I was told I needed a brand new HVAC system. Needless to say, I now have a company that does not try to sell me something every time they come to do the maintenance and it is now done properly.

They came to do an annual furnace check-up on our rental property. The technician said the boiler was putting out high levels of carbon monoxide and gave us an estimate of $10,OOO to $1`5,000 to replace it. He turned the boiler off, leaving our tenants with no heat. We got two estimates the next day from other heating companies, and both said there was nothing wrong with the boiler and suggested we get the chimney cleaned, which we did, for $150. Since the boiler is located in a well-ventilated shed which is attached to the house there was never any danger to the tenants. We installed carbon monoxide detectors in the house and the shed and there is no evidence of carbon monoxide.

They should not have charged me for this trip as it should have been taken care of on the first visit when they installed the sink. I would not use them for plumbing. There should not have had a second visit. They were told when they came out the first time that there was a leak and they didn't bother to look for it. We had to call them out for a whole new visit.

I went out and bought a new faucet and decided I was going to call a plumber. He installed the faucet, it was incredibly expensive. I think I paid maybe $150 for the faucet. It was like $350 for installation, and they didn’t fix the leak and had to come back. It was another $180 to do the leak. That was one expensive faucet! For those prices, I wouldn’t use them for plumbing again. They usually show up on time.

It's a pretty large company here. I've used them for a couple of years. I have a service contract with them for my heating and air conditioning inspection. They have a long time guarantee. They tell you when they show up at a certain time. When they don't show up at a certain time, you get your appointment call back. I've never had to deal with that because they've always been on time. Anything they do, their pricing is right upfront. You know what the pricing is going to be. There's never any extra add-ons or anything like that. They wear standard uniforms and they put booties on their shoes when they come in.
Description of Work: I use Horizon Services. They did the heating maintenance. They come and do a heater and air conditioning tune-up. They check the pressure.

They were on time and kept the house clean. Every time they walked in, they put clean booties on. They were knowledgeable on what they were doing. Everything good you could say about a contractor, you can say about them. They have a transferable warranty on the unit, which was important to us. They were meticulously clean and totally respectful of our property and home. They also tell you if they are late, your service is free. They completed the service in one day.

I needed a new outdoor unit and indoor furnace. I called Horizon up and they sent one of their sales guys the next day. He was not pushy, he didn't act like a salesman. He was there to help me and my interest. I ended up getting a great unit and literally 12 hours later, the next morning the installation team came to my house and put in a whole new unit w/in 8 hours. I got a new furnace, outdoor unit and a water heater. They're good - have a great guarantee on their work. I like to spend my money on the small, family companies. Horizon is a good company to use!

They checked the thermostat on the furnace. I've been using them for a long time. They also came and fixed a blocked up sink in my patio room. I have a plan with them for heating system checkup once a year and also my air conditioner, once a year. I use them mostly for heater work and air conditioning and some plumbing that I get stuck with. So far I can't complain about my heating system. What I like about it was, the way they handle themselves, they put muffs over their shoes, they don't walk through the house with dirty shoes. They go right to the basement and work on the heater. They're not in your way. You can count on them because it worked for the last year. It didn't take very long, I think about half an hour to complete the service. They're coupon oriented, this company. You can see their advertisements in the paper, they run a lot of coupons. They give you a window and they're usually there within that window. I like when they call ahead of time and say, "I'm in Philadelphia and I'm going to be in your area in about half an hour or so." It's good to be in touch with the customer like that. It's the only one I could lean to for a quick service and punctuality, to get me out of a tough spot.

Came quickly and fixed the leak. They sold us a heating contract and didn't show up for two appointments. On the third try someone came who seemed to be knowledgeable.

Tech claimed the heater was giving off "record levels of CO". When I asked him to show me, he stated his machine could not re-calibrate so he could not repeat the test (we have a CO monitor near the unit that had showed no CO). Advised the entire unit would need to be replaced for $12K!! We have a gas boiler, which means they would have approx. $10K installation cost. Another company fixed and cleaned the unit for less than $1k. Horizon is a high pressure scam. Do not use.

Horizon was the only company to answer the phone when I called on Labor Day. The sent a repairman the next day and gave me an estimate of $500 to replace the feed line and update the Electric Switch box on the outside of the house. Once that was complete the service man checked the pressures on the unit and told me the pressures were out of line and that I would have to replace the Evaporator valve at a price of $2100, discounted from $2500 since he just did the other work. I was also offered to get a quote on replacing the entire system since heck "if you are going to spend that much, why not upgrade the entire system". A pure sales job....I was told that their system would be well over $10,000, gasp, but they would give me a final quote when they measured the house. I thanked him and then called Perry Hall Heating & A/C to get a second opinion, and since they had replaced the same valve 6 years prior and had originally put in the system (Trane). Perry Hall confirmed the diagnosis, even under the pretense that I was just having them do the normal maintenance and system check, I did not tell them about the previous visit from Horizon. Problem confirmed, Perry Hall quoted me $750 for the repair, and only charged me $400 at time of repair, an 80% lower price than Horizon. I am delighted with Perry Hall H&A/C, very professional and open. I was disappointed by the sales job Horizon used on me, especially on my first, and last time using them. Buyer beware with Horizon, get a second quote!!!

Technician Jeffrey Wright came out after I had a string of terrible experiences with other local HVAC contractors and having not had heat for going on two days. I forewarned him that one other company actually gave up on me because the guy couldn't figure it out, but he assured me he would figure it out. I am really glad I hung around while Jeff was diagnosing the problem as he took the time to really explain how my furnace works, what all the various parts and pieces are, and what steps he was taking to diagnose the issue. After about two hours of troubleshooting, he figured out that the gas valve in my heater failed. He went through all the steps again as to what drew him to that conclusion and then presented the pricing options, including some coupons he had and the option of signing up for a service agreement (which I did). He gave me the option of calling other companies for quotes or time if I needed to think about it, but honestly I liked Jeff and trusted that he would do the work well and honestly didn't want to wait for heat anymore. After agreeing to the work, Jeff went through and replaced the part and successfully fired up the heater. I must say, I was really impressed by the professionalism of Jeff. When he started to replace the gas valve, I had returned upstairs to let him work. He came up very somber and said he ran into a problem. Here, he found out he needed to shut the gas off at the street because whoever installed our heater didn't put in the proper connection types to allow a shutoff and disconnect at the heater. He was worried because he knew my wife was cooking dinner on our gas stove. I was blown away. I told him by all means don't worry about our dinner! We just wanted some heat - but the fact that he thought his work through and how it impacted our home that way really resonated with me and I trusted him doing our work. For some reason I had reservations about Horizon because they were a bigger company and weren't necessarily local - but I must say, I gave the local guys their chance and they blew it. Horizon stepped up and knocked it out of the park. I graded B for responsiveness only because they couldn't provide same day service for the failed heater repair, but were out the next day.

Was told ahead of time number of hours probably needed to complete job. Turned out that I had paid for more than double actual working hours; especially because of learner/assistant standing around and watching and occasionally fetching something from the truck. Ceiling panels were not replaced properly. Left over scraps not removed. We requested the copper pipes that were replaced not to be taken away and they were. I wrote a letter of complaint and asked for a partial refund. Negative response because I had postponed writing the letter for a couple of months until I had recovered from bladder cancer treatments. I realize now that you charge far more than "regular" competent plumbers because you spend a lot on t.v. and other advertising.
Description of Work: leaking pipes in cellar replaced.

Service tech Tavon came before the scheduled time. Dave came seperately a short time later. After the heat exchanger was removed,and it took a long time to remove a 26 a year old part, I saw the cracks-plural. I was taught that a combustion test is not the only test for checking a heat exchanger. By the time the combustion test reveals unacceptable, dangerous carbon monoxide levels, you're in trouble. It took almost 3 hours, on a Friday, to learn I indeed had a crack-make that cracks. Horizon Services is a top notch company. I was treated with respect. I have never heard of a company that made a promise like Horizon did. They had nothing to gain because they were not contracted with my home warranty. Dave Bogart surely knew it was cracked because of the trust, knowledge and training of my original tech, Kevin. Tavon was just as wonderful and took time to explain things in detail. Wait until I need my AC serviced. Guess who I'll call? Horizon Services- Keep doing what you do!
Description of Work: This is in response to a review I submitted on 11/6/16 about Horizon Services. That poor review needs to be discarded. During my seasonal check-up, Horizon told me I had a cracked heat exchanger. I had to call a different, contracted company through my home warranty company. I was told my heat exchanger was not cracked, based solely on a combustion test. Believing him, I wrote the Horizon review. Listen to this superior customer service Horizon has: Manager Dave Bogart contacted me the day after my review. He offered to come to my house and show me the heat exchanger. If it wasn't cracked, I would get a free furnace installed. If it was cracked, I would have the piece of mind of knowing I needed a new heat exchanger, and the company contracted through my home warranty was wrong.

Took three days. Had to jackhammer garage floor to get at sewer lines. Replace, then concrete. Men were professional, considerate, and on time.

They were pleasant, polite, friendly, efficient, clean & knowledgeable. They got the job done correctly in a few hours, including "cleaning up" work that was done wrongly by another plumber. And they were extremely nice to my elderly mother. Will definitely call them again!!
Description of Work: New sink & vanity in bathroom; new faucets in kitchen; sink & toilet in second bathroom needed fixing.

We started our purchase process by receiving estimates over a few week period. We quickly realized that buying a new oil boiler was not as straight forward as buying a car because of endless options and wild price variance. Some vendors were unreliable during the sales process, while others were Ok but not quite compelling enough to convince us to spend a large sum of money with them. All of that changed with Horizon. Right off the bat, the scheduling of an estimate was a little easier than some competitors and the support staff of Horizon Services was very nice on the phone. Our sales representative Ken politely arrived exactly on time, even though it was a noontime appointment on a busy Saturday very close to Halloween. My work exposes me to frequent financial negotiations, so an estimate appointment is a very natural type of meeting for me. Within seconds, I recognized that Ken is a very genuine, high quality, personable person; and also extremely professional and knowledgable. He assessed our existing system and measured our house while we asked an endless stream questions about how to maximize our return on our investment in a new HVAC system. The experience with Ken verses the other salesmen could not have been more different. There were no wishy washy answers from Ken and no upsell tactics. Ken is very down to earth and anything but the type of salesperson who is going to push you into doing something you might regret. I have the very strong sense that Horizon Services has not built their business on regret. Ken made sure to give us the best information possible so that we could make the most sound decisions. With his rare balance of knowledge, good nature, and humor; Ken was able to give us great information while keeping things from becoming tense even though my wife and I were asking tons of questions about spending what we consider a large amount of money. We did decide to go with Horizon Services even though they were not the least expensive. Ken explained several details which were indicative of a well engineered, well installed, high quality system that I feel warrants a slightly higher price tag. I did not want any regrets. As they say, the proof is in the pudding and everything Ken had promised, and more, was delivered during the install. Installation day went incredibly smoothly starting with a very professional team arriving right on time. My house is older and I was unsure whether the oil units would be able to fit through the halls and doors. The team was super careful and somehow did not even touch a wall or a corner while lugging 500 pound monstrous oil burners through the house. John, Todd, and Christian were all very well spoken and extremely talented. The plumbing seams, pipe routing, valve placement, and wiring are beautiful works of art. The team was very mannerly while they showed me how to use the new system and they left the house looking cleaner than when they started. This has been a phenomenal experience all around. Horizon Services really is a special company that seems to hire only the best people. It is hard to imagine that we will choose anyone else to install our Central Air in a few months.

Called to diagnose and fix heating problem. The technician came on time, and quoted a $1200 'immediate' repairs and additional $4800 'potential' repairs, but recommended new system; he charged $120 for the service call. The sales rep came on time, but was not willing to quote unless I am ready to make commitment on the same day. I never got the quote. I called another service company, and he diagnosed and fixed for $400 ($20 pressure switch + $300 main logic board)!
Description of Work: Called to diagnose and fix heating problem. The burner was shutting off due to faulty pressure switch.
