+ -1 moreI have a 34 year old house. I had replaced the garage doors many years ago but the springs and all were not replaced. In mid May one of the springs snapped as I was closing the one door. Luckily, I was not hurt. A friend of mine had lost an eye in a similar accident. I called Conkling and they responded immediately. He inspected the doors gave me a price and proceeded with the installation. He recommended a maintenance program that I could do myself to insure long life for the newly installed hardware. I was extremely pleased with the service. I would recommend them to everyone.

+ -1 moreCalled to get an estimate for replacement of garage doors. Never been treated so rudely and in a cavalier manner as I was with this contractor. Asked for an appt at my home to see what the offered and what I have. Basically he rattled his his pricing and what he offered in a 20 secon byte on my inital call. Said he wouldn't come to my home unless we were serious about the project. "If I knew how many times he provides estimates and they don't turn into project" Well, if this is how you treat all of your customers, sir, no wonder they don't turn into projects. I guess I'm supposed to imagine what your product looks like and sight unseen sign up to have you do the work. I can tell you this, not a snow ball's chance. Lost an opportunity from me as my business will go to a competitor who didn't find it a bother to come meet with me in person. Thanks to Angie's list for letting me provide this review and warn any future buyers against your lousy service!

Description of Work: On 5/7/13 a spring snapped on one of our doors. I conducted a web search for companies that do garage door repairs in the Phoenixville, PA area and came upon Alen Conkling's service. Called and was able to have a conversation with the owner. I had not done any research into other companies or on Angie's list at this point so I ended the call an did my research. I called back later to book the job Here's the bottom line this company was very responsive and did excellent work. I would have been satisfied even if I had not hired them. Alan took the time on the phone to go over options and they actually gave an estimated cost range that was accurate. He offered to be onsite the next day but my schedule did not permit so he worked around my schedule. Dan did the work and provided excellent service. He described what he was doing, answered my questions, checked the second door and provided a minor adjustment at no extra charge on that door. They did not try to sell me services that were unnecessary at this time. The work was done quickly and correctly. I highly recommend Alan Conkling Garage Door Service. If i ever need garage door work done again, I won't have to do another search, I'll just call this outfit. steve

+ -1 moreMy 18 year old garage door opener stopped working. I assumed that it probably needed replacement. However, the gentleman who came out from Conkling showed me that there was a disc that at worn away after so many years and just needed to be replaced. The service was prompt and efficient. I called at about 4PM on a Tuesday and they came out at 8AM on Wednesday. Great service. Would highly recommend.

+ -1 moreThey were very professional and punctual performing all work in a reasonable amount of time.
Description of Work: Our door would stick on its way down occasionally causing the door to return to its up position. When it got to the point it was doing this almost every cycle, Conklin was called for an assessment. The gentleman arrived promptly and inspected the door providing us with several options, the 2 that made the most sense were either replacing the existing hardware(springs and rollers) or the door and hardware. We had the hardware replaced as that was the lesser of two evils. The contractor came back when we made our decision, had the necessary hardware and was done within a few hours. He removed all old hardware, installed the new hardware and greased everything as needed and functioned the door in my presence to verify operation. He also gave us several tips to keep the door functioning properly. The price seemed a bit much for just the springs and rollers but solid metal springs probably are a relatively higher ticket item. We were very pleased with the response time and courteousness of the gentleman that came out. Would def use again when the door needs to go.

+ -1 moreThe service technicians arrived within a half hour and tried to determine if they could repair the existing garage door opener. Because of the age of the device, replacement parts were no longer available. They installed a new opener that has a lifetime warranty on the motor and belt drive, a 1 year warranty on the major electrical components, a security lock, a keypad and provided me with 3 remotes. The work was done neatly and efficiently and completed in approximately 45 minutes. They removed the old device and all connecting materials.

Description of Work: My automatic garage door was not working. The service guy came over and assessed the problem. All I needed was a new garage door sensor. In addition to that my garage door spring was tightened. I did not need to replace the automatic door opener or spring as I first thought. They were very professional.

I finally decided to try another company and called Alan, who answered the phone immediately and proceeded to talk me through how to fix it in 15 minutes. When I asked for a bill he said there was no charge!

The price of repair seemed reasonable & I was able to use a coupon from Angie's List as well. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend Alan Conklin to anyone.

Alan understood what I described quickly and was able to schedule a convenient service time for me. He also gave a clear range of service fees. The final cost after coupon is lower than others. The technician Jay came over to my house on time. He was very nice and professional. He gave detailed answers to my questions about garage door replacement and maintenance, etc. He also fixed other minor issues without extra charges. I am very satisfied at his work.

John came out on a Saturday and looked everything over, and recommended replacing the doors due to their poor condition. Gave a competitive estimate and I made arrangements to have new ones installed. Was able to arrange a day/time about 1 week later. John arrived on time and performed the work efficiently. Quality of workmanship was very good and they cleaned up after themselves. John went over door maintenance and then they were on their way. Overall highly recommended.

+ -1 moreI called Alan at 7 AM because my garage door was jammed shut and the spring on one side of the door was no longer attached. He had a person (Mike) at my house by 8:30 AM. He was very knowledgeable and was able to replace the pulleys and get the door back on track in half an hour. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need and I believe his price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend him for future work.
