As described above. I would not use Blakeley Tile and Marble again and would not recommend them to other individuals. There costs are not comparable to other tile and marble sources.
Description of Work: Blakeley Tile & Marble in Cranberry Twp | Blakeley Tile & Marble was sub-contracted to provide the flooring and the wall tile in the bathroom of my house after a devastating house fire that totally detroyed the inside of my home. Three things apply to this review. 1. One of Blakeley's installers has his girlfriend in my house when he has supposed to be installing flooring. She was not associated with Blakeley in any way and was therefore a trespasser. She was interrupting the installers' work and should not have been on the at the work site.. PLUS, because she she not have been on the property, she was not covered by any contractor or sub-contractor insurance. When I asked why she was there, she said she was waiting for one installer to be finished with his work; which he was rushing to complete. When Blakeley was contacted I was told that it was 'all right' for her to be there. When the contractor contacted Blakeley, Blakeley agreed that the girl should not have been in the house. Blakeley was totally unprofessional. 2. I chose two contrasting tile for the shower area of the two bathrooms. The contractor tried to stick me with an additional $200.00 fee for the use of two colors of grout for the primary tile color and the accent tile color (white). I was told that the approximately 16 inches of contrasting grout would impose an undue burden on the installer and his time. I was also told that the grout for the white tile would just look 'dirty'. After insistance, I agreed to pay the extra $200.00, however the contractor asked Blakeley (a sub-contractor) do the appropriate work as originally agreed, with the correct colors of grout. Blakeley tried to gouge me for an extra $200.00 when I was already contracted with them. 3. Additional tile has to be placed around a fireplace. I refused to use Blakeley tile for this project. I chose Best Tile, a company that was efficient, offering all types of choices for tile, kid-friendly as I was choosing tile, and comparable/or less with Blakeley tile whose cost was exhorbitant.

The proprietor was very personable and helpful offering suggestions and input during the job estimation. We later received an estimate, and shortly thereafter, went to the business' location to further discuss the estimate and review/select materials. During that visit we agreed to have Blakeley to do the work and agreed on timing for when the work was to begin. On the agreed timing, workers for Blakeley showed up at our residence to drop-off the select wood flooring to allow it to acclimate prior to installation. At that time, the workers also begin the removal/installation for the additional work not covered in the scope of what was to be performed in their capacity as a sub-contractor, for the insurance claim work. I walked through the work areas with the Blakeley proprietor and he expressed that they would put down shoe molding in the bathroom versus removing the baseboards, cutting the tilework to the drywall and reinstalling the baseboards. We discussed the option of having shoe molding also installed throughout the rooms where non-claim work was to be performed. Shortly thereafter the Blakeley workers begin the remove/installation work on the damaged claim work area (hardwood removal/replacement). After the aforementioned work was completed, we inspected the work and were pleased overall but have a couple of concerns in areas we wanted to address. I mentioned the concerns to the proprietor and we agreed a day/time to meet at my home to address the issues. I showed Blakeley the rise/drop of the damage claim floor and also showed him a couple of areas of crude measurement/cut/installation of tile work in the non-damage claim flooring. He stated the damage claim flooring concern wasn't a big deal, it was within "code" and since they don't level floors, but merely install them, with some minor leveling effort, there wasn't anything they could do about it. He mentioned maybe the loadbearing wall, floor joist, or many other factors may be causing the issue and came across very defensive about the work. I commented my concerns weren't about the abilities of his guys but just things we wanted to have resolved. His comment about the concerns I raised for the non-damage claim floor was that the tile cuts were perfect (even though I could see clearly a 1/4 gap through to the sub-floor). He mentioned he couldn't work like "this", that he should take his workers, materials and leave the job. He proceeded to walk out of the house and I immediately followed to talk further and reason with him. Our conversation was interrupted by my wife and I asked him to please wait while I talked to my wife. I returned to continue my conversation with him but he had left. I called the Project Coordinator to inform him of what occurred, and told him that I no longer wanted Blakeley to perform any work at my home. Within a day or so, Blakeley workers returned to finish the work they began, remove their materials and leave the job.
Description of Work: Blakeley Tile and Marble was engaged as a sub-contractor for another company in Pittsburgh, PA, to perform remove/repair and replacement work related to my homeowners' insurance claim. The proprietor came recommended by the Project Coordinator/General Contractor for my job to also give me an estimate for remove/repair and replacement work outside of the services under the responsibility of the company that hired Blakeley Tile and Marble. The proprietor showed up at my residence to review the subcontracted work and at that time we requested that he also give us an estimate for the additional work.
