Technician came out right away on a Saturday night. Service charge was very reasonable. Found the internal fuse to the indoor unit had blown, indicating a low-voltage short somewhere in the system. As he could find nothing on the indoor unit, he went outside unit and found two wires inside, under the fan, that were near the wall of the unit had rubbed so much the casing was gone on that side and the wiring had come in contact with the metal wall. There were "scorch" indications that seemed fresh. He fixed the wiring, replaced the fuse, and the heat pump came on when we cut the power back on. All is well... He did note a couple of other things that he said needed attention, but none were emergencies to me and he did not try any high pressure tactics. He wrote them up on a suggested service sheet, with pricing (which I find high), and left it with me. He was courteous, nice, and professional. All in all... a success.

Back in November I called for a winter tune up and was told that they don't do more than one tune up a year any more. I had a check up done earlier in the year primarily for the AC. I used to have a check up in the spring and then again in the fall. I was also told to call back in March to schedule the tune up for the next year. Sounded good since that timing would be good for the AC for summer. So I call back today (March) and was told that first available appointment would be August - 5 months out!!! - and in the middle of summer. I think I'll know whether the AC is working properly by then. Remember, I was told in November to call back in March for the AC tune up, but wasn't told that there would be a 5 month wait. Had I known, I would have scheduled it in November so I'd be able have the check up done by April, at least. And, of course, nobody knows anything about that. So the moral of the story is - don't listen to Horizon's ads about how they have a ton of techs and how they are eminently available (sure, if you have an emergency when something's already gone wrong, but not when you're trying to be preemptive with a check up). I'd rather get something fixed before it goes bad, like during a check up, rather than be without AC in the summer or heat in the winter - but maybe that makes too much sense...and Horizon would make less money. Again, it seems to be more about what's convenient for Horizon and not the customer - what will make them more money, rather than save the customer money. I think I'll be shopping elsewhere next time.

I'll only give them higher than an F because of the fact that they replaced my sewer line without taking down our tree and were able to give us a quick appointment. I was not impressed with what was actually done. I will also say that this crew told us they were new to Horizon, so I'm not sure if they were up to the quality standards yet. The estimate was even a little higher than we had hoped, but we knew Horizon was supposed to be good and the warranty was good, so we went for it. The whole thing was done in a rush. I know it was supposed to rain later on that day, but they could have done a better job. They left mud everywhere in our basement. There was mud tracked across the floor, a lot of mud around the hole, mud on the stars, mud on the railing, and even mud on some clean laundry they moved from a wash line to pull the pipe through, which we would have gladly moved if they had asked. The concrete patch they left in the basement was also awful. (See picture) When I went down after they left, I had to smooth out parts with a putty knife because it was rough. Even now, it's still rough and not level and the clean-out is isn't even level. It's leaning and sunk further below the level of the floor I would expect. Outside, they left a mound of dirt, which is not anything like I would define as "rough grade" like was listed on the contract. It is now a complete mess and fills with water when it rains. The replacement was done December 31 and the ground is now frozen, so it will be a couple months until I can try to fix it. (See picture) And a minor thing, though still annoying, is that they didn't reattach the cover to my outdoor water shut off. I also don't even know if they finished the job. They were supposed to go from my basement to a hole at the edge of my yard. I know they did that part, but they were also supposed to try and push pipe towards the line in the street and I have no idea if that was done. From what I saw, they spent the whole time in the hole working on pulling the pipe from the basement, so I have no way of knowing if it was done and I'm not confident it was done. Overall, I expected better from Horizon, especially for the cost, and I'm very disappointed in the results.

Capaciter was replaced timely. They bill totaled $345.50. (I was OK with that as the system works fine now) But then Horizon then told me that my 13 year old system was nearing the end of its life and that it was most energy inefficient. (Indeed my heating bills are high in the winter.) They sent out an estimator to replace the system. I discussed with the estimator that one room was alway cold because of the architecture of my home. I explained that I wanted my new system to address that cold room's issues. He seemed to have no answer for it. The estimate seems very high. He quoted me $ 7858 for the "base unit", $9604 for a "level 1" unit, and $ 11,226 for a "level 2" unit. My condo unit is approx 1300 square feet. My current winter eletric bill can be as high as $275.00 in the middle of the winter and the AC bill runs about $80.00 in the mdidle of the summer. He could not tell me how much would save in the height of the winter was a more energy efficient system. (It seems it would take a very long time to rec $7558 to $11,226.) I did appreciate the fact that he reminded me that my system was getting old. I did some preliminary shopping for a new system. The quotes provided me were extremely high . Horizon will not be replacing my system when I dicide to replace it.

As a disclaimer upfront, I've used Horizon before for quick, unexpected repairs, and I can't complain about punctuality, and the techs largely seemed professional without a ton of upsell pressure. Now, my poor rating here has to do with their sales tactics. The person who came out to provide an estimate for replacement of my upstairs HVAC unit, in retrospect, could have been completely at home in the uncomfortably crappy time-share pitch that my wife and I got sucked into one time down in Mexico. The Horizon rep basically quotes us (shortly after arrival -- "to prepare me", prior to looking at my system) a ballpark price that was nearly DOUBLE what I ultimately ended up paying for a comparable system installed by a smaller, local company. Of course, as the sales pitch goes on, with the incentives and "great deals" piling on, that estimate falls, to a FEW thousand greater than the other company's. Then, the final squeeze comes, saying that if I signed right then and there, they could get down a bit further (to a price, again, that STILL remained higher than what I ultimately paid elsewhere). I find this kind of approach rather reprehensible. This sized company should be able to do better for their potential customers, from a volume pricing standpoint. I suppose they have a ton of overhead that factors in, not sure... The company I ultimately went with gave me a fair, honest price upfront, without ANY back and forth. Other than claiming a $500 Angies List promotion that company offered, I made no attempt to haggle down further, as their upfront quote (for comparable needs/system) was already the winner. Bottom Line: Don't go with Horizon until you've had some smaller reputable companies give you estimates first!

Horizon was professional from the sales call to the installation! We were very impressed with Anthony Santoro, the sales person, who spent time answering all of our questions, as well as examining our system and recommending no more than we needed. We didn't feel pressured at all. Cameron, the manager, called the next day to chat and offer a competitive price for a unit that was better than the other three companies' products, including a 10 year warranty for parts and labor, as well as an 18 month, no interest terms. Joe and Thomas, our installers, were able to come the next day to do the work in a very efficient and courteous manner. And a month later, we are very impressed with the new unit's cooling power. Love the "smart" thermostat as well. We have recommended Horizon to our neighbors, who have already begun to use their services.

I was told I needed over $1000 worth of services that I did not need. This company is only looking to sell you services you do not need. Do not fall for their $59 tune-up. It is only a ruse to get into your home to sell you things you do not need at ridiculous prices.

Scheduled and pre-paid for service on 2 AC units. Took 3+ months to get an appt. on the books due to high demand. At time of booking I explained to the scheduler that we were selling the house and the new owner would have possession at the time of appointment. The scheduler did not raise any concerns. Appt. window was this morning from 8-12am. Horizon called my spouse (not me who had made the appt.) and my spouse said we no longer lived there). I called back 2 minutes later to 302-256-8575 and explained we no longer lived there, had prepaid and the new owner was waiting for them. Never heard back but really did not expect a return call as I assumed the service paid for and scheduled would be completed. At the end of the day the new owner called me and said they never called or showed up. Called Horizon and complained. Matthew apologized and went on to say they would have to get permission from the new owner. So after waiting months for an appointment I am now told something different than when I scheduled the appointment months ago. Matthew could not provide an answer as to why the tech never called me back today. Lousy service. We have used Horizon 4 times: 2 times including today were not positive. The first time we booked an appointment for them to do an estimate for an ac/heater and they no showed. Earlier this year we used them for heater service and they showed and were great including finding a gas leak that had not likely been there quite a while. Batting 2 out of 4 for a good experience has resulted in this poor rating. Very disappointed in an unreliable experience.

First rep forgot he was to come at 3 after I received call from office explaining this issue. I stated I could do 4. Upon arriving, rep states that he was hoping to meet a longtime friend in Delaware but would be unable to as he could not be there until 7pm as he was meeting with me. Also, he talked about giving me an estimate on middle of line system but provide only cost of top tier models. The estimate was unprofessional as the information was poorly handwritten on a company checklist. All other estimates by other HVAC companies were formally type up and legible.

BUYERS BEWARE - EVEN IF YOU ARE A PAST CUSTOMER, YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL!!! A couple years ago, I had Horizon replace my heat pump (heat and AC) and paid several thousand dollars for them to do so. I had no problem with the install, although a little pricey, but I expected that from past experience. However, one of the benefits was that they would come out and perform twice a year inspections to be sure all was still good. Last winter, for the heating check up, it took over a month for them to schedule and come out. Now, for the AC check up, they tell me I'm not a priority (after I've paid them thousands???) and it would be over 3 MONTHS before they could schedule someone to come out!!! It's April and July is a little late to be checking out my unit to see if the AC is going to be good for the summer. Understand, this inspection takes them about 30 minutes - and they can't spare anyone for the next 3 months!!! This no way to treat an established customer. My ire also comes from their advertising that says - we'll be there whenever you need us...unless you've already paid us a lot of money and you don't have an emergency. No wonder they have so many F ratings.

They do exactly what they say they’re going to do. They are prompt, professional, courteous, intelligent and do an excellent job. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. I will definitely recommend them and absolutely use them, again if I could afford them.

When the technician finally showed up at 8:45 pm, the thermostat happened to be working at that moment......it had been working off and on during the weekend......mostly not working. So I was told since it was working there was nothing he could do! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I am suppose to wait until it malfunctions again, and be without heat for another three days until they can come and replace the thermostat?? This was a warranty item and should have been replaced immediately!!!
Description of Work: After paying $15,000 for a complete heating / air conditioning / hot water heater and thermostat less than a year ago, my Thermostat stopped working early Saturday morning. Called Horizon Services since they installed the unit and it was under warranty. I was told they could not come out until Monday between 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. I WAS WITHOUT HEAT FOR THREE DAYS!!!! The thermostat would go completely blank and shut off.

Very Bad, the technician was a thief and a liar.
Description of Work: Repair AC unit recharge, asked if I needed to replace told no just recharge. Said he had to remove outside disconnect. One year later needed a recharge and was told it was out of code because no outside dinnect. Would have to pay to reinstall, and a new unit would be better. Since I waited a year to replace I lost a recall buy back from Lenox .

We had use Ryan’s services previously to do our yearly maintenance for our furnace. We called to schedule a cleaning and maintenance to prepare for fall and winter. But the day the service man was to come horizon canceled on us after we had adjusted our work schedules to be home. Then after we try to reschedule the replacement appointment we were told that we would need to wait until February 2 (over three months later). We were furious that, after Horozon canceled on us the day of the appointment, they gave us the “go-to-the-back-of-the-line” treatment. When I complained about this, the scheduler, Alicia, said she would talk to her supervisor, Heather. Heather never actually spoke to me. I was simply put on hold and then Alicia came back to tell me that “we were able to help you out” by giving us an appointment in December (over one month later). After this experience, we are done with Horizon and our family will no longer be using them to service our home. I simply refuse to give my money to accompany the treats its customers this way.
Description of Work: We were supposed to have a furnaces cleaned/checked.

Had used Horizon once before when we had an emergency repair. You pay for that convenience: $350 to replace the valve. Go with a named plumber that charges an hourly rate (~$100/hr) and let these guys bilk the ill-informed.
Description of Work: Needed a toilet water supply valve replaced.
