Description of Work: After researching many local pool companies, we decided go with Anthony & Sylvan because they were a large company with great reviews from satisfied customers. Our experience with Anthony Sylvan was stellar. Our first experience with Anthony Sylvan was with Rob McCubbin, our pool designer, who helped us design our pool to fit our needs. He was extremely helpful, letting us know what options were available to us, without any sales pressure whatsoever. We really enjoyed designing our pool right at our kitchen table with Rob's assistance. From that point on, our interactions with contractors and subcontractors were nothing short of polite, good-humored, and professional. Everyone was more than happy to explain what they were doing and why they were doing it. We were consistently kept abreast of the pool's progress and what was coming next in the process. The main person responsible for making our pool a reality was our extremely dedicated project manager, Harald Bottke. We met with Harald before even breaking ground for the pool. From our very first meeting, Harald felt like a good friend. He was always straightforward with us, clearly explaining every step of the pool building process. Harald was never more than a phone call, text, or email away, and he promptly responded back to our questions or concerns every single time we contacted him. In turn, he kept in close contact with us, checking in periodically to see if we were satisfied as the process moved forward to completion. It happened that our pool was completed and filled with water on July 3rd; we just needed Anthony & Sylvan to start up our equipment. Harald actually called us on the 4th of July Holiday to see if we would like him to stop by and start up our pool. We, of course, said yes! So, Harald started up our pool on a holiday weekend! That is the kind of "above and beyond" customer service that Harald provided to us throughout our pool building project. We would highly recommend Anthony & Sylvan Pools and most especially, both our pool designer, Rob McCubbin and our project manager, Harald Bottke.

+ -1 moreAfter new pool installation, our pool pump line was leaking. We have been unable to get it fixed after repeated telephone calls and emails since June. I wish there was something nice to say here, but I paid a substantial amount of money for a new pool and I cannot get the pump line fixed. So, I wait and continue to refill my pool with the hose. Coincidently, Anthony Sylvan would not perform work until THEY got paid. However, now that they have our full payment the company will not fix the pump problems. Next stop, Law Offices.

+ -1 moreThe sales process was straightforward and after the first meeting, we had a close to scale view of how the pool would be located in our yard. We opted to commit in the Fall to starting in the Spring. Work in the Spring started as planned, and proceeded relatively quickly and without incident. The crews we had on our job were conscientious and very quick to get started and finished on each phase. We realized after the hole was dug that we needed some additional hard scraping work (a retaining wall) due to the slope of our property. This was the only time we struggled a bit to get the next crew on site -- the weather and a lot of other demand delayed the landscaper from getting started. However, once they were on-site and we discussed the way we wanted things to look, they were quick to order materials and ensure we understood costs, risks, and options. Once the hardscraping work was nearly finished, we worked with the A&S fencing contractor to finalize the way the fencing would be installed. This required some adjustments with the landscaper for placement of tubes for the concrete to hold the fencing in place, but everyone worked together to make it work. Getting everything fenced in and grading accomplished meant we could schedule plaster and water. There was a slight mix-up regarding the water delivery (we contracted A&S to provide the water) and the time for them to deliver, so the plaster was finished before the truck arrived. We needed to start filling from our well, which did leave us with some minimal staining. However, when the pool is fill of water, it's barely noticeable, and over time should gradually disappear. In summary, the process went remarkably well, the crews we had did some excellent work, and they accommodated several changes over the course of the work as we were better able to visualize the final results.

+ -1 moreIn my opinion lousy. Very little in the way of design assistance, I did 90% of the research. They were absolutely terrible with scheduling. It was worse than pushing a string to get them to even come close to meeting multiple deadlines and keeping to the ever changing schedule. There is no company supervision of their workers, they are all subcontractors. Tile work was unacceptable requiring multiple efforts to fix the problems.They tried to convince me to replace the pool lights at $650 each, when in fact only the light bulbs needed to be changed. Our driveway was damaged and their efforts to repair made it worse. I did get a credit. Fortunately, from experience, I refused to agree to pay their last stage payment in advance writing this deviation from their normal procedures in the original contract. Without this protection I sincerely doubt they would have paid any attention to my complaints. They continually tried to berate me into paying in advance, which I refused and even tried to renege on the substantial credit for damage to the driveway. Fortunately, I had the credit in writing. I expended too much valuable time and effort for what should have been an easy experience.
Description of Work: Re-plaster pool, replace tiles and steps on the beam or bridge separating the hot tub from the pool.

+ -1 moreI called the office to ask about their remodeling options and getting a bid. They told me that despite their website, they do not do pool remodeling, only new construction. (Remodeling is currently only available in Houston, not Austin.) I've dropped their rating for a misleading website, but raised it again partway because they were up front about it when I called them and did not try to waste my time or theirs.
Description of Work: Pool remodeling - replastering and possible upgrades, including installation of a hot tub.

+ -1 moreThey were tens of thousands less expensive than three other quotes. There were no hidden charges or extras that often are not included in the quotation. The installation is done by multiple sub contractors and Anthony Sylvan managed the project. I was warned that the subs are not always timely and delays should be expected but I went with them anyway because of the extreme price difference. Surprisingly, the subs were professional, timely and did a really nice.job. The manager, John, was helpful and responsive. I had no issues that went unresolved. I would use them again.

+ -1 moreOwen from Anthony and Sylvan went out of his way to make things right. He truly wanted to make things okay which I do admire. In this day and age, customer service is often overlooked. Due to Owen, I would give Anthony and Sylvan another chance. Anthony and Sylvan did offer to reimburse me 1/2 cost paid to another company I used to make the repair. Countered with request to donate money to area Basset Hound Rescue if they choose.
Description of Work: This is follow up to my previous review. Contract to Re caulk above tile line on cantilever pool deck.

Jobs like these are not easy to do - a lot can go wrong - and making sure you pick the right company is the biggest key to success. The team and Anthony and Sylvan really know what they're doing - the price was reasonable and everyone was very professional. Glad we chose A&S to do our pool.

+ 0 moreWe are new and clueless when it comes to most pool issues, so when our filter stopped working, we were panicked. I initially filed a claim through my home warranty company, who took a full week to tell me that they could not find a provider in my area, but I was welcome to give it a try. After a week with no filter, my pool was more of a swamp (and just in time for the long weekend I had planned). Anthony & Sylvan was the highest rated provider on Angie's List. When I first saw their website, I was hesitant to call because they apparently install VERY nice pools, and I was not sure that they would service mine (in-ground with a liner). In fact, I first sent an email to another provider that had previously serviced our pool. When that provider did not respond by the next day, I emailed Anthony & Sylvan through Angie's List. Someone sent me an email within the hour saying that yes, they could help me, and that they would call me shortly. The woman who scheduled the appointment was extremely knowledgeable, and very polite, even though it was probably clear to her that I know nothing about pool filters besides "it's not working." She even took my husband's information and called him separately, so that he could provide more detail about the problem. We were told that a technician would arrive the next morning. Our technician, Don, arrived around 8:30 AM. He was very professional and courteous, and easy to talk to-- I had not realized that the water in the pool had evaporated a bit, so he had to wait for it to fill in order to fix the problem. While I felt bad about it, Don was completely polite and waited so that he could test the filter. It turns out that we only needed a new gasket, so it wasn't a major repair, but based on this interaction, Anthony & Sylvan will be the first pool service company that I call in the future, and I absolutely recommend them.

+ -1 moreOnce Owen the Customer Care rep got involved, the progress of the project stayed fully on track. The final product is a absolute fantastic pool area, better than expected. The work is high quality with high quality components. The landscaper did the landscaping and the EP Henry retaining wall was the best as was the decking crew who did the complete job in only 4 hours! Expect longer time than you would think to calibrate your expectations as every step is a building block on the next and often cannot be done in parallel unfortunately. All the construction cleanup was done in a first class way by the landscaper who gave great attention to detail and that was greatly appreciated. In the final assessment, I would recommend Anthony & Sylvan as they did come through in the end with flying colors.
Description of Work: Installation of new concrete pool with waterfall, heater, concrete decking, retaining wall and hardscape stairs, river rock landscaping for significant slope in backyard.

+ -1 moreIt could not have gone any better. The tile masons, subcontractors from Frank's Tile and Coping, were friendly, courteous and talented. They drained the pool down, removed the damaged tiles and coping, repaired the underlying plaster, installed new tile and coping. They cleaned everything up, and the whole job took a few hours. Except for the fact that the grout is whiter, you can't tell that it was repaired. I am very pleased with their work.

I was in a bind and Anthony & Sylvan were able to fit me in their schedule and I was able to open my pool before the party I had planned. During the opening I had issues with my electrical breaker. The technicians were very patient with me as well as very accommodating.
