Let me be clear - I liked the guys that came to my house. They were professional and courteous. If you are someone that refuses to accept risk, and is willing to pay more to replace stuff just because it's getting old - these could be your guys. My experience - they were so bent on guiding me toward a new furnace, that they overlooked a simple problem. Furnace would not light off. Service technician read the flashing error code and told me I needed a new pressure switch (detects that air is flowing before igniting the burner). But he strongly suggested that I should think about replacing the furnace because it is 17 years old and things are just going to keep breaking. Replaced the pressure switch - furnace still would not light off. New furnace appeared to be in my future. UNTIL... Decided to poke around myself after they left. Thought about why I wouldn't be getting air flow. Pulled out the air intake pipe - at the final screen right ahead of the burner - AND FOUND LEAVES. Just needed to be cleaned out. All my furnace needed was a little attention to detail. Goals of this service provider are not in line with mine. Their goal is to guide customers with older equipment to purchase new equipment. My goal is to keep my existing unit in tip-top shape, and maximize service life.

Toilet was leaking. Horizon tech Tried to repair it and found the bowl was cracked. The toilet was over 50 yrs old. It was not a standard mount. He quickly located a toilet that would fit he picked it up and installed it. Kind of expensive, but you need a toilet. The tech was clean and polite. He was very professional (knew what he was talking about). I was completely satified.

They arrived promptly. They did explain the cost for services before they started. We decided to go with them because (a) we had to shut off the water main to the house because there was no separate shutoff for that bathroom, (b) we were afraid that there might be water leaking in the walls from the problem and (c) we didn't know any other plumbers. They were very polite and professional. They cut a hole in the wall of the spare room to access the pipes for the shower, They fixed the problem, provided a new shower head and control, and were done in 2 hours. They were very neat and respectful. There was, obviously, no other way to access the problem. The shower head they provided is a quality product , but we miss a shower head that actually gives a more high pressure shower. But they came fully prepared, and we were grateful we didn't have to run out to buy one while they were here. They were kind enough to explain how we might patch the hole in the wall. They do not replace the wall board once they cut it out. Thankfully, my husband understood what needed to be done. Our house is an older house, and this was an original equipment problem. We are aware that these things happen, and they are often both expensive and inconvenient. But we were very shocked by the dollar amount. We had no way of comparing this price with another provider, since we couldn't turn the water back on for the rest of the house until we addressed the leak. And we freely chose to go forward, rather than risk the possibility of a more serious problem. Would I use them again? Yes. I just hope that the next problem isn't as expensive.

Price would've been the same if not cheaper had I gone directly to the service provider's website. When the tech came he tried to drain the main sewer line form outside, but I'm not sure if he chose the correct pipe. After several seconds, he concluded that we needed to get a plummer to cut the pipe. NO service was done the first go round and it was already paid for through Angie's List. When the plummer came some days later, he replaced the sink pipe and had to call the drain tech back (not the same guy). The new drain tech did the job correctly. Now my toilet doesn't back up into the kitchen sink.

They were ready to come the day I called. Due to time constraints I had them come at a later time. They came out on time as scheduled and re piped the ice maker to repair the issue. They feel like a small town plumber with a large company backing them. If you have a tech come out once and they are not scheduled they will be your tech for every call.
Description of Work: The company repaired a leaking ice maker. The saddle valve was leaking. Instead of just replacing the leaking part they reconfigured the piping so that 6-12 months down the road this issue doesn't come back.

I called Horizon due to a leak in our water heater. They were able to come the same day but quoted an initial price of $2500. The "non-member" rate was even higher. This seemed way too high and the technician eventually came down to $2000, but I had the same exact work done (water heater installed (same model), old one removed) by another plumber for $1500. I have had similar experiences with them in the past - they charge a lot and always try to sell you other things. I will not use them again in the future.

They did a great job of installing it, and I was very impressed with the salesperson, and they were pleasant people to work with and knowledable and it was such a pleasurable experience. We really like the ten year warranty we received as well!

Ok - this is an interesting dilemma. I had a major over-haul upgrade of my entire heating-A/C-water heater system. The sales rep., Pete, is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in that often disreputable line of work, and knowledgable. He left my doubts about the process, warranties and particularly the paperwork answered by calmly following up my concerns personally himself the installation day with me on everything. The over-all job installation itself was basically excellent. The three technicians, led, I believe by "Dmitry" were very good and extremely personable, likeable. All three were efficient, seemed to be well-experienced, know exactly what they were doing, patiently answered every question I suddenly thought of, really seemed to like doing the work, rather than be just hired help. Everything went almost without a hitch (there was an early scare; a hold-up regarding how to flush out the lines out, quickly resolved). And, as any heating / A.C. expert will tell you, the installation itself is most of the eventual success of the system (years down the road). I do believe I received an excellent system, and most importantly a terrific 10-year bumper-to-bumper warranty on everything (including all labor and generous "lemon" satisfaction). So far, so good. The "cons" follow (and there are drawbacks). The price is pretty premium; at least a quarter more than any others. Horizon will argue that the value pays for it; the good service people and I can vouch for using the emergency service several times. If their warranty is as good as it reads (even with the usual suspect fine print), it's worth the extra cost in eventual time and trouble (at least for me). But it is initially expensive, no getting around it. Also, the sales pitching on everybody's part is velvet-glove heavy, and there is some solid negotiating necessary (which I hate). Be prepared to be told your system could use improvements, or preventative replacements (which always brings suspicious questions to thought ...). Would I purchase this one again, via Horizon, if it were say, the day before agreeing? I think so. I did need it (and planned on doing this in about six-months because I was maybe over-worried about my aging 10-year old system that was basically a builder install with my then-new house). It was a judgment call; particularly on the water heater going with no problems through the winter. One other caveat: I actually had the money long set aside for this project. Time will tell. If the warranties hold up, and dealing with Horizon is as pleasant in the future as it was on this project (and for that matter, in the past), I'm satisfied. I'll keep you updated.

Phoned Friday mid-day to request a plumber. Horizon promised me first call Saturday morning. The plumber arrived promptly, just after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. He identified the clog and snaked it the pipes and then tightened the pipe joint that had been loosened by some over-aggressive use of the plunger. The plumber was very neat and clean about his work -- no mess to clean up when he left. He had impeccable manners and wore shoe covers, ensuring he did not track any muck about. The price was very reasonable for the service provided as Horizon had a special price/ coupon for cleaning one drain.
Description of Work: Opened clogged kitchen drain. Tightened pipe joints that had been loosened by over-energetic attempts to o.pen the drain by plunging it.

Great job. Arrived timely, wore shoe covers inside the house. Cleared out supplies from under the sink and returned everything neatly. Offered an additional service but did not have part on the truck. Went to local hardware store to attempt to purchase needed part and could not find it but the attempt shows a focus on great Customer Service. Thanks for the positive experience.

The sales rep arrived right on time, and was friendly, professional, and thorough. He took time to answer all of my questions and took detailed measurements. When he left, he said that he would be in touch the next week with a few options for me on different makes of furnaces, as well as options for rebates and financing. The next week I received a phone call from someone else in the company asking how the visit had gone - I said that I was happy, but that I hadn't received the estimates yet. He said he would check back with me in a couple of days. It is now two weeks later and I haven't heard back from either employee. I called the sales rep to check in and he said he would email me the quote - nothing. Too bad - I probably would have gone with this company, but it looks like they don't want my business.

AC was not working. Repairman advised us of our options which ranged from replacing the 25 yr old unit to adding refrigerant to see if that would fix the problem. If it did not the cost of refrigerant could go toward the new unit cost if we did decide to go with Horizon. The unit has been running great after adding the refrigerant which cost a couple hundred bucks vs. $5-$10k for a new unit! Very professional and did not try to push us to buy anything. Very helpful and polite.C

Our home warranty company approved our contacting a vendor of our choice to fix our a/c as long as they simply call in to answer 2-3 simple questions to allow us to get reimbursed. They told us they would not speak to our home warranty company. Even if I called and just put them on the phone to answer 2 or 3 questions. I was paying them. There were no forms. Simply 30 seconds to say they had a license and that the problem wasn't an ax of god. They REFUSED. A SIMPLE ACT OF MY HANDING RHEM A PHONE TO RESPOND TO A XOUPLE OF QUESTIONS. USELESS

Bad leak in tub that couldn't be fixed with new gasket. Leak was assessed and 2 options given: refurbish or replace-difference of $800.00. Replace job completed in an hour or 2. No issues. Still leak free. Afterwards I searched the internet for an average price for the work we had and it was less than 50%. I found similar parts for less that $200.00 at Lowes. I asked Horizon for an itemized bill and was told that they only do flat rate pricing, which was to my advantage, and that I owned a valuable warranty.

We used Horizon for the first time today and were extremely impressed with the company and especially our technician, Joe. He was beyond helpful and went above and beyond to help new home owners with their HVAC concerns. He was right on time, super knowledgable and courteous. This is the first thing that has gone right in this new house and knowing we have Horizon and Joe to call makes us worry a little less about the future of this house.

On December 23, 2012 that very same clog happened again. I called and dealt with some extremely rude, couldn't care less attitude. When I told him that we used them before and had this guarantee he didn't care. Told me to call back after Christmas and there was nothing they could do (all with a kind of chuckle in his voice). They were busy with other clients. I called him an a****** hung up & called Roto-Rooter. They came right out and unclogged the drain. They were respectful, courteous and on time! Now every time I hear Horizon's ad on the radio I cringe. I feel they are phony and just want to get their foot in the door with a low priced offer, and then hit you with a large overpriced estimate and they do NOT back up their work. Horizon is nothing but a scam!
Description of Work: On April 25, 2012 we had a clog in our sewage pipe. We called Horizon. They had a $99.00 deal. They came out unclogged the pipe & told us that the whole pipe would need to be replaced for close to $10,000 (way, WAY overpriced). Otherwise this will happen again. Oh and that $99 deal was suppose to be guaranteed for ONE year. If that same pipe were to get clogged they would come out and unclog it FREE!

The Horizon guy came out in a truck with several water heaters and information on all of them. He was very professional. At least at first. I told him I wanted a 50 gallon energy star water heater. He said that he had one on the truck, showed me the specs, and advised that he could install it immediately. Great. He did the installation and everything seemed to be good. About 20 mins after he left, I inspected the unit - IT WAS NOT AN ENERGY START UNIT!!! It was the bottom of the line unit that I could have gotten for about $500 less. I was fuming. Talk about bait and switch. I called Horizon and, after being transferred around and complaining to several people, and threatening to sue, they ended up refunding the difference. But I still don't have the water heater that I wanted. I will NEVER ever use Horizon again. This happened a couple of years ago - and I just posted the review now because I just joined Angie's List. I wanted to make sure that anyone out there looking to potentially use Horizon knows about my horrible experience.

From the moment i called, they gave me an estimate. The job was more than just a simple repair. My house wasnt up to code with plumbing at that time. They brought my plumbing up to code. The got a full crew with a digger and scheduled me in 48 hours. Big job! When the job was finished, and sent a supervisor who walked me thru all of what they did. We had one complaint with what was done and they took care of it immediately, without discussion.

After making appointment, technician arrived on time, and assured me he had the parts to do the job. Before he started, though, he first tried to sell me HVAC services, which I politely declined. Then he wrote up an estimate. He slid the paper across to me with an estimate of $619. I told him I felt the cost was high, given the part itself cost well under $100, and installing it pretty much involved two connections. He then made a quick call to his "supervisor" and, all of a sudden, the estimate was $304 - less than half. I told him to go ahead and the job was completed fairly quickly with no problem. I'm not sure of Horizon's business model, but I think it needs to be tweaked. Yes, they are responsive. Yes, their technicians are polite, presentable, and suitably skilled. But why force a negotiation that neither party really wants to conduct? If their pricing was more honest, forthright, and fair from the outset, I think I would be more likely to want to do business with them in the future.

They have been good. I would recommend them. They came on time and did the work according to the schedule they set out to do. Horizon's service was just fine. I think they were great. As far as I know their price was competitive. They came the day I called.
Description of Work: We used Horizon to put in a garbage disposal. Previous to that they checked our air conditioning system as part of a maintenance agreement we set up with them. They corrected some glaring problems that had been created by another company when they installed the system in the first place and did an inappropriate job.

Sales explanation by Steve was enthusiastic and educational. We made an offer, and he got approval for that offer. Chris and David came out the next morning on time; and the installation was done in one day, even though the drop off of the new unit was slightly delayed. So far, the Lennox XP14 runs quietly, and the Honeywell programmable thermostat and Merv16 components are good features. The finished installation looks clean, our property was left in good shape. Overall, a job well done, and we are pleased with the result.
