The Chimney Scientist

Was given a quote (expensive) but I needed the work done and thought you get what you pay for. Well, not in this case. After receiving a date a months out, the day of the scheduled work was rescheduled without my consent for two weeks later. After fighting for a more agreeable date (July) and $8000 later, I received a chimney insert and installation. Well, now that Fall has arrived, I made a fire and in the middle of the fire a rod falls down inside the insert. Well, worried I called to have someone come and look at it and fix it. I’m being told I need to wait until November to fix an $8000 error. Please save yourself the stress, find another company. Unprofessional

Great people to work with. Very communicative and open about scheduling. Arrived promptly on time. In fact they were a little early which I loved since I had to goto work. Very clean and neat. The technician explained the process and how he would handle the sweep. He cleaned up after he left. Other than the chimney looking much cleaner I would not have known someone was there. He also explained what he saw and how to maintain during the upcoming months. I would recommend to other people. Great Job!!

I would most definitely use them again. I think, I am going to say it too 2 1/2 hours to complete. I just thought they were very respectful. It was a real pleasure working with him.

It went very well. I spoke to Joe to schedule the appointment for Isaac to come to be house the following week. Isaac and Jacob came in, wore booties, put down a drop cloth, and proceeded to clean a chimney that hadn't been cleaned in at least 8 years of weekly use in the winter. Isaac advised me about wood stoves and my issues with a cold basement. He even helped me get my gas heater working again (he didn't even mention charging me). It was a pleasure having them in my house. I would definitely consider hiring them again and referring them to friends.

They came on time and inspected the chimney and fireplace (including going on the roof in the rain). The determination was it was safe and clean, so it didn't need a sweep. So, I can't comment on how that part of the service went. Isaac was very cordial and made sure to have booties to not track any dirt into the house while inspecting. Overall, a great price compared to anywhere else I could find and very responsive.

Isaac was great! Very personable and professional. He called to tell me he was on his way, and arrived on time. He put down a thick drop cloth to protect my floor from dirt before he started sweeping the chimney. He was honest with me when he was done, telling me that, while the chimney had definitely needed to be cleaned, it wasn't that bad. He discussed with me how often we use the fireplace and said that we probably wouldn't need to have it cleaned again for a number of years. He also explained to me some details about our fireplace, and said that the type of fireplace I have is very safe. Overall, he was very knowledgeable and professional. Excellent and easy experience!

If you want someone who will good work for a fair price, call Joe and Isaac, the Chimney Scientists! When I moved into my new home, I wanted to have my chimney inspected before I used my fireplace. The first company I called told me that the fireplace was not in working order due to creosote buildup and a major gap between the smoke chamber and the tiling., They recommended a wood or gas insert, which would cost about $4,000. I decided to get a second opinion and called the Chimney Scientist guys because of Joe's statement that he does not like it when people try to trick him, so he does not trick others. Joe came out, inspected my fireplace, explained how everything worked, suggested a less dramatic option, and REFUSED PAYMENT for his time since he only inspected the unit and did not go up on the roof. I later called Joe for a cleaning since it was clear it had not been done in years. Isaac came and left the living room cleaner than it was when he arrived. He was punctual and polite. We were then able to use the fireplace all winter. In the spring, they came out and resurfaced the liner and did a heavy duty cleaning. Their estimate was very reasonable. They were so easy to work with, explained everything they were doing, and even provided pictures. They were so clean that my roommate did not even know they had been here. Working with them is so easy and pleasant, I recommend them to my friends and neighbors!

Chimney Scientists were great about explaining the pros and cons. Set realistic expectations and were excellent at communication. My home is remote and I always knew when they were coming out and what steps were coming up. Business model is excellent and why I will be using Chimney Scientists from now on.

Called these guys last week to have our long-overdue chimney swept. Luckily they were able to come out the same week. I had been dreading doing this mainly because the last guys we used got our white living room totally dirty, but Isaac came out and not only did he do a great job keeping the living room clean but I felt totally comfortable inviting him into our home--great guy. Really made the whole process easy. We will definitely be using chimney scientist from now on.
