I could not be happier! Darla started upholstering in 1970. She has worked for a number of firms, including Pennsylvania House. She has any kind of upholstery tool you might imagine and she knows how to use them all like the expert that she is. I dropped off the seat Sunday night and got it back tonight, Thursday. Darla re-stitched the cover I sewed on my home sewing machine because she was not satisfied with a curve on the front of the seat. She added a thin batting for better stability and added comfort. The seat came out GREAT. I am pretty particular when it comes to my bike. The seat not only looks better, it feels better. She is definitely off the beaten path; but she is worth finding.
Description of Work: I had my motorcycle seat re-worked last winter by a firm in Florida. Since there were some scratches on the vinyl, I asked if it could be re-covered at the same time if I furnished the cover. I took the old cover off and used it to make a template. I sewed a new cover out of what I was told was Marine Vinyl. The seat came back and looked great. Total Cost $240 including the cover I sewed and shipping. This summer, I realized the vinyl I purchased was not Marine Grade. It began cracking from the sun. Since I ride in the rain as well as on nice days, I was concerned that the new foam would get wet and begin to fail. I found Marine Grade Vinyl at The Old Trail Fabric Store in Shamokin Dam. I didn't want to spend $100 shipping to ship the seat back to Florida, so I entertained the thought of purchasing a heavy duty stapler and doing the job myself. After much research, I learned I would need to buy an air stapler. Since I don't have a compressor... It was looking like at least a couple hundred to do it myself. One of my fellow riders wrote in a motorcycle form that he had his seat stapled on by a local upholster for $30. His seat was one piece; mine is two piece; rider and passenger are separate sections on mine. That sounded like a better idea -- finding a business that knew about motorcycle seats. The first guy I called said he owned a Goldwing. It was the only motorcycle seat he recovered and it took him over 25 hours. He said it was a nightmare. I then called Ryan's and spoke to Darla. She said sure, no problem. She has done a bunch of them. Gave me an estimate over the phone of $30 dollars after I describe the seat.
