I wanted to get a dimmer light switch for my dinning room to make it a little more elegant. I decided to use this company since my neighbors recommended them. I was told it would be $95 which was definitely in my budget. The service man came out the same day and took a very short time to install it. He was very friendly and made sure there was no mess after doing the work. He even told me that I will be able to get a discount for any additional services.

It went very well. He showed up right on time and involved me in the decision process. He went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect and was incredibly detail oriented. I can be a demanding person but I didn't have to be with this contractor. I would use them again without hesitation. The only thing I would advise to anybody installing recessed lighting, there will be some sanding/painting you have to do after the install depending on the placement of lights, joists, and removing old lights fixtures. I didn't even consider that, so just a friendly heads up.

Bill Mullen was extremely professional and very knowledgable. I am always questioning every contractor I hire, every step of the way, and some of them do not like it. I do it to educate myself, the homeowner. Installing a generator is not an easy task and one that has an automatic transfer switch is even more tricky because it requires hours of rewiring your entire electrical box. Bill was very good at communicating to me exactly what he was going to do and why and I now feel secure in my basic knowledge of what went into setting it all up and how to run the system. A generator is a huge investment and more than anything I wanted it installed safely and in a location that was out of sight. That required some cable maneuvering in tight spaces in order to feed it outside to the spot that I chose. Bill was able to hide the cable in such a way that it's totally out of sight except for where it leaves my home and connects to the generator. I am impressed and will hire again.

Bill came onsite first on 7/18 to assess the issue. I found him to be very polite, punctual, and professional. He was able to fix the dead outlets and the cost was $150. He informed that I needed to off-load some of the outlets going back to the breaker box. He explained what needed to be done and informed it would take 1/2 day and the cost would be $600. I agreed to this. The next visit was 8/1. It took about 90 mins to complete the job along with going to the HomeDepot to purchase items. I was a little surprised because 1/2 day for $600 as opposed to 90 mins...hmmm. Well what's important is peace of mind when it comes to having electrical problems handled. Bill informed that he would send an invoice regarding the work performed. I have made about 2 to 3 calls and I'm still waiting for that invoice. As a professional individual, one has to keep records of what is done so I'm not sure why someone can't just pull up the work in their system and forward it to me via email or even send it vial snail mail...who cares. I thought everything was ok but found out otherwise. I don't hang out in my dining room much unless I'm working from home. I worked from home last night because of the Papal visit to Philly and noticed that whenever the Air System (dehumidifier) comes on (one of the outlets that was put on a separate breaker(off-loaded)), the lights flickered...hmmm. Oh well back to the drawing board in search of an electrician. Yes, the small details matter.

Hi, I've waited a long time to respond to this review, but It's something I've been thinking about for some time. I can't speak much to the time frame {because it was so long ago} of the job on 8/1, and I apologize if you didn't think I was being honest about how long the job would take. I can say with 100% certainty that I did take multiple fire harassed out of your home and made your house a safer place to live. I reviewed the project with you when i was finished and you seemed happy with the work i proformmed. I also apologize if we didn't follow up with the proper paper work to show the completion of the job. Good luck with your future projects. Bill

Let's start with Bill, Alex and the team's working environment - my 1930 home that has original electrical wiring. Thoughtout every home improvement project, expect the unexpected - nothing is easy! They turned a difficult job into one that at times needed to think outside of the box. They made every attempt to help keep cost down for us since we are putting up our home for sale! Very nice group of guys and extremely professional. Highly recommend and would use them again for all future services.

Two electricians came to home to install recessed lighting in our kitchen. They were very polite and professional. The work was also completed in a timely fashion. The work appears to have been done correctly; no complaints on workmanship of install. All the lights function and really light up the kitchen extremely well. Much better than the lighting we had before. The only concern I had regarding was that the coupon I used called for a dimmer switch to be installed along with the recessed lights but a dimmer wasn't installed. I should have realized it but didnt catch it until a few days later when the wife returned from her trip and asked, "Hey, awesome new lights but what about the dimmer switch?", and I responded, "Oh yeah....crap, I forgot about that." Guess I should have called them to inquire about the dimmer but I didn't push it. Might follow up with them after writing this review. The electricians did do some clean up after the job and attempted to putty up the small holes they needed to make in the ceiling. I felt I needed to do additional cleaning which only took a few minutes. I had to re-putty the holes because their original attempt did not settle/dry correctly. However, I would recommend these guys again and will use them again if needed.

Bill Mullen and his team were thorough, clear about scope of job, reliable, on time, responsive to questions and requests and priced around the same or a bit less than other estimates. They worked efficiently together and did not cut corners. Bill ultimately took money off the total bill because some of the wiring was better than he thought once he got in there, so the job was shortened by a day or two. I chose Bill Mullen over the other two contractors because he was a clear communicator, responded to calls or questions quickly, planned to be on site most of the job, had a 3-person team plus himself and hence the total job time and disruption was less than the others for a huge job. The guys were great people, they worked 10 -plus hours a day and gave me the option of continuing to work on Saturday (I took it) to get the job done sooner. Bill and the guys were good about making arrangements with me for keeping my pets secured as they moved through the house. Coordinated with me for when internet would briefly go down (I work from home) so I could make other plans. I never went without a/c somewhere in house (work done in July), never had to fumble in dark bathrooms, bedroom or kitchen at end of each day- they made sure I always had functioning electricity by the time they left each night throughout the re-wire. Wall openings were minimal considering the amount of rewiring (all switches, outlets, ceiling fixtures) and his patching work excellent- as good as any professional painter's. When a previously-existing, hard-wired lightswitch timer stopped working a day or so after the job, Bill quickly returned to fix it, though it was probably an issue with the appliance itself and not the wiring. I'd been dreading having this necessary work done for the cost and disruption, but the experience overall turned out really well, beyond my expectations.
Description of Work: Rewired entire 3-story plus basement of Victorian circa 1900, including removing all knob and tube and very old Romex wiring for all switches, outlets, ceiling fixtures, doorbell. Patched all drywall where openings required for access to wiring, paint-ready.

I sent Bill Mullen Electric an email over the weekend about getting a quote on the electrical work needed during my kitchen remodel, expecting to hear something by by Monday or Tuesday to set up an appointment for them to meet with me. The entire week has gone by and I have not heard anything. The other contractor that I contact on the same day reached out to me Monday morning and has already been out to quote the job, but no response from Bill Mullen Electric. In my opinion, if they can't reply to an email in a timely manner, I can only imagine how long it would take for them to actually do the job. Maybe the person that is supposed to respond to emails is on vacation this week or something happened and my email was overlooked.

Bill and his crew arrived on time on the scheduled date. Friendly, courteous and professional from the beginning to the end. It was a big job. Bill did a walk-through at the completion to make sure everything was properly installed. his price was within the range I had anticipated and I was pleased that he stuck to it. There were no surprises. My wife and I are very happy with the work and, thanks to Mullen Electric, we feel much safer in our home. Again, satisfied with the price and pleased with the work. Bill and his team were nothing short of spectacular. The house (in Pennsylvania) is occupied full time by my elderly aunt and uncle along with a live-in caregiver. I manage all of my aunt and uncle's affairs. I live in California. My interactions with Bill were 100% phone and email. He was easy to reach, honest and down to earth in his assessments, ahead of schedule with his work, and kind-empathetic-courteous to the elder living situation at the house. And, bottom line, the work was very high quality. Bill Mullen Electric has earned a tough-to-get spot in my contacts list, my GO-TO-ELECTRICIAN! Gz

Bill Mullen Electric was extremely helpful during the initial discussions and estimate. Bill was consistently responsive and took time to help answer all of my questions. On the day of the work, Bill and his team were prompt, very helpful, professional and did great work. I think they went above and beyond expectations in all regards. They also took the time to talk through what they've done and how to use the portable generator. I must say that I'm shocked by the less favorable ratings listed here (though there only very few) as they are not at all reflective of my interactions with Bill and his team. I was extremely impressed and I'd recommend them to others and I will certainly work with Bill Mullen Electric in the future as the need arises.

My wife and I had just had a baby daughter, who was only 2 weeks old so we had a full weekend. We were scheduling our daughter's feedings and routine around our appt. I had told Bill our situation over the phone when we scheduled the estimate. We waited and waited, and waited for 1 hour but he never showed up. I finally tried calling Bill and left a voicemail, reminding him of our appt and trying to confirm he was on his way. I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt: maybe he had some kind of emergency. I figured he would at least call back over the next few days and apologize, but I never heard back from him. This experience was frustrating and disappointing. It reflects unprofessionalism, unreliability, and a lack of integrity. Bill - please don't confirm appointments you can't commit to. And if there is an emergency or you have to cancel, you owe it to your customer/prospect to show some respect and give them a call. Lastly, there was a lot of work that needed to be done so this could've been a lucrative project for you.
Description of Work: I had scheduled an appointment with Bill Mullen to complete an estimated for a whole house electrical update. We had confirmed our appt and he agreed he would arrive at my house at 9:30am on Saturday morning.

Bill and his crew were outstanding. I carefully review reports on Angie's List before hiring contractors, and I read most reviews extensively on the top providers, and Bill Mullen appeared to be the best. He and his crew did not disappoint. They were terrific. All of them were meticulous and thorough, and it was clear that they were all skilled and worked well together. There were 4 to 5 electricians in my house every day for six days straight, and Bill was part of that group everyday; he did not go away and leave the work for everybody else---they are a real team of professionals. Not only were they skilled, but also friendly and helpful. They keep working on something until they get it right. Our stone house is 100 years old and it is not easy to work on for anybody but these guys were definitely up to the task. And with a house as old as mine, weird stuff always comes up, but they handled it. If I had questions they took time with me to explain the problem or issue. They finished the job over a month ago and so far everything words perfectly. Also, when Bill gives an estimate of the cost up front, he sticks to it, and I really appreciated this when he said he had forgotten to add in some of the new wiring costs needed for the front porch, but this was after he had given the estimate so he did the work and did not increase the cost. Before I hired Bill and was just getting estimates, I had one contractor tell me the cost could be "$10,000 or $25,000, or maybe less or maybe more" and he would not be more specific, so there was no way I was going to deal with that kind of ridiculousness and I politely told him goodbye. Another contractor seemed interested until I told him we had to have all knob and tube removed, and he did not call me back. Bill Mullen states on his website that knob and tube removal is one of his specialties and he means it, which I needed since my husband and I want to sell our house and the new regulations require all knob and tube to be removed before we can do so. I should add that Bill and his crew are also punctual. If they say they will be at your house at 8 a.m. they arrive at 8 a.m. or very close to it. And, each day they worked even though there was equipment, wiring, and stuff everywhere by the end of each day they cleaned up so the place was livable. I wish all home contractors were like this group.
Description of Work: Replaced all old wiring, removed old knob-and-tube, replaced all outlets, and installed some new overhead lights in a 100 year old house. Knob and tube had to be removed in order to pass inspection so my husband and I can sell our house.

I'm very sorry to being doing this so late after the job was completed. Bill is some kind of professional; he and his helper (sorry I don't remember his name) were awesome. To put a fine point on it, they both worked like dogs in the sweltering heat digging a trench line to find existing buried line from house that feeds detached garage. They pulled up some pavers in order to do the job and everything was replaced, tamped down like it had never been disturbed. The replacement of the panel in the basement was perfect, extra points for them considering the electricity was shut off and they were working like coal miners using head lamps to illuminate their work. So here we are 7 months later and absolutely zero problems...just the opposite; before the upgrade and mapping of the circuits, I had to shut off the whole house to do any minor electrical work--now I just isolate the right circuit. What's more is that my power tools now have the right amperage coming from the garage panel, circular saw used to grind to a halt mid-cut. I will certainly hire Bill in the future--wouldn't trust my home's electrical system to anyone else. Thanks Bill!

I was looking for general electric work for my house which included recessed lighting and ceiling fans. The first time I called the person I talked to seem rushed and told me someone would get back to me. I never received a call. When I called back the second time the same person was very short with me and again said someone would call me back. No apology offered from her for the first unanswered request for a quote. I never recieved a call back after the second request either. Lack of responsiveness and professionalism from this company. Needless to say I would not recommend them to a friend.

Bill did an excellent job of helping us select what circuits to back up on the transfer switch in the event we have a power outage. He set up the emergency sub-panel and clearly explained how it worked. He set up the outside outlet and provided a heavy duty connecting cord. We simulated a power outage and successfully demonstrated that the portable generator (7000 W) provided the power needed.

Initial project in Feb 2014 went well. Bill understood my electrical issues and need and was thorough in explaining what needed to be done. Work was done in a timely manner. Update: In late July a problem with one of the breakers occurred on the new 200 amp panel he installed (switch won't stay engaged - doesn't seem to be related to an issue, but perhaps an issue with the switch itself - it moves and won't click in place). This switch controls all of my outside security lighting. I contacted Bill for a follow up to see it he could come out and address the issue in July. I was told I'd get a call back. Never did. Called again 2 weeks later after a trip, was told I'd get a call back. Never got one. Called a 3rd time in August, and this time Bill did call back, but said he'd check his schedule and call me back, but never did. I recognize that he is busy and this is small change compared to his other projects but I would hope he'd stand behind his work if there was a problem. I also wanted to use his services again to upgrade the lighting in my basement (as I indicated to him earlier in the year) but at this point came on to Angie's List to find another provider to fix the issue and do the other work. I've been without security lighting for over 2 months and with change in seasons coming, I need to get this fixed. I understand being busy, and I was willing to wait, but just call your customers back and set expectations properly. Initial great experience, but overall disappointing.
Description of Work: Upgraded electrical to 200 amp service. Upgraded/rewired outlets in 3 rooms.
