A week later, we still did not have any improvement in the heat, and they had not responded to the multiple messages about the problem. (To be fair they were getting messages from my mother and myself on the same place and this may have thrown them off.) We also never received the promised quote. When they got back to us later that week, someone else came out and looked at the furnace, they also stated it was working fine (still needed to be set at 80 to get 60 degrees). They stated we would need to contact the gas company since the problem was with the gas flow/pressure. This time they charged an additional fee. The gas company came and checked the pressure. It was normal, but on the low end of normal so they changed the meter as a courtesy. They then tested the line and it was fine (as evidenced by the fact that the hot water heater continued to work without issue throughout this time), but they stated the furnace was not firing properly and they would have to tag it and shut it down until it could be seen by a "qualified professional." We decided then to find another company to do the repairing/replacing.
Description of Work: Our furnace was working well below capacity, needing to be set at 80 to keep the house at 60 degrees. The first tech came out 11/25/13 and stated that the furnace was old, but functional. It would benefit from a new filter, and cleaning. He stated the main problem was the setting for the humidifier was wrong. He set it, and stated it would be best for us to do the filter ourselves due to cost. He was doing some other work for my mother on the other side of the duplex, so he was already getting paid to be there, and charged additional to give us this advice and change the setting. He stated this would fix the problem and we should have heat in a short while. We asked for a quote for the cleaning, and he took my email address so we could get it asap.
