asked for what discounts would be available if we paid in cash and could help fill out" his companies schedule aka get them in quick .. he went OUTSIDE to call his manager (like a car dealer) and then came back in my house and advised he could drop his price to $10,099 but that was the "lowest they could go because of the cost of the chimney liner". We originally didn't want to go over $7000 for the job so I again asked if there was anything that could be done about the cost saying that we could agree to $9000. After many conversations with his manager he agreed to $9000. I then did some research and determined that a chimney liner was NOT required for our job and my husband and I felt that they were inflating their cost. In addition, I was never given the actual make and model and unit of the furnace being installed or any brochures related to the unit, so we told them to cancel the work. Subsequently we had quotes completed by Sears .. who quoted $8560 and confirmed we DID NOT need a chimney liner. The Sears appt took another 2 1/2 hours of my time and they insisted that we look at thier financing even though we had cash to pay for the job. I then had BLUE BELL HEATING give me a quote (due to their rating here on Angie's). Tal's appt was only 30 mins, he was very knowledgeable gave me THREE written quotes with written specs and brochures and details, confirmed AGAIN that we did not need a chimney line. His original Quote was $6520 and when I advised we would be paying cash he gave me a final price of $6000.00.

The installation and equipment receive a grade of A. The installation techs were punctual, friendly, efficient, and willing to answer all my questions about the unit, it's installation and offered tips on maintenance. I was told by the estimator that the installation would probably involve cutting holes in the walls and ceiling to allow the techs to pull pipes and tubing, but they were able to gain access to all the areas they needed by crawling around in my attic spaces. When the crew of 4 left my house, they had cleaned up all debris in both house and driveway and left me with only some scuffs on the walls and smudges on the carpet which were easily cleaned. The installation was easy (for the homeowner) and trouble-free. Now, the sales review....... I gave a grade of B because, while the sales rep was pleasant and professional, I still feel uneasy about the tactic of insisting that they have a crew sitting on their hands waiting to go to work - TOMORROW. Can't come on Monday; need to fill the slot that's available for - TOMORROW. Might be busy on Friday, so they need to come (you guessed it) - TOMORROW. I know that this is a ploy to keep the customer from getting other estimates - an underhanded trick, and not worthy of a company which should be able to stand on its reputation. If they give good value for the money, what does Horizon have to worry about? I feel like a bad consumer for not getting several estimates, but I did research the equipment and asked on-line for info about pricing. Lennox has a good reputation, and the price was in the ballpark, so.... All in all, I would recommend Horizon for their staff and quality of work, but I would definitely recommend doing some research before you get the sales pitch.

As I have had other services done by this company, I was put off by the attitude of the technician. He seemed disinterested and annoyed. Unlike others he was not receptive to offer other solutions to the leaking problem.
Description of Work: Initially called for a ceiling leaking water for them to suggest a cause and if they were able to repair the same. At the same time my garbage disposal was not working. The technician said it was probably caused by water from the toilet or shower but could not specify which and could not help me anyway. He said that the garbage disposal was bad and needed replacement. Prices seemed high but I agreed. To date it has been functioning properly.

The technician, Ricardo, was very professional. He explained everything he was doing, and gave me suggestions and items that I may need to look into, such as a new water pad for my humidifier. The charge for the pad was expensive from Horizon, and the technician agreed that I could get it cheaper on my own. No pressure to buy anything else.

My initial description of the problem was that there was something leaking under the sink and the faucet was not shutting off completely. The technician arrived on time and inspected under the sink. He put plastic booties over his shoes before stepping on the carpeting. He also inspected the faucet. He then sat down with me and patiently explained the options available. I knew the faucet was old and corroded. I had the option to attempt repair or replace. I opted for replacement. He offered three levels of expense, each with its upfront price. I made my selection. He also suggested local shut off valves for the faucet, to make it possible to change out the cartridge in the Moen faucet without shutting off the water for the whole house. I requested he install an isolation valve for the water filter. He changed out the drain, which had corroded through and had been causing the leak. I was glad of the upfront pricing as the tech had a few problems with the job. The drain came apart in his hands and the faucet cracked when he removed it. He made a few trips out to the truck as the job escalated. A reciprocating saw was used finally. The truck had everything he needed though and the whole job took about one and a half hours. The kitchen was left clean and dry and no debris or dirt was left anywhere. I was very pleased with the job.

Description of Work: I had a bathtub with a slow drain and they came in and within two hours they had a whole new fixture under the bathtub. Another time one of the pipes in my heating system was leaking onto the carpet they came out and took care of it.

I suspect that these guys would have done a good job if we had hired them, but the sales process went from initially high credibility to very high pressure over a 3-hour visit - that ultimately ended badly. Their pricing was VERY high compared to competitors, and they weren't very specific about brands that they were estimating. Throughout the negotiations there were many calls to the sales manager - who kept making offers that we repeatedly said were not of value to us - but that didn't seem to matter. I'm not sure if this was real, or just a sales tactic, but we were told that they had something come up that gave them an available crew tomorrow, so if we were to sign that night and allow the work to be done the following day, there would be some price advantage to us - but it didn't turn out to be worthwhile. The same could be said of their offer NOT to take the financing. And, the salesman claimed complete transparency - but it certainly didn't seem to so. Also, again not sure if this was real or not, but a valuable manufactuer's discount was expiring at the end of the month (2 days later), so we were advised to sign immediately in order to get it. When the salesperson went away empty handed, his office called the next afternoon - which they said was at the salesman's request - to follow up. When I explained what had occured (some of which was not the salesman's fault), and asked for further clarification on the estimate, including versions with and without the a/c - they clearly decided that we weren't going to be closed quickly - and I never received the call back that I specifically requested. So, we went elsewhere. While researching other companies here, I discovered that their ratings here weren't very good. Guess I should have checked here first.
Description of Work: I contacted these guys on the strength of their radio commercials and the fact that I had see their trucks in our neighborhood. At my request they sent a service guy out to validate the condition of what I suspected to be our quickly deteriorating heating system. After a good conversation with the service guy, I requested a sales person.

Horizon did not get the job, since I never received an estimate. Horizon was a waste of my time.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate from Horizon to replace my HVAC system in my home. A rep. came out to my house, but never provided an estimate. Evan after a follow-up from me inquiring about the Horizon estimate, I never received an estimate.

Repair person was there about 40 minutes, job cost $412 (after $67 discount!). Job was probably worth $150-$200, tops, on a Sunday for 40 minutes of work. I would never use them again. I also should have know better; they do some much advertising that they have to get that cost back somewhere. Crazy! Stick with your local person. When I told my story to my own plumber the next time I needed him, he just shook his head at my experience and told me that the famous plumber from Philadelphia (from year ago, I forget his name, but he advertised a lot) said if he could get in every home in Philadelphia once in his lifetime he would be a millionaire.
Description of Work: They advertise constantly so I thought I would try them when I had a problem on a Sunday. I had a leaking pipe in the basement. They replaced the leaking galvanized pipe with plastic.

Unfortunately, I came home late on a Friday night to find that my house was no longer cool I called Horizon and they sent someone the next day only to find out that my AC unit had a slow leak. Their sales rep showed up at the scheduled time on Sunday and by Wednesday evening - everything was replaced. The crew was extremely friendly and professional. I would highly recommend Horizon.
Description of Work: Horizon replaced my AC/heating as well as my power vented hot water heater all in one day.

Their service was excellent. We suggested a heat pump for our air conditioner. They explained that would be a bad idea. He put the numbers down to show how the numbers would play out. He realized that in our case it was a good idea.
Description of Work: They installed my furnace, my air conditioner, and my water heater. They have also done repairs on a leaky shower.
