Alan Conkling Garage Door Service

In this day and age it was very refreshing to speak to Alan. He didn't try to sell me a new door or relace parts that were not needed like some of the other providers suggested. Alan saved me a lot of time and money and when I do need a new garage door, I know who to call.

Called for an appointment; appointment made for next day; technician appeared on time; diagnosed problem with door and fixed it; showed us how to adjust door if it happened again.

Jay explained that the opener was working too hard because the springs were not strong enough. He replaced the springs with stronger items, greased the wheels and tracks, and then fixed the opener. The whole process was about 2 hours.

Despite advertising 24 hour emergency service, I did not have a call back to my 9:30 am Sunday morning call. Very disappointed.

While my interaction with Jay was most pleasant the one with Alan who answered the phone (owner too perhaps), should have been better. I called the 800 number and left a message and received no response for 24 hours. I called again and spoke to Alan. When I explained the problem with the garage door he repeatedly kept telling me "We do not do (door?) panels". I never asked him to replace any panel, I just wanted my garage door repaired. When I enquired about his charge he kept repeating "Our trucks do not drive for free". Mind you, I never asked him for any such favors, in fact I think his charges are very reasonable. Maybe he did not understand my foreign accent. But for this, I am entirely satisfied with my interaction with this company and I would not hesitate to avail of the company's services in the future.

Yesterday my son came in from New York to visit and help us out in the house with a couple of things. We went into the garage to clear some things out, and the garage door wouldn't open! It is an electric door, and we could not open it either with the button or manually. Of course it was a Sunday, so we were stuck! This morning I called several garage door companies that I found on Angie's List. The Alan Conkling company was the only one where a live person answered the phone, where I did not have to leave a message. The man who answered was having a very busy time, because he was listening to my situation at the same time his workers were all calling in for their schedules. However he was very courteous to me, listened to my story and said he could have someone to my house within the hour! And sure enough, a young man did arrive within the hour, and fixed the door, for a very fair price! And he was very nice too. I am so thankful that I found the Alan Conkling Company. I will use it forever and recommend to my friends and family.

One of our 22 years old garage doors suddenly on its own began to open & close continually. In speaking with Alan Conkling directly on the phone, he deduced the problem & dispatched a technician to our home within 1 hour (!) of our phone call. (We had already received a comparable quote for a garage door opener from another company on Angie's List but the earliest they could dispatch a technician was the following week.) "Jay" was very professional, personable, & extremely thorough. He diagnosed the problem quickly, confirmed our & Mr. Conkling's opinion that we needed a new opener, installed the new opener for the broken one along with a new opener for our second garage bay as well as a keyless entry keypad, which was complimentary with the purchase of 2 openers. Jay also evaluated & replaced/ upgraded old parts to the systems of both garage doors. He explained all costs, all work he was going to do, & then all work he did do. He was also very helpful in explaining to us how everything functioned. We were very pleased with the job overall. We would highly recommend this company.

For the last several years, our garage door opener was finicky. We gave up a year ago and were opening the door manually. Recently, something happened with the door itself, and we could not close it completely. We found Alan Conkling on Angie's List. They responded immediately. The representative corrected two adjustments, and now the door and opener work fine.

I made two separate service calls due to a spring breaking after the first service. I had not requested spring replacement at the first call. Mike was very responsive and thorough. The hardware on the garage doors was over twenty years old. Mike did what was necessary to get the doors functioning correctly. I'm very pleased and recommend Alan Conkling Garage Door Service highly.

When I called the guy, it took me a couple of tries to get to him. He called back within two days. He was able to get someone out to get the garage door repaired.

Owner answered phone on a Saturday morning. Gave detailed information on service cost without being asked. Repair started (by John) within 2 hours of my call. Exceptional service, nice personality. Everything was well explained. I could not have been more pleased.

o talk me out of it - Our garage door opener broke - but when they came to fix it we were told that because the old doors were in such poor shape they were shaking the system - so to fix the opener would be a waste as it would break again. It was recommended that we replace the garage doors - but not the openers. The work was done the next day - and they left everything cleaner than when they started. They did make a small mistake, but fixed it as soon as possible - and never tried to wrangle out of it. It was really a please to deal with people who show up when they say they will and do very competent work.

One fine evening garage door suddenly stuck at half open position. I couldn't open or close it. Searched Angie's list to find some contractor but no one could same night. Alan promised to send someone early next morning. The person from Alan Conkling Door Service showed up around 8:30am. By looking at the garage door position, he estimated that it will cost around $150. Once he checked closely, he showed that one of the two torsion springs was broken so replacement of two spring was $280. He waived the visiting charge of $60. He already had spring in his van so replaced them within one hour and we were relaxed that our door was working again. Didn't sleep well thatnight as garage was left half open whole night.

Extremely well,One of the springs on the garage door broke, checked Angies list for repair places in my area and saw that this provider was nearby, and had an A rating. I called the owner who stated he was sorry but could not get anyone out today, (it was 3:30 - PM) but would take care of it first thing in the morning. He explained the pricing and what service would take place I agreed to have them come out. Appox. 10 minutes later the owner called and said if I would be at home he could have someone out in 20 to 30 minutes, which I thought was great. The service Tech, Jay arrived in 20 minutes, looked at what was wrong and immediately knew what I needed for the repair. He took the time to show me the broken spring end, why it most likely failed and stated what I needed to complete the repair. Jay was extremely professional, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He checked the rest off the door hardware and parts and said all was in good condition. He repaired the door, lubricated the tracks and pulleys and was done in 25 minutes and the door was back in operation. I would highly recommend this company.

The owner took my original call and could not have been nicer. The tech arrived the next morning, on time in a well marked truck. Very polite and quickly assessed the issue. Because I apparently have some type of very exotic door spring thing, they could not assist me because they can't get parts. Tech left with no cost to me. Owner Alan called back and offered suggestions of competitors that could help me. I wish every tradesman I deal with was like these guys! Thank you Alan!

Alan Conkling, the owner, answered the phone when I called. He did everything he could to accommodate my schedule and work around it. And someone came to my house just as soon as I was available. Jay came out to fix the door. He was terrific. First, he went over the garage door with me to point out all the problems. He showed me where every part was worn out, bent, or in just bad shape. He then explained what he wanted to do, and why. After he put in all new parts, he showed them to me and explained in detail what he had done. At my request, he showed me how to open the garage door manually if there was a power outage. He made sure I knew exactly what to do. Also, at my request, he looked at my garage door opener remotes, and told me how to change the batteries. Then he showed me how to reset the code to the keypad. He wasn't satisfied until he was sure that I could do all these things. I know that some people have said they thought this company was on the pricey side. I was impressed because this company uses top quality parts - above industry standards. I didn't find them to be higher priced than other companies, but I would certainly be willing to pay extra for the quality parts (which were guaranteed, along with labor, for five years). And the exceptional service.

Serviceman arrived within 2 hours of the call. He had the required part on the truck and was able to complete the work in about an hour. He pointed out some areas of wear that could possibly fail in the near future. He gave me a repair quote but was not al all pushy when I declined. He showed me how to properly lubricate everything to extend the life as long as possible. Extremely professional. This is the 2nd time I've used Conkling and i've been satisfied both times.

called 2/8 came 2/9 charged quoted price and did extra replacing garage door handle at no extra charge. owner came later to check on work and instruct how to use the controls

They were responsive and able to do the repair quickly after I contacted them. They did quality work, but I think they were expensive. I would use them again.

I had a good experience with them. They did a good job and did what they said they would do. They handled things well. They were very professional and I am planning on using them again.

Very pleasant to deal with all around. Spoke with owner on the phone. He sent out serviceman the same day. Was prompt courteous. Mike, the serviceman, was very friendly and nice to my 3.5 yr old son who loved watching him do his work. All work done in a professional manner. Would use again. Thought price was a little high, but I don't really have a basis of comparison.
